Abraham looked forward to a city founded, designed and built by God

Hebrews 11:1-2, 8-19

Only faith can guarantee the blessings that we hope for, or prove the existence of the realities that at present remain unseen. It was for faith that our ancestors were commended.

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed the call to set out for a country that was the inheritance given to him and his descendants, and that he set out without knowing where he was going. By faith he arrived, as a foreigner, in the Promised Land, and lived there as if in a strange country, with Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. They lived there in tents while he looked forward to a city founded, designed and built by God.

It was equally by faith that Sarah, in spite of being past the age, was made able to conceive, because she believed that he who had made the promise would be faithful to it. Because of this, there came from one man, and one who was already as good as dead himself, more descendants than could be counted, as many as the stars of heaven or the grains of sand on the seashore.

All these died in faith, before receiving any of the things that had been promised, but they saw them in the far distance and welcomed them, recognising that they were only strangers and nomads on earth. People who use such terms about themselves make it quite plain that they are in search of their real homeland. They can hardly have meant the country they came from, since they had the opportunity to go back to it; but in fact they were longing for a better homeland, their heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, since he has founded the city for them.

It was by faith that Abraham, when put to the test, offered up Isaac. He offered to sacrifice his only son even though the promises had been made to him and he had been told: It is through Isaac that your name will be carried on. He was confident that God had the power even to raise the dead; and so, figuratively speaking, he was given back Isaac from the dead.

சனவரி 27 : நற்செய்தி வாசகம்

நிலத்தில் ஒருவர் விதைக்கிறார். அவருக்குத் தெரியாமல் விதை முளைத்து வளர்கிறது.

✠ மாற்கு எழுதிய தூய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 4: 26-34

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு கூட்டத்தை நோக்கி, “இறையாட்சியைப் பின்வரும் நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு ஒப்பிடலாம்: நிலத்தில் ஒருவர் விதைக்கிறார். அவர் எதுவும் செய்யாமலே நாள்கள் நகர்ந்து செல்கின்றன. அவருக்குத் தெரியாமல் விதை முளைத்து வளர்கிறது. முதலில் தளிர், பின்பு கதிர், அதன்பின் கதிர் நிறைய தானியம் என்று நிலம் தானாகவே விளைச்சல் அளிக்கிறது. பயிர் விளைந்ததும் அவர் அரிவாளோடு புறப்படுகிறார்; ஏனெனில் அறுவடைக் காலம் வந்துவிட்டது” என்று கூறினார்.

மேலும் அவர், “இறையாட்சியை எதற்கு ஒப்பிடலாம்? அல்லது எந்த உவமையால் அதை எடுத்துச் சொல்லலாம்? அது கடுகு விதைக்கு ஒப்பாகும். அது நிலத்தில் விதைக்கப்படும்பொழுது உலகிலுள்ள எல்லா விதைகளையும் விடச் சிறியது. அது விதைக்கப்பட்டபின் முளைத்தெழுந்து எல்லாச் செடிகளையும்விடப் பெரிதாகி, வானத்துப் பறவைகள் அதன் நிழலில் தங்கக்கூடிய அளவுக்குப் பெருங்கிளைகள் விடும்” என்று கூறினார்.

அவர்களது கேட்டறியும் திறமைக்கு ஏற்ப, அவர் இத்தகைய பல உவமைகளால் இறைவார்த்தையை அவர்களுக்கு எடுத்துரைத்து வந்தார். உவமைகள் இன்றி அவர் அவர்களோடு பேசவில்லை. ஆனால் தனிமையாக இருந்தபோது தம் சீடருக்கு அனைத்தையும் விளக்கிச் சொன்னார்.

ஆண்டவரை நம்பு; நலமானதைச் செய்; நாட்டிலேயே குடியிரு; நம்பத் தக்கவராய் வாழ்.

ஆண்டவரிலேயே மகிழ்ச்சி கொள்; உன் உள்ளத்து விருப்பங்களை அவர் நிறைவேற்றுவார். - பல்லவி

உன் வழியை ஆண்டவரிடம் ஒப்படைத்துவிடு; அவரையே நம்பியிரு; அவரே உன் சார்பில் செயலாற்றுவார்.

உன் நேர்மையைக் கதிரொளி போலும், உன் நாணயத்தை நண்பகல் போலும் அவர் விளங்கச் செய்வார். - பல்லவி

தாம் உவகைகொள்ளும் நடத்தையைக் கொண்ட மனிதரின் காலடிகளை ஆண்டவர் உறுதிப்படுத்துகின்றார்.

அவர்கள் விழுந்தாலும் வீழ்ந்துகிடக்க மாட்டார்கள்; ஆண்டவர் அவர்களைத் தம் கையால் தூக்கி நிறுத்துவார். - பல்லவி

நேர்மையாளருக்கு மீட்பு ஆண்டவரிடமிருந்து வருகின்றது, நெருக்கடியான நேரத்தில் அவர்களுக்கு வலிமையும் அவரே.

ஆண்டவர் துணைநின்று அவர்களை விடுவிக்கின்றார்; பொல்லாரிடமிருந்து அவர்களை விடுவிக்கின்றார்; அவரிடம் அடைக்கலம் புகுந்ததால், அவர்களை மீட்கின்றார். - பல்லவி

"தந்தையே, விண்ணுக்கும் மண்ணுக்கும் ஆண்டவரே, உம்மைப் போற்றுகிறேன். ஏனெனில் ஞானிகளுக்கும் அறிஞர்களுக்கும் இவற்றை மறைத்துக் குழந்தைகளுக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தினீர்.” அல்லேலூயா.

The kingdom of God is a mustard seed growing into the biggest shrub of all

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 4:26-34

Jesus said to the crowds: ‘This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man throws seed on the land. Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he does not know. Of its own accord the land produces first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the crop is ready, he loses no time: he starts to reap because the harvest has come.’

He also said, ‘What can we say the kingdom of God is like? What parable can we find for it? It is like a mustard seed which at the time of its sowing in the soil is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them all and puts out big branches so that the birds of the air can shelter in its shade.’

Using many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, so far as they were capable of understanding it. He would not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything to his disciples when they were alone.

பெரிய போராட்டத்தையே மன உறுதியோடு ஏற்றுக்கொண்டீர்கள்; எனவே எதிர்நோக்கை இழந்துவிடாதீர்!

எபிரேயருக்கு எழுதப்பட்ட திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 10: 32-39

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

முன்னைய நாள்களை நினைவுகூருங்கள். நீங்கள் ஒளி பெற்றபின் உங்களுக்கு நேரிட்ட துன்பம் நிறைந்த போராட்டத்தை மன உறுதியோடு ஏற்றுக்கொண்டீர்கள். சில வேளைகளில், நீங்கள் இகழ்ச்சிக்கும் வேதனைகளுக்கும் ஆளாகி, வேடிக்கைப் பொருளானீர்கள். வேறு சில வேளைகளில், இந்நிலைக்கு ஆளானோரின் துன்பங்களில் பங்கு பெற்றீர்கள். கைதிகளுக்குப் பரிவிரக்கம் காட்டினீர்கள். உங்கள் உடைமைகள் பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்டபோதும், மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டீர்கள். ஏனெனில் சிறந்த, நிலையான உடைமைகள் உங்களுக்கு உள்ளன என்பதை அறிவீர்கள்.

உங்களிடம் இருக்கும் துணிவைக் கைவிட்டு விடாதீர்கள். இதற்கு மிகுந்த கைம்மாறு உண்டு. கடவுளின் திருவுளத்தை நிறைவேற்றி, அவர் வாக்களித்ததை நீங்கள் பெற்றுக்கொள்ள உங்களுக்கு மன உறுதி தேவை. இன்னும், “மிக மிகக் குறுகிய காலமே இருக்கிறது; வர இருக்கிறவர் வந்துவிடுவார், காலம் தாழ்த்தமாட்டார். நேர்மையுடன் நடக்கும் என் அடியார், நம்பிக்கையினால் வாழ்வு அடைவார். எவராவது பின்வாங்கிச் செல்வார் என்றால் அவரில் நான் மகிழ்ச்சியுறேன்.”

நாமோ பின்வாங்கிச் சென்று அழிவுறுவோர் அல்ல. மாறாக, நம்பிக்கையையும் வாழ்வையும் காத்துக்கொள்வோர் ஆவோம்.
