அந்நாள்களில்

நெடுநேர விவாதத்திற்குப் பின்பு, பேதுரு எழுந்து, திருத்தூதர்களையும் மூப்பர்களையும் நோக்கிக் கூறியது:

“சகோதரரே, பிற இனத்தவர் என் வாய்மொழி வழியாக நற்செய்தியைக் கேட்டு அதில் நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளும்படி கடவுள் தொடக்கத்திலேயே உங்களிடமிருந்து என்னைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார் என்பதை நீங்கள் அறிவீர்கள். உள்ளங்களை அறியும் கடவுள் நமக்குத் தூய ஆவியைக் கொடுத்தது போல் அவர்களுக்கும் கொடுத்து அவர்களை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டார். நம்பிக்கையால் அவர்களுடைய உள்ளங்களைத் தூய்மைப்படுத்தினார். நமக்கும் அவர்களுக்கும் இடையே அவர் எந்த வேறுபாடும் காட்டவில்லை. ஆகவே நம் மூதாதையரோ நாமோ சுமக்க இயலாத நுகத்தை இப்போது நீங்கள் இந்தச் சீடருடைய கழுத்தில் வைத்துக் கடவுளை ஏன் சோதிக்கிறீர்கள்? ஆண்டவர் இயேசுவின் அருளால் நாம் மீட்புப் பெறுவதுபோலவே அவர்களும் மீட்புப் பெறுகிறார்கள் என நம்புகிறோம்.”

இதைக் கேட்டு அங்குத் திரண்டிருந்தோர் யாவரும் அமைதியாயினர். கடவுள் தங்கள் வழியாகப் பிற இனத்தவரிடம் அடையாளங்களும் அருஞ்செயல்களும் செய்தார் என்பதைப் பர்னபாவும் பவுலும் எடுத்துரைத்ததை அவர்கள் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தனர். அவர்கள் பேசி முடித்ததும், யாக்கோபு அவர்களைப் பார்த்துக் கூறியது: “சகோதரரே, நான் கூறுவதைக் கேளுங்கள். கடவுள் பிற இனத்தாரிடமிருந்து தமக்கென மக்களைத் தேர்ந்துகொள்ள முதலில் அவர்களைத் தேடி வந்த செய்தியைச் சீமோன் எடுத்துரைக்கக் கேட்டீர்கள். இறைவாக்கினரின் சொற்களும் இதற்கு ஒத்திருக்கின்றன. அவர்கள் பின்வருமாறு எழுதியுள்ளார்கள்:

‘இவற்றுக்குப்பின் நான் திரும்பி வந்து விழுந்து கிடக்கும் தாவீதின் கூடாரத்தை மீண்டும் எழுப்புவேன்; அதிலுள்ள கிழிசல்களைப் பழுதுபார்த்து அதைச் சீர்படுத்துவேன். அப்பொழுது மக்களுள் எஞ்சியிருப்போரும் என் திருப்பெயரைத் தாங்கியிருக்கும் வேற்று இனத்தார் அனைவரும் ஆண்டவரைத் தேடுவர், என்கிறார் இதைச் செயல்படுத்தும் ஆண்டவர்.’

And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith. Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.” And all the assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles. After they finished speaking, James replied, “Brothers, listen to me. Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name. In those days: Some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” And after Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question. So, being sent on their way by the church, they passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles, and brought great joy to all the brothers. When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they declared all that God had done with them. But some believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees rose up and said, “It is necessary to circumcise them and to order them to keep the law of Moses.” The apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider this matter.

In those days: Jews came [to Lystra] from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe. When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed. Then they passed through Pisidia, and came to Pamphylia. And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia, and from there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work that they had fulfilled. And when they arrived and gathered the church together, they declared all that God had done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: அமைதியை உங்களுக்கு விட்டுச் செல்கிறேன்; என் அமைதியையே உங்களுக்கு அளிக்கிறேன். நான் உங்களுக்குத் தரும் அமைதி உலகம் தரும் அமைதி போன்றது அல்ல. நீங்கள் உள்ளம் கலங்க வேண்டாம்; மருள வேண்டாம். ‘நான் போகிறேன், பின் உங்களிடம் திரும்பி வருவேன்’ என்று நான் உங்களிடம் சொன்னதைக் கேட்டீர்களே! நீங்கள் என்மீது அன்பு கொண்டிருந்தால் நான் தந்தையிடம் செல்வதுபற்றி மகிழ்ச்சி அடைவீர்கள். ஏனெனில் தந்தை என்னைவிடப் பெரியவர்.

இவை நிகழும்போது நீங்கள் நம்புமாறு இப்போதே, இவை நிகழுமுன்பே, சொல்லிவிட்டேன். இனி நான் உங்களோடு மிகுதியாகப் பேசப் போவதில்லை; ஏனெனில் இவ்வுலகின் தலைவன் வந்துகொண்டிருக்கிறான். அவனுக்கு என்மேல் அதிகாரம் இல்லை. ஆனால் நான் தந்தைமீது அன்புகொண்டுள்ளேன் என்பதையும் அவர் எனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடி செயல்படுகிறேன் என்பதையும் உலகு தெரிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும்.

அந்நாள்களில்

அந்தியோக்கியாவிலிருந்தும் இக்கோனியாவிலிருந்தும் யூதர்கள் வந்து மக்களைத் தூண்டிவிட்டு, பவுல்மேல் கல் எறிந்தார்கள்; அவர் இறந்துவிட்டார் என்று எண்ணி நகருக்கு வெளியே அவரை இழுத்துப் போட்டார்கள். சீடர்கள் அவரைச் சூழ்ந்து நின்றபோது அவர் எழுந்து நகரினுள் சென்றார். மறுநாள் அவர் பர்னபாவுடன் தெருபைக்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார்.

அந்த நகரில் அவர்கள் நற்செய்தி அறிவித்துப் பலரைச் சீடராக்கியபின் லிஸ்திரா, இக்கோனியா, அந்தியோக்கியா ஆகிய நகரங்களுக்குத் திரும்பி வந்தார்கள். அங்குள்ள சீடர்களின் உள்ளத்தை அவர்கள் உறுதிப்படுத்தி, “நாம் பல வேதனைகள் வழியாகவே இறையாட்சிக்கு உட்படவேண்டும்” என்று கூறி நம்பிக்கையில் நிலைத்திருக்கும்படி அவர்களை ஊக்குவித்தார்கள். அவர்கள் ஒவ்வொரு திருச்சபையிலும் மூப்பர்களைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்து, நோன்பிருந்து இறைவனிடம் வேண்டித் தாங்கள் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருந்த ஆண்டவரிடம் அவர்களை ஒப்படைத்தார்கள்; பின்பு பிசிதியா வழியாகப் பம்பிலியா வந்தார்கள். பெருகை நகரில் இறைவார்த்தையை அறிவித்தபின் அத்தாலியா வந்தார்கள்; அங்கிருந்து கப்பலேறி அந்தியோக்கியா வந்தார்கள்; அங்குதான் அவர்கள் அருள் வழங்கும் கடவுளின் பணிக்கென்று அர்ப்பணிக்கப்பட்டார்கள். இப்போது அப்பணியைச் செய்து முடித்துவிட்டார்கள். அவர்கள் அங்கு வந்ததும் திருச்சபையைக் கூட்டி, கடவுள் தங்கள் வழியாகச் செய்த அனைத்தையும், அவர் பிற இனத்தவர்க்கு நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளும் வாய்ப்பைக் கொடுத்ததையும் அறிவித்தார்கள். அங்கே அவர்கள் சீடர்களுடன் பல நாள்கள் தங்கினார்கள்.

இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “என் கட்டளைகளை ஏற்றுக் கடைப்பிடிப்பவர் என்மீது அன்பு கொண்டுள்ளார். என்மீது அன்பு கொள்பவர்மீது தந்தையும் அன்பு கொள்வார். நானும் அவர்மீது அன்பு கொண்டு அவருக்கு என்னை வெளிப்படுத்துவேன்.”
