Jesus multiplies the bread and shows that he is the Lord. 

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark 6:34-44 

So as he stepped ashore he saw a large crowd; and he took pity on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he set himself to teach them at some length.

By now it was getting very late, and his disciples came up to him and said, 'This is a lonely place and it is getting very late,

so send them away, and they can go to the farms and villages round about, to buy themselves something to eat.'

He replied, 'Give them something to eat yourselves.' They answered, 'Are we to go and spend two hundred denarii on bread for them to eat?'

He asked, 'How many loaves have you? Go and see.' And when they had found out they said, 'Five, and two fish.'

Then he ordered them to get all the people to sit down in groups on the green grass,

and they sat down on the ground in squares of hundreds and fifties.

Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven and said the blessing; then he broke the loaves and began handing them to his disciples to distribute among the people. He also shared out the two fish among them all.

They all ate as much as they wanted.

They collected twelve basketfuls of scraps of bread and pieces of fish.

Those who had eaten the loaves numbered five thousand men.

he will judge the poor of the people, he will save the children of the needy and crush their oppressors. 

In his days uprightness shall flourish, and peace in plenty till the moon is no more.

His empire shall stretch from sea to sea, from the river to the limits of the earth.

God is loving. 

A Reading from the Book of 1 John 4:7-10 

My dear friends, let us love one another, since love is from God and everyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.

Whoever fails to love does not know God, because God is love.

This is the revelation of God's love for us, that God sent his only Son into the world that we might have life through him.

Love consists in this: it is not we who loved God, but God loved us and sent his Son to expiate our sins.

இயேசு அப்பம் பெருகச் செய்து, தாம் இறைவாக்கினர் எனக் காட்டுகிறார்.

அக்காலத்தில் இயேசு படகிலிருந்து கலிலேயா கடற்கரையில் இறங்கியபோது பெருந்திரளான மக்களைக் கண்டார். அவர்கள் ஆயரில்லா ஆடுகளைப்போல் இருந்ததால் அவர்கள் மீது பரிவு கொண்டு, அவர்களுக்குப் பலவற்றைக் கற்பித்தார். இதற்குள் நெடு நேரமாகிவிடவே, சீடர் அவரிடம் வந்து, இவ்விடம் பாலைநிலம் ஆயிற்றே, ஏற்கெனவே நெடுநேரம் ஆகிவிட்டது. சுற்றிலுமுள்ள பட்டிகளுக்கும் ஊர்களுக்கும் சென்று உண்பதற்கு ஏதாவது அவர்களே வாங்கிக் கொள்ளுமாறு நீர் மக்களை அனுப்பிவிடும்'' என்றனர். அவர் அவர்களிடம், நீங்களே அவர்களுக்கு உணவு கொடுங்கள்'' என்று பதிலளித்தார். அவர்கள், நாங்கள் போய் இருநூறு தெனாரியத்திற்கு அப்பம் வாங்கி இவர்களுக்கு உண்ணக் கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்கிறீரா?'' என்று கேட்டார்கள். அப்பொழுது அவர், உங்களிடம் எத்தனை அப்பங்கள் இருக்கின்றன? போய்ப் பாருங்கள்'' என்று கூற, அவர்களும் பார்த்துவிட்டு, ஐந்து அப்பங்களும் இரண்டு மீன்களும் உள்ளன'' என்றார்கள். அவர் எல்லாரையும் பசும்புல் தரையில் அமரச் செய்யும்படி சீடர்களைப் பணித்தார். மக்கள் நூறு பேராகவும், ஐம்பது பேராகவும் வரிசை வரிசையாய் அமர்ந்தனர். அவர் அந்த ஐந்து அப்பங்களையும் இரண்டு மீன்களையும் எடுத்து, வானத்தை அண்ணாந்து பார்த்து, கடவுளைப் போற்றி, அப்பங்களைப் பிட்டு, அவர்களுக்குப் பரிமாறுவதற்காகத் தம் சீடரிடம் கொடுத்தார். அவ்வாறே அந்த இரு மீன்களையும் எல்லாருக்கும் பகிர்ந்தளித்தார். அனைவரும் வயிறார உண்டனர். பின் எஞ்சிய அப்பத் துண்டுகளையும் மீன் துண்டுகளையும் பன்னிரண்டு கூடைகள் நிறைய எடுத்தனர். அப்பம் உண்ட ஆண்களின் தொகை ஐயாயிரம். 

இது கிறிஸ்து வழங்கும் நற்செய்தி.

கடவுளே, அரசருக்கு உமது நீதித்தீர்ப்பை வழங்கும் ஆற்றலை அளியும்;

அரச மைந்தரிடம் உமது நீதி விளங்கச் செய்யும்.

அவர் உம் மக்களை நீதியோடு ஆள்வாராக!

உம்முடையவரான எளியோர்க்கு நீதித்தீர்ப்பு வழங்குவாராக! -பல்லவி 

மலைகள் மக்களுக்குச் சமாதானத்தைக் கொடுக்கட்டும்;

குன்றுகள் நீதியை விளைவிக்கட்டும்.

ஒரு கடலிலிருந்து அடுத்த கடல்வரைக்கும் அவர் ஆட்சி செலுத்துவார்;

பேராற்றிலிருந்து உலகின் எல்லை வரைக்கும் அவர் அரசாள்வார். -பல்லவி

அல்லேலூயா, அல்லேலூயா! ஏழைகளுக்கு நற்செய்தியை அறிவிக்கவும், சிறைப்பட்டோர் விடுதலை அடைவர் என முழக்கமிட்டு அறிவிக்கவும் ஆண்டவர் என்னை அனுப்பியுள்ளார்.'' அல்லேலூயா.

முதல் வாசகம் 

கடவுள் அன்பாய் இருக்கிறார். 

திருத்தூதர் யோவான் எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 4: 7-10 

அன்பார்ந்தவர்களே, ஒருவர் மற்றவரிடம் அன்பு செலுத்துவோமாக! ஏனெனில் அன்பு கடவுளிடமிருந்து வருகிறது. அன்பு செலுத்தும் அனைவரும் கடவுளிடமிருந்து பிறந்தவர்கள். அவர்கள் கடவுளை அறிந்துள்ளார்கள். அன்பில்லாதோர் கடவுளை அறிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை; ஏனெனில், கடவுள் அன்பாய் இருக்கிறார். 

நாம் வாழ்வு பெறும் பொருட்டுக் கடவுள் தம் ஒரே மகனை உலகிற்கு அனுப்பினார். இதனால் கடவுள் நம்மீது வைத்த அன்பு வெளிப்பட்டது. நாம் கடவுள் மீது அன்பு கொண்டுள்ளோம் என்பதில் அல்ல, மாறாக அவர் நம்மீது அன்புகொண்டு தம் மகனை நம் பாவங்களுக்குக் கழுவாயாக அனுப்பினார் என்பதில்தான் அன்பின் தன்மை விளங்குகிறது. 

இது ஆண்டவர் வழங்கும் அருள்வாக்கு.

The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 4:12-17, 23-25 

Hearing that John had been arrested he withdrew to Galilee,

and leaving Nazara he went and settled in Capernaum, beside the lake, on the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali.

This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:

Land of Zebulun! Land of Naphtali! Way of the sea beyond Jordan. Galilee of the nations!

The people that lived in darkness have seen a great light; on those who lived in a country of shadow dark as death a light has dawned.

From then onwards Jesus began his proclamation with the message, 'Repent, for the kingdom of Heaven is close at hand.'

He went round the whole of Galilee teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing all kinds of disease and illness among the people.

His fame spread throughout Syria, and those who were suffering from diseases and painful complaints of one kind or another, the possessed, epileptics, the paralysed, were all brought to him, and he cured them.

Large crowds followed him, coming from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judaea and Transjordan.
