"The Holy Spirit and ourselves have decided not to place on you other obligations than these, which are necessary" 

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (15, 22-31) 

In those days, the Apostles and the Elders decided with the whole Church to choose from among themselves men whom they would send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. These were men who had authority among the brethren: Jude, also called Barsabbas, and Silas. Here is what they wrote with their own hand: “The Apostles and the Elders, your brothers, to the brothers from the nations, who reside in Antioch, in Syria and in Cilicia, hello! Whereas some of our people, as we have learned, have gone, without any mandate from us, to make remarks that have thrown you into trouble and dismay, we have unanimously decided to choose men whom we send to you, with our beloved brothers Barnabas and Paul, who have given their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We therefore send you Jude and Silas, who will verbally confirm the following to you: The Holy Spirit and ourselves have decided not to place on you other obligations than these, which are necessary: ​​you refrain from meats offered as sacrifices to idols, from blood, from unbleached meats and from illegitimate unions. You will do well if you keep yourself from all this. Good luck ! "

So the delegates were let go, and they went down to Antioch. Having gathered the multitude of disciples, they delivered the letter. Upon reading it, everyone rejoiced at the comfort it brought.

“சகோதரரே, பிற இனத்தவர் என் வாய்மொழி வழியாக நற்செய்தியைக் கேட்டு அதில் நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளும்படி கடவுள் தொடக்கத்திலேயே உங்களிடமிருந்து என்னைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார் என்பதை நீங்கள் அறிவீர்கள். உள்ளங்களை அறியும் கடவுள் நமக்குத் தூய ஆவியைக் கொடுத்தது போல் அவர்களுக்கும் கொடுத்து அவர்களை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டார். நம்பிக்கையால் அவர்களுடைய உள்ளங்களைத் தூய்மைப்படுத்தினார். நமக்கும் அவர்களுக்கும் இடையே அவர் எந்த வேறுபாடும் காட்டவில்லை. ஆகவே நம் மூதாதையரோ நாமோ சுமக்க இயலாத நுகத்தை இப்போது நீங்கள் இந்தச் சீடருடைய கழுத்தில் வைத்துக் கடவுளை ஏன் சோதிக்கிறீர்கள்? ஆண்டவர் இயேசுவின் அருளால் நாம் மீட்புப் பெறுவதுபோலவே அவர்களும் மீட்புப் பெறுகிறார்கள் என நம்புகிறோம்.”

இதைக் கேட்டு அங்குத் திரண்டிருந்தோர் யாவரும் அமைதியாயினர். கடவுள் தங்கள் வழியாகப் பிற இனத்தவரிடம் அடையாளங்களும் அருஞ்செயல்களும் செய்தார் என்பதைப் பர்னபாவும் பவுலும் எடுத்துரைத்ததை அவர்கள் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தனர். அவர்கள் பேசி முடித்ததும், யாக்கோபு அவர்களைப் பார்த்துக் கூறியது: “சகோதரரே, நான் கூறுவதைக் கேளுங்கள். கடவுள் பிற இனத்தாரிடமிருந்து தமக்கென மக்களைத் தேர்ந்துகொள்ள முதலில் அவர்களைத் தேடி வந்த செய்தியைச் சீமோன் எடுத்துரைக்கக் கேட்டீர்கள். இறைவாக்கினரின் சொற்களும் இதற்கு ஒத்திருக்கின்றன. அவர்கள் பின்வருமாறு எழுதியுள்ளார்கள்:

‘இவற்றுக்குப்பின் நான் திரும்பி வந்து விழுந்து கிடக்கும் தாவீதின் கூடாரத்தை மீண்டும் எழுப்புவேன்; அதிலுள்ள கிழிசல்களைப் பழுதுபார்த்து அதைச் சீர்படுத்துவேன். அப்பொழுது மக்களுள் எஞ்சியிருப்போரும் என் திருப்பெயரைத் தாங்கியிருக்கும் வேற்று இனத்தார் அனைவரும் ஆண்டவரைத் தேடுவர், என்கிறார் இதைச் செயல்படுத்தும் ஆண்டவர்.’

"Me, I believe that we should not bother those who, coming from the nations, turn to God" 

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (15, 7-21) 

In those days, as the conversion of the pagans provoked an intense discussion in the Church of Jerusalem, Peter stood up and said to them: “Brethren, you know very well how God, in the early days, manifested his choice among you: it is by my mouth that the Gentiles have heard the word of the Gospel and come to faith. God, who knows hearts, bore witness to them by giving them the Holy Spirit just as to us; without making any distinction between them and us, he purified their hearts by faith. Now, why then do you put God to the test by placing a yoke on the back of the disciples' necks which our fathers and we did not have the strength to bear? Yes, we believe it, it is by the grace of the Lord Jesus that we are saved, just like they were. "

All the multitude were silent, then they listened to Barnabas and Paul tell all the signs and wonders that God had done through them among the nations. When they had finished, Jacques spoke up and said: “Brothers, listen to me. Simon Peter has explained to you how, from the beginning, God intervened to take among the nations a people who would be in his name. Therefore, I believe that we should not bother those who, coming from the nations, turn to God, but let us write to them to refrain from the defilements of idols, illegitimate unions, unblooded meat and blood. For, from the earliest times, Moses has had people in every city proclaiming his Law, since it is read in the synagogues every Sabbath. "
