In Christ you are no longer aliens, but citizens like us

A reading from the letter of St.Paul to the Ephesians 2: 19-22 

You are no longer aliens or foreign visitors: you are citizens like all the saints, and part of God’s household. You are part of a building that has the apostles and prophets for its foundations, and Christ Jesus himself for its main cornerstone. As every structure is aligned on him, all grow into one holy temple in the Lord; and you too, in him, are being built into a house where God lives, in the Spirit.

All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. 

A Reading from the Book of Isaiah 52 : 7-10

How beautiful on the mountains, are the feet of the messenger announcing peace, of the messenger of good news, who proclaims salvation and says to Zion, 'Your God is king!' The voices of your watchmen! Now they raise their voices, shouting for joy together, for with their own eyes they have seen Yahweh returning to Zion.

Break into shouts together, shouts of joy, you ruins of Jerusalem; for Yahweh has consoled his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem.

Yahweh has bared his holy arm for all the nations to see, and all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு படகில் ஏறவே, அவருடைய சீடர்களும் அவரோடு ஏறினார்கள். திடீரெனக் கடலில் பெருங் கொந்தளிப்பு ஏற்பட்டது. படகுக்குமேல் அலைகள் எழுந்தன. ஆனால் இயேசு தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். சீடர்கள் அவரிடம் வந்து, “ஆண்டவரே, காப்பாற்றும், சாகப் போகிறோம்” என்று சொல்லி அவரை எழுப்பினார்கள்.

இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “நம்பிக்கை குன்றியவர்களே, ஏன் அஞ்சுகிறீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்டு, எழுந்து காற்றையும் கடலையும் கடிந்து கொண்டார். உடனே மிகுந்த அமைதி உண்டாயிற்று.

மக்கள் எல்லாரும், “காற்றும் கடலும் இவருக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிகின்றனவே! இவர் எத்தகையவரோ?” என்று வியந்தனர்.

இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களே! கேளுங்கள்; உங்களுக்கு எதிராக - ஆம், எகிப்து நாட்டினின்று நான் அழைத்து வந்த முழுக் குடும்பமாகிய உங்களுக்கு எதிராக - ஆண்டவர் உரைக்கும் இந்த வாக்கைக் கேளுங்கள்: “உலகத்திலுள்ள எல்லா மக்களினங்களுக்குள்ளும் உங்களைத்தான் நான் சிறப்பாக அறிந்து கொண்டேன்; ஆதலால், உங்கள் தீச்செயல் அனைத்திற்காகவும் நான் உங்களைத் தண்டிப்பேன்.

தங்களுக்குள் உடன்பாடு இல்லாமல் இருவர் சேர்ந்து நடப்பார்களோ? இரை அகப்படாமல் இருக்கும்போது காட்டில் சிங்கம் கர்ச்சிக்குமோ? ஒன்றையும் பிடிக்காமல் இருக்கையிலேயே குகையிலிருந்து இளஞ்சிங்கம் முழக்கம் செய்யுமோ? வேடன் தரையில் வலைவிரிக்காதிருக்கும்போதே பறவை கண்ணியில் சிக்கிக் கொள்வதுண்டோ? ஒன்றுமே சிக்காதிருக்கும் போது பொறி தரையைவிட்டுத் துள்ளுவதுண்டோ? நகரில் எக்காளம் ஊதப்படுமானால், மக்கள் அஞ்சி நடுங்காமல் இருப்பார்களோ?ஆண்டவர் அனுப்பவில்லையெனில், நகருக்குத் தீமை தானாக வந்திடுமோ? தம் ஊழியர்களாகிய இறைவாக்கினர்களுக்குத் தம் மறைபொருளை வெளிப்படுத்தாமல், தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர் ஏதும் செய்வதில்லை. சிங்கம் கர்ச்சனை செய்கின்றது; அஞ்சி நடுங்காதவர் எவர்? தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர் பேசியிருக்க, இறைவாக்கு உரைக்காதவர் எவர்?

சோதோம், கொமோராவின் மக்களைக் கடவுள் அழித்தது போல உங்களுள் சிலரை அழித்தேன். நீங்களோ, நெருப்பிலிருந்து இழுக்கப்பட்ட கொள்ளிக் கட்டைபோல் ஆனீர்கள்; ஆயினும் நீங்கள் என் பக்கம் திரும்பவில்லை” என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர். “ஆகையால், இஸ்ரயேலே! உனக்கும் இவ்வாறே செய்வேன். இஸ்ரயேலே! இப்படி நான் செய்யப் போவதால் உன் கடவுளைச் சந்திக்கத் தயாராயிரு!”

Jesus rebuked the winds and the seas, and all was calm

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 8: 23-27 

Jesus got into the boat followed by his disciples. Without warning a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the waves were breaking right over the boat. But he was asleep. So they went to him and woke him saying, ‘Save us, Lord, we are going down!’ And he said to them, ‘Why are you so frightened, you men of little faith?’ And with that he stood up and rebuked the winds and the sea; and all was calm again. The men were astounded and said, ‘Whatever kind of man is this? Even the winds and the sea obey him.’
