A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 8:19-21

At that time: His mother and his brothers came to Jesus, but they could not reach him because of the crowd. And he was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see you.” But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”

Jerusalem is built as a city bonded as one together. It is there that the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord.

For Israel’s witness it is to praise the name of the Lord. There were set the thrones for judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

Darius king of Persia pays for the rebuilding of the Temple of God

A reading from the book of Ezra 6:7-8,12,14-20 

In those days: Darius the king wrote to the governors of the province Beyond the river, “Leave the work on this house of God alone. Let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its site. Moreover, I make a decree regarding what you shall do for these elders of the Jews for the rebuilding of this house of God. The cost is to be paid to these men in full and without delay from the royal revenue, the tribute of the province from Beyond the River. “I Darius make a decree; let it be done with all diligence.” And the elders of the Jews built and prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. They finished their building by decree of the God of Israel and by decree of Cyrus and Darius and Artaxerxes king of Persia; and this house was finished on the third day of the month of Adar, in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king. And the people of Israel, the priests and the Levites, and the rest of the returned exiles, celebrated the dedication of this house of God with joy. They offered at the dedication of this house of God one hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, and as a sin offering for all Israel twelve male goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel. And they set the priests in their divisions and the Levites in their divisions, for the service of God at Jerusalem, as it is written in the Book of Moses. On the fourteenth day of the first month, the returned exiles kept the Passover. For the priests and the Levites had purified themselves together; all of them were clean. So they slaughtered the Passover lamb for all the returned exiles, for their fellow priests, and for themselves.

எஸ்ரா நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 1: 1-6

எரேமியா வழியாக வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட்ட இறைவாக்கு நிறைவேறும்படி பாரசீக மன்னர் சைரசின் முதல் ஆண்டில் அவரது உள்ளுணர்வை ஆண்டவர் தூண்டினார். எனவே சைரசு ஆணை ஒன்றைப் பிறப்பித்து, அதைத் தம் நாடெங்கும் எழுத்து மூலம் வெளியிட்டார்.

அப்போது யூதா, பென்யமினுடைய குலத் தலைவர்களும், குருக்களும், லேவியரும், எருசலேமில் ஆண்டவரின் கோவிலைக் கட்டச் செல்லுமாறு ஆண்டவரால் தூண்டப்பெற்ற அனைவரும் புறப்பட்டார்கள். அவர்களைச் சூழ்ந்து வாழ்ந்த மக்கள் தன்னார்வக் காணிக்கை அனைத்தும் கொடுத்ததுமல்லாமல் அவர்களுக்கு வெள்ளிப் பாத்திரங்களையும், பொன்னையும், மற்றப் பொருள்களையும், கால்நடைகளையும், விலையுயர்ந்த பொருள்களையும் கொடுத்து உதவினார்கள்.

At that time: Jesus said to the crowds, “No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light. Take care then how you hear, for to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away.”
