"You must also bear witness to me in Rome" 

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (22, 30; 23, 6-11) 

In those days Paul had been arrested in Jerusalem. The next day the commandant wanted to know for sure what the Jews were accusing him of. He made her remove her ties; then he called together the high priests and all the supreme council, and he sent down Paul to bring him before them. Knowing that the Supreme Council was divided between Sadducees and Pharisees, Paul exclaimed before them: “Brothers, I am a Pharisee, son of Pharisees. It is because of our hope, the resurrection of the dead, that I stand on trial. No sooner had he said this when there was a clash between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. Indeed, the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, no more than an angel or a spirit, while the Pharisees profess all this. There was then a great uproar. A few scribes on the Pharisees' side stood up and protested vigorously, “We find nothing wrong with this man. What if it was a spirit speaking to him, or an angel? The confrontation became very violent, and the captain feared that Paul would be cut to pieces. He ordered the troops to descend to snatch him from the melee and bring him back to the fortress. The next night the Lord came to Paul and said to him, “Courage! You must also bear witness to me in Jerusalem. "May they be one like ourselves" 

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (17, 11b-19) 

At that time, with his eyes raised to heaven, Jesus prayed thus: “Holy Father, keep my disciples united in your name, the name which you have given me, that they may be one, like ourselves. When I was with them, I kept them united in your name, the name you gave me. I have watched over them, and none have been lost except one who goes to their ruin so that the Scripture may be fulfilled. And now that I come to you, I speak thus, in the world, that they may have in them my joy, and that they be filled with it. I gave them your word, and the world hated them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I'm not praying that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the Evil One. They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.

Sanctify them in the truth: your word is truth. Just as you sent me to the world, so I sent them to the world. And for them I sanctify myself, so that they too may be sanctified in the truth. "
