"Even on the heathen nations the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out" 

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (10, 25-26.34-35.44-48) 

As Peter arrived in Caesarea to visit Cornelius, a centurion of the Roman army, the latter came to meet him, and, falling at his feet, he bowed down. But Peter picked him up, saying, “Get up. I'm just a man, too. "Then Peter spoke and said:" In truth, I understand, God is impartial: he welcomes, whatever the nation, those who fear him and whose works are righteous. Peter was still speaking when the Holy Spirit descended on all who heard the Word. The believers who accompanied Peter, and who were originally Jews, were amazed to see that even on the nations the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out. Indeed, we heard them speaking in tongues and singing about the greatness of God. Peter then said: “Can anyone refuse the water of baptism to these people who have received the Holy Spirit just like us? And he gave the order to baptize them in the name of Jesus Christ. So they asked him to stay with them for a few days.

பணியாளர் தலைவரைவிடப் பெரியவர் அல்ல என்று நான் உங்களுக்குக் கூறியதை நினைவில் வைத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள். என்னை அவர்கள் துன்புறுத்தினார்கள் என்றால் உங்களையும் துன்புறுத்துவார்கள். என் வார்த்தையைக் கடைப்பிடித்திருந்தால்தானே உங்கள் வார்த்தையையும் கடைப்பிடிப்பார்கள்! என் பெயரின் பொருட்டு உங்களை இப்படியெல்லாம் நடத்துவார்கள். ஏனெனில் என்னை அனுப்பியவரை அவர்கள் அறிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை.”

அந்நாள்களில்

பவுல் தெருபை, லிஸ்திரா ஆகிய நகர்களை வந்தடைந்தார். லிஸ்திராவில் திமொத்தேயு என்னும் பெயருள்ள சீடர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவருடைய தாய் ஆண்டவரிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொண்ட ஒரு யூதப் பெண். தந்தையோ கிரேக்கர். திமொத்தேயு லிஸ்திராவிலும், இக்கோனியாவிலும் உள்ள சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளிடையே நற்சான்று பெற்றவர். பவுல் அவரைத் தம்முடன் கூட்டிச் செல்ல விரும்பினார். அவ்விடங்களிலுள்ள யூதரின் பொருட்டு அவருக்கு விருத்தசேதனம் செய்வித்தார். ஏனெனில் அனைவரும் அவருடைய தந்தை கிரேக்கர் என்று அறிந்திருந்தனர்.

அவர்கள் நகர் நகராகச் சென்றபோது எருசலேமிலுள்ள மூப்பரும் திருத்தூதரும் செய்த தீர்மானங்களை அவர்களிடம் கொடுத்துக் கடைப் பிடிக்குமாறு கூறினார். இவ்வாறு திருச்சபைகள் நம்பிக்கையில் உறுதி பெற்று நாளுக்கு நாள் எண்ணிக்கையில் பெருகிவந்தன.

பின்பு ஆசியாவில் இறைவார்த்தையை அறிவிக்காதவாறு தூய ஆவியார் தடுக்கவே, அவர்கள் பிரிகிய, கலாத்தியப் பகுதிகளைக் கடந்து சென்றனர். அவர்கள் மீசியா அருகே வந்து பித்தினியாவுக்குச் செல்ல முயன்றபோது இயேசுவின் ஆவியார் அவர்களை அங்குப் போகவிடவில்லை. எனவே அவர்கள் மீசியா வழியாகச் சென்று துரோவா நகரை அடைந்தனர்.

பவுல் அங்கு இரவில் ஒரு காட்சி கண்டார். அதில் மாசிதோனியர் ஒருவர் வந்து நின்று, “நீர் மாசிதோனியாவுக்கு வந்து எங்களுக்கு உதவி செய்யும்” என்று வேண்டினார். இக்காட்சியைப் பவுல் கண்டதும், நாங்கள் மாசிதோனியருக்கு நற்செய்தி அறிவிக்க வேண்டும் என்று கடவுள் தீர்மானித்துள்ளார் என எண்ணி, அங்குச் செல்ல வழி தேடினோம்.

At that time, Jesus was saying to his disciples: “If the world hates you, know that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love what is theirs. But you do not belong to the world, since I have chosen you by taking you into the world; that's why the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you: A servant is not greater than his master. If I have been persecuted, you will also be persecuted. If we kept my word, we will also keep yours. People will treat you like this because of my name, because they don't know the One who sent me. "

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (16, 1-10) 

In those days, Paul, who had left Antioch with Silas, then arrived in Derbé, then in Lystra. There was a disciple there named Timothy; her mother was a Jewess who became a believer, but her father was Greek. In Lystra and Iconium, the brothers bore good witness to him. Paul wanted to take her away; he took him with him and had him circumcised on account of the Jews in the region, for they all knew his father was Greek.

In the cities where Paul and his companions passed, they transmitted the decisions taken by the Apostles and the Elders of Jerusalem, so that they come into force. The churches were growing stronger in the faith and the number of their members was increasing every day. Paul and his companions passed through Phrygia and the land of the Galatians, for the Holy Spirit had prevented them from speaking the Word in the province of Asia. Arrived in Mysia, they tried to reach Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus opposed it. They then skirted Mysia and went down to Troas.
