FIRST READING
"A certain Jesus who died, but whom Paul claims to be alive"
A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (25, 13-21)
In those days King Agrippa and Berenice came to Caesarea to greet Governor Festus. As they spent several days there, Festus explained Paul's situation to the king, saying: “There is a man here that my predecessor Felix left in prison. When I was in Jerusalem, the high priests and elders of the Jews exposed their grievances against him calling for his condemnation. I replied that it is not the Romans' custom to do the favor of handing over anyone when accused, before they are confronted with their accusers and can defend themselves against the charge. So they ended up here, and without any delay, the very next day, I sat in court and gave the order to bring this man. When they stood up, the accusers did not blame him for any of the misdeeds that, for my part, I would have assumed. They only had some debates with him about their own religion, and about a certain Jesus who died, but whom Paul claimed to be alive. As for me, embarrassed by the follow-up to be given to the investigation, I asked Paul if he wanted to go to Jerusalem to be judged there on this matter. But Paul appealed to be kept in prison until the Imperial decision. I therefore ordered that he be kept in prison until his case was referred to the emperor. " But Paul appealed to be kept in prison until the Imperial decision. I therefore ordered that he be kept in prison until his case was referred to the emperor. " But Paul appealed to be kept in prison until the Imperial decision. I therefore ordered that he be kept in prison until his case was referred to the emperor. "
