Those who prove victorious I will allow to share my throne.

Lord, who shall dwell on your holy mountain?

He who walks without fault;

he who acts with justice

and speaks the truth from his heart;

he who does not slander with his tongue.

Those who prove victorious I will allow to share my throne.

He who does no wrong to his brother,

who casts no slur on his neighbour,

who holds the godless in disdain,

but honours those who fear the Lord.

If one of you hears me calling, I will come in to share his meal

A reading from the book of the Apocalypse 3:1-6,14-22 

I, John, heard the Lord saying to me: ‘Write to the angel of the church in Sardis and say, “Here is the message of the one who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars: I know all about you: how you are reputed to be alive and yet are dead. Wake up; revive what little you have left: it is dying fast. So far I have failed to notice anything in the way you live that my God could possibly call perfect, and yet do you remember how eager you were when you first heard the message? Hold on to that. Repent. If you do not wake up, I shall come to you like a thief, without telling you at what hour to expect me. There are a few in Sardis, it is true, who have kept their robes from being dirtied, and they are fit to come with me, dressed in white. Those who prove victorious will be dressed, like these, in white robes; I shall not blot their names out of the book of life, but acknowledge their names in the presence of my Father and his angels. If anyone has ears to hear, let him listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.”

  ‘Write to the angel of the church in Laodicea and say, “Here is the message of the Amen, the faithful, the true witness, the ultimate source of God’s creation: I know all about you: how you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were one or the other, but since you are neither, but only lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth. You say to yourself, ‘I am rich, I have made a fortune, and have everything I want’, never realising that you are wretchedly and pitiably poor, and blind and naked too. I warn you, buy from me the gold that has been tested in the fire to make you really rich, and white robes to clothe you and cover your shameful nakedness, and eye ointment to put on your eyes so that you are able to see. I am the one who reproves and disciplines all those he loves: so repent in real earnest. Look, I am standing at the door, knocking. If one of you hears me calling and opens the door, I will come in to share his meal, side by side with him. Those who prove victorious I will allow to share my throne, just as I was victorious myself and took my place with my Father on his throne. If anyone has ears to hear, let him listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.”’

இயேசு ஐயாயிரம் பேருக்கு உணவளித்த பிறகு, கூட்டத்தினரை அவ்விடத்திலிருந்து அனுப்பிக்கொண்டிருந்தார். அப்பொழுது சீடரையும் உடனே படகேறித் தமக்கு முன் அக்கரைக்குச் செல்லுமாறு அவர் கட்டாயப்படுத்தினார்.

மக்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டு, அவர் தனியே இறைவனிடம் வேண்டுவதற்காக ஒரு மலையின் மேல் ஏறினார். பொழுது சாய்ந்த பிறகும் அங்கே அவர் தனியே இருந்தார். அதற்குள் படகு கரையிலிருந்து நெடுந்தொலை சென்றுவிட்டது. மேலும் எதிர்க்காற்று அடித்துக் கொண்டிருந்ததால் அலைகளால் படகு அலைக்கழிக்கப்பட்டது.

இரவின் நான்காம் காவல் வேளையில் இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கிக் கடல்மீது நடந்து வந்தார். அவர் கடல்மீது நடப்பதைக் கண்ட சீடர் கலங்கி, ``ஐயோ, பேய்'' என அச்சத்தினால் அலறினர். உடனே இயேசு அவர்களிடம் பேசினார். ``துணிவோடு இருங்கள்; நான்தான், அஞ்சாதீர்கள்'' என்றார்.

பேதுரு அவருக்கு மறுமொழியாக, ``ஆண்டவரே நீர்தாம் என்றால் நானும் கடல்மீது நடந்து உம்மிடம் வர ஆணையிடும்'' என்றார்.

அவர், ``வா'' என்றார். பேதுருவும் படகிலிருந்து இறங்கி இயேசுவை நோக்கிக் கடல்மீது நடந்து சென்றார். அப்பொழுது பெருங்காற்று வீசியதைக் கண்டு அஞ்சி அவர் மூழ்கும் போது, ``ஆண்டவரே, என்னைக் காப்பாற்றும்'' என்று கத்தினார்.

இயேசு உடனே தம் கையை நீட்டி அவரைப் பிடித்து, ``நம்பிக்கை குன்றியவனே, ஏன் ஐயம் கொண்டாய்?'' என்றார். அவர்கள் படகில் ஏறியதும் காற்று அடங்கியது. படகில் இருந்தோர் இயேசுவைப் பணிந்து, ``உண்மையாகவே நீர் இறைமகன்'' என்றனர்.

நாங்கள் உரோமை போய்ச் சேர்ந்தோம்.

திருத்தூதர் பணிகள் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 28: 11-16, 30-31

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, மூன்று மாதங்களுக்குப் பிறகு, குளிர்காலத்தில் மால்தா தீவில் ஒதுங்கியிருந்த ஒரு சிறிய கப்பலில் ஏறினோம். அதில் மிதுனச் சின்னம் பொறிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. அது அலக்சாந்திரியாவைச் சார்ந்தது. நாங்கள் சிரக்கூசாத் துறைமுகத்தை அடைந்து அங்கு மூன்று நாள் தங்கியிருந்தோம். அங்கிருந்து கரையோரமாகச் சுற்றி வந்து இரேகியு என்னும் இடத்தை அடைந்தோம்.

ஒரு நாள் அங்கு தங்கிய பின் தெற்கிலிருந்து காற்று வீசவே இரண்டாம் நாள் புத்தயோலி என்னும் இடம் சென்றோம். அங்கு நாங்கள் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளைக் கண்டோம். நாங்கள் அவர்களோடு ஏழு நாள் தங்குமாறு அவர்கள் எங்களைக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்கள். அதன்பின் நாங்கள் உரோமை போய்ச் சேர்ந்தோம்.

அங்குள்ள சகோதரர் சகோதரிகள் எங்களைப் பற்றிக் கேள்வியுற்று, `அப்பியு சந்தை', `மூன்று விடுதி' என்னும் இடங்கள் வரை எங்களை எதிர்கொண்டு வந்தார்கள். பவுல் அவர்களைக் கண்டபோது துணிவு கொண்டு கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தினார்.

நாங்கள் உரோமைக்கு வந்தபோது பவுல் தனி வீட்டில் தங்கியிருக்க அனுமதி பெற்றுக்கொண்டார். ஆனால் படைவீரர் ஒருவர் அவரைக் காவல் காத்து வந்தார். பவுல் அங்கு இரண்டு ஆண்டுகள் முழுவதும் தாம் வாடகைக்கு எடுத்த வீட்டில் தங்கியிருந்தார். தம்மிடம் வந்த அனைவரையும் வரவேற்று, இறையாட்சியைக் குறித்துப் பறைசாற்றி வந்தார். ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவைப் பற்றி முழுத்துணிவோடு தடை ஏதுமின்றிக் கற்பித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 14: 22-33

Then he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was many furlongs distant from the land, beaten by the waves; for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out for fear. But immediately he spoke to them, saying, "Take heart, it is I; have no fear." And Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, bid me come to you on the water." He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus; but when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me." Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, "O man of little faith, why did you doubt?" And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."
