“And now bless the Lord! Here I am going back to the one who sent me ” 

A Reading from the book of Tobit (12, 1.5-15.20) 

In those days, when the wedding was over, Tobith called his son Tobias and said to him, “My child, consider giving your traveling companion his salary, and add a supplement. Tobith called Raphael and said to him, "Take half of what you brought as wages, and go, be well!" Then the angel took them both aside and said to them, "Bless God and praise him before all living for the good he has done to you." Bless him and sing his name. Announce to all men the actions of God as they deserve, and do not hesitate to celebrate it. While it is good to keep the secrets of a king hidden, it is necessary to reveal the works of God and celebrate them as they deserve. Do good, and evil will not get to you. Better to pray in truth and give alms in righteousness, than to be rich with injustice. Better to give alms than to collect gold. Almsgiving delivers from death and cleanses from all sin. Those who give alms will be filled with life, while the sinner and the unjust are their own enemies. I want to reveal the whole truth to you, without hiding anything from you. I just told you that, if it is good to keep the secrets of a king hidden, it is necessary to reveal the works of God as they deserve. Well ! When you prayed at the same time as Sarra, it was I who presented your prayer before the glory of God, so that he would remember it, and I did the same when you buried the dead. When you did not hesitate to get up, to leave your meal and to go and bury a dead person, it is then that I was sent to you to test you, but God also sent me to heal you, as well as Sarra, your daughter-in-law. இயேசு கோவிலில் கற்பித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, “மெசியா தாவீதின் மகன் என்று மறைநூல் அறிஞர் கூறுவது எப்படி? தூய ஆவியின் தூண்டுதலால், ‘ஆண்டவர் என் தலைவரிடம், “நான் உம் பகைவரை உமக்கு அடிபணியவைக்கும் வரை நீர் என் வலப்பக்கம் வீற்றிரும்” என்று உரைத்தார்’ எனத் தாவீதே கூறியுள்ளார் அல்லவா! தாவீது அவரைத் தலைவர் எனக் குறிப்பிடுவதால் அவர் அவருக்கு மகனாக இருப்பது எப்படி?” என்று கேட்டார். அப்போது பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் இயேசு கூறியவற்றை மனமுவந்து கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

அந்நாள்களில்

அன்னா தம் மகன் வரும் வழியைப் பார்த்தவண்ணம் அமர்ந்திருந்தார். மகன் வருவதைக் கண்டு தம் கணவரிடம், “உம் மகன் வருகிறான்; அவனுடன் சென்றவரும் வருகிறார்” என்றார்.

தோபியா தம் தந்தையை அணுகுமுன் இரபேல் அவரிடம், “உன் தந்தை பார்வை பெறுவது உறுதி. அவருடைய கண்களில் மீனின் பித்தப்பையைத் தேய்த்துவிடும். அது அவருடைய கண்களில் உள்ள வெண்புள்ளிகள் சுருங்கி உரிந்து விழச் செய்யும். உம் தந்தை பார்வை பெற்று ஒளியைக் காண்பார்” என்றார். அன்னா ஓடி வந்து தம் மகனைக் கட்டிப்பிடித்துக் கொண்டு, “மகனே, உன்னைப் பார்த்துவிட்டேன். இனி நான் இறக்கலாம்” என்று கூறி மகிழ்ச்சிக் கண்ணீர் வடித்தார்.

தோபித்து எழுந்து, தடுமாறியவாறு முற்றத்தின் கதவு வழியாக வெளியே வந்தார். தோபியா அவரிடம் சென்றார். அவரது கையில் மீனின் பித்தப்பை இருந்தது. தம் தந்தையைத் தாங்கியவாறு அவருடைய கண்களில் ஊதி, “கலங்காதீர்கள், அப்பா” என்றார். பிறகு கண்களில் மருந்திட்டு, தம் இரு கைகளாலும் அவருடைய கண்களின் ஓரத்திலிருந்து படலத்தை உரித்தெடுத்தார். தோபித்து தம் மகனைக் கட்டிப்பிடித்துக் கொண்டு மகிழ்ச்சிக் கண்ணீர் வடித்தவாறே, “என் மகனே, என் கண்ணின் ஒளியே, உன்னைப் பார்த்துவிட்டேன்” என்றார். “கடவுள் போற்றி. அவரது மாபெரும் பெயர் போற்றி! அவருடைய தூய வானதூதர் அனைவரும் போற்றி! அவரது மாபெரும் பெயர் நம்மைப் பாதுகாப்பதாக! எல்லா வானதூதரும் என்றென்றும் போற்றி! கடவுள் என்னைத் தண்டித்தார். இப்போதோ என் மகன் தோபியாவை நான் காண்கிறேன்” என்று கடவுளைப் போற்றினார். தோபியா அக்களிப்புடன் கடவுளை வாயாரப் புகழ்ந்துகொண்டே வீட்டிற்குள் நுழைந்தார்; தம் பயணத்தை வெற்றியாக முடித்துவிட்டதாகவும், பணத்தைத் திரும்பப் பெற்றுவிட்டதாகவும், இரகுவேலின் மகள் சாராவை மணம் புரிந்துகொண்டதாகவும், அவள் நினிவேயின் வாயில் அருகில் வந்து கொண்டிருப்பதாகவும் தம் தந்தையிடம் கூறினார்.

தோபித்து அக்களிப்புடன் ஆண்டவரைப் புகழ்ந்துகொண்டே தம் மருமகளைச் சந்திக்க நினிவேயின் வாயிலுக்குச் சென்றார். நினிவே மக்கள் அவர் செல்வதையும், யாருடைய உதவியுமின்றித் திடமாக நடப்பதையும் கண்டு வியந்தார்கள். தம் கண்களைத் திறந்ததன் வழியாகக் கடவுள் தம்மீது எத்துணை இரக்கம் காட்டியுள்ளார் என்று தோபித்து அவர்கள் முன் அறிக்கையிட்டார். தம் மகன் தோபியாவின் மனைவி சாராவைச் சந்தித்து வாழ்த்தினார். “மருமகளே, உன்னை எங்களிடம் கொண்டுவந்து சேர்த்த உன் கடவுள் போற்றி! மருமகளே, உன் தந்தை வாழ்க! என் மகன் தோபியாவுக்கு என் வாழ்த்துகள். உனக்கும் என் வாழ்த்துகள். மருமகளே, உன் வீட்டிற்குள் வா. நலம், பேறு, மகிழ்ச்சி ஆகிய அனைத்தும் உன்னோடு வருக!” என்று வரவேற்றார்.

A Reading from the book of Tobit (11, 5-17) 

In those days, Anna sat at the entrance to the courtyard and watched the route her son had taken. She recognized him coming and called out to Tobith, "Here is your son coming back, and also his traveling companion." Raphael said to Tobias, before the latter approached his father: "I am sure his eyes will open. Spread the gall of the fish on them; the remedy will cause the eyes to contract and loosen the whitish veil. Your father will regain his sight and see the light. Anna ran to throw herself on her son's neck and said: "I see you again, my child." Now I can die! And she began to cry. As for Tobith, he got up and stumbled through the entrance to the courtyard. Tobias came to him with the gall of the fish in his hand. He breathed in his eyes, grabbed him and said, "Trust, father!" Then he applied the remedy to her and added more. Then, with both hands, he removed the dandruff from the corner of her eyes. Tobith threw himself on his son's neck and said to him, weeping: "I see you again, my child, you, the light of my eyes!" "And he added:" Blessed be God! Blessed be his great name! Blessed be all his holy angels! May his great name be upon us! Blessed be all the angels for all ages! For God had struck me, but here I see my son Tobias again. Tobias walked into the house, all joyful and blessing God with a loud voice. அக்காலத்தில்

மறைநூல் அறிஞருள் ஒருவர், இயேசு சதுசேயர்களுக்கு நன்கு பதில் கூறிக்கொண்டிருந்ததைக் கண்டு அவரை அணுகி வந்து, “அனைத்திலும் முதன்மையான கட்டளை எது?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு இயேசு, “இஸ்ரயேலே கேள். நம் ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுள் ஒருவரே ஆண்டவர். உன் முழு இதயத்தோடும் முழு உள்ளத்தோடும் முழு மனத்தோடும் முழு ஆற்றலோடும் உன் ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுளிடம் அன்புகூர்வாயாக’ என்பது முதன்மையான கட்டளை. ‘உன்மீது நீ அன்புகூர்வது போல் உனக்கு அடுத்திருப்பவர் மீதும் அன்புகூர்வாயாக’ என்பது இரண்டாவது கட்டளை. இவற்றைவிட மேலான கட்டளை வேறு எதுவும் இல்லை” என்றார். அதற்கு மறைநூல் அறிஞர் அவரிடம், “நன்று போதகரே, ‘கடவுள் ஒருவரே; அவரைத் தவிர வேறு ஒரு கடவுள் இல்லை’ என்று நீர் கூறியது உண்மையே. அவரிடம் முழு இதயத்தோடும் முழு அறிவோடும் முழு ஆற்றலோடும் அன்பு செலுத்துவதும், தன்னிடம் அன்பு கொள்வது போல் அடுத்திருப்பவரிடம் அன்பு செலுத்துவதும் எரிபலிகளையும் வேறு பலிகளையும் விட மேலானது” என்று கூறினார். அவர் அறிவுத்திறனோடு பதிலளித்ததைக் கண்ட இயேசு அவரிடம், “நீர் இறையாட்சியினின்று தொலையில் இல்லை” என்றார். அதன்பின் எவரும் அவரிடம் எதையும் கேட்கத் துணியவில்லை.
