There are no more distinctions: all are one in Christ Jesus

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to Galatians 3:22-29 

Scripture makes no exceptions when it says that sin is master everywhere. In this way the promise can only be given through faith in Jesus Christ and can only be given to those who have this faith.

  Before faith came, we were allowed no freedom by the Law; we were being looked after till faith was revealed. The Law was to be our guardian until the Christ came and we could be justified by faith. Now that that time has come we are no longer under that guardian, and you are, all of you, sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. All baptised in Christ, you have all clothed yourselves in Christ, and there are no more distinctions between Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female, but all of you are one in Christ Jesus. Merely by belonging to Christ you are the posterity of Abraham, the heirs he was promised.

நான் கடவுளின் ஆற்றலால் பேய்களை ஓட்டுகிறேன் என்றால் இறையாட்சி உங்களிடம் வந்துள்ளது அல்லவா!

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய தூய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 11: 15-26

அக்காலத்தில்

மக்களுள் சிலர் இயேசுவைக் குறித்து, “பேய்களின் தலைவனாகிய பெயல்செபூலைக் கொண்டே இவன் பேய்களை ஓட்டுகிறான்” என்றனர். வேறு சிலர் அவரைச் சோதிக்கும் நோக்குடன், வானத்திலிருந்து ஏதேனும் ஓர் அடையாளம் காட்டுமாறு அவரிடம் கேட்டனர்.

இயேசு அவர்களுடைய சிந்தனைகளை அறிந்து, அவர்களிடம் கூறியது: “தனக்கு எதிராகத் தானே பிளவுபடும் எந்த அரசும் பாழாய்ப்போகும். அவ்வாறே பிளவுபடும் வீடும் விழுந்துவிடும். சாத்தானும் தனக்கு எதிராகத் தானே பிளவுபட்டுப் போனால் அவனது அரசு எப்படி நிலைத்து நிற்கும்? பெயல்செபூலைக் கொண்டு நான் பேய்களை ஓட்டுகிறேன் என்கிறீர்களே. நான் பெயல்செபூலைக் கொண்டு பேய்களை ஓட்டுகிறேன் என்றால் உங்களைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள் யாரைக் கொண்டு பேய் ஓட்டுகிறார்கள்? ஆகவே அவர்களே உங்கள் கூற்று தவறு என்பதற்குச் சாட்சிகள். நான் கடவுளின் ஆற்றலால் பேய்களை ஓட்டுகிறேன் என்றால் இறையாட்சி உங்களிடம் வந்துள்ளது அல்லவா! வலியவர் ஆயுதம் தாங்கித் தம் அரண்மனையைக் காக்கிறபோது அவருடைய உடைமைகள் பாதுகாப்பாக இருக்கும். அவரைவிட மிகுந்த வலிமையுடையவர் ஒருவர் வந்து அவரை வென்றால் அவர் நம்பியிருந்த எல்லாப் படைக்கலங்களையும் பறித்துக் கொண்டு, கொள்ளைப் பொருளையும் பங்கிடுவார்.

என்னோடு இராதவர் எனக்கு எதிராக இருக்கிறார்; என்னோடு இணைந்து மக்களைக் கூட்டிச் சேர்க்காதவர் அவர்களைச் சிதறடிக்கிறார்.

ஒருவரை விட்டு வெளியேறுகின்ற தீய ஆவி வறண்ட இடங்களில் அலைந்து திரிந்து இளைப்பாற இடம் தேடும். இடம் கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியாமல், ‘நான் விட்டுவந்த எனது வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப் போவேன்’ எனச் சொல்லும். திரும்பி வந்து அவ்வீடு கூட்டி அழகுபடுத்தப்பட்டிருப்பதைக் காணும். மீண்டும் சென்று தன்னைவிடப் பொல்லாத வேறு ஏழு ஆவிகளை அழைத்து வந்து அவருள் புகுந்து அங்கே குடியிருக்கும்.

அவருடைய பின்னைய நிலைமை முன்னைய நிலைமையை விடக் கேடுள்ளதாகும்.”

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

நம்பிக்கை கொண்டு வாழ்பவர்களே ஆபிரகாமின் மக்கள் என்பதை அறிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள். நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளும் பிற இனத்தாரையும் கடவுள் தமக்கு ஏற்புடையவராக்குவார் என்பதை முன்னறிந்துதான் மறைநூல், “உன் வழியாக மக்களினங்கள் அனைத்தும் ஆசி பெறும்” என்னும் நற்செய்தியை ஆபிரகாமுக்கு முன்னுரைத்தது. ஆகவே நம்பிக்கை கொண்ட ஆபிரகாம் பெற்ற அதே ஆசியில் நம்பிக்கை கொள்வோரும் பங்கு பெறுவர்.

திருச்சட்டம் சார்ந்த செயல்களையே நம்பியிருப்பவர்கள் சாபத்துக்கு ஆளானவர்கள்; ஏனெனில், “திருச்சட்டத்தின் வார்த்தைகளை எல்லாம் கடைப்பிடித்து நடவாதோர் சபிக்கப்படட்டும்!” என்று எழுதியுள்ளது. சட்டம் சார்ந்த செயல்களால் எவரும் கடவுள் முன்னிலையில் ஏற்புடையவர் ஆவதில்லை என்பதும் தெளிவு. ஏனெனில், “நேர்மையுடையோர் தம் நம்பிக்கையால் வாழ்வடைவர்.” திருச்சட்டம் நம்பிக்கையை அடிப்படையாய்க் கொண்டது அல்ல. மாறாக, “சட்டம் சார்ந்தவற்றைக் கடைப்பிடிப்போர் அவற்றால் வாழ்வு பெறுவர்” என்று எழுதியுள்ளது.

“மரத்தில் தொங்கவிடப்பட்டோர் சபிக்கப்பட்டோர்” என்று எழுதி உள்ளவாறு, நமக்காகக் கிறிஸ்து சாபத்துக்கு உள்ளாகி நம்மைச் சட்டத்தின் சாபத்தினின்று மீட்டுக் கொண்டார். ஆபிரகாமுக்குக் கிடைத்த ஆசி இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் வழியாய்ப் பிற இனத்தார்க்கும் கிடைக்கவும், வாக்களிக்கப்பட்ட தூய ஆவியை நாம் நம்பிக்கையின் வழியாய்ப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளவுமே இவ்வாறு செய்தார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 11:15-26 

When Jesus had cast out a devil, some of the people said, ‘It is through Beelzebul, the prince of devils, that he casts out devils.’ Others asked him, as a test, for a sign from heaven; but, knowing what they were thinking, he said to them, ‘Every kingdom divided against itself is heading for ruin, and a household divided against itself collapses. So too with Satan: if he is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? – since you assert that it is through Beelzebul that I cast out devils. Now if it is through Beelzebul that I cast out devils, through whom do your own experts cast them out? Let them be your judges then. But if it is through the finger of God that I cast out devils, then know that the kingdom of God has overtaken you. So long as a strong man fully armed guards his own palace, his goods are undisturbed; but when someone stronger than he is attacks and defeats him, the stronger man takes away all the weapons he relied on and shares out his spoil.

  ‘He who is not with me is against me; and he who does not gather with me scatters.

  ‘When an unclean spirit goes out of a man it wanders through waterless country looking for a place to rest, and not finding one it says, “I will go back to the home I came from.” But on arrival, finding it swept and tidied, it then goes off and brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and set up house there, so that the man ends up by being worse than he was before.’
