What do you have that was not given to you?

A Reading from the First letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 4: 6-15

Take Apollos and myself as an example and remember the maxim: ‘Keep to what is written.’ It is not for you, so full of your own importance, to go taking sides for one man against another. In any case, brother, has anybody given you some special right? What do you have that was not given to you? And if it was given, how can you boast as though it were not? Is it that you have everything you want – that you are rich already, in possession of your kingdom, with us left outside? Indeed I wish you were really kings, and we could be kings with you! But instead, it seems to me, God has put us apostles at the end of his parade, with the men sentenced to death; it is true – we have been put on show in front of the whole universe, angels as well as men. Here we are, fools for the sake of Christ, while you are the learned men in Christ; we have no power, but you are influential; you are celebrities, we are nobodies. To this day, we go without food and drink and clothes; we are beaten and have no homes; we work for our living with our own hands. When we are cursed, we answer with a blessing; when we are hounded, we put up with it; we are insulted and we answer politely. We are treated as the offal of the world, still to this day, the scum of the earth.

I am saying all this not just to make you ashamed but to bring you, as my dearest children, to your senses. You might have thousands of guardians in Christ, but not more than one father and it was I who begot you in Christ Jesus by preaching the Good News.

செப்டம்பர் 2 : நற்செய்தி வாசகம்

மணமகன் பிரியவேண்டிய காலம் வரும்; அப்போது நோன்பு இருப்பார்கள்.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 5: 33-39

அக்காலத்தில்

பரிசேயரும் மறைநூல் அறிஞரும் இயேசுவை நோக்கி, “யோவானுடைய சீடர்கள் அடிக்கடி நோன்பு இருந்து மன்றாடி வருகிறார்கள்; பரிசேயர்களின் சீடரும் அவ்வாறே செய்கின்றனர். உம்முடைய சீடரோ உண்பதும் குடிப்பதுமாக இருக்கின்றனரே!” என்றார்கள். இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “மணமகன் மணவிருந்தினர்களோடு இருக்கும் வரை அவர்களை நோன்பு இருக்கச் செய்யலாமா? ஆனால் மணமகன் அவர்களை விட்டுப் பிரிய வேண்டிய காலம் வரும்; அப்போது அவர்களும் நோன்பு இருப்பார்கள்” என்றார்.

அவர் அவர்களுக்கு ஓர் உவமையையும் கூறினார்: “எவரும் புதிய ஆடையிலிருந்து ஒரு துண்டைக் கிழித்து அதைப் பழைய ஆடையோடு ஒட்டுப் போடுவதில்லை. அவ்வாறு ஒட்டுப் போட்டால் புதிய ஆடையும் கிழியும்; புதிய துண்டும் பழையதோடு பொருந்தாது.

அதுபோலப் பழைய தோற்பைகளில் எவரும் புதிய திராட்சை மதுவை ஊற்றி வைப்பதில்லை; ஊற்றி வைத்தால் புதிய மது தோற்பைகளை வெடிக்கச் செய்யும். மதுவும் சிந்திப் போகும்; தோற்பைகளும் பாழாகும். புதிய மதுவைப் புதிய தோற்பைகளில்தான் ஊற்றி வைக்க வேண்டும். பழைய திராட்சை மதுவைக் குடித்தவர் எவரும் புதியதை விரும்ப மாட்டார்; ஏனெனில் ‘பழையதே நல்லது’ என்பது அவர் கருத்து.”

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

ஆண்டவரிலேயே மகிழ்ச்சி கொள்; உன் உள்ளத்து விருப்பங்களை அவர் நிறைவேற்றுவார். - பல்லவி

உன் வழியை ஆண்டவரிடம் ஒப்படைத்துவிடு; அவரையே நம்பியிரு; அவரே உன் சார்பில் செயலாற்றுவார்.

தீமையினின்று விலகு; நல்லது செய்; எந்நாளும் நாட்டில் நிலைத்திருப்பாய்.

ஏனெனில், ஆண்டவர் நேர்மையை விரும்புகின்றார்; தம் அன்பரை அவர் கைவிடுவதில்லை; அவர்களை என்றும் பாதுகாப்பார். பொல்லாரின் மரபினரோ வேரறுக்கப்படுவர். - பல்லவி

நேர்மையாளருக்கு மீட்பு ஆண்டவரிடமிருந்து வருகின்றது, நெருக்கடியான நேரத்தில் அவர்களுக்கு வலிமையும் அவரே.

ஆண்டவர் துணைநின்று அவர்களை விடுவிக்கின்றார்; பொல்லாரிடமிருந்து அவர்களை விடுவிக்கின்றார்; அவரிடம் அடைக்கலம் புகுந்ததால், அவர்களை மீட்கின்றார். - பல்லவி

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

நீங்கள் எங்களைக் கிறிஸ்துவின் ஊழியர்கள், கடவுளின் மறை உண்மைகளை அறிவிக்கும் பொறுப்புடையவர்கள் எனக் கருத வேண்டும். பொறுப்பாளர்கள் நம்பிக்கைக்கு உரியவர்களாய்க் காணப்பட வேண்டும் என எதிர்பார்க்கலாம் அன்றோ! என்னைப் பொறுத்தமட்டில் எனக்கு எதிராக நீங்களோ மக்களின் நீதிமன்றமோ தீர்ப்பளித்தால் அதைப் பற்றிச் சிறிதும் கவலைப்பட மாட்டேன். எனக்கு நானே தீர்ப்பளித்துக் கொள்ளவும் மாட்டேன். எனக்கு எதிராகக் குற்றம் எதுவும் இருப்பதாகத் தெரியவில்லை. ஆயினும் நான் குற்றமற்றவனாகி விடமாட்டேன். எனக்குத் தீர்ப்பு வழங்குபவர் ஆண்டவர் ஒருவரே. எனவே, குறித்த காலம் வருமுன், அதாவது ஆண்டவரின் வருகைக்கு முன் யாருக்கும் தீர்ப்பளிக்க வேண்டாம். அவரே இருளில் மறைந்திருப்பவற்றை வெட்ட வெளிச்சமாக்குவார்; உள்ளங்களின் நோக்கங்களையும் வெளிப்படுத்துவார். அப்பொழுது ஒவ்வொருவரும் கடவுளிடமிருந்து பாராட்டுப் பெறுவர்.

When the bridegroom is taken from them, then they will fast

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 5: 33-39

The Pharisees and the scribes said to Jesus, ‘John’s disciples are always fasting and saying prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees too, but yours go on eating and drinking.’ Jesus replied, ‘Surely you cannot make the bridegroom’s attendants fast while the bridegroom is still with them? But the time will come, the time for the bridegroom to be taken away from them; that will be the time when they will fast.’

He also told them this parable, ‘No one tears a piece from a new cloak to put it on an old cloak; if he does, not only will he have torn the new one, but the piece taken from the new will not match the old.

‘And nobody puts new wine into old skins; if he does, the new wine will burst the skins and then run out, and the skins will be lost. No; new wine must be put into fresh skins. And nobody who has been drinking old wine wants new. “The old is good” he says.’
