My soul is longing and yearning,

The book of life was opened, and the dead were judged

A reading from the book of the Apocalypse 20:1-4,11-21:2 

I, John, saw an angel come down from heaven with the key of the Abyss in his hand and an enormous chain. He overpowered the dragon, that primeval serpent which is the devil and Satan, and chained him up for a thousand years. He threw him into the Abyss, and shut the entrance and sealed it over him, to make sure he would not deceive the nations again until the thousand years had passed. At the end of that time he must be released, but only for a short while.

  Then I saw some thrones, and I saw those who are given the power to be judges take their seats on them. I saw the souls of all who had been beheaded for having witnessed for Jesus and for having preached God’s word, and those who refused to worship the beast or his statue and would not have the brand-mark on their foreheads or hands; they came to life, and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. Then I saw a great white throne and the One who was sitting on it. In his presence, earth and sky vanished, leaving no trace. I saw the dead, both great and small, standing in front of his throne, while the book of life was opened, and other books opened which were the record of what they had done in their lives, by which the dead were judged.

  The sea gave up all the dead who were in it; Death and Hades were emptied of the dead that were in them; and every one was judged according to the way in which he had lived. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the burning lake. This burning lake is the second death; and anybody whose name could not be found written in the book of life was thrown into the burning lake.

  Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; the first heaven and the first earth had disappeared now, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the holy city, and the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, as beautiful as a bride all dressed for her husband.

பிற இனத்தாரின் காலம் நிறைவு பெறும்வரை எருசலேம் அவர்களால் மிதிக்கப்படும்.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய தூய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 21: 20-28

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடர்களை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “எருசலேமைப் படைகள் சூழ்ந்திருப்பதை நீங்கள் காணும்போது அதன் அழிவு நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது என அறிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள். அப்போது யூதேயாவில் உள்ளவர்கள் மலைகளுக்குத் தப்பி ஓடட்டும்; நகரத்தின் நடுவில் உள்ளவர்கள் வெளியேறட்டும்; நாட்டுப் புறங்களில் இருப்பவர்கள் நகரத்துக்குள்ளே வரவேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் அவை பழிவாங்கும் நாள்கள். அப்போது மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ள யாவும் நிறைவேறும்.

அந்நாள்களில் கருவுற்றிருப்போர், பாலூட்டுவோர் ஆகியோரின் நிலைமை அந்தோ பரிதாபம்! ஏனெனில் மண்ணுலகின்மீது பேரிடரும் அம்மக்கள்மீது கடவுளின் சினமும் வரும். அவர்கள் கூரான வாளால் வீழ்த்தப்படுவார்கள்; எல்லா நாடுகளுக்கும் சிறைப்பிடித்துச் செல்லப்படுவார்கள்; பிற இனத்தார் காலம் நிறைவு பெறும்வரை எருசலேம் அவர்களால் மிதிக்கப்படும்.

மேலும் கதிரவனிலும் நிலாவிலும் விண்மீன்களிலும் அடையாளங்கள் தென்படும். மண்ணுலகில் மக்களினங்கள் கடலின் கொந்தளிப்பின் முழக்கத்தினால் கலங்கி, என்ன செய்வதென்று தெரியாது குழப்பம் அடைவார்கள். உலகிற்கு என்ன நேருமோ என எண்ணி மனிதர் அச்சத்தினால் மயக்கமுறுவர். ஏனெனில், வான்வெளிக் கோள்கள் அதிரும்.

அப்போது மிகுந்த வல்லமையோடும் மாட்சியோடும் மானிடமகன் மேகங்கள்மீது வருவதை அவர்கள் காண்பார்கள். இவை நிகழத் தொடங்கும்போது, நீங்கள் தலை நிமிர்ந்து நில்லுங்கள்; ஏனெனில் உங்கள் மீட்பு நெருங்கி வருகின்றது.”

பாபிலோன் மாநகரே, நீ வீசி எறியப்படுவாய்.

திருத்தூதர் யோவான் எழுதிய திருவெளிப்பாட்டிலிருந்து வாசகம் 18: 1-2, 21-23; 19: 1-3, 9a

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

வேறொரு வானதூதர் விண்ணகத்திலிருந்து இறங்கிவரக் கண்டேன். மிகுந்த அதிகாரம் கொண்டிருந்த அவருடைய மாட்சியால் மண்ணகம் ஒளிர்ந்தது. அவர் வல்லமையோடு குரலெழுப்பிப் பின் வருமாறு கத்தினார்: “வீழ்ந்தது! வீழ்ந்தது! பாபிலோன் மாநகர்! அவள் பேய்களின் உறைவிடமாக, அனைத்துத் தீய ஆவிகளின் பதுங்கிடமாக, தூய்மையற்ற பறவைகள் அனைத்தின் புகலிடமாக, தூய்மையற்ற வெறுக்கத்தக்க விலங்குகளின் இருப்பிடமாக மாறிவிட்டாள்.” பின்னர் வலிமை வாய்ந்த ஒரு வானதூதர் பெரிய எந்திரக்கல் போன்ற ஒரு கல்லைத் தூக்கிக் கடலில் எறிந்து பின்வருமாறு கூறினார்:

“பாபிலோன் மாநகரே, நீ இவ்வாறு வீசி எறியப்படுவாய்; நீ இருந்த இடம் தெரியாமல் அழிந்துவிடுவாய். யாழை மீட்டுவோர், பாடகர், குழல் ஊதுவோர், எக்காளம் முழக்குவோர் ஆகியோர் எழுப்பும் இசை இனி உன் நடுவே எழவே எழாது; தொழில் செய்யும் கைவினைஞர் அனைவரும் இனி உன் நடுவே குடியிருக்கவே மாட்டார்கள்; எந்திரக்கல் எழுப்பும் ஒலி இனி உன் நடுவே எழவே எழாது. விளக்கின் ஒளி இனி உன்னகத்தே ஒளிரவே ஒளிராது; மணமக்களின் மங்கல ஒலி இனி உன்னகத்தே எழவே எழாது; ஏனெனில் உன் வணிகர்கள் மண்ணுலகில் பெருங்குடி மக்களாய் விளங்கினார்கள்; உன் பில்லிசூனியம் எல்லா நாடுகளையும் ஏமாற்றி விட்டது."

இதன்பின் பெருந்திரளான மக்களின் கூச்சல் போன்ற ஒலி விண்ணகத்தில் எழக் கேட்டேன். அது பின்வருமாறு முழங்கியது: “அல்லேலூயா! மீட்பும் மாட்சியும் வல்லமையும் நம் கடவுளுக்கே உரியன. ஏனெனில் அவருடைய தீர்ப்புகள் உண்மை உள்ளவை, நீதியானவை. தன் பரத்தைமையால் மண்ணுலகை அழிவுக்குட்படுத்திய பேர்போன அந்த விலைமகளுக்கு அவர் தீர்ப்பு வழங்கினார்; தம் பணியாளர்களைக் கொன்றதற்காக அவளைப் பழிவாங்கினார்.” மீண்டும் அந்த மக்கள், “அல்லேலூயா! அந்த நகர் நடுவிலிருந்து புகை என்றென்றும் மேலே எழுந்த வண்ணம் உள்ளது” என்றார்கள்.

அந்த வானதூதர் என்னிடம், “ ‘ஆட்டுக்குட்டியின் திருமண விருந்துக்கு அழைக்கப் பெற்றோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்’ என எழுது” என்று கூறினார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 21:20-28 

Jesus said to his disciples, ‘When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, you must realise that she will soon be laid desolate. Then those in Judaea must escape to the mountains, those inside the city must leave it, and those in country districts must not take refuge in it. For this is the time of vengeance when all that scripture says must be fulfilled. Alas for those with child, or with babies at the breast, when those days come!

  ‘For great misery will descend on the land and wrath on this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive to every pagan country; and Jerusalem will be trampled down by the pagans until the age of the pagans is completely over.

  ‘There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; on earth nations in agony, bewildered by the clamour of the ocean and its waves; men dying of fear as they await what menaces the world, for the powers of heaven will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand erect, hold your heads high, because your liberation is near at hand.’
