Philip baptizes a eunuch

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles 8:26-40 

The angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, ‘Be ready to set out at noon along the road that goes from Jerusalem down to Gaza, the desert road.’ So he set off on his journey. Now it happened that an Ethiopian had been on pilgrimage to Jerusalem; he was a eunuch and an officer at the court of the kandake, or queen, of Ethiopia, and was in fact her chief treasurer. He was now on his way home; and as he sat in his chariot he was reading the prophet Isaiah. The Spirit said to Philip, ‘Go up and meet that chariot.’ When Philip ran up, he heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ ‘How can I’ he replied ‘unless I have someone to guide me?’ So he invited Philip to get in and sit by his side. Now the passage of scripture he was reading was this:

Like a sheep that is led to the slaughter-house,

like a lamb that is dumb in front of its shearers,

like these he never opens his mouth.

He has been humiliated and has no one to defend him.

Who will ever talk about his descendants,

since his life on earth has been cut short!

The eunuch turned to Philip and said, ‘Tell me, is the prophet referring to himself or someone else?’ Starting, therefore, with this text of scripture Philip proceeded to explain the Good News of Jesus to him.

  Further along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, ‘Look, there is some water here; is there anything to stop me being baptised?’ He ordered the chariot to stop, then Philip and the eunuch both went down into the water and Philip baptised him. But after they had come up out of the water again Philip was taken away by the Spirit of the Lord, and the eunuch never saw him again but went on his way rejoicing. Philip found that he had reached Azotus and continued his journey proclaiming the Good News in every town as far as Caesarea.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு மக்கள் கூட்டத்தை நோக்கி: “வாழ்வு தரும் உணவு நானே. என்னிடம் வருபவருக்குப் பசியே இராது; என்னிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருப்பவருக்கு என்றுமே தாகம் இராது. ஆனால், நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொன்னவாறே நீங்கள் என்னைக் கண்டிருந்தும் நம்பவில்லை. தந்தை என்னிடம் ஒப்படைக்கும் அனைவரும் என்னிடம் வந்து சேருவர். என்னிடம் வருபவரை நான் புறம்பே தள்ளிவிடமாட்டேன். ஏனெனில் என் சொந்த விருப்பத்தை நிறைவேற்ற அல்ல, என்னை அனுப்பியவரின் விருப்பத்தை நிறைவேற்றவே நான் விண்ணகத்திலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்தேன்.

அவர் என்னிடம் ஒப்படைக்கும் எவரையும் நான் அழிய விடாமல் இறுதி நாளில் அனைவரையும் உயிர்த்தெழச்செய்ய வேண்டும். இதுவே என்னை அனுப்பியவரின் திருவுளம். மகனைக் கண்டு அவரிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளும் அனைவரும் நிலைவாழ்வு பெற வேண்டும் என்பதே என் தந்தையின் திருவுளம். நானும் இறுதி நாளில் அவர்களை உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்வேன்” என்று கூறினார்.

கடவுளை நோக்கி ‘உம் செயல்கள் எவ்வளவு அஞ்சத்தக்கவை’ என்று சொல்லுங்கள். - பல்லவி

‘அனைத்துலகோர் உம்மைப் பணிந்திடுவர்; அவர்கள் உம் புகழ் பாடிடுவர்; உம் பெயரைப் புகழ்ந்து பாடிடுவர்’ என்று சொல்லுங்கள்.

கடலை உலர்ந்த தரையாக அவர் மாற்றினார்; ஆற்றை அவர்கள் நடந்து கடந்தார்கள். ஆங்கே அவரில் நாம் அகமகிழ்ந்தோம்.

தாங்கள் சென்ற இடமெல்லாம் நற்செய்தியை அறிவித்து வந்தனர்.

திருத்தூதர் பணிகள் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 8: 1b-8

அந்த நாள்களில் எருசலேம் திருச்சபை பெரும் இன்னலுக்கு உள்ளாகியது. திருத்தூதர்களைத் தவிர மற்ற அனைவரும் யூதேயா, சமாரியாவின் நாட்டுப் புறமெங்கும் சிதறடிக்கப்பட்டுப் போயினர். இறைப்பற்று உள்ள மக்கள் ஸ்தேவானை அடக்கம் செய்து, அவருக்காக மாரடித்துப் பெரிதும் புலம்பினர். சவுல் வீடுவீடாய் நுழைந்து ஆண்களையும் பெண்களையும் இழுத்துக் கொண்டுபோய், அவர்களைச் சிறையிலடைக்கச் செய்தார். இவ்வாறு அவர் திருச்சபையை அழித்துவந்தார்.

சிதறிய மக்கள் தாங்கள் சென்ற இடமெல்லாம் நற்செய்தியை அறிவித்து வந்தனர். பிலிப்பு சமாரியா நகர் சென்று அங்குள்ள மக்களுக்கு மெசியாவைப்பற்றி அறிவித்தார். பிலிப்பு சொன்னவற்றைக் கேட்டும் அவர் செய்த அரும் அடையாளங்களைக் கண்டும் வந்த திரளான மக்கள் ஒருமனத்தோடு அவருக்குச் செவிசாய்த்தனர். ஏனெனில் பலரைப் பிடித்திருந்த தீய ஆவிகள் அவர்களிடமிருந்து உரத்த குரலுடன் கூச்சலிட்டுக்கொண்டே வெளியேறின. முடக்குவாதமுற்றோர், கால் ஊனமுற்றோர் பலரும் குணம் பெற்றனர். இதனால் அந்நகரில் பெரும் மகிழ்ச்சி உண்டாயிற்று.

that whoever sees the Son and believes in him have eternal life" 

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (6, 35-40) 

At that time, Jesus said to the crowds: “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry; whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But I have already told you: you have seen, and yet you do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me; and whoever comes to me, I'm not going to throw him out. For I came down from heaven to do not my will, but the will of Him who sent me. Now this is the will of him who sent me: that I not lose any of those he has given me, but that I raise them up at the last day. This is my Father's will: that whoever sees the Son and believes in him have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. "

Cheer on God, all the earth;

celebrate the glory of his name,

glorify him by celebrating his praise.

Say to God: “How dreadful are your actions! R 

“All the earth bow down to you,

it sings for you, it sings for your name. "

Come and see the deeds of God,

his formidable exploits for the son of man. R 

He turned the sea into

dry land; they crossed the river on dry ground.

Hence, this joy that he gives us.

He reigns forever by his power. R

FIRST READING 

"Those who had dispersed proclaimed the Good News of the Word wherever they passed" 

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (8, 1b-8) 

On the day of Stephen's death, violent persecution broke out against the Church in Jerusalem. All of them were dispersed throughout the countryside of Judea and Samaria, except for the Apostles. Religious men buried Stephen and celebrated a great mourning for him. As for Saul, he was ravaging the Church, he entered the houses, to tear off men and women, and throw them in prison.

Those who had dispersed proclaimed the Good News of the Word wherever they passed. So Philip, one of the Seven, came to a town in Samaria, and there he was proclaiming Christ. The crowds, with one heart, attached themselves to what Philippe said, for they heard about the signs he was performing, or even saw them. Many of the possessed were delivered from the unclean spirits, who came out with loud cries. Many paralyzed and lame were healed. And there was great joy in that city.
