He is coming at an hour you do not expect.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 24:42-51 

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Stay awake, because you do not know the day when your master is coming. You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what time of the night the burglar would come, he would have stayed awake and would not have allowed anyone to break through the wall of his house. Therefore, you too must stand ready because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

  ‘What sort of servant, then, is faithful and wise enough for the master to place him over his household to give them their food at the proper time? Happy that servant if his master’s arrival finds him at this employment. I tell you solemnly, he will place him over everything he owns. But as for the dishonest servant who says to himself, “My master is taking his time,” and sets about beating his fellow servants and eating and drinking with drunkards, his master will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know. The master will cut him off and send him to the same fate as the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.’

A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 1:1-9.

I, Paul, appointed by God to be an apostle, together with brother Sosthenes, send greetings to the church of God in Corinth, to the holy people of Jesus Christ, who are called to take their place among all the saints everywhere who pray to our Lord Jesus Christ; for he is their Lord no less than ours. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ send you grace and peace.

  I never stop thanking God for all the graces you have received through Jesus Christ. I thank him that you have been enriched in so many ways, especially in your teachers and preachers; the witness to Christ has indeed been strong among you so that you will not be without any of the gifts of the Spirit while you are waiting for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed; and he will keep you steady and without blame until the last day, the day of our Lord Jesus Christ, because God by calling you has joined you to his Son, Jesus Christ; and God is faithful.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடரிடம் கூறியது: “விழிப்பாய் இருங்கள்; ஏனெனில் உங்கள் ஆண்டவர் எந்த நாளில் வருவார் என உங்களுக்குத் தெரியாது. இரவில் எந்தக் காவல் வேளையில் திருடன் வருவான் என்று வீட்டு உரிமையாளருக்குத் தெரிந்திருந்தால் அவர் விழித்திருந்து தம் வீட்டில் கன்னமிட விடமாட்டார் என்பதை அறிவீர்கள். எனவே நீங்களும் ஆயத்தமாய் இருங்கள். ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் நினையாத நேரத்தில் மானிட மகன் வருவார்.

தம் வீட்டு வேலையாள்களுக்கு வேளாவேளை உணவு பரிமாறத் தலைவர் அமர்த்திய நம்பிக்கைக்கு உரியவரும் அறிவாளியுமான பணியாளர் யார்? தலைவர் வந்து பார்க்கும்போது தம் பணியைச் செய்துகொண்டிருப்பவரே அப்பணியாளர். அவர் பேறுபெற்றவர். அவரைத் தம் உடைமைகளுக்கெல்லாம் அதிகாரியாக அவர் அமர்த்துவார் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.

அப்பணியாள் பொல்லாதவனாய் இருந்தால், தன் தலைவர் வரக் காலந் தாழ்த்துவார் எனத் தம் உள்ளத்தில் சொல்லிக் கொண்டு, தன் உடன்பணியாளரை அடிக்கவும் குடிகாரருடன் உண்ணவும் குடிக்கவும் தொடங்குவான். அப்பணியாள் எதிர்பாராத நாளில், அறியாத நேரத்தில் அவனுடைய தலைவர் வருவார். அவர் அவனைக் கண்டந்துண்டமாய் வெட்டி வெளிவேடக்காரருக்கு உரிய இடத்திற்குத் தள்ளுவார். அங்கே அழுகையும் அங்கலாய்ப்பும் இருக்கும்.”

கொரிந்து நகரிலுள்ள கடவுளின் திருச்சபைக்கு அவர் திருவுளத்தால் கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவின் திருத்தூதனாக அழைக்கப்பட்ட பவுலும் சகோதரராகிய சொஸ்தேனும் எழுதுவது: இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவோடு இணைக்கப்பெற்றுத் தூயோராக்கப்பட்டு இறைமக்களாக இருக்க அழைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள உங்களுக்கும், எல்லா இடங்களிலும் நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவை அறிக்கையிடும் யாவருக்கும், நம் தந்தையாம் கடவுளிடமிருந்தும் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவிடமிருந்தும் அருளும் அமைதியும் உரித்தாகுக! இயேசு கிறிஸ்து நமக்கு மட்டும் அல்ல, அனைவருக்கும் ஆண்டவர்.

கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவின் வழியாக நீங்கள் பெற்றுக் கொண்ட இறையருளை முன்னிட்டு உங்களை நினைத்து என் கடவுளுக்கு என்றும் நன்றி செலுத்துகிறேன். ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் கிறிஸ்துவுடன் இணைக்கப்பெற்றுச் சொல்வன்மையும் நிறையறிவும் பெற்று, எல்லா வகையிலும் செல்வர்கள் ஆனீர்கள். மேலும் கிறிஸ்துவைப் பற்றிய சான்று உங்களால் உறுதிப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்து வெளிப்படுவதற்காகக் காத்திருக்கும் உங்களுக்கு அருட்கொடை எதிலும் குறையே இல்லை. நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்து வெளிப்படும் நாளில் நீங்கள் குறைச் சொல்லுக்கு ஆளாகாதிருக்க அவர் உங்களை இறுதிவரை உறுதிப்படுத்துவார். கடவுள் நம்பிக்கைக்கு உரியவர்; தம் மகனும் நம் ஆண்டவருமாகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் நட்புறவில் பங்கு பெற உங்களை அவர் அழைத்துள்ளார்.

You are the sons of those who murdered the prophets.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 23:27-32 

Jesus said: ‘Alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You who are like whitewashed tombs that look handsome on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of corruption. In the same way you appear to people from the outside like good honest men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

  ‘Alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You who build the sepulchres of the prophets and decorate the tombs of holy men, saying, “We would never have joined in shedding the blood of the prophets, had we lived in our fathers’ day.” So! Your own evidence tells against you! You are the sons of those who murdered the prophets! Very well then, finish off the work that your fathers began.’
