God is for us a refuge and strength,

  a helper close at hand, in time of distress,

so we shall not fear though the earth should rock,

  though the mountains fall into the depths of the sea.

Wherever the water flows, it will bring life and health

Ezekiel 47:1-2,8-9,12 

The angel brought me to the entrance of the Temple, where a stream came out from under the Temple threshold and flowed eastwards, since the Temple faced east. The water flowed from under the right side of the Temple, south of the altar. He took me out by the north gate and led me right round outside as far as the outer east gate where the water flowed out on the right-hand side. He said, ‘This water flows east down to the Arabah and to the sea; and flowing into the sea it makes its waters wholesome. Wherever the river flows, all living creatures teeming in it will live. Fish will be very plentiful, for wherever the water goes it brings health, and life teems wherever the river flows. Along the river, on either bank, will grow every kind of fruit tree with leaves that never wither and fruit that never fails; they will bear new fruit every month, because this water comes from the sanctuary. And their fruit will be good to eat and the leaves medicinal.’

ஆண்டவர் உரைத்தது: “உங்கள் பணியாளர் உழுதுவிட்டோ மந்தையை மேய்த்துவிட்டோ வயல்வெளியிலிருந்து வரும்போது அவரிடம், ‘நீர் உடனே வந்து உணவருந்த அமரும்’ என்று உங்களில் எவராவது சொல்வாரா? மாறாக, ‘எனக்கு உணவு ஏற்பாடு செய்யும்; உம் இடையை வரிந்துகட்டிக் கொண்டு, நான் உண்டு குடிக்கும்வரை எனக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்யும்; அதன்பிறகு நீர் உண்டு குடிக்கலாம்’ என்று சொல்வார் அல்லவா? தாம் பணித்ததைச் செய்ததற்காக அவர் தம் பணியாளருக்கு நன்றி கூறுவாரோ? அது போலவே, நீங்களும் உங்களுக்குப் பணிக்கப்பட்ட யாவற்றையும் செய்தபின், ‘நாங்கள் பயனற்ற பணியாளர்கள்; எங்கள் கடமையைத்தான் செய்தோம்’ எனச் சொல்லுங்கள்.”

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் தீத்துக்கு எழுதிய திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 2: 1-8, 11-14

அன்பிற்குரியவரே,

நீயோ நலந்தரும் போதனைக்கேற்பப் பேசு. வயது முதிர்ந்த ஆண்கள் அறிவுத் தெளிவு, கண்ணியம், கட்டுப்பாடு உடையவர்களாய் இருந்து நம்பிக்கை, அன்பு, மன உறுதி ஆகியவற்றை நன்கு காத்துக்கொள்ளச் சொல். அவ்வாறே வயது முதிர்ந்த பெண்களும் தூய நடத்தை உடையவர்களாய், புறங்கூறாதவர்களாய், குடிவெறிக்கு அடிமை ஆகாதவர்களாய், நற்போதனை அளிப்பவர்களாய் இருக்குமாறு கூறு. இவ்வாறு கற்றுக் கொடுப்பதால் இளம்பெண்கள் தங்கள் கணவரிடமும் பிள்ளைகளிடமும் அன்பு காட்டி, கட்டுப்பாடும் கற்பும் உள்ளவர்களாய் வீட்டு வேலைகளைச் செவ்வனே செய்பவர்களாய்த் தங்கள் கணவருக்குப் பணிந்திருப்பார்கள். அப்பொழுதுதான் கடவுளுடைய வார்த்தை பழிப்புக்குள்ளாகாது.

அவ்வாறே இளைஞரும் கட்டுப்பாடு உள்ளவராய் இருக்க அறிவுரை கூறு. நற்செயல்களைச் செய்வதில் எல்லா வகையிலும் நீயே முன்மாதிரியாய் இரு; நாணயத்தோடும் கண்ணியத்தோடும் கற்றுக்கொடு. யாரும் குற்றம் கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியாத நலந்தரும் வார்த்தைகளைப் பேசு. அப்பொழுது எதிரிகள் நம்மைப் பற்றித் தீயன பேச எதுவுமின்றி வெட்கிப் போவார்கள்.

ஏனெனில் மனிதர் அனைவருக்கும் மீட்பராம் கடவுளின் அருள் வெளிப்பட்டுள்ளது. நாம் இறைப்பற்றின்மையையும் உலகு சார்ந்த தீய நாட்டங்களையும் மறுத்துக் கட்டுப்பாட்டுடனும் நேர்மையுடனும் இறைப்பற்றுடனும் இம்மையில் வாழ இவ்வருளால் பயிற்சி பெறுகிறோம். மகிழ்ச்சியோடு எதிர்நோக்கியிருப்பது நிறைவேறும் எனக் காத்திருக்கிறோம். நம் பெருமைமிக்க கடவுளும் மீட்பருமாகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் மாட்சி வெளிப்படப்போகிறது. அவர் நம்மை எல்லா நெறிகேடுகளிலிருந்தும் மீட்டு, நற்செயல்களில் ஆர்வமுள்ள தமக்குரிய மக்களாகத் தூய்மைப்படுத்தத் தம்மையே ஒப்படைத்தார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 17:7-10 

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Which of you, with a servant ploughing or minding sheep, would say to him when he returned from the fields, “Come and have your meal immediately”? Would he not be more likely to say, “Get my supper laid; make yourself tidy and wait on me while I eat and drink. You can eat and drink yourself afterwards”? Must he be grateful to the servant for doing what he was told? So with you: when you have done all you have been told to do, say, “We are merely servants: we have done no more than our duty.”’
