தாவீதின் மகனும் ஆபிரகாமின் மகனுமான இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் மூதாதையர் பட்டியல்:

ஆபிரகாமின் மகன் ஈசாக்கு; ஈசாக்கின் மகன் யாக்கோபு; யாக்கோபின் புதல்வர்கள் யூதாவும் அவர் சகோதரர்களும். யூதாவுக்கும் தாமாருக்கும் பிறந்த புதல்வர்கள் பெரேட்சும் செராகும்; பெரேட்சின் மகன் எட்சரோன்; எட்சரோனின் மகன் இராம். இராமின் மகன் அம்மினதாபு; அம்மினதாபின் மகன் நகசோன்; நகசோனின் மகன் சல்மோன். சல்மோனுக்கும் இராகாபுக்கும் பிறந்த மகன் போவாசு; போவாசுக்கும் ரூத்துக்கும் பிறந்த மகன் ஓபேது; ஓபேதின் மகன் ஈசாய். ஈசாயின் மகன் தாவீது அரசர்.

தாவீதுக்கு உரியாவின் மனைவியிடம் பிறந்த மகன் சாலமோன். சாலமோனின் மகன் ரெகபயாம்; ரெகபயாமின் மகன் அபியாம்; அபியாமின் மகன் ஆசா. ஆசாவின் மகன் யோசபாத்து; யோசபாத்தின் மகன் யோராம்; யோராமின் மகன் உசியா. உசியாவின் மகன் யோத்தாம்; யோத்தாமின் மகன் ஆகாசு; ஆகாசின் மகன் எசேக்கியா. எசேக்கியாவின் மகன் மனாசே; மனாசேயின் மகன் ஆமோன்; ஆமோனின் மகன் யோசியா. யோசியாவின் புதல்வர்கள் எக்கோனியாவும் அவர் சகோதரர்களும். இவர்கள் காலத்தில்தான் யூதர்கள் பாபிலோனுக்குச் சிறைப்பிடித்துச் செல்லப்பட்டார்கள்.

பாபிலோனுக்குச் சிறைப்பிடித்துச் செல்லப்பட்ட பின்பு எக்கோனியாவுக்குப் பிறந்த மகன் செயல்தியேல்; செயல்தியேலின் மகன் செருபாபேல். செருபாபேலின் மகன் அபியூது; அபியூதின் மகன் எலியாக்கிம்; எலியாக்கிமின் மகன் அசோர். அசோரின் மகன் சாதோக்கு; சாதோக்கின் மகன் ஆக்கிம்; ஆக்கிமின் மகன் எலியூது. எலியூதின் மகன் எலயாசர்; எலயாசரின் மகன் மாத்தான்; மாத்தானின் மகன் யாக்கோபு. யாக்கோபின் மகன் மரியாவின் கணவர் யோசேப்பு. மரியாவிடம் பிறந்தவரே கிறிஸ்து என்னும் இயேசு.

யாக்கோபு தம் புதல்வர்களை வரவழைத்துக் கூறியது: என்னைச் சுற்றி நில்லுங்கள். வரவிருக்கும் நாள்களில் உங்களுக்கு நிகழ இருப்பதை நான் அறிவிக்கப்போகிறேன். கூடிவந்து உற்றுக்கேளுங்கள்; யாக்கோபின் புதல்வர்களே! உங்கள் தந்தையாகிய இஸ்ரயேலுக்குச் செவிகொடுங்கள்.

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David the king. A Reading from the Book of Genesis 49: 2,8-10 

In those days: Jacob called his sons, and said, “Assemble and listen, O sons of Jacob, listen to Israel your father. Judah, your brothers shall praise you; your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons shall bow down before you. Judah is a lion’s cub; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down; he crouched as a lion and as a lioness; who dares rouse him? The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.”

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தலைமைக் குருக்களையும் மக்களின் மூப்பர்களையும் நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியைப்பற்றி நீங்கள் என்ன நினைக்கிறீர்கள்? ஒரு மனிதருக்கு இரு புதல்வர்கள் இருந்தார்கள். அவர் மூத்தவரிடம் போய், ‘மகனே, நீ இன்று திராட்சைத் தோட்டத்திற்குச் சென்று வேலை செய்’ என்றார். அவர் மறுமொழியாக, ‘நான் போக விரும்பவில்லை’ என்றார். ஆனால் பிறகு தம் எண்ணத்தை மாற்றிக்கொண்டு போய் வேலை செய்தார். அவர் அடுத்த மகனிடமும் போய் அப்படியே சொன்னார். அவர் மறுமொழியாக, ‘நான் போகிறேன் ஐயா!’ என்றார்; ஆனால் போகவில்லை. இவ்விருவருள் எவர் தந்தையின் விருப்பப்படி செயல்பட்டவர்?” என்று கேட்டார். அவர்கள் “மூத்தவரே” என்று விடையளித்தனர்.

இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “வரிதண்டுவோரும் விலைமகளிரும் உங்களுக்கு முன்பாகவே இறையாட்சிக்கு உட்படுவர் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். ஏனெனில் யோவான் நீதிநெறியைக் காட்ட உங்களிடம் வந்தார். நீங்களோ அவரை நம்பவில்லை. மாறாக வரிதண்டுவோரும் விலைமகளிரும் அவரை நம்பினர். அவர்களைப் பார்த்த பின்பும் நீங்கள் உங்கள் எண்ணத்தை மாற்றிக்கொள்ளவும் இல்லை; அவரை நம்பவும் இல்லை” என்றார்.
