"Some addressed themselves to people of Greek language to announce them the Good News" 

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (11, 19-26) 

In those days, the brethren, dispersed by the turmoil which occurred during the Stephen's affair, went as far as Phenicia, then to Cyprus and Antioch, without announcing the Word to anyone other than the Jews. Among them, there were some who were from Cyprus and Cyrene, and who, when they arrived in Antioch, also addressed themselves to the Greek-speaking people to announce them the Good News: Jesus is the Lord. The hand of the Lord was with them: a great number of people became believers and turned to the Lord. The news reached the ears of the Church in Jerusalem, and Barnabas was sent to Antioch. When he arrived, seeing the grace of God at work, he was overjoyed. He exhorted them all to remain with a steadfast heart attached to the Lord. He was indeed a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. A large crowd clung to the Lord. Barnabas then went to Tarsus to seek Saul. Having found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they attended Church assemblies, educating large crowds. And it was in Antioch that, for the first time, the disciples received the name of "Christians".

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு கூறியது: ‘‘உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: ஆட்டுக் கொட்டிலில் வாயில் வழியாக நுழையாமல் வேறு வழியாக ஏறிக் குதிப்போர் திருடர் அல்லது கொள்ளையராய் இருப்பர். வாயில் வழியாக நுழைபவர் ஆடுகளின் ஆயர். அவருக்கே காவலர் வாயிலைத் திறந்துவிடுவார். ஆடுகளும் அவரது குரலுக்கே செவிசாய்க்கும். அவர் தம்முடைய சொந்த ஆடுகளைப் பெயர் சொல்லிக் கூப்பிட்டு வெளியே கூட்டிச் செல்வார். தம்முடைய சொந்த ஆடுகள் அனைத்தையும் வெளியே ஓட்டி வந்தபின் அவர் அவற்றிற்கு முன் செல்வார். ஆடுகளும் அவரைப் பின்தொடரும். ஏனெனில் அவரது குரல் அவற்றுக்குத் தெரியும். அறியாத ஒருவரை அவை பின்தொடரா. அவரை விட்டு அவை ஓடிப்போகும். ஏனெனில் அவரது குரல் அவற்றுக்குத் தெரியாது.”

இயேசு அவர்களிடம் உவமையாக இவ்வாறு சொன்னார். ஆனால் அவர் சொன்னதை அவர்கள் புரிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை.

மீண்டும் இயேசு கூறியது: ‘‘உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: ஆடுகளுக்கு வாயில் நானே. எனக்கு முன்பு வந்தவர் அனைவரும் திருடரும் கொள்ளையருமே. அவர்களுக்கு ஆடுகள் செவிசாய்க்கவில்லை. நானே வாயில். என் வழியாக நுழைவோருக்கு ஆபத்து இல்லை. அவர்கள் உள்ளே போவர்; வெளியே வருவர்; மேய்ச்சல் நிலத்தைக் கண்டுகொள்வர். திருடுவதற்கும் கொல்வதற்கும் அழிப்பதற்குமன்றித் திருடர் வேறெதற்கும் வருவதில்லை. ஆனால் நான் ஆடுகள் வாழ்வைப் பெறும்பொருட்டு, அதுவும் நிறைவாகப் பெறும்பொருட்டு வந்துள்ளேன்.”

வாழ்வுக்கு வழியான மன மாற்றத்தைப் பிற இனத்தவருக்கும் கடவுள் கொடுத்தார்.

திருத்தூதர் பணிகள் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 11: 1-18

அந்நாள்களில்

பிற இனத்தவரும் கடவுளின் வார்த்தையை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டதைப்பற்றித் திருத்தூதர்களும் யூதேயாவிலுள்ள சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளும் கேள்விப்பட்டார்கள். பேதுரு எருசலேமுக்குத் திரும்பிவந்தபோது, விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொண்டவர்கள் அவரோடு வாதிட்டனர். ‘‘நீர் ஏன் விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொள்ளாதோரிடம் சென்று அவர்களுடன் உணவு உண்டீர்?” என்று குறை கூறினர்.

பேதுரு நடந்தவற்றை ஒன்றன்பின் ஒன்றாக விளக்கிக் கூறத் தொடங்கினார். ‘‘நான் யோப்பா நகரில் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தபோது மெய்ம்மறந்த நிலையில் ஒரு காட்சி கண்டேன். பெரிய கப்பற்பாயைப் போன்ற ஒரு விரிப்பு நான்கு முனைகளிலும் கட்டப்பட்டு வானத்திலிருந்து இறக்கப்பட்டு என்னிடம் வந்தது. அதை நான் கவனமாக நோக்கியபோது, தரையில் நடப்பன, ஊர்வன, வானில் பறப்பன, காட்டு விலங்குகள் ஆகியவற்றைக் கண்டேன். ‘பேதுரு, எழுந்திடு! இவற்றைக் கொன்று சாப்பிடு’ என்னும் ஒரு குரல் ஒலிப்பதையும் கேட்டேன். அதற்கு நான், ‘வேண்டவே வேண்டாம் ஆண்டவரே, தீட்டானதும் தூய்மையற்றதுமான எதுவும் ஒருபோதும் என் வாய்க்குள் சென்றதில்லையே’ என்றேன். இரண்டாம் முறையும் வானிலிருந்து மறுமொழியாக, ‘தூய்மையானது எனக் கடவுள் கருதுவதைத் தீட்டாகக் கருதாதே’ என்று அக்குரல் ஒலித்தது. இப்படி மும்முறை நடந்தபின்பு யாவும் வானத்துக்கு மீண்டும் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்பட்டன.

அந்நேரத்தில் செசரியாவிலிருந்து என்னிடம் அனுப்பப்பட்ட மூவர் நான் தங்கியிருந்த வீட்டின் முன் வந்து நின்றனர். தூய ஆவியார் என்னிடம், ‘தயக்கம் ஏதுமின்றி அவர்களோடு செல்’ என்று கூறினார். உடனே நானும் இந்த ஆறு சகோதரர்களுமாக அந்த மனிதர் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றோம். அவர் தம் வீட்டில் வானதூதர் வந்து நின்றதைக் கண்டதாகவும், அத்தூதர் பேதுரு என்னும் பெயர் கொண்ட சீமோனை வரவழையும்; நீரும் உம் வீட்டார் அனைவரும் மீட்புப் பெறுவதற்கான வார்த்தைகளை அவர் உம்மோடு பேசுவார் என்று தமக்குக் கூறியதாகவும் எங்களுக்கு அறிவித்தார். நான் பேசத்தொடங்கியதும் தூய ஆவி முதலில் நம்மீது இறங்கி வந்ததுபோல் அவர்கள் மீதும் இறங்கி வந்தது. அப்போது, ‘யோவான் தண்ணீரால் திருமுழுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்; ஆனால் நீங்கள் தூய ஆவியால் திருமுழுக்குப் பெறுவீர்கள்’ என்ற ஆண்டவரின் வார்த்தைகளை நான் நினைவு கூர்ந்தேன். இப்போதும் ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொண்டபோது நமக்கு அருளப்பட்ட அதே கொடையைக் கடவுள் அவர்களுக்கும் கொடுத்தார் என்றால் கடவுளைத் தடுக்க நான் யார்?” என்றார்.

இவற்றைக் கேட்டு அவர்கள் அமைதி அடைந்தனர்; வாழ்வுக்கு வழியான மனமாற்றத்தைப் பிற இனத்தவருக்கும் கடவுள் கொடுத்தார் என்று கூறி அவரைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தார்கள்.

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (10, 1-10) 

At that time Jesus said: "Amen, amen, I say to you: he who enters the sheep pen without going through the door, but who climbs by another place, he is a thief and a bandit. The one who enters by the door is the shepherd, the shepherd of the sheep. The porter opens the door for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. His own sheep he calls each by name, and he brings them out. When he has pushed out all of his, he walks at their head, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. They will never follow a stranger, but they will run away from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers. "

Jesus used this image to address the Pharisees, but they did not understand what he was talking about to them. This is why Jesus spoke again: “Amen, amen, I say to you: I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters through me, he will be saved; he will be able to enter; he can go out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal, kill, destroy. I have come so that the sheep may have life, life in abundance. "

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (11, 1-18) 

In those days the Apostles and the brethren who were in Judea had learned that the nations, too, had received the word of God. When Peter returned to Jerusalem, those who were originally Jewish took him to task, saying: "You entered the house of men who are not circumcised, and you ate with them!" Then Peter took up the matter from the beginning and told them everything in order, saying: "I was in the city of Jaffa, praying, and this is the vision I had in an ecstasy: it was an object which descended. It looked like a large canvas held at the four corners; coming from the sky, it landed near me. Fixing my eyes on her, I examined her and saw the quadrupeds of the earth, the wild beasts, the reptiles and the birds of the air. I heard a voice saying to me: “Get up, Peter, offer them as a sacrifice, and eat! ” I replied: “Certainly not, Lord! Never has any forbidden or unclean food entered my mouth. ” A second time from heaven the voice answered: "What God has declared pure, you do not declare it forbidden." It happened three times, then it all went back to heaven. And behold, at that very moment, in front of the house where I was, three men came up who had been sent to me from Caesarea. The Spirit told me to go with them without hesitation. The six brethren that's here with me, and we went into Centurion Cornelius. He told us how he saw the angel standing in his house and saying, “Send someone to Jaffa to look for Simon nicknamed Peter. He will speak to you words by which you will be saved, you and all your house. As I spoke, the Holy Spirit descended on those who were there, as he had come on us in the beginning. Then I remembered the word that the Lord had said: “John baptized with water, but you, it is in the Holy Spirit that you will be baptized.” And if God gave them the same gift as we did, because they believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to prevent God's action? "Hearing these words, they calmed down and they gave glory to God, saying:" So therefore, even to the nations, God has given the conversion which brings into life!
