இறையாட்சியைச் சிறு பிள்ளையைப்போல் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாதோர் அதற்குள் நுழையமாட்டார்.

மாற்கு எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 10: 13-16

அக்காலத்தில் சிறு பிள்ளைகளை இயேசு தொடவேண்டுமென்று அவர்களைச் சிலர் அவரிடம் கொண்டு வந்தனர். சீடரோ அவர்களை அதட்டினர்.

இயேசு இதைக் கண்டு, கோபம் கொண்டு, ``சிறு பிள்ளைகளை என்னிடம் வரவிடுங்கள். அவர்களைத் தடுக்காதீர்கள். ஏனெனில் இறையாட்சி இத்தகையோருக்கே உரியது.

இறையாட்சியைச் சிறு பிள்ளையைப்போல் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாதோர் அதற்கு உட்பட மாட்டார் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்'' என்றார்.

பிறகு அவர் அவர்களை அரவணைத்து, தம் கைகளை அவர்கள்மீது வைத்து ஆசி வழங்கினார்.

சீராக்கின் ஞான நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 17: 1-15

ஆண்டவர் மனிதரை மண்ணால் படைத்தார்; மீண்டும் அந்த மண்ணுக்கே திரும்புமாறு செய்கிறார். அவர்களுக்கு ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட காலவரையை வகுத்தார்; மண்ணுலகில் உள்ளவற்றின்மீது அவர்களுக்கு அதிகாரம் அளித்தார்.

தமக்கு உள்ளதைப் போன்ற வலிமையை அவர்களுக்கு வழங்கினார்; தமது சாயலாகவே அவர்களை உருவாக்கினார். எல்லா உயிரினங்களும் மனிதருக்கு அஞ்சும்படி செய்தார்; விலங்குகள், பறவைகள்மீது அவர்களுக்கு அதிகாரம் அளித்தார்.

தம் ஐந்தறிவைப் பயன்படுத்தும் உரிமையை ஆண்டவர் அவர்களுக்கு அளித்தார்; ஆறாவதாகத் தம் அறிவுத்திறனில் பங்கு கொடுத்தார்; அந்த ஆறறிவையும் விளக்கும் பகுத்தறிவை ஏழாவது கொடையாக வழங்கினார். விருப்புரிமை, நாக்கு, கண், காது ஆகியவற்றையும் சிந்திப்பதற்கு ஓர் உள்ளத்தையும் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்.

அவர்களை அறிவாலும் கூர்மதியாலும் நிரப்பினார்; நன்மை தீமையையும் அவர்களுக்குக் காட்டினார். அவர்களின் உள்ளத்தைப் பற்றி விழிப்பாய் இருந்தார்; தம் செயல்களில் மேன்மையைக் காட்டினார். தம் வியத்தகு செயல்கள் பற்றி என்றும் பெருமைப்படும் உரிமையை அவர்களுக்கு அளித்தார்.

அவர்கள் அவரது திருப்பெயரைப் புகழ்வார்கள்; இவ்வாறு அவருடைய செயல்களின் மேன்மையைப் பறைசாற்றுவார்கள். அறிவை அவர்களுக்கு வழங்கினார்; வாழ்வு அளிக்கும் திருச்சட்டத்தை அவர்களுக்கு உரிமையாக்கினார்.

அவர்களுடன் முடிவில்லா உடன்படிக்கை செய்துகொண்டார்; தம் தீர்ப்புகளை அவர்களுக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தினார். அவர்களின் கண்கள் அவருடைய மாட்சியைக் கண்டன; அவர்களின் செவிகள் அவரது மாட்சியின் குரலைக் கேட்டன. `எல்லா வகைத் தீமைகள் குறித்தும் கவனமாய் இருங்கள்' என்று அவர் எச்சரித்தார்; அடுத்திருப்பவர்களைப் பற்றிய கட்டளைகளை அவர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் கொடுத்தார். மனிதரின் வழிகளை ஆண்டவர் எப்போதும் அறிவார்; அவரின் பார்வையிலிருந்து அவை மறைந்திருப்பதில்லை.

A faithful friend is a sure shelter

A reading from the book of Ecclesiasticus 6: 5-17 

A kindly turn of speech multiplies a man’s friends,  and a courteous way of speaking invites many a friendly reply.

Let your acquaintances be many,  but your advisers one in a thousand. If you want to make a friend, take him on trial,

  and be in no hurry to trust him; for one kind of friend is only so when it suits him   but will not stand by you in your day of trouble. Another kind of friend will fall out with you  and to your dismay make the quarrel public, and a third kind of friend will share your table,  but not stand by you in your day of trouble:

when you are doing well he will be your second self,

  ordering your servants about; but if ever you are brought low he will turn against you  and will hide himself from you. Keep well clear of your enemies,  and be wary of your friends. A faithful friend is a sure shelter,  whoever finds one has found a rare treasure. A faithful friend is something beyond price,  there is no measuring his worth. A faithful friend is the elixir of life,  and those who fear the Lord will find one. Whoever fears the Lord makes true friends,  for as a man is, so is his friend.

அக்காலத்தில் இயேசு புறப்பட்டு யூதேயப் பகுதிகளுக்கும் யோர்தான் அக்கரைப் பகுதிக்கும் வந்தார். மீண்டும் மக்கள் அவரிடம் வந்து கூடினர். அவரும் வழக்கம்போல மீண்டும் அவர்களுக்குக் கற்பித்தார்.

பரிசேயர் அவரை அணுகி, ``கணவன் தன் மனைவியை விலக்கிவிடுவது முறையா?'' என்று கேட்டு அவரைச் சோதித்தனர்.

அவர் அவர்களிடம் மறுமொழியாக, ``மோசே உங்களுக்கு இட்ட கட்டளை என்ன?'' என்று கேட்டார்.

அவர்கள், ``மோசே மணவிலக்குச் சான்றிதழ் எழுதி அவரை விலக்கிவிடலாம் என்று அனுமதி அளித்துள்ளார்'' என்று கூறினார்கள்.

அதற்கு இயேசு அவர்களிடம், ``உங்கள் கடின உள்ளத்தின் பொருட்டே அவர் இக்கட்டளையை எழுதி வைத்தார்.

படைப்பின் தொடக்கத்திலேயே கடவுள், `ஆணும் பெண்ணுமாக அவர்களைப் படைத்தார். இதனால் கணவன் தன் தாய் தந்தையை விட்டுவிட்டுத் தன் மனைவியுடன் ஒன்றித்திருப்பான். இருவரும் ஒரே உடலாய் இருப்பர்.' இனி அவர்கள் இருவர் அல்ல; ஒரே உடல். எனவே கடவுள் இணைத்ததை மனிதர் பிரிக்காதிருக்கட்டும்'' என்றார்.

பின்னர் வீட்டில் இதைப்பற்றி மீண்டும் சீடர் அவரைக் கேட்டனர்.

இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி, ``தன் மனைவியை விலக்கிவிட்டு வேறொரு பெண்ணை மணப்பவன் எவனும் அவருக்கு எதிராக விபசாரம் செய்கிறான். தன் கணவரை விலக்கிவிட்டு வேறொருவரை மணக்கும் எவளும் விபசாரம் செய்கிறாள்'' என்றார்.

நம்பிக்கைக்குரிய நண்பர்கள் நலம் அளிக்கும் மருந்து போன்றவர்கள்; ஆண்டவருக்கு அஞ்சுவோரே இத்தகைய நண்பர்களைக் கண்டடைவர்.

ஆண்டவருக்கு அஞ்சுவோரே முறையான நட்புப் பேணுவோர். அவர்களை அடுத்தவர்களும் அவர்களைப் போலவே இருப்பார்கள்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 9:41-50 

Jesus said to his disciples:

  ‘If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink just because you belong to Christ, then I tell you solemnly, he will most certainly not lose his reward.

  ‘But anyone who is an obstacle to bring down one of these little ones who have faith, would be better thrown into the sea with a great millstone round his neck. And if your hand should cause you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life crippled, than to have two hands and go to hell, into the fire that cannot be put out. And if your foot should cause you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life lame, than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye should cause you to sin, tear it out; it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell where their worm does not die nor their fire go out. For everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is a good thing, but if salt has become insipid, how can you season it again? Have salt in yourselves and be at peace with one another.’

Do not give your heart to your money,  or say, ‘With this I am self-sufficient.’ Do not be led by your appetites and energy

  to follow the passions of your heart. And do not say, ‘Who has authority over me?’  for the Lord will certainly be avenged on you. Do not say, ‘I sinned, and what happened to me?’  for the Lord’s forbearance is long. Do not be so sure of forgiveness

  that you add sin to sin. And do not say, ‘His compassion is great,   he will forgive me my many sins’; for with him are both mercy and wrath,  and his rage bears heavy on sinners.

Do not delay your return to the Lord,  do not put it off day after day; for suddenly the Lord’s wrath will blaze out,  and at the time of vengeance you will be utterly destroyed.Do not set your heart on ill-gotten gains,  they will be of no use to you on the day of disaster.

என்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொண்டுள்ள இச்சிறியோருள் எவரையாவது பாவத்தில் விழச் செய்வோருடைய கழுத்தில் ஓர் எந்திரக் கல்லைக் கட்டி, கடலில் தள்ளிவிடுவதே அவர்களுக்கு நல்லது.

உங்கள் கை உங்களைப் பாவத்தில் விழச் செய்தால் அதை வெட்டிவிடுங்கள். நீங்கள் இரு கையுடையவராய் அணையாத நெருப்புள்ள நரகத்துக்குள் தள்ளப்படுவதை விட, கை ஊனமுற்றவராய் நிலைவாழ்வில் புகுவது உங்களுக்கு நல்லது.

உங்கள் கால் உங்களைப் பாவத்தில் விழச் செய்தால் அதை வெட்டிவிடுங்கள். நீங்கள் இரு காலுடையவராய் நரகத்தில் தள்ளப்படுவதைவிட கால் ஊனமுற்றவராய் வாழ்வில் புகுவது உங்களுக்கு நல்லது.

உங்கள் கண் உங்களைப் பாவத்தில் விழச் செய்தால், அதைப் பிடுங்கி எறிந்துவிடுங்கள். நீங்கள் இரு கண்ணுடையவராய் நரகத்தில் தள்ளப்படுவதைவிட ஒற்றைக் கண்ணராய் இறையாட்சிக்கு உட்படுவது உங்களுக்கு நல்லது.

நரகத்திலோ அவர்களைத் தின்னும் புழு சாகாது; நெருப்பும் அவியாது. ஏனெனில் பலிப் பொருள் உப்பால் தூய்மையாக்கப்படுவது போல் ஒவ்வொருவரும் நெருப்பால் தூய்மையாக்கப்படுவர்.

உப்பு நல்லது. ஆனால் அது உவர்ப்பற்றுப் போனால் எதைக் கொண்டு அதை உவர்ப்புள்ளதாக்குவீர்கள்? நீங்கள் உப்பின் தன்மை கொண்டிருங்கள்.

Wisdom brings up her own sons,  and cares for those who seek her. Whoever loves her loves life,  those who wait on her early will be filled with happiness. Whoever holds her close will inherit honour,   and wherever he walks the Lord will bless him.Those who serve her minister to the Holy One,  and the Lord loves those who love her. Whoever obeys her judges aright,  and whoever pays attention to her dwells secure.If he trusts himself to her he will inherit her,   and his descendants will remain in possession of her;for though she takes him at first through winding ways,  bringing fear and faintness on him,plaguing him with her discipline until she can trust him,  and testing him with her ordeals,in the end she will lead him back to the straight road

 and reveal her secrets to him.If he wanders away she will abandon him,  and hand him over to his fate.

A reading from the book of Ecclesiasticus 2:1-11 

My son, if you aspire to serve the Lord,

  prepare yourself for an ordeal.

Be sincere of heart, be steadfast,

  and do not be alarmed when disaster comes.

Cling to him and do not leave him,

  so that you may be honoured at the end of your days.

Whatever happens to you, accept it,

  and in the uncertainties of your humble state, be patient,

since gold is tested in the fire,

  and chosen men in the furnace of humiliation.

Trust him and he will uphold you,

  follow a straight path and hope in him.

You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy;

  do not turn aside in case you fall.

You who fear the Lord, trust him,

  and you will not be baulked of your reward.

You who fear the Lord hope for good things,

Look at the generations of old and see:

இயேசுவும் அவருடைய சீடர்களும் மலையை விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டுக் கலிலேயா வழியாகச் சென்றார்கள். அது யாருக்கும் தெரியக்கூடாது என்று இயேசு விரும்பினார். ஏனெனில், “மானிட மகன் மக்களின் கையில் ஒப்புவிக்கப்பட இருக்கிறார்; அவர்கள் அவரைக் கொலை செய்வார்கள். கொல்லப்பட்ட மூன்று நாள்களுக்குப் பின் அவர் உயிர்த்தெழுவார்” என்று அவர் தம் சீடருக்குக் கற்பித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அவர் சொன்னது அவர்களுக்கு விளங்கவில்லை. அவரிடம் விளக்கம் கேட்கவும் அவர்கள் அஞ்சினார்கள்.

அவர்கள் கப்பர்நாகுமுக்கு வந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் வீட்டில் இருந்தபொழுது இயேசு, “வழியில் நீங்கள் எதைப்பற்றி வாதாடிக் கொண்டிருந்தீர்கள்?” என்று அவர்களிடம் கேட்டார். அவர்கள் பேசாதிருந்தார்கள். ஏனெனில் தங்களுள் பெரியவர் யார் என்பதைப்பற்றி வழியில் ஒருவரோடு ஒருவர் வாதாடிக்கொண்டு வந்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது அவர் அமர்ந்து, பன்னிருவரையும் கூப்பிட்டு, அவர்களிடம், “ஒருவர் முதல்வராக இருக்க விரும்பினால் அவர் அனைவரிலும் கடைசியானவராகவும் அனைவருக்கும் தொண்டராகவும் இருக்கட்டும்” என்றார்.

பிறகு அவர் ஒரு சிறு பிள்ளையை எடுத்து, அவர்கள் நடுவே நிறுத்தி, அதை அரவணைத்துக் கொண்டு, “இத்தகைய சிறு பிள்ளைகளுள் ஒன்றை என் பெயரால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்பவர் எவரும் என்னையே ஏற்றுக் கொள்கிறார். என்னை ஏற்றுக்கொள்பவர் என்னை மட்டும் அல்ல, என்னை அனுப்பினவரையே ஏற்றுக்கொள்கிறார்” என்றார்.

அக்காலத்தில்

பேதுரு, யாக்கோபு, யோவான் ஆகிய மூவரும் மற்ற சீடரிடம் வந்தபொழுது, பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் அவர்களைச் சூழ்ந்திருப்பதையும் மறை நூல் அறிஞர் அவர்களுடன் வாதாடுவதையும் கண்டனர். மக்கள் அனைவரும் இயேசுவைக் கண்ட உடனே மிக வியப்புற்று அவரிடம் ஓடிப்போய் அவரை வாழ்த்தினர். அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “நீங்கள் இவர்களோடு எதைப் பற்றி வாதாடுகிறீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அப்போது கூட்டத்திலிருந்து ஒருவர் அவரைப் பார்த்து, “போதகரே, தீய ஆவி பிடித்துப் பேச்சிழந்த என் மகனை உம்மிடம் கொண்டு வந்தேன். அது அவனைப் பிடித்து அந்த இடத்திலேயே அவனைக் கீழே தள்ளுகிறது. அவன் வாயில் நுரை தள்ளிப் பற்களை நெரிக்கிறான்; உடம்பும் விறைத்துப் போகிறது. அதை ஓட்டிவிடும்படி நான் உம் சீடரிடம் கேட்டேன்; அவர்களால் இயலவில்லை” என்று கூறினார்.

அதற்கு அவர் அவர்களிடம், “நம்பிக்கையற்ற தலைமுறையினரே, எவ்வளவு காலம் நான் உங்களோடு இருக்க இயலும்? எவ்வளவு காலம் நான் உங்களைப் பொறுத்துக்கொள்ள இயலும்? அவனை என்னிடம் கொண்டு வாருங்கள்” என்று கூறினார். அவர்கள் அவனை அவரிடம் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள். அவரைக் கண்டவுடன் அந்த ஆவி அவனுக்கு வலிப்பு உண்டாக்க, அவன் தரையில் விழுந்து புரண்டான்; வாயில் நுரை தள்ளியது.

அவர் அவனுடைய தந்தையைப் பார்த்து, “இது இவனுக்கு வந்து எவ்வளவு காலமாயிற்று?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவர், “குழந்தைப் பருவத்திலிருந்து இது இருந்து வருகிறது. இவனை ஒழித்துவிடத் தீயிலும் தண்ணீரிலும் பல முறை அந்த ஆவி இவனைத் தள்ளியதுண்டு. உம்மால் ஏதாவது செய்ய இயலுமானால் எங்கள்மீது பரிவு கொண்டு எங்களுக்கு உதவி செய்யும்” என்றார்.

இயேசு அவரை நோக்கி, “இயலுமானாலா? நம்புகிறவருக்கு எல்லாம் நிகழும்” என்றார். உடனே அச்சிறுவனின் தந்தை, “நான் நம்புகிறேன். என் நம்பிக்கையின்மை நீங்க உதவும்” என்று கதறினார்.

அப்போது மக்கள் கூட்டம் தம்மிடம் ஓடிவருவதை இயேசு கண்டு, அந்தத் தீய ஆவியை அதட்டி, “ஊமைச் செவிட்டு ஆவியே, உனக்குக் கட்டளையிடுகிறேன்: இவனை விட்டுப் போ; இனி இவனுள் நுழையாதே” என்றார். அது அலறி அவனுக்கு மிகுந்த வலிப்பு உண்டாக்கி வெளியேறியது. அச்சிறுவன் செத்தவன் போலானான். ஆகவே அவர்களுள் பலர், “அவன் இறந்துவிட்டான்” என்றனர். இயேசு அவன் கையைப் பிடித்துத் தூக்கிவிட்டார். அவனும் எழுந்தான்.

அவர் வீட்டில் நுழைந்ததும் அவருடைய சீடர் அவரிடம் தனிமையாக வந்து, “அதை ஏன் எங்களால் ஓட்ட இயலவில்லை?” என்று கேட்டனர். அதற்கு அவர், “இவ்வகைப் பேய் இறைவேண்டலினாலும் நோன்பினாலும் அன்றி வேறு எதனாலும் வெளியேறாது” என்றார்.

When Jesus, with Peter, James and John came down from the mountain and rejoined the disciples, they saw a large crowd round them and some scribes arguing with them. The moment they saw him the whole crowd were struck with amazement and ran to greet him. ‘What are you arguing about with them?’ he asked. A man answered him from the crowd, ‘Master, I have brought my son to you; there is a spirit of dumbness in him, and when it takes hold of him it throws him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and goes rigid. And I asked your disciples to cast it out and they were unable to.’ ‘You faithless generation’ he said to them in reply. ‘How much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him to me.’ They brought the boy to him, and as soon as the spirit saw Jesus it threw the boy into convulsions, and he fell to the ground and lay writhing there, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the father, ‘How long has this been happening to him?’ ‘From childhood,’ he replied ‘and it has often thrown him into the fire and into the water, in order to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us.’ ‘If you can?’ retorted Jesus. ‘Everything is possible for anyone who has faith.’ Immediately the father of the boy cried out, ‘I do have faith. Help the little faith I have!’ And when Jesus saw how many people were pressing round him, he rebuked the unclean spirit. ‘Deaf and dumb spirit,’ he said ‘I command you: come out of him and never enter him again.’ Then throwing the boy into violent convulsions it came out shouting, and the boy lay there so like a corpse that most of them said, ‘He is dead.’ But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him up, and he was able to stand. When he had gone indoors his disciples asked him privately, ‘Why were we unable to cast it out?’ ‘This is the kind’ he answered ‘that can only be driven out by prayer.’

Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your property back from the man who robs you. Treat others as you would like them to treat you. If you love those who love you, what thanks can you expect? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what thanks can you expect? For even sinners do that much. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what thanks can you expect? Even sinners lend to sinners to get back the same amount. A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 15: 45-49 

The first man, Adam, as scripture says, became a living soul; but the last Adam has become a life-giving spirit. That is, first the one with the soul, not the spirit, and after that, the one with the spirit. The first man, being from the earth, is earthly by nature; the second man is from heaven. As this earthly man was, so are we on earth; and as the heavenly man is, so are we in heaven. And we, who have been modelled on the earthly man, will be modelled on the heavenly man.

Saul set off and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, accompanied by three thousand men chosen from Israel to search for David in the wilderness of Ziph.

  In the dark David and Abishai made their way towards the force, where they found Saul lying asleep inside the camp, his spear stuck in the ground beside his head, with Abner and the troops lying round him.

  Then Abishai said to David, ‘Today God has put your enemy in your power; so now let me pin him to the ground with his own spear. Just one stroke! I will not need to strike him twice.’ David answered Abishai, ‘Do not kill him, for who can lift his hand against the Lord’s anointed and be without guilt? The Lord forbid that I should raise my hand against the Lord’s anointed! But now take the spear beside his head and the pitcher of water and let us go away.’ David took the spear and the pitcher of water from beside Saul’s head, and they made off. No one saw, no one knew, no one woke up; they were all asleep, for a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen on them.

பிறர் குற்றவாளிகள் எனத் தீர்ப்பளிக்காதீர்கள்; அப்போதுதான் நீங்களும் தீர்ப்புக்கு உள்ளாகமாட்டீர்கள். மற்றவர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்யாதீர்கள்; அப்போதுதான் நீங்களும் கண்டனத்துக்கு ஆளாக மாட்டீர்கள். மன்னியுங்கள்; மன்னிப்புப் பெறுவீர்கள். கொடுங்கள்; உங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்படும்; அமுக்கிக் குலுக்கிச் சரிந்து விழும்படி நன்றாய் அளந்து உங்கள் மடியில் போடுவார்கள். நீங்கள் எந்த அளவையால் அளக்கிறீர்களோ அதே அளவையால் உங்களுக்கும் அளக்கப்படும்.”

மண்ணைச் சார்ந்தவரின் சாயலைக் கொண்டிருப்பதுபோல, விண்ணைச் சார்ந்தவரின் சாயலையும் கொண்டிருப்போம்.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கொரிந்தியருக்கு எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 15: 45-49

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

முதல் மனிதராகிய ஆதாம் உயிர் பெற்று மனித இயல்புள்ளவர் ஆனார்; கடைசி ஆதாமோ உயிர் தரும் தூய ஆவியானார். தூய ஆவிக்குரியது முந்தியது அல்ல; மனித இயல்புக்குரியதே முந்தியது. தூய ஆவிக்குரியது பிந்தியது. முதல் மனிதர் களிமண்ணால் ஆனவர்; அவர் மண்ணிலிருந்து வந்தவர். இரண்டாம் மனிதரோ விண்ணிலிருந்து வந்தவர். மண்ணைச் சார்ந்த மனிதர் போலவே மண்ணைச் சார்ந்த யாவரும் இருப்பர். விண்ணைச் சார்ந்த மனிதர் போலவே விண்ணைச் சார்ந்த யாவரும் இருப்பர்.

எனவே நாம் மண்ணைச் சார்ந்தவரின் சாயலைக் கொண்டிருப்பது போல விண்ணைச் சார்ந்தவரின் சாயலையும் கொண்டிருப்போம்.

சவுல் சீபு பாலைநிலத்தில் தாவீதைத் தேடுவதற்காக, இஸ்ரயேலில் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட மூவாயிரம் பேருடன், அதை நோக்கிப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார்.

ஆதலால் தாவீதும் அபிசாயும் இரவில் அப்பாளையத்திற்குச் சென்றனர்; சவுல் கூடாரத்தினுள் தூங்குவதையும் அவர் தலைமாட்டில் அவரது ஈட்டி தரையில் குத்தியிருப்பதையும் கண்டனர்; அப்னேரும் படைவீரர்களும் அவரைச் சுற்றிலும் படுத்து உறங்கினர். அபிசாய் தாவீதிடம், “இந்நாளில் கடவுள் உம் எதிரியை உம்மிடம் ஒப்புவித்துள்ளார்; ஆதலால் இப்பொழுது நான் அவரை ஈட்டியால் இரண்டு முறை குத்தாமல், ஒரே குத்தாய் நிலத்தில் பதியக் குத்தப் போகிறேன்” என்றான். ஆனால் தாவீதுஅபிசாயியை நோக்கி, “அவரைக் கொல்லாதே! ஆண்டவரால் திருப்பொழிவு செய்யப்பட்டவர் மேல் கைவைத்துவிட்டுக் குற்றமற்று இருப்பவன் யார்?” என்று சொல்லித் தடுத்தார்.

அவ்வாறே தாவீது சவுலின் தலைமாட்டில் இருந்த ஈட்டியையும் தண்ணீர்க் குவளையையும் எடுத்துக் கொண்டபின், அவர்கள் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றனர். அவர்களில் ஒருவரும் விழிக்கவில்லை; அதைக் காணவும் இல்லை; அறியவும் இல்லை. ஆண்டவர் அவர்களுக்கு ஆழ்ந்த உறக்கத்தை அளித்திருந்தபடியால் அவர்கள் எல்லாரும் தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தனர்.

பின்பு தாவீது கடந்து சென்று தொலைவிலிருந்த ஒரு குன்றின்மீது நின்றார். அவர்களுக்கிடையே மிகுந்த இடைவெளி இருந்தது. தாவீது மறுமொழியாக, “அரசே, உம் ஈட்டி இதோ உள்ளது; இளைஞரில் ஒருவன் இப்புறம் வந்து அதைக் கொண்டுபோகட்டும். அவனவன் நீதிக்கும் உண்மைக்கும் ஏற்ப ஆண்டவர் உம்மை என்னிடம் ஒப்புவித்தும், ஆண்டவரால் திருப்பொழிவு செய்யப்பட்டவர்மேல் நான் கை வைக்கவில்லை” என்றார்.

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say he is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But you,’ he said ‘who do you say I am?’ Then Simon Peter spoke up, ‘You are the Christ,’ he said ‘the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Simon son of Jonah, you are a happy man! Because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven. So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. A reading from the first letter of St.Peter 5: 1-4

Now I have something to tell your elders: I am an elder myself, and a witness to the sufferings of Christ, and with you I have a share in the glory that is to be revealed. Be the shepherds of the flock of God that is entrusted to you: watch over it, not simply as a duty but gladly, because God wants it; not for sordid money, but because you are eager to do it. Never be a dictator over any group that is put in your charge, but be an example that the whole flock can follow. When the chief shepherd appears, you will be given the crown of unfading glory.

இயேசு, பிலிப்புச் செசரியா பகுதிக்குச் சென்றார். அவர் தம் சீடரை நோக்கி, “மானிடமகன் யாரென்று மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அதற்கு அவர்கள், “சிலர் திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் எனவும் வேறு சிலர் எலியா எனவும் மற்றும் சிலர் எரேமியா அல்லது பிற இறைவாக்கினருள் ஒருவர் என்றும் சொல்கின்றனர்” என்றார்கள்.
