O praise the Lord, Jerusalem!

Zion, praise your God!

He has strengthened the bars of your gates

he has blessed the children within you.

He established peace on your borders,

he feeds you with finest wheat.

He sends out his word to the earth

and swiftly runs his command.

He makes his word known to Jacob,

to Israel his laws and decrees.

He has not dealt thus with other nations;

he has not taught them his decrees.

There are three witnesses: the Spirit and the water and the blood

1 John 5:5-13

Who can overcome the world?

Only the man who believes that Jesus is the Son of God:

Jesus Christ who came by water and blood,

not with water only,

but with water and blood;

with the Spirit as another witness –

since the Spirit is the truth –

so that there are three witnesses,

the Spirit, the water and the blood,

and all three of them agree.

We accept the testimony of human witnesses,

but God’s testimony is much greater,

and this is God’s testimony,

given as evidence for his Son.

Everybody who believes in the Son of God

has this testimony inside him;

and anyone who will not believe God

is making God out to be a liar,

because he has not trusted

the testimony God has given about his Son.

This is the testimony:

God has given us eternal life

and this life is in his Son;

anyone who has the Son has life,

anyone who does not have the Son does not have life.

I have written all this to you

so that you who believe in the name of the Son of God

may be sure that you have eternal life.

நீர் இறைமகன்; நீரே இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் அரசர்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு கலிலேயாவுக்குச் செல்ல விரும்பினார். அப்போது அவர் பிலிப்பைக் கண்டு, “என்னைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து வா” எனக் கூறினார். பிலிப்பு பெத்சாய்தா என்னும் ஊரைச் சேர்ந்தவர். அந்திரேயா, பேதுரு ஆகியோரும் இவ்வூரையே சேர்ந்தவர்கள்.

பிலிப்பு நத்தனியேலைப் போய்ப் பார்த்து, “இறைவாக்கினர்களும் திருச்சட்ட நூலில் மோசேயும் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளவரை நாங்கள் கண்டுகொண்டோம். நாசரேத்தைச் சேர்ந்த யோசேப்பின் மகன் இயேசுவே அவர்” என்றார். அதற்கு நத்தனியேல், “நாசரேத்திலிருந்து நல்லது எதுவும் வர முடியுமோ?” என்று கேட்டார். பிலிப்பு அவரிடம், “வந்து பாரும்!” என்று கூறினார்.

நத்தனியேல் தம்மிடம் வருவதை இயேசு கண்டு, “இவர் உண்மையான இஸ்ரயேலர், கபடற்றவர்” என்று அவரைக் குறித்து கூறினார். நத்தனியேல், “என்னை உமக்கு எப்படித் தெரியும்?” என்று அவரிடம் கேட்டார். இயேசு, “பிலிப்பு உம்மைக் கூப்பிடுவதற்கு முன்பு நீர் அத்திமரத்தின்கீழ் இருந்த போதே நான் உம்மைக் கண்டேன்” என்று பதிலளித்தார். நத்தனியேல் அவரைப் பார்த்து, “ரபி, நீர் இறைமகன்; நீரே இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் அரசர்” என்றார்.

அதற்கு இயேசு, “உம்மை அத்திமரத்தின்கீழ் கண்டேன் என்று உம்மிடம் சொன்னதாலா நம்புகிறீர்? இதைவிடப் பெரியவற்றைக் காண்பீர்” என்றார். மேலும் “வானம் திறந்திருப்பதையும் கடவுளின் தூதர்கள் மானிடமகன்மீது ஏறுவதையும் இறங்குவதையும் காண்பீர்கள் என மிக உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்று அவரிடம் கூறினார்.

நாம் சகோதர அன்பு கொண்டுள்ளதால், சாவிலிருந்து வாழ்வுக்குக் கடந்து வந்துள்ளோம்.

திருத்தூதர் யோவான் எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 3: 11-21

அன்பிற்குரியவர்களே,

நீங்கள் தொடக்கத்திலிருந்து கேட்டறிந்த செய்தி இதுவே; நாம் ஒருவர் மற்றவரிடம் அன்பு செலுத்த வேண்டும்.

காயினைப்போல் நீங்கள் இராதீர்கள்; அவன் தீயோனைச் சார்ந்தவன்; ஏனெனில் தன் சகோதரரைக் கொலை செய்தான். எதற்காக அவரைக் கொலை செய்தான்? ஏனெனில் அவன் செயல்கள் தீயனவாக இருந்தன. அவன் சகோதரருடைய செயல்கள் நேர்மையானவையாக இருந்தன.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, உலகம் உங்களை வெறுக்கிறதென்றால் நீங்கள் வியப்படைய வேண்டாம். நாம் சகோதர அன்பு கொண்டுள்ளதால், சாவிலிருந்து வாழ்வுக்குக் கடந்து வந்துள்ளோமென அறிந்துள்ளோம்; அன்பு கொண்டிராதோர் சாவிலேயே நிலைத்திருக்கின்றனர். தம் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளை வெறுப்போர் அனைவரும் கொலையாளிகள். எந்தக் கொலையாளியிடமும் நிலைவாழ்வு இராது என்பது உங்களுக்குத் தெரியுமே. கிறிஸ்து நமக்காகத் தம் உயிரைக் கொடுத்தார். இதனால் அன்பு இன்னதென்று அறிந்துகொண்டோம். ஆகவே நாமும் நம் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளுக்காக உயிரைக் கொடுக்கக் கடமைப்பட்டிருக்கிறோம். உலகச் செல்வத்தைப் பெற்றிருப்போர் தம் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகள் தேவையில் உழல்வதைக் கண்டும் பரிவு காட்டவில்லை என்றால் அவர்களிடம் கடவுளின் அன்பு எப்படி நிலைத்திருக்கும்? பிள்ளைகளே, நாம் சொல்லிலும் பேச்சிலும் அல்ல, செயலில் உண்மையான அன்பை விளங்கச் செய்வோம்.

இதனால் நாம் உண்மையைச் சார்ந்தவர்கள் என அறிந்துகொள்வோம்; நம் மனச்சான்று நாம் குற்றவாளிகள் எனத் தீர்ப்பளித்தாலும், கடவுள் திருமுன் நம் உள்ளத்தை அமைதிப்படுத்த முடியும். ஏனெனில் கடவுள் நம் மனச்சான்றைவிட மேலானவர்; அனைத்தையும் அறிபவர். அன்பார்ந்தவர்களே, நம் மனச்சான்று நாம் குற்றவாளிகள் எனத் தீர்ப்பளிக்காதிருந்தால் நாம் கடவுள் திருமுன் உறுதியான நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருக்க முடியும்.

You will see heaven laid open, and the Son of Man

After Jesus had decided to leave for Galilee, he met Philip and said, ‘Follow me.’ Philip came from the same town, Bethsaida, as Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, ‘We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, the one about whom the prophets wrote: he is Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth.’ ‘From Nazareth?’ said Nathanael ‘Can anything good come from that place?’ ‘Come and see’ replied Philip. When Jesus saw Nathanael coming he said of him, ‘There is an Israelite who deserves the name, incapable of deceit.’ ‘How do you know me?’ said Nathanael. ‘Before Philip came to call you,’ said Jesus ‘I saw you under the fig tree.’ Nathanael answered, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel.’ Jesus replied, ‘You believe that just because I said: I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.’ And then he added ‘I tell you most solemnly, you will see heaven laid open and, above the Son of Man, the angels of God ascending and descending.’
