நாங்கள் அடிமைகளாக இருந்தும், எம் கடவுளாகிய நீர் எங்களை அடிமைத்தனத்திற்கு கையளிக்கவில்லை.

எஸ்ரா நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 9: 5-9

மாலைப் பலி நேரத்தில் நோன்பை முடித்துக் கிழிந்த ஆடையோடும் மேலுடையோடும் முழந்தாளிட்டு என் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவரை நோக்கி கைகளை விரித்து, எஸ்ராவாகிய நான் கூறியது:

“கடவுளே! உம்மை நோக்கி என் முகத்தைத் திருப்ப வெட்கி நாணுகிறேன். ஏனெனில், எங்கள் பாவங்கள் எங்கள் தலைக்குமேல் பெருகிவிட்டன. எங்கள் குற்றங்கள் விண்ணைத் தொட்டுவிட்டன. எம் முன்னோர் காலமுதல் இதுவரை நாங்கள் பெரும் பாவம் செய்துள்ளோம். எங்கள் பாவங்களினால், நாங்களும் எங்கள் அரசர்களும், குருக்களும் வேற்று நாட்டு மன்னர்களின் கைக்கும், வாளுக்கும், அடிமைத்தனத்திற்கும், கொள்ளைக்கும், வெட்கக் கேட்டுக்கும் இதுவரை ஒப்புவிக்கப்பட்டோம்.

ஆனால், தற்பொழுது சிறிது காலமாய் எம் கடவுளும் ஆண்டவருமாகிய உமது கருணை துலங்கியுள்ளது; எங்களுள் சிலரை எஞ்சியோராக விட்டுவைத்தீர்; உமது புனித இடத்தில் எங்களுக்குச் சிறிது இடம் தந்தீர்; எம் கடவுளாகிய நீர் எம் கண்களுக்கு ஒளி தந்தீர்; எமது அடிமைத்தனத்திலிருந்து சற்று விடுதலை அளித்தீர். நாங்கள் அடிமைகளாக இருந்தும், எம் கடவுளாகிய நீர் எங்களை அடிமைத்தனத்திற்குக் கையளிக்கவில்லை. மாறாக நாங்கள் உயிர் பிழைக்கவும், எங்கள் கடவுளின் கோவிலை எழுப்பவும், பாழடைந்ததைப் பழுது பார்க்கவும் யூதேயாவிலும் எருசலேமிலும் பாதுகாப்பு அளிக்கவும் பாரசீக மன்னர்களின் முன் எமக்கு உமது தயை கிடைக்கவும் செய்தருளினீர்!”

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 9:1-6 

At that time: Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

A reading from the book of Ezra 9 : 5-9

At the evening sacrifice

I, Ezra, rose from my fasting, with my garment and my cloak torn, and fell upon my knees and spread out my hands to the Lord my God, saying: “O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift my face to you, my God, for our iniquities have risen higher than our heads, and our guilt has mounted up to the heavens. From the days of our fathers to this day we have been in great guilt. And for our iniquities we, our kings, and our priests have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plundering, and to utter shame, as it is today. But now for a brief moment favour has been shown by the Lord our God, to leave us a remnant and to give us a secure hold within his holy place, that our God may brighten our eyes and grant us a little reviving in our slavery. For we are slaves. Yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery, but has extended to us his steadfast love before the kings of Persia, to grant us some reviving to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us protection in Judea and Jerusalem.”

எஸ்ரா நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 6: 7-8, 12b, 14-20

இறைவாக்கினர் ஆகாயும் இத்தோவின் மகன் செக்கரியாவும் இறைவாக்கு உரைத்ததன் விளைவாக யூத மூப்பர்கள் கோவிலைக் கட்டினர்; வேலையும் முன்னேறிக் கொண்டிருந்தது. இஸ்ரயேலின் கடவுளது ஆணையாலும், பாரசீக மன்னர்களான சைரசு, தாரியு, அர்த்தக்சஸ்தா ஆகியோரின் கட்டளையாலும் அவர்கள் கட்டடப் பணியை முடித்தனர். மன்னர் தாரியு ஆட்சியின் ஆறாம் ஆண்டிலே, அதார் திங்கள் மூன்றாம் நாளிலே, கோவில் வேலை நிறைவுற்றது.

இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள், குருக்கள், லேவியர், அடிமைத்தனத்திலிருந்து திரும்பி வந்த ஏனையோர், கடவுளின் கோவில் அர்ப்பண விழாவை அக்களிப்புடன் கொண்டாடினார்கள். கடவுளின் கோவில் அர்ப்பண விழாவில் நூறு காளைகளையும், இருநூறு செம்மறிக் கிடாய்களையும், நானூறு செம்மறிக் குட்டிகளையும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்கள்; இஸ்ரயேல் குலக் கணக்கின்படி, பன்னிரண்டு வெள்ளாட்டுக் கிடாய்களை இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் பாவம் போக்கும் பலியாகச் செலுத்தினார்கள். மோசேயின் நூலில் எழுதியுள்ளபடி, எருசலேமில் கடவுளின் பணிக்காகக் குருக்களை அவர்களின் பிரிவின்படியும் லேவியரை அவர்களின் துறைகளின்படியும் அவர்கள் நியமித்தனர்.

மேலும் அடிமைத்தனத்திலிருந்து திரும்பி வந்த மக்கள் பாஸ்கா விழாவை முதல் மாதத்தின் பதினான்காம் நாள் கொண்டாடினர். குருக்களும் லேவியரும் ஒன்றிணைந்து தங்களைத் தூய்மைப்படுத்திக் கொண்டனர். அவர்கள் தூய்மையானார்கள். அடிமைத்தனத்திலிருந்து திரும்பி வந்திருந்த எல்லா மக்களுக்காகவும், சகோதரக் குருக்களுக்காகவும், தங்களுக்காகவும் அவர்கள் பாஸ்கா ஆட்டுக்குட்டியைக் கொன்றனர்.
