We thank God for your faith and your love

A Reading from the Second Letter of St.Paul to Thessalonians 1:1-5,11-12 

From Paul, Silvanus and Timothy, to the Church in Thessalonika which is in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ; wishing you grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  We feel we must be continually thanking God for you, brothers; quite rightly, because your faith is growing so wonderfully and the love that you have for one another never stops increasing; and among the churches of God we can take special pride in you for your constancy and faith under all the persecutions and troubles you have to bear. It all shows that God’s judgement is just, and the purpose of it is that you may be found worthy of the kingdom of God; it is for the sake of this that you are suffering now.

  Knowing this, we pray continually that our God will make you worthy of his call, and by his power fulfil all your desires for goodness and complete all that you have been doing through faith; because in this way the name of our Lord Jesus Christ will be glorified in you and you in him, by the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

கிழக்கிலும் மேற்கிலும் வடக்கிலும் தெற்கிலுமிருந்து மக்கள் வந்து பந்தியில் அமர்வார்கள்.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 13: 22-30

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு நகர்கள், ஊர்கள் தோறும் கற்பித்துக் கொண்டே எருசலேம் நோக்கிப் பயணம் செய்தார். அப்பொழுது ஒருவர் அவரிடம், “ஆண்டவரே, மீட்புப் பெறுவோர் சிலர் மட்டும்தானா?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவர் அவர்களிடம் கூறியது:

“இடுக்கமான வாயில் வழியாக நுழைய வருந்தி முயலுங்கள். ஏனெனில் பலர் உள்ளே செல்ல முயன்றும் இயலாமற்போகும். ‘வீட்டு உரிமையாளரே, எழுந்து கதவைத் திறந்துவிடும்’ என்று கேட்பீர்கள். அவரோ, ‘நீங்கள் எங்கிருந்து வந்தவர்கள் என எனக்குத் தெரியாது’ எனப் பதில் கூறுவார். அப்பொழுது நீங்கள், ‘நாங்கள் உம்மோடு உணவு உண்டோம், குடித்தோம். நீர் எங்கள் வீதிகளில் கற்பித்தீரே’ என்று சொல்வீர்கள்.

ஆனாலும் அவர், ‘நீங்கள் எவ்விடத்தாரோ எனக்குத் தெரியாது. தீங்கு செய்வோரே, அனைவரும் என்னை விட்டு அகன்று போங்கள்’ என உங்களிடம் சொல்வார். ஆபிரகாமும் ஈசாக்கும் யாக்கோபும் இறைவாக்கினர் யாவரும் இறையாட்சிக்கு உட்பட்டிருப்பதையும் நீங்கள் புறம்பே தள்ளப்பட்டிருப்பதையும் பார்க்கும்போது அழுது அங்கலாய்ப்பீர்கள். இறையாட்சியின்போது கிழக்கிலும் மேற்கிலும் வடக்கிலும் தெற்கிலுமிருந்து மக்கள் வந்து பந்தியில் அமர்வார்கள்.

ஆம், கடைசியானோர் முதன்மையாவர்; முதன்மையானோர் கடைசியாவர்.”

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

ஆண்டவர் தாம் யாரிடம் அன்பு கொண்டிருக்கிறாரோ அவர்களைக் கண்டிக்கிறார்.

எபிரேயருக்கு எழுதப்பட்ட திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 12: 5-7, 11-13

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

தம் பிள்ளைகளிடம் பேசுவதுபோல் இறைவன் உங்களுக்குத் தந்த பின்வரும் அறிவுரையை நீங்கள் மறந்துவிட்டீர்கள்: “பிள்ளாய், ஆண்டவர் உன்னைக் கண்டித்துத் திருத்துவதை வேண்டாம் எனத் தள்ளிவிடாதே. அவர் கண்டிக்கும்போது தளர்ந்துபோகாதே. தந்தை தாம் ஏற்றுக் கொண்ட மக்களைத் தண்டிக்கிறார்; ஆண்டவர் தாம் யாரிடம் அன்பு கொண்டிருக்கிறாரோ அவர்களைக் கண்டிக்கிறார்.” திருத்தப்படுவதற்காகத் துன்பங்களைத் தாங்கிக்கொள்ளுங்கள். கடவுள் உங்களைத் தம் பிள்ளைகளாக நடத்துகிறார். தந்தை தண்டித்துத் திருத்தாத பிள்ளை உண்டோ?

இவ்வாறு திருத்தப்படுவது இப்போது மகிழ்ச்சிக்குரியதாய் இராமல், துயரத்துக்குரியதாகவே தோன்றும். ஆனால் பின்னர், இவ்வாறு பயிற்சி பெற்றவர்கள் அமைதியையும் நேர்மையான வாழ்வையும் பயனாகப் பெறுவர். எனவே, “தளர்ந்துபோன கைகளைத் திடப்படுத்துங்கள், தள்ளாடும் முழங்கால்களை உறுதிப்படுத்துங்கள். நீங்கள் நேர்மையான பாதையில் நடந்து செல்லுங்கள்.” அப்போதுதான் ஊனமாய்ப் போன கால்மூட்டு பிசகாமல் குணமடையும்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 13: 22-30 

Through towns and villages Jesus went teaching, making his way to Jerusalem. Someone said to him, ‘Sir, will there be only a few saved?’ He said to them, ‘Try your best to enter by the narrow door, because, I tell you, many will try to enter and will not succeed.

  ‘Once the master of the house has got up and locked the door, you may find yourself knocking on the door, saying, “Lord, open to us” but he will answer, “I do not know where you come from.” Then you will find yourself saying, “We once ate and drank in your company; you taught in our streets” but he will reply, “I do not know where you come from. Away from me, all you wicked men!”

  ‘Then there will be weeping and grinding of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves turned outside. And men from east and west, from north and south, will come to take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.

  ‘Yes, there are those now last who will be first, and those now first who will be last.’

The Lord trains the one he loves

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to Hebrews 12:5-7,11-13 

Have you forgotten that encouraging text in which you are addressed as sons? My son, when the Lord corrects you, do not treat it lightly; but do not get discouraged when he reprimands you. For the Lord trains the ones that he loves and he punishes all those that he acknowledges as his sons. Suffering is part of your training; God is treating you as his sons. Has there ever been any son whose father did not train him? Of course, any punishment is most painful at the time, and far from pleasant; but later, in those on whom it has been used, it bears fruit in peace and goodness. So hold up your limp arms and steady your trembling knees and smooth out the path you tread; then the injured limb will not be wrenched, it will grow strong again.
