Never forget the deeds of the Lord.

Give heed, my people, to my teaching;

  turn your ear to the words of my mouth.

I will open my mouth in a parable

  and reveal hidden lessons of the past.

Never forget the deeds of the Lord.

When he slew them then they would seek him,

  return and seek him in earnest.

They would remember that God was their rock,

  God the Most High their redeemer.

Never forget the deeds of the Lord.

But the words they spoke were mere flattery;

  they lied to him with their lips.

For their hearts were not truly with him;

  they were not faithful to his covenant.

Never forget the deeds of the Lord.

Yet he who is full of compassion

  forgave them their sin and spared them.

So often he held back his anger

  when he might have stirred up his rage.

Never forget the deeds of the Lord.

If anyone was bitten by a serpent, he looked up at the bronze serpent and lived

A Reading from the Book of Numbers 21: 4-9 

On the way through the wilderness the people lost patience. They spoke against God and against Moses, ‘Why did you bring us out of Egypt to die in this wilderness? For there is neither bread nor water here; we are sick of this unsatisfying food.’

  At this God sent fiery serpents among the people; their bite brought death to many in Israel. The people came and said to Moses, ‘We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you. Intercede for us with the Lord to save us from these serpents.’ Moses interceded for the people, and the Lord answered him, ‘Make a fiery serpent and put it on a standard. If anyone is bitten and looks at it, he shall live.’ So Moses fashioned a bronze serpent which he put on a standard, and if anyone was bitten by a serpent, he looked at the bronze serpent and lived.

இளைஞனே, நான் உனக்குச் சொல்கிறேன், எழுந்திடு.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு நயீன் என்னும் ஊருக்குச் சென்றார். அவருடைய சீடரும் பெருந்திரளான மக்களும் அவருடன் சென்றனர். அவர் அவ்வூர் வாயிலை நெருங்கி வந்தபோது, இறந்த ஒருவரைச் சிலர் தூக்கி வந்தனர். தாய்க்கு அவர் ஒரே மகன்; அத்தாயோ கைம்பெண். அவ்வூரைச் சேர்ந்த பெருந்திரளான மக்களும் அவரோடு இருந்தனர்.

அவரைக் கண்ட ஆண்டவர், அவர்மீது பரிவு கொண்டு, “அழாதீர்” என்றார். அருகில் சென்று பாடையைத் தொட்டார். அதைத் தூக்கிச் சென்றவர்கள் நின்றார்கள்.

அப்பொழுது அவர், “இளைஞனே, நான் உனக்குச் சொல்கிறேன், எழுந்திடு” என்றார். இறந்தவர் எழுந்து உட்கார்ந்து பேசத் தொடங்கினார். இயேசு அவரை அவர் தாயிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார்.

அனைவரும் அச்சமுற்று, “நம்மிடையே பெரிய இறைவாக்கினர் ஒருவர் தோன்றியிருக்கிறார். கடவுள் தம் மக்களைத் தேடி வந்திருக்கிறார்” என்று சொல்லிக் கடவுளைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தனர். அவரைப் பற்றிய இந்தச் செய்தி யூதேயா நாடு முழுவதிலும் சுற்றியுள்ள பகுதிகளிலும் பரவியது.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

உடல் ஒன்றே; உறுப்புகள் பல. உடலின் உறுப்புகள் பலவாயினும் உடல் ஒன்றாய் இருப்பதுபோல கிறிஸ்துவும் இருக்கிறார். ஏனெனில், யூதரானாலும் கிரேக்கரானாலும், அடிமைகளானாலும் உரிமைக் குடிமக்களானாலும் நாம் எல்லாரும் ஒரே தூய ஆவியால் ஒரே உடலாய் இருக்கும்படி திருமுழுக்குப் பெற்றோம். அந்த ஒரே ஆவியையே பானமாகவும் பெற்றோம். உடல் ஒரே உறுப்பால் ஆனது அல்ல; பல உறுப்புகளால் ஆனது.

நீங்கள் கிறிஸ்துவின் உடல்; ஒவ்வொருவரும் அதன் தனித்தனி உறுப்புகள். அவ்வாறே திருச்சபையிலும் கடவுள் முதலாவது திருத்தூதர்களையும், இரண்டாவது இறைவாக்கினர்களையும், மூன்றாவது போதகர்களையும், பின்னர் வல்ல செயல் செய்வோர்களையும், அதன்பின் பிணிதீர்க்கும் அருள்கொடை பெற்றவர்கள், துணை நிற்பவர்கள், தலைமையேற்று நடத்துபவர்கள், பல்வகை பரவசப் பேச்சுப் பேசுகிறவர்கள் ஆகியோரையும் ஏற்படுத்தினார். எல்லாருமே திருத்தூதர்களா? எல்லாருமே இறைவாக்கினர்களா? எல்லாருமே போதகர்களா? எல்லாருமே வல்ல செயல் செய்பவர்களா? இல்லை. எல்லாருமே பிணி தீர்க்கும் அருள்கொடையைப் பெற்றவர்களா? எல்லாருமே பரவசப் பேச்சுப் பேசுகிறவர்களா? எல்லாருமே விளக்கம் அளிப்பவர்களா? இல்லையே! எனவே நீங்கள் மேலான அருள் கொடையையே ஆர்வமாய் நாடுங்கள்.

The only son of his mother, and she a widow

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St,Luke 7: 11-17 

Jesus went to a town called Nain, accompanied by his disciples and a great number of people. When he was near the gate of the town it happened that a dead man was being carried out for burial, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a considerable number of the townspeople were with her. When the Lord saw her he felt sorry for her. ‘Do not cry’ he said. Then he went up and put his hand on the bier and the bearers stood still, and he said, ‘Young man, I tell you to get up.’ And the dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him to his mother. Everyone was filled with awe and praised God saying, ‘A great prophet has appeared among us; God has visited his people.’ And this opinion of him spread throughout Judaea and all over the countryside.
