He appointed twelve to be his companions

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 3:13-19

Jesus went up into the hills and summoned those he wanted. So they came to him and he appointed twelve; they were to be his companions and to be sent out to preach, with power to cast out devils. And so he appointed the Twelve: Simon to whom he gave the name Peter, James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom he gave the name Boanerges or ‘Sons of Thunder’; then Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, the man who was to betray him.

The first covenant is already old

Hebrews 8: 6-13 

We have seen that Christ has been given a ministry of a far higher order, and to the same degree it is a better covenant of which he is the mediator, founded on better promises. If that first covenant had been without a fault, there would have been no need for a second one to replace it. And in fact God does find fault with them; he says:

See, the days are coming – it is the Lord who speaks –

when I will establish a new covenant

with the House of Israel and the House of Judah,

but not a covenant like the one I made with their ancestors

on the day I took them by the hand

to bring them out of the land of Egypt.

They abandoned that covenant of mine,

and so I on my side deserted them. It is the Lord who speaks.

No, this is the covenant I will make

with the House of Israel

when those days arrive – it is the Lord who speaks.

I will put my laws into their minds

and write them on their hearts.

Then I will be their God

and they shall be my people.

There will be no further need for neighbour to try to teach neighbour,

or brother to say to brother,

‘Learn to know the Lord.’

No, they will all know me,

the least no less than the greatest,

since I will forgive their iniquities

and never call their sins to mind.

By speaking of a new covenant, he implies that the first one is already old. Now anything old only gets more antiquated until in the end it disappears.

இயேசு தொழுகைக்கூடத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுத் தம் சீடருடன் கடலோரம் சென்றார். கலிலேயாவிலிருந்து பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தனர். மேலும் யூதேயா, எருசலேம், இதுமேயா, யோர்தான் அக்கரைப்பகுதி, தீர், சீதோன் ஆகிய இடங்களிலிருந்தும் பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் அவர் செய்தவற்றையெல்லாம் கேள்வியுற்று அவரிடம் வந்தனர். மக்கள் கூட்டம் தம்மை நெருக்கிவிடாதவாறு தமக்காகப் படகு ஒன்றை முன்னேற்பாடாக வைத்திருக்குமாறு அவர் சீடருக்குச் சொன்னார்.

ஏனெனில், பலரை அவர் குணமாக்கியதால், நோயுற்றோர் அனைவரும் அவரைத் தொட வேண்டுமென்று வந்து அவர்மீது விழுந்து கொண்டிருந் தனர். தீய ஆவிகளும் அவரைக் கண்டபோதே அவர்முன் விழுந்து, “இறைமகன் நீரே” என்று கத்தின. அவரோ, தம்மை வெளிப்படுத்த வேண்டாமென அவற்றிடம் மிகக் கண்டிப்பாய்ச் சொன்னார்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

இயேசு தம் வழியாகக் கடவுளிடம் வருபவரை அவர் முற்றும் மீட்க வல்லவராயிருக்கிறார்; அவர்களுக்காகப் பரிந்துபேசுவதற்கென என்றுமே உயிர் வாழ்கிறார்.

இத்தகைய தலைமைக் குருவே நமக்கு ஏற்றவராகிறார். இவர் தூயவர், கபடற்றவர், மாசற்றவர், பாவிகளிடமிருந்து பிரித்தெடுக்கப்பட்டு, வானங்களுக்கு மேலாக உயர்த்தப்பட்டவர். ஏனைய தலைமைக் குருக்கள் செய்வதுபோல, முதலில் தம்முடைய பாவங்களுக்காகவும், பின்னர் மக்களுடைய பாவங்களுக்காகவும் இவர் நாள்தோறும் பலி செலுத்தத் தேவையில்லை. ஏனெனில் தம்மைத்தாமே பலியாகச் செலுத்தி இதை ஒரே ஒரு முறைக்குள் செய்து முடித்தார். திருச்சட்டப்படி வலுவற்ற மனிதர்கள் குருக்களாக ஏற்படுத்தப்படுகிறார்கள். ஆனால் அத்திருச்சட்டத்திற்குப் பின்னர், ஆணையிட்டுக் கூறப்பட்ட வாக்கின் மூலம் என்றென்றும் நிறைவுள்ளவரான மகனே குருவாக ஏற்படுத்தப்படுகிறார்.

இத்தகைய தலைமைக் குரு நமக்கு வாய்த்துள்ளார் என்பதே இதுகாறும் நாம் கூறியவற்றின் தலையாய கருத்து. இவர் விண்ணகத்தில் பெருமைமிகு கடவுளுடைய அரியணையின் வலப்பக்கத்தில் வீற்றிருக்கிறார். அங்கே மனிதரால் அல்ல, ஆண்டவராலே அமைக்கப்பட்ட உண்மையான கூடாரமாகிய தூயகத்தில் ஊழியம் செய்கிறார்.

ஒவ்வொரு தலைமைக் குருவும் காணிக்கைகளையும் பலிகளையும் செலுத்தவே ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டிருக்கிறார். எனவே பலி செலுத்துவதற்கு இவரிடமும் ஏதேனும் ஒரு பொருள் கட்டாயம் இருக்க வேண்டும். உலகிலேயே இருந்திருப்பாரென்றால் இவர் குருவாக இருந்திருக்கமாட்டார். ஏனெனில், திருச்சட்டத்தின்படி காணிக்கைகளைச் செலுத்த ஏற்கெனவே இங்குக் குருமார்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள். இவர்கள் வழிபடும் இடம் விண்ணகக் கூடாரத்தின் சாயலும் நிழலுமே. மோசே கூடாரத்தை அமைத்தபோது, “மலையில் உனக்குக் காண்பிக்கப்பட்ட முறைப்படி நீ இவற்றையெல்லாம் செய்யுமாறு கவனித்துக்கொள்” என்று கடவுள் பணித்தது இதைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டுகிறது. ஆனால், இவரோ அவர்களுடைய குருத்துவப் பணியைவிட மிக மேன்மையான குருத்துவப் பணியைப் பெற்றிருக்கிறார்.

ஏனெனில் சீரிய வாக்குறுதிகளின் அடிப்படையில் செய்யப்பட்டு, இவரை இணைப்பாளராகக் கொண்டிருக்கும் உடன்படிக்கை முந்திய உடன்படிக்கையை விடச் சிறப்பு மிக்கது.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 3:7-12 

Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lakeside, and great crowds from Galilee followed him. From Judaea, Jerusalem, Idumaea, Transjordania and the region of Tyre and Sidon, great numbers who had heard of all he was doing came to him. And he asked his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, to keep him from being crushed. For he had cured so many that all who were afflicted in any way were crowding forward to touch him. And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, would fall down before him and shout, ‘You are the Son of God!’ But he warned them strongly not to make him known.
