I shall walk in the presence of God in the light of the living.

My foes will be put to flight

  on the day that I call to you.

This I know, that God is on my side.

In God, whose word I praise,

in God I trust; I shall not fear;

  what can mortal man do to me?

The resurrected body is heavenly by nature

A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 15: 35-37, 42-49 

Someone may ask, ‘How are dead people raised, and what sort of body do they have when they come back?’ They are stupid questions. Whatever you sow in the ground has to die before it is given new life and the thing that you sow is not what is going to come; you sow a bare grain, say of wheat or something like that. It is the same with the resurrection of the dead: the thing that is sown is perishable but what is raised is imperishable; the thing that is sown is contemptible but what is raised is glorious; the thing that is sown is weak but what is raised is powerful; when it is sown it embodies the soul, when it is raised it embodies the spirit.

  If the soul has its own embodiment, so does the spirit have its own embodiment. The first man, Adam, as scripture says, became a living soul; but the last Adam has become a life-giving spirit. That is, first the one with the soul, not the spirit, and after that, the one with the spirit. The first man, being from the earth, is earthly by nature; the second man is from heaven. As this earthly man was, so are we on earth; and as the heavenly man is, so are we in heaven. And we, who have been modelled on the earthly man, will be modelled on the heavenly man.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு நகர் நகராய், ஊர் ஊராய்ச் சென்று இறையாட்சி பற்றிய நற்செய்தியைப் பறைசாற்றி வந்தார். பன்னிருவரும் அவருடன் இருந்தனர். பொல்லாத ஆவிகளினின்றும் நோய்களினின்றும் குணமான பெண்கள் சிலரும், ஏழு பேய்கள் நீங்கப்பெற்ற மகதலா மரியாவும் ஏரோதுவின் மாளிகை மேற்பார்வையாளர் கூசாவின் மனைவி யோவன்னாவும் சூசன்னாவும் மேலும் பல பெண்களும் அவரோடு இருந்தார்கள். இவர்கள் தங்கள் உடைமைகளைக் கொண்டு அவருக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்து வந்தார்கள்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

இறந்த கிறிஸ்து உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்டார் என அறிவிக்கப்பட்டிருக்க, உங்களுள் சிலர் இறந்தோர் உயிர்த்தெழுவதில்லை எனச் சொல்வது ஏன்? இறந்தோர் உயிர்த்தெழ மாட்டார் எனில், கிறிஸ்துவும் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்படவில்லை என்றாகிவிடும். கிறிஸ்து உயிருடன் எழுப்பப் படவில்லை என்றால், நாங்கள் பறைசாற்றிய நற்செய்தியும் நீங்கள் கொண்டிருக்கிற நம்பிக்கையும் பொருளற்றதாயிருக்கும். நாங்களும் கடவுளின் சார்பில் பொய்ச் சான்று பகர்வோர் ஆவோம். ஏனெனில் இறந்தோர் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்படுவதில்லை என்றால் கடவுள் உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்யாத கிறிஸ்துவை, கடவுள்தான் உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்தார் என்று சான்று பகரும்போது கடவுளுக்கு எதிராகச் சான்று கூறியவர்கள் ஆவோம் அல்லவா? ஏனெனில் இறந்தோர் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப் படுவதில்லை என்றால் கிறிஸ்துவும் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்படவில்லை என்றாகிவிடும். கிறிஸ்து உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்படவில்லை என்றால், நீங்கள் கொண்டிருக்கும் நம்பிக்கை பயனற்றதே. நீங்கள் இன்னமும் உங்கள் பாவங்களில் வாழ்பவர்களாவீர்கள். அப்படியானால், கிறிஸ்துவிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டு இறந்தவர்களும் அழிவுக்குள்ளாவார்கள். கிறிஸ்துவிடம் நாம் கொண்டுள்ள எதிர்நோக்கு இவ்வுலக வாழ்வை மட்டும் சார்ந்திருந்தால் எல்லா மக்களையும் விட இரங்குதற்கு உரியவராய் இருப்போம்.

ஆனால் இப்போதோ, இறந்த கிறிஸ்து உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்டார். அவரே முதலில் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்டார். இது அனைவரும் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்படுவர் என்பதை உறுதிப்படுத்துகிறது.

The women who accompanied Jesus

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 8: 1-3 

Jesus made his way through towns and villages preaching, and proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom of God. With him went the Twelve, as well as certain women who had been cured of evil spirits and ailments: Mary surnamed the Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, Susanna, and several others who provided for them out of their own resources.
