They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God boldly.

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles  4:23-31 

As soon as Peter and John were released they went to the community and told them everything the chief priests and elders had said to them. When they heard it they lifted up their voice to God all together. ‘Master,’ they prayed ‘it is you who made heaven and earth and sea, and everything in them; you it is who said through the Holy Spirit and speaking through our ancestor David, your servant:

Why this arrogance among the nations,

these futile plots among the peoples?

Kings on earth setting out to war,

princes making an alliance,

against the Lord and against his Anointed.

‘This is what has come true: in this very city Herod and Pontius Pilate made an alliance with the pagan nations and the peoples of Israel, against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed, but only to bring about the very thing that you in your strength and your wisdom had predetermined should happen. And now, Lord, take note of their threats and help your servants to proclaim your message with all boldness, by stretching out your hand to heal and to work miracles and marvels through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’ As they prayed, the house where they were assembled rocked; they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God boldly.

எட்டு நாள்களுக்குப் பின் இயேசு சீடர்களுக்குத் தோன்றினார்.

அன்று வாரத்தின் முதல் நாள். அது மாலை வேளை. யூதர்களுக்கு அஞ்சிச் சீடர்கள் தாங்கள் இருந்த இடத்தின் கதவுகளை மூடிவைத்திருந்தார்கள். அப்போது இயேசு அங்கு வந்து அவர்கள் நடுவில் நின்று, “உங்களுக்கு அமைதி உரித்தாகுக!” என்று வாழ்த்தினார். இவ்வாறு சொல்லியபின் அவர் தம் கைகளையும் விலாவையும் அவர்களிடம் காட்டினார். ஆண்டவரைக் கண்டதால் சீடர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சி கொண்டார்கள்.

இயேசு மீண்டும் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “உங்களுக்கு அமைதி உரித்தாகுக! தந்தை என்னை அனுப்பியதுபோல நானும் உங்களை அனுப்புகிறேன்” என்றார். இதைச் சொன்னபின் அவர் அவர்கள்மேல் ஊதி, “தூய ஆவியைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள். எவருடைய பாவங்களை நீங்கள் மன்னிப்பீர்களோ, அவை மன்னிக்கப்படும். எவருடைய பாவங்களை மன்னியாதிருப்பீர்களோ, அவை மன்னிக்கப்படா” என்றார்.

பன்னிருவருள் ஒருவரான திதிம் என்னும் தோமா, இயேசு வந்தபோது அவர்களோடு இல்லை. மற்றச் சீடர்கள் அவரிடம், “ஆண்டவரைக் கண்டோம்” என்றார்கள். தோமா அவர்களிடம், “அவருடைய கைகளில் ஆணிகளால் ஏற்பட்ட தழும்பைப் பார்த்து, அதில் என் விரலை விட்டு, அவர் விலாவில் என் கையை இட்டாலன்றி நான் நம்பமாட்டேன்” என்றார்.

எட்டு நாள்களுக்குப்பின் அவருடைய சீடர்கள் மீண்டும் உள்ளே கூடியிருந்தார்கள். அன்று தோமாவும் அவர்களோடு இருந்தார். கதவுகள் பூட்டப்பட்டிருந்தும் இயேசு உள்ளே வந்து அவர்கள் நடுவில் நின்று, “உங்களுக்கு அமைதி உரித்தாகுக!” என்று வாழ்த்தினார். பின்னர் அவர் தோமாவிடம், “இதோ! என் கைகள். இங்கே உன் விரலை இடு. உன் கையை நீட்டி என் விலாவில் இடு. ஐயம் தவிர்த்து நம்பிக்கை கொள்” என்றார்.

தோமா அவரைப் பார்த்து, “நீரே என் ஆண்டவர்! நீரே என் கடவுள்!!” என்றார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “நீ என்னைக் கண்டதால் நம்பினாய். காணாமலே நம்புவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்” என்றார்.

வேறு பல அரும் அடையாளங்களையும் இயேசு தம் சீடர்கள் முன்னிலையில் செய்தார். அவையெல்லாம் இந்நூலில் எழுதப்படவில்லை. இயேசுவே இறைமகனாகிய மெசியா என நீங்கள் நம்புவதற்காகவும், நம்பி அவர் பெயரால் வாழ்வு பெறுவதற்காகவுமே இந்நூலில் உள்ளவை எழுதப்பெற்றுள்ளன.

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

சாவுக்கு உட்பட்டேனாயினும், இதோ நான் என்றென்றும் வாழ்கிறேன்.

உங்கள் சகோதரனும், இயேசுவோடு இணைந்த நிலையில் உங்கள் வேதனையிலும் ஆட்சியுரிமையிலும் மனவுறுதியிலும் பங்கு கொள்பவனுமான யோவான் என்னும் நான் கடவுளின் வாக்கை அறிவித்து இயேசுவுக்குச் சான்று பகர்ந்ததால் பத்மு தீவுக்கு வர நேர்ந்தது. ஒரு ஞாயிற்றுக் கிழமையன்று தூய ஆவி என்னை ஆட்கொள்ளவே எனக்குப் பின்னால் பெரும் குரல் ஒன்று எக்காளம் போல முழங்கக் கேட்டேன். “நீ காண்பதை ஒரு சுருளேட்டில் எழுதி ஏழு இடங்களிலும் உள்ள திருச்சபைகளுக்கு அதை அனுப்பி வை” என்று அக்குரல் கூறியது.

என்னோடு பேசியவர் யார் என்று பார்க்கத் திரும்பினேன். அப்பொழுது ஏழு பொன் விளக்குத் தண்டுகளைக் கண்டேன். அவற்றின் நடுவே மானிடமகனைப் போன்ற ஒருவரைப் பார்த்தேன். அவர் நீண்ட அங்கியும் மார்பில் பொன் பட்டையும் அணிந்திருந்தார்.

நான் அவரைக் கண்டபொழுது செத்தவனைப்போல் அவரது காலில் விழுந்தேன். அவர் தமது வலக் கையை என் மீது வைத்துச் சொன்னது: “அஞ்சாதே! முதலும் முடிவும் நானே. வாழ்பவரும் நானே. இறந்தேன்; ஆயினும் இதோ என்றென்றும் வாழ்கின்றேன். சாவின் மீதும் பாதாளத்தின் மீதும் எனக்கு அதிகாரம் உண்டு. எனவே நீ காண்பவற்றை, அதாவது இப்பொழுது நிகழ்கின்றவற்றையும் இனி நிகழ இருப்பவற்றையும் எழுதிவை.”

அந்நாள்களில்

மக்களிடையே பல அரும் அடையாளங்களும் அருஞ்செயல்களும் திருத்தூதர் வழியாய்ச் செய்யப்பட்டன. அனைவரும் சாலமோன் மண்டபத்தில் ஒருமனத்தவராய்க் கூடிவந்தனர். மற்றவர் யாரும் இவர்களோடு சேர்ந்துகொள்ளத் துணியவில்லை. ஆயினும் மக்கள் இவர்களைப் பற்றிப் பெருமையாகப் பேசினர்.

ஆண்டவரிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொண்ட திரளான ஆண்களும் பெண்களும் இவர்களோடு சேர்க்கப்பட்டார்கள். பேதுரு நடந்து செல்லும்போது அவர் நிழல் சிலர் மேலாவது படுமாறு மக்கள் உடல் நலமற்றோரைக் கட்டில்களிலும் படுக்கைகளிலும் கிடத்திச் சுமந்துகொண்டுவந்து வீதிகளில் வைத்தார்கள்; எருசலேமைச் சுற்றியிருந்த நகரங்களிலிருந்து மக்கள் உடல் நலமற்றோரையும் தீய ஆவிகளால் இன்னலுற்றோரையும் சுமந்து கொண்டு திரளாகக் கூடிவந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் அனைவரும் நலம் பெற்றனர்.

Eight days later, Jesus came again and stood among them

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 20: 19-31 

In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, ‘Peace be with you’, and showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord, and he said to them again, ‘Peace be with you.

‘As the Father sent me,

so am I sending you.’

After saying this he breathed on them and said:

‘Receive the Holy Spirit.

For those whose sins you forgive,

they are forgiven;

for those whose sins you retain,

they are retained.’

Thomas, called the Twin, who was one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. When the disciples said, ‘We have seen the Lord’, he answered, ‘Unless I see the holes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into the holes they made, and unless I can put my hand into his side, I refuse to believe.’ Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors were closed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. ‘Peace be with you’ he said. Then he spoke to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put it into my side. Doubt no longer but believe.’ Thomas replied, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him:

‘You believe because you can see me.

Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.’

There were many other signs that Jesus worked and the disciples saw, but they are not recorded in this book. These are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing this you may have life through his name.

I was dead, and now I am to live for ever and ever

A reading from the book of the Apocalypse 1:9-13,17-19 

My name is John, and through our union in Jesus I am your brother and share your sufferings, your kingdom, and all you endure. I was on the island of Patmos for having preached God’s word and witnessed for Jesus; it was the Lord’s day and the Spirit possessed me, and I heard a voice behind me, shouting like a trumpet, ‘Write down all that you see in a book.’ I turned round to see who had spoken to me, and when I turned I saw seven golden lamp-stands and, surrounded by them, a figure like a Son of man, dressed in a long robe tied at the waist with a golden girdle.

  When I saw him, I fell in a dead faint at his feet, but he touched me with his right hand and said, ‘Do not be afraid; it is I, the First and the Last; I am the Living One, I was dead and now I am to live for ever and ever, and I hold the keys of death and of the underworld. Now write down all that you see of present happenings and things that are still to come.’
