Psalm 39(40):2,4,7-10

Here I am, Lord! I come to do your will.

I waited, I waited for the Lord

and he stooped down to me;

he heard my cry.

He put a new song into my mouth,

praise of our God.

Here I am, Lord! I come to do your will.

You do not ask for sacrifice and offerings,

but an open ear.

You do not ask for holocaust and victim.

Instead, here am I.

Here I am, Lord! I come to do your will.

In the scroll of the book it stands written

that I should do your will.

My God, I delight in your law

in the depth of my heart.

Here I am, Lord! I come to do your will.

Your justice I have proclaimed

in the great assembly.

My lips I have not sealed;

you know it, O Lord.

A Reading from the Book of Isaiah 49: 3,5-6

The Lord said to me, ‘You are my servant, Israel,

in whom I shall be glorified’;

I was honoured in the eyes of the Lord,

my God was my strength.

And now the Lord has spoken,

he who formed me in the womb to be his servant,

to bring Jacob back to him,

to gather Israel to him:

‘It is not enough for you to be my servant,

to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back the survivors of Israel;

I will make you the light of the nations

so that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.’

நேர்மையாளர்களை அல்ல, பாவிகளையே அழைக்க வந்தேன்.

இயேசு மீண்டும் கடலோரம் சென்றார். மக்கள் கூட்டத்தினர் எல்லாரும் அவரிடம் வரவே, அவர் அவர்களுக்குக் கற்பித்தார். பின்பு அங்கிருந்து அவர் சென்றபோது அல்பேயுவின் மகன் லேவி சுங்கச் சாவடியில் அமர்ந்திருந்ததைக் கண்டார்; அவரிடம், “என்னைப் பின்பற்றி வா” என்றார். அவரும் எழுந்து இயேசுவைப் பின்பற்றிச் சென்றார்.

பின்பு அவருடைய வீட்டில் பந்தி அமர்ந்திருந்தபோது வரிதண்டுபவர்கள், பாவிகள் ஆகிய பலர் இயேசுவோடும் அவருடைய சீடரோடும் விருந்துண்டனர். ஏனெனில் இவர்களுள் பலர் இயேசுவைப் பின்பற்றியவர்கள். அவர் பாவிகளோடும் வரிதண்டுபவர்களோடும் உண்பதைப் பரிசேயரைச் சார்ந்த மறைநூல் அறிஞர் கண்டு, அவருடைய சீடரிடம், “இவர் வரிதண்டுபவர்களோடும் பாவிகளோடும் சேர்ந்து உண்பதேன்?” என்று கேட்டனர்.

இயேசு, இதைக் கேட்டவுடன் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “நோயற்றவருக்கு அல்ல, நோயுற்றவருக்கே மருத்துவர் தேவை. நேர்மையாளர்களை அல்ல, பாவிகளையே அழைக்க வந்தேன்” என்றார்.

ஏழைகளுக்கு நற்செய்தியை அறிவிக்கவும் சிறைப்பட்டோர் விடுதலை அடைவர், பார்வையற்றோர் பார்வை பெறுவர் என முழக்கமிடவும் ஒடுக்கப்பட்டோரை விடுதலை செய்து அனுப்பவும் ஆண்டவர் என்னை அனுப்பியுள்ளார். அல்லேலூயா.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

கடவுளுடைய வார்த்தை உயிருள்ளது, ஆற்றல் வாய்ந்தது; இரு பக்கமும் வெட்டக்கூடிய எந்த வாளினும் கூர்மையானது; ஆன்மாவையும் ஆவியையும் பிரிக்கும் அளவுக்குக் குத்தி ஊடுருவுகிறது; எலும்பு மூட்டையும் மச்சையையும் அவ்வாறே ஊடுருவுகிறது; உள்ளத்தின் சிந்தனைகளையும் நோக்கங்களையும் சீர்தூக்கிப் பார்க்கிறது. படைப்பு எதுவும் கடவுளுடைய பார்வைக்கு மறைவாய் இல்லை. அவருடைய கண்களுக்கு முன் அனைத்தும் மறைவின்றி வெளிப்படையாய் இருக்கின்றன. நாம் அவருக்கே கணக்குக் கொடுக்க வேண்டும்.

எனவே, வானங்களைக் கடந்து சென்ற இறைமகனாகிய இயேசுவை நாம் தனிப்பெரும் தலைமைக் குருவாகக் கொண்டுள்ளதால், நாம் அறிக்கையிடுவதை விடாது பற்றிக்கொள்வோமாக! ஏனெனில், நம் தலைமைக் குரு நம்முடைய வலுவின்மையைக் கண்டு இரக்கம் காட்ட இயலாதவர் அல்ல; மாறாக, எல்லா வகையிலும் நம்மைப் போலச் சோதிக்கப்பட்டவர்; எனினும் பாவம் செய்யாதவர்.

எனவே, நாம் இரக்கத்தைப் பெறவும், ஏற்ற வேளையில் உதவக்கூடிய அருளைக் கண்டடையவும், அருள் நிறைந்த இறை அரியணையைத் துணிவுடன் அணுகிச் செல்வோமாக.

Your light must shine in the sight of men

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 2:13-17

Jesus went out to the shore of the lake; and all the people came to him, and he taught them. As he was walking on he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus, sitting by the customs house, and he said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And he got up and followed him.

When Jesus was at dinner in his house, a number of tax collectors and sinners were also sitting at the table with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many of them among his followers. When the scribes of the Pharisee party saw him eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, ‘Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ When Jesus heard this he said to them, ‘It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick. I did not come to call the virtuous, but sinners.’
