Since you have rejected the word of God, we must turn to the pagans

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles 13:44-52 

The next sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God. When they saw the crowds, the Jews, prompted by jealousy, used blasphemies and contradicted everything Paul said. Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly. ‘We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, but since you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, we must turn to the pagans. For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said:

I have made you a light for the nations,

so that my salvation may reach the ends of the earth.’

It made the pagans very happy to hear this and they thanked the Lord for his message; all who were destined for eternal life became believers. Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside.

  But the Jews worked upon some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of the city and persuaded them to turn against Paul and Barnabas and expel them from their territory. So they shook the dust from their feet in defiance and went off to Iconium; but the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.

The Word of the Lord.

இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “நீங்கள் உள்ளம் கலங்க வேண்டாம். கடவுளிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளுங்கள். என்னிடமும் நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளுங்கள். என் தந்தை வாழும் இடத்தில் உறைவிடங்கள் பல உள்ளன. அப்படி இல்லையெனில், ‘உங்களுக்கு இடம் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப் போகிறேன்’ என்று சொல்லியிருப்பேனா? நான் போய் உங்களுக்கு இடம் ஏற்பாடு செய்தபின் திரும்பிவந்து உங்களை என்னிடம் அழைத்துக் கொள்வேன். அப்போது நான் இருக்கும் இடத்திலேயே நீங்களும் இருப்பீர்கள். நான் போகுமிடத்துக்கு வழி உங்களுக்குத் தெரியும்.”

தோமா அவரிடம், “ஆண்டவரே, நீர் எங்கே போகிறீர் என்றே எங்களுக்குத் தெரியாது. அப்படியிருக்க நீர் போகுமிடத்துக்கான வழியை நாங்கள் எப்படித் தெரிந்துகொள்ள இயலும்?” என்றார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “வழியும் உண்மையும் வாழ்வும் நானே. என் வழியாய் அன்றி எவரும் தந்தையிடம் வருவதில்லை” என்றார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

பவுல் பிசிதியாவிலுள்ள அந்தியோக்கியாவுக்கு வந்தபோது, அவர் தொழுகைக்கூடத்தில் கூறியது: “சகோதரரே, ஆபிரகாமின் வழிவந்த மக்களே, இங்கு இருப்போருள் கடவுளுக்கு அஞ்சி நடப்போரே, இந்த மீட்புச் செய்தி நமக்குத்தான் அனுப்பப்பட்டுள்ளது. எருசலேமில் குடியிருக்கும் மக்களும் அவர்களுடைய தலைவர்களும் அம்மீட்பரை அறியவில்லை; ஓய்வுநாள்தோறும் வாசிக்கப்படும் இறைவாக்கினரின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டும் அவற்றைப் புரிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை; ஆயினும் அவருக்கு அவர்கள் தீர்ப்பளித்தபோது அவ்வார்த்தைகள் நிறைவேறின. சாவுக்குரிய காரணம் எதுவும் அவரிடம் இல்லாதிருந்தும், அவரைக் கொல்ல அவர்கள் பிலாத்திடம் கேட்டார்கள். மறைநூலில் அவரைப்பற்றி எழுதியுள்ள அனைத்தையும் அவர்கள் செய்து முடித்தார்கள். பின்பு அவரைச் சிலுவையிலிருந்து இறக்கிக் கல்லறையில் வைத்தார்கள்.

ஆனால் இறந்த அவரைக் கடவுள் உயிரோடு எழுப்பினார். அவர் கலிலேயாவிலிருந்து தம்முடன் எருசலேம் வந்தவர்களுக்குப் பல நாள்கள் தோன்றினார். அவர்கள் இப்போது அவர்தம் சாட்சிகளாக மக்கள் முன் விளங்குகின்றார்கள். இயேசுவைக் கடவுள் உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்ததன் வழியாக மூதாதையருக்கு அளித்த வாக்குறுதியை அவர்கள் பிள்ளை களாகிய நமக்கென நிறைவேற்றினார். இதுவே நாங்கள் உங்களுக்கு அறிவிக்கும் நற்செய்தி. இதுபற்றி இரண்டாம் திருப்பாடலில்,

‘நீரே என் மகன், இன்று நான் உம்மை ஈன்றெடுத்தேன்’ என்று எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது.”

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 14:1-6 

Jesus said to his disciples:

‘Do not let your hearts be troubled.

Trust in God still, and trust in me.

There are many rooms in my Father’s house;

if there were not, I should have told you.

I am going now to prepare a place for you,

and after I have gone and prepared you a place,

I shall return to take you with me;

so that where I am

you may be too.

You know the way to the place where I am going.’

Thomas said, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’ Jesus said:

‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.

No one can come to the Father except through me.’

God has fulfilled his promise by raising Jesus from the dead

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles 13: 26-33

Paul stood up in the synagogue at Antioch in Pisidia, held up a hand for silence and began to speak:

  ‘My brothers, sons of Abraham’s race, and all you who fear God, this message of salvation is meant for you. What the people of Jerusalem and their rulers did, though they did not realise it, was in fact to fulfil the prophecies read on every sabbath. Though they found nothing to justify his death, they condemned him and asked Pilate to have him executed. When they had carried out everything that scripture foretells about him they took him down from the tree and buried him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead, and for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem: and it is these same companions of his who are now his witnesses before our people.

  ‘We have come here to tell you the Good News. It was to our ancestors that God made the promise but it is to us, their children, that he has fulfilled it, by raising Jesus from the dead. As scripture says in the second psalm: You are my son: today I have become your father.’
