'I will be the glory of Jerusalem'

A reading from the book of Zechariah 2:1-5, 10-11a

I, Zechariah, lifted my eyes and saw, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand! Then I said, “Where are you going?” And he said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.” And behold, the angel who talked with me came forward, and another angel came forward to meet him and said to him, “Run, say to that young man, ‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of people and livestock in it. And I will be to her a wall of fire all round, declares the Lord, and I will be the glory in her midst.’ ” Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Sion, for behold, I come and I will dwell in your midst, declares the Lord. And many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people. And I will dwell in your midst.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தனித்து இறைவனிடம் வேண்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தபோது சீடர் மட்டும் அவரோடு இருந்தனர். அப்போது அவர்களிடம் “நான் யார் என மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?” என்று அவர் கேட்டார்.

அவர்கள் மறு மொழியாக, “சிலர் திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் எனவும் வேறு சிலர் எலியா எனவும் மற்றும் சிலர் முற்காலத்து இறைவாக்கினருள் ஒருவர் உயிர்த்தெழுந்துள்ளார் எனவும் சொல்கின்றனர்” என்றார்கள்.

“ஆனால் நீங்கள் நான் யார் எனச் சொல்கிறீர்கள்?” என்று அவர்களிடம் அவர் கேட்டார். பேதுரு மறுமொழியாக, “நீர் கடவுளின் மெசியா” என்று உரைத்தார். இதை யாரிடமும் சொல்ல வேண்டாம் என்று அவர்களிடம் அவர் கண்டிப்பாய்க் கூறினார்.

மேலும் இயேசு, “மானிட மகன் பலவாறு துன்பப்படவும் மூப்பர்கள், தலைமைக் குருக்கள், மறைநூல் அறிஞர் ஆகியோரால் உதறித் தள்ளப்பட்டுக் கொலை செய்யப்படவும் மூன்றாம் நாளில் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்படவும் வேண்டும்” என்று சொன்னார்.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 9: 18-22 

Now it happened that as Jesus was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” And they answered, “John the Baptist. But others say, Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.” Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.” And he strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one, saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”

'The new glory of this Temple is to surpass the old'

A reading from the Book of  Haggai 2 :1-9. 

In the second year of Darius the king, in the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet: “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, and say, ‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How do you see it now? Is it not as nothing in your eyes? Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, declares the Lord. Be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land, declares the Lord. Work, for I am with you, declares the Lord of hosts, according to the covenant that I made with you when you came out of Egypt. My Spirit remains in your midst. Fear not. For thus says the Lord of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the Lord of hosts. The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts.
