"The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David" 

Reading from the second book of Samuel (7, 4-5a.12-14a.16) 

That night the word of the Lord was addressed to the prophet Nathan: "Go and say to my servant David: Thus says the Lord: When your days are fulfilled, and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up a successor among your descendants. , which will be born of you, and I will make his kingship stable. It is he who will build a house for my name, and I will make his royal throne stable forever. I will be a father to him; and he will be a son to me. அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு யூதர்களை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “என்னைப்பற்றி நானே சான்று பகர்ந்தால், என் சான்று செல்லாது. என்னைப்பற்றிச் சான்று பகர வேறு ஒருவர் இருக்கிறார். என்னைப்பற்றி அவர் கூறும் சான்று செல்லும் என எனக்குத் தெரியும். யோவானிடம் ஆள் அனுப்பி நீங்கள் கேட்டபோது அவரும் உண்மைக்குச் சான்று பகர்ந்தார். மனிதர் தரும் சான்று எனக்குத் தேவை என்பதற்காக அல்ல; நீங்கள் மீட்புப் பெறுவதற்காகவே இதைச் சொல்கிறேன். யோவான் எரிந்து சுடர்விடும் விளக்கு. நீங்கள் சிறிது நேரமே அவரது ஒளியில் களிகூர விரும்பினீர்கள். யோவான் பகர்ந்த சான்றைவிட மேலான சான்று எனக்கு உண்டு. நான் செய்து முடிக்குமாறு தந்தை என்னிடம் ஒப்படைத்துள்ள செயல்களே அச்சான்று.

நான் செய்துவரும் அச்செயல்களே தந்தை என்னை அனுப்பியுள்ளார் என்பதற்கான சான்றாகும். “என்னை அனுப்பிய தந்தையும் எனக்குச் சான்று பகர்ந்துள்ளார். நீங்கள் ஒருபோதும் அவரது குரலைக் கேட்டதுமில்லை; அவரது உருவைக் கண்டதுமில்iலை. அவரது வார்த்தையும் உங்களுக்குள் நிலைத்திருக்கவில்லை; ஏனெனில், அவர் அனுப்பியவரை நீங்கள் நம்பவில்லை. மறைநூல் வழியாக நிலைவாழ்வு கிடைக்கும் என எண்ணி அதனைத் துருவித் துருவி ஆய்ந்து பார்க்கிறீர்களே! அம்மறைநூலும் எனக்குச் சான்று பகர்கிறது. வாழ்வு பெறுமாறு என்னிடம் வர உங்களுக்கு விருப்பம் இல்லை.

மனிதர் தரும் பெருமை எனக்குத் தேவையில்லை. உங்களை எனக்குத் தெரியும். உங்களிடம் இறையன்பு இல்லை. நான் என் தந்தையின் பெயரால் வந்துள்ளேன். ஆனால் என்னை நீங்கள் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை. வேறொருவர் தம் சொந்தப் பெயரால் வருவாரானால் அவரை நீங்கள் ஏற்றுக்கொள்வீர்கள். கடவுள் ஒருவரே. அவர் தரும் பெருமையை நாடாது, ஒருவர் மற்றவரிடமிருந்து பெருமை தேடிக்கொள்கிறீர்களே! உங்களால் எப்படி என்னை நம்ப இயலும்? தந்தையின் முன்னிலையில் உங்கள்மேல் குற்றம் சுமத்தப்போகிறவன் நான் என நினைக்காதீர்கள். உங்கள் சார்பாக நிற்பார் என நீங்கள் எதிர்பார்க்கும் மோசேயே உங்கள்மேல் குற்றம் சுமத்துவார். நீங்கள் மோசேயை நம்பியிருந்தால் என்னையும் நம்பியிருப்பீர்கள். ஏனெனில் அவர் என்னைப் பற்றித்தான் எழுதினார். அவர் எழுதியவற்றை நீங்கள் நம்பவில்லை என்றால் நான் சொல்பவற்றை எவ்வாறு நம்பப் போகிறீர்கள்?”

அந்நாள்களில்

சீனாய் மலையில் ஆண்டவர் மோசேயை நோக்கி, “இங்கிருந்து இறங்கிப் போ. நீ எகிப்திலிருந்து நடத்திவந்த உன் மக்கள் தங்களுக்குக் கேடு வருவித்துக்கொண்டனர். நான் கட்டளையிட்ட நெறியிலிருந்து இதற்குள்ளாகவே விலகி அவர்கள் தங்களுக்கென ஒரு கன்றுக்குட்டியை வார்த்துக்கொண்டார்கள். அதற்கு வழிபாடு செய்து, பலியிட்டு, ‘இஸ்ரயேலே, எகிப்து நாட்டினின்று உன்னை நடத்தி வந்த தெய்வங்கள் இவையே’ என்று கூறிக்கொள்கிறார்கள்” என்றார். மேலும் ஆண்டவர் மோசேயிடம், “இம்மக்களை எனக்குத் தெரியும்; வணங்காக் கழுத்துள்ள மக்கள் அவர்கள். இப்போது என்னை விட்டுவிடு. அவர்கள்மேல் என் கோபக்கனல் மூண்டிருப்பதால் நான் அவர்களை அழித்தொழிக்கப் போகிறேன். உன்னையோ பேரினமாக்குவேன்” என்றார்.

அப்போது மோசே தம் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர்முன் மன்றாடி, “ஆண்டவரே, மிகுந்த ஆற்றலோடும் வலிமை மிகு கரத்தோடும் நீர்தாமே எகிப்து நாட்டிலிருந்து கொண்டுவந்த உம் மக்களுக்கு எதிராக உம் கோபம் மூள்வது ஏன்? ‘மலைகளில் அவர்களைச் சாகடிப்பதற்கும் மண்ணிலிருந்து அவர்களை அழித்தொழிப்பதற்குமாக வஞ்சகமாய் ஆண்டவர் அவர்களைக் கூட்டிச் சென்றார்’ என்று எகிப்தியர் சொல்ல இடம் தருவானேன்? உமது கடுஞ்சினத்தை விட்டுவிட்டு உம் மக்களுக்குத் தீங்கிழைக்கும் எண்ணத்தை மாற்றிக்கொள்ளும். உம் அடியாராகிய ஆபிரகாமையும் ஈசாக்கையும் இஸ்ரயேலையும் நினைந்தருளும். நான் உன் வழிமரபினரை விண்மீன்கள் போல் பெருகச் செய்வேன்; நான் வாக்களித்த இந்நாடு முழுவதையும் உன் வழிமரபினருக்கு அளிப்பேன்; அவர்கள் அதை என்றென்றும் உரிமைச் சொத்தாக்கிக் கொள்வர் என்று நீராகவே அவர்களுக்கு ஆணையிட்டு அறிவித்துள்ளீரே” என்று வேண்டிக்கொண்டார். அவ்வாறே ஆண்டவரும் தம் எண்ணத்தை மாற்றிக்கொண்டு தம் மக்களுக்குச் செய்யப்போவதாக அறிவித்த தீங்கைச் செய்யாது விட்டுவிட்டார்.

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (5, 31-47) 

At that time, Jesus said to the Jews, “If it is I who bear witness, my testimony is not true; it is another who bears witness to me, and I know that his testimony to me is true. You sent a delegation to John the Baptist, and he bore witness to the truth. Me, it is not from a man that I receive the testimony, but I speak thus so that you are saved. John was the lamp that burns and shines, and you wanted to rejoice for a moment in his light. But I have for myself a testimony greater than that of John: these are the works which the Father has given me to accomplish; the very works that I do testify that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me bore witness to me. You never heard his voice, you never saw his face, and you do not let his word abide in you, since you do not believe on him whom the Father has sent. You search the Scriptures because you think you will find eternal life there; now the scriptures bear witness to me, and you do not want to come to me to have life! Glory, I do not receive it from men; besides, I know you: you do not have the love of God within you. I have come in the name of my Father, and you do not receive me; let another come in his own name, that one you will receive! How could you believe, you who receive your glory from one another, and who do not seek the glory that comes from the one God? Do not think that it is I who will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, in whom you put your hope. If you believed Moses, you would believe me too, because it is about me that he wrote. But if you don't believe his writings, how will you believe my words? "

Psalm 105 (106) 

Remember me, Lord,

in your loving kindness to your people.

With our fathers, we sinned,

we failed and denied. R 

At the Horeb they make a calf,

they worship a metal object:

they exchanged what was their glory

for the image of a bull, of a ruminant. R 

They forget the God who saves them,

who performed wonders in Egypt,

miracles in the land of Ham,

terrifying actions on the Red Sea. R 

God decided to destroy them.

It was then that Moses, his chosen one,

appeared in the breach before him,

to prevent his fury from destroying them. R
