அக்காலத்தில்

திருச்சட்ட அறிஞர் ஒருவர் எழுந்து இயேசுவைச் சோதிக்கும் நோக்குடன், “போதகரே, நிலைவாழ்வை உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்ள நான் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும்?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அதற்கு இயேசு, “திருச்சட்ட நூலில் என்ன எழுதியிருக்கிறது? அதில் நீர் என்ன வாசிக்கிறீர்?” என்று அவரிடம் கேட்டார். அவர் மறுமொழியாக, “ ‘உன் முழு இதயத்தோடும், முழு உள்ளத்தோடும், முழு ஆற்றலோடும், முழு மனத்தோடும் உன் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவரிடம் அன்புகூர்வாயாக. உன்மீது நீ அன்புகூர்வதுபோல் உனக்கு அடுத்திருப்பவர்மீதும் அன்பு கூர்வாயாக’ என்று எழுதியுள்ளது” என்றார். இயேசு, “சரியாய்ச் சொன்னீர்; அப்படியே செய்யும்; அப்பொழுது வாழ்வீர்” என்றார்.

அவர், தம்மை நேர்மையாளர் எனக் காட்ட விரும்பி, “எனக்கு அடுத்திருப்பவர் யார்?” என்று இயேசுவிடம் கேட்டார்.

அதற்கு அவர் மறுமொழியாகக் கூறிய உவமை: “ஒருவர் எருசலேமிலிருந்து எரிகோவுக்குப் போகும்போது கள்வர் கையில் அகப்பட்டார். அவருடைய ஆடைகளை அவர்கள் உரிந்துகொண்டு, அவரை அடித்துக் குற்றுயிராக விட்டுப் போனார்கள். குரு ஒருவர் தற்செயலாய் அவ்வழியே வந்தார். அவர் அவரைக் கண்டதும் மறுபக்கமாக விலகிச் சென்றார். அவ்வாறே லேவியர் ஒருவரும் அவ்விடத்துக்கு வந்து அவரைக் கண்டதும் மறுபக்கமாய் விலகிச் சென்றார்.

ஆனால் அவ்வழியே பயணம் செய்துகொண்டிருந்த சமாரியர் ஒருவர் அருகில் வந்து அவரைக் கண்டபோது அவர்மீது பரிவு கொண்டார். அவர் அவரை அணுகி, காயங்களில் திராட்சை மதுவும் எண்ணெயும் வார்த்து, அவற்றைக் கட்டி, தாம் பயணம் செய்த விலங்கின்மீது ஏற்றி, ஒரு சாவடிக்குக் கொண்டு போய் அவரைக் கவனித்துக்கொண்டார்.

மறுநாள் இரு தெனாரியத்தை எடுத்து, சாவடிப் பொறுப்பாளரிடம் கொடுத்து, ‘இவரைக் கவனித்துக்கொள்ளும்; இதற்கு மேல் செலவானால் நான் திரும்பி வரும்போது உமக்குத் தருவேன்” என்றார்.

“கள்வர் கையில் அகப்பட்டவருக்கு இம்மூவருள் எவர் அடுத்திருப்பவர் என உமக்குத் தோன்றுகிறது?” என்று இயேசு கேட்டார். அதற்குத் திருச்சட்ட அறிஞர், “அவருக்கு இரக்கம் காட்டியவரே” என்றார். இயேசு, “நீரும் போய் அப்படியே செய்யும்” என்று கூறினார்.

யோனாவோ ஆண்டவரிடமிருந்து தப்பியோட எண்ணித் தர்சீசுக்குப் புறப்பட்டார்.

இறைவாக்கினர் யோனா நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 1: 1-17

அமித்தாயின் மகன் யோனாவுக்கு ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு அருளப்பட்டது. அவர், “நீ புறப்பட்டு நினிவே மாநகருக்குப் போய், அதற்கு அழிவு வரப்போகிறது என்று அங்குள்ளோருக்கு அறிவி. அவர்கள் செய்யும் தீமைகள் என்முன்னே வந்து குவிகின்றன” என்றார்.

யோனாவோ ஆண்டவரிடமிருந்து தப்பியோட எண்ணித் தர்சீசுக்குப் புறப்பட்டார். அவர் யோப்பாவுக்குப் போய், அங்கே தர்சீசுக்குப் புறப்பட இருந்த ஒரு கப்பலைக் கண்டார்; உடனே கட்டணத்தைக் கொடுத்துவிட்டு, ஆண்டவர் திருமுன்னின்று தப்பியோட அந்தக் கப்பலில் ஏறி, அதில் இருந்தவர்களோடு தர்சீசுக்குப் பயணப்பட்டார்.

ஆனால் ஆண்டவர் கடலில் கடுங்காற்று வீசும்படி செய்தார். கடலில் பெரும் கொந்தளிப்பு உண்டாயிற்று; கப்பல் உடைந்துபோகும் நிலையில் இருந்தது. கப்பலில் இருந்தவர்கள் திகிலடைந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் தம் தம் தெய்வத்தை நோக்கி மன்றாடலானார்கள். கப்பலின் பளுவைக் குறைப்பதற்காக அவர்கள் அதிலிருந்த சரக்குகளைக் கடலில் தூக்கியெறிந்தார்கள். யோனாவோ ஏற்கெனவே கப்பலின் அடித்தட்டுக்குப் போய்ப் படுத்து அயர்ந்து தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

கப்பல் தலைவன் அவரிடம் வந்து, “என்ன இது? இப்படித் தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறாயே! எழுந்திரு. நீயும் உன் தெய்வத்தை நோக்கி வேண்டிக் கொள். ஒருவேளை அந்தத் தெய்வமாவது நம்மைக் காப்பாற்றலாம். நாம் அழிந்து போகாதிருப்போம்” என்றான்.

பிறகு கப்பலில் இருந்தவர்கள், “நமக்கு இந்தப் பெரும் தீங்கு யாரால் வந்தது என்று கண்டறியச் சீட்டுக் குலுக்குவோம்” என்று ஒருவரோடு ஒருவர் பேசிக் கொண்டார்கள். அவ்வாறே அவர்கள் சீட்டுக் குலுக்கிப் போட்டார்கள். சீட்டு யோனாவின் பெயருக்கு விழுந்தது. எனவே, அவர்கள் அவரை நோக்கி, “இப்பொழுது சொல். இந்தப் பெருந்தீங்கு யாரால் வந்தது? உன் வேலை என்ன? எங்கிருந்து வருகிறாய்? உன் நாடு எது? உன் இனம் எது?” என்று கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கு அவர், “நான் ஓர் எபிரேயன். நீரையும் நிலத்தையும் படைத்த விண்ணகக் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவரை வழிபடுபவன்” என்று சொன்னார். மேலும், தாம் அந்த ஆண்டவரிடமிருந்து தப்பியோடி வந்ததாகவும் கூறினார்.

எனவே அவர்கள் மிகவும் அஞ்சி, “நீ ஏன் இப்படிச் செய்தாய்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள். கடலில் கொந்தளிப்பு மேலும் கடுமையாகிக் கொண்டிருந்ததால் அவர்கள் யோனாவிடம், “கடல் கொந்தளிப்பு அடங்கும்படி நாங்கள் உன்னை என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும்? “ என்று கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கு அவர், “நீங்கள் என்னைத் தூக்கிக் கடலில் எறிந்து விடுங்கள். அப்பொழுது கொந்தளிப்பு அடங்கிவிடும்; நீங்கள் பிழைத்துக் கொள்வீர்கள். உங்களைத் தாக்கும் இந்தக் கடும்புயல் என்னால்தான் உண்டாயிற்று என்பது எனக்குத் தெரியும்” என்றார்.

ஆயினும் அவர்கள் கரைபோய்ச் சேர மிகுந்த வலிமையுடன் தண்டு வலித்தனர்; ஆனால் அவர்களால் இயலவில்லை. ஏனெனில் கடலின் கொந்தளிப்பு மேலும் மிகுதியாகிக் கொண்டேயிருந்தது. அவர்கள் அதைக் கண்டு ஆண்டவரை நோக்கிக் கதறி, “ஆண்டவரே, இந்த மனிதனுடைய உயிரின் பொருட்டு எங்களை அழியவிட வேண்டாம்; குற்றமில்லாத ஒருவனைச் சாகடித்ததாக எங்கள்மீது பழி சுமத்த வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில், ஆண்டவராகிய நீரே உமது திருவுளத்திற்கேற்ப இவ்வாறு செய்கிறீர்” என்று சொல்லி மன்றாடினார்கள்.

பிறகு அவர்கள் யோனாவைத் தூக்கிக் கடலில் எறிந்தார்கள்; கடல் கொந்தளிப்பும் தணிந்தது. அதைக் கண்டு அந்த மனிதர்கள் ஆண்டவருக்கு மிகவும் அஞ்சினார்கள். அவர்கள் ஆண்டவருக்குப் பலி செலுத்தினார்கள்; பொருத்தனைகளும் செய்து கொண்டார்கள்.

ஆண்டவர் ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்தபடியே ஒரு பெரிய மீன் வந்து யோனாவை விழுங்கிற்று. யோனா மூன்று நாள் அல்லும் பகலும் அந்த மீன் வயிற்றில் இருந்தார்.

How do you read it?” And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself.” And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbour?” Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me.” But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord. But the Lord hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship threatened to break up. Then the mariners were afraid, and each cried out to his god. And they hurled the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down into the inner part of the ship and had lain down and was fast asleep. So the captain came and said to him, “What do you mean, you sleeper? Arise, call out to your god! Perhaps the god will give a thought to us, that we may not perish.” And they said to one another, “Come, let us cast lots, that we may know on whose account this evil has come upon us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah. Therefore they called out to the Lord, “O Lord, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not on us innocent blood, for you, O Lord, have done as it pleased you.” So they picked up Jonah and hurled him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging. At that time: The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea’, and it would obey you. Will any one of you who has a servant ploughing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and recline at table’? Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, and dress properly, and serve me while I eat and drink, and afterwards you will eat and drink’? Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’”
