“Young girl, I tell you, get up! "
A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Mark (5, 21-43)
At that time, Jesus sailed back to the other bank, and a large crowd gathered around him. He was at the seaside. One of the synagogue leaders, named Jaire, arrives. Seeing Jesus, he falls at his feet and begs him earnestly: “My daughter, still so young, is at the last extremity. Come lay your hands on her so that she may be saved and live. Jesus went with him, and the crowd that followed him was so large that they crushed him.
Now, a woman, who had been bleeding for twelve years… - she had suffered a lot from the treatment of many doctors, and she had spent all her possessions without having the slightest improvement; on the contrary, her condition had rather worsened -… this woman then, having heard what was said about Jesus, came from behind in the crowd and touched her garment. She said to herself, "If I manage to touch only her garment, I will be saved." Instantly the bleeding stopped, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her ailment. Immediately Jesus realized that a force had come out of him. He turned around in the crowd, and he was asking, "Who touched my clothes?" His disciples answered him: "You can see the crowd crushing you, and you ask: “Who touched me?” But he was looking around to see who had done this. Then the woman, seized with fear and all trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and told him the whole truth. Jesus then said to her: “My daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be healed of your pain. "
While he was still speaking, people came from the house of Jairus, the head of the synagogue, to say to him: “Your daughter has just died. What is the use of disturbing the Master again? Jesus, surprising these words, said to the synagogue head: "Do not fear, only believe. He did not let anyone accompany him, except Pierre, Jacques, and Jean, Jacques' brother. They arrive at the house of the synagogue head. Jesus sees the turmoil, and people crying and screaming. He comes in and says to them, "Why all the fuss and the crying?" The child is not dead: she is sleeping. But we laughed at him. So he puts everyone outside, takes with him the father and mother of the child, and those who were with him; then he enters where the child was lying. He grabs the child's hand, and says: "Talitha koum", which means: “Young girl, I tell you, get up! Immediately the young girl stood up and began to walk - she was indeed twelve years old. They were struck with great amazement. And Jesus firmly commanded them not to let anyone know; then he tells them to feed her.
- Let us acclaim the Word of God.
