Be an example to all the believers.

A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to Timothy 4 : 12-16.

Beloved: Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. Practise these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு, “இத்தலைமுறையின் மக்களை யாருக்கு ஒப்பிடுவேன்? இவர்கள் யாருக்கு ஒப்பானவர்கள்? இவர்கள் சந்தை வெளியில் உட்கார்ந்து ஒருவரை ஒருவர் கூப்பிட்டு ‘நாங்கள் குழல் ஊதினோம்; நீங்கள் கூத்தாடவில்லை. நாங்கள் ஒப்பாரி வைத்தோம்; நீங்கள் அழவில்லை’ என்று கூறி விளையாடும் சிறு பிள்ளைகளுக்கு ஒப்பானவர்கள்.

எப்படியெனில், திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் வந்தார்; அவர் உணவு அருந்தவும் இல்லை; திராட்சை மது குடிக்கவும் இல்லை; அவரை, ‘பேய் பிடித்தவன்’ என்றீர்கள்.

மானிட மகன் வந்துள்ளார்; அவர் உண்கிறார், குடிக்கிறார்; நீங்களோ, ‘இம்மனிதன் பெருந்தீனிக்காரன், குடிகாரன், வரிதண்டுபவர்களுக்கும் பாவிகளுக்கும் நண்பன்’ என்கிறீர்கள். எனினும் ஞானம் மெய்யானது என்பதற்கு அதை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டோரின் செயல்களே சான்று” என்றார்.

அன்பிற்குரியவரே,

நான் விரைவில் உன்னிடம் வருவேன் என்னும் எதிர்நோக்குடன் இவற்றை உனக்கு எழுதுகிறேன். நான் வரக் காலம் தாழ்த்தினால், நீ கடவுளின் வீட்டாரிடம் எவ்வாறு நடந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும் என்பதை இத்திருமுகத்தின் வழியாகத் தெரிந்துகொள்ளலாம். இவ்வீட்டாரே வாழும் கடவுளின் திருச்சபை; இத்திருச்சபை உண்மைக்குத் தூணும் அடித்தளமுமாய் இருக்கிறது.

நமது சமயத்தின் மறை உண்மை உயர்வானது என்பதில் ஐயமே இல்லை. அது பின்வருமாறு: “மானிடராய் அவர் வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட்டார்; தூய ஆவியால் நேர்மையாளர் என மெய்ப்பிக்கப்பட்டார்; வானதூதருக்குத் தோன்றினார். பிற இனத்தாருக்குப் பறைசாற்றப்பட்டார்; உலகினரால் நம்பிக்கையோடு ஏற்கப்பெற்றார்; மாட்சியோடு விண்ணேற்றமடைந்தார்.”

At that time: Jesus said, “To what then shall I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children sitting in the market-place and calling to one another, “‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.’ For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.”

The mystery of our religion is very deep

A reading from the first letter of St.Timothy 3: 14-16 

Beloved: I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that, if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth. Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
