Towards Jerusalem I send flowing peace, like a river

A Reading from the Book of Isaiah 66:10-14 

Rejoice, Jerusalem,

be glad for her, all you who love her!

Rejoice, rejoice for her,

all you who mourned her!

That you may be suckled, filled,

from her consoling breast,

that you may savour with delight

her glorious breasts.

For thus says the Lord:

Now towards her I send flowing

peace, like a river,

and like a stream in spate

the glory of the nations.

At her breast will her nurslings be carried

and fondled in her lap.

Like a son comforted by his mother

will I comfort you.

And by Jerusalem you will be comforted.

At the sight your heart will rejoice,

and your bones flourish like the grass.

To his servants the Lord will reveal his hand.

அக்காலத்தில்,

சீடர்கள் இயேசுவை அணுகி, “விண்ணரசில் மிகப் பெரியவர் யார்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள். அவர் ஒரு சிறு பிள்ளையை அழைத்து அவர்கள் நடுவில் நிறுத்தி, பின்வருமாறு கூறினார்: “நீங்கள் மனந்திரும்பிச் சிறு பிள்ளைகளைப்போல் ஆகாவிட்டால் விண்ணரசில் புகமாட்டீர்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். இந்தச் சிறு பிள்ளையைப்போலத் தம்மைத் தாழ்த்திக் கொள்பவரே விண்ணரசில் மிகப் பெரியவர். இத்தகைய சிறு பிள்ளை ஒன்றை என் பெயரால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்பவர் எவரும் என்னையே ஏற்றுக்கொள்கிறார்.”

எருசலேமின் மேல் அன்பு கொண்ட அனைவரும் அவளுடன் அகமகிழ்ந்து அவள் பொருட்டு அக்களியுங்கள்; அவளுக்காகப் புலம்பி அழும் எல்லாரும் அவளுடன் சேர்ந்து மகிழ்ந்து கொண்டாடி ஆர்ப்பரியுங்கள். அப்போது அவளின் ஆறுதல் அளிக்கும் முலைகளில் குடித்து நீங்கள் நிறைவடைவீர்கள்; அவள் செல்வப் பெருக்கில் நிறைவாக அருந்தி இன்பம் காண்பீர்கள்.

இதை நீங்கள் காண்பீர்கள், உங்கள் இதயம் மகிழ்ச்சி கொள்ளும், உங்கள் எலும்புகள் பசும்புல் போல் வளரும்; ஆண்டவர் தம் ஆற்றலைத் தம் ஊழியருக்குக் காட்டுவார்.

Jesus sets out for Jerusalem

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 9: 51-56 

When the days drew near for Jesus to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. But other people did not receive him, because his face was set towards Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” But he turned and rebuked them. And they went on to another village.

Many peoples and great nations will come to seek the Lord of Hosts.

A reading from the book of Zechariah 8: 20-23 

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: Peoples shall yet come, even the inhabitants of many cities. The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, ‘Let us go at once to entreat the favour of the Lord, and to seek the Lord of hosts; I myself am going.’ Many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favour of the Lord. Thus says the Lord of hosts: In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’”
