*A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 19:41-44*

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

3 they shall dance in praise of his name, play to him on tambourines and harp! 

4 For Yahweh loves his people, he will crown the humble with salvation. 

5 The faithful exult in glory, shout for joy as they worship him, 

6 praising God to the heights with their voices, a two-edged sword in their hands, 

9 to execute on them the judgement passed -- to the honour of all his faithful.

_Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed, and so he will open the scroll and its seven seals.'_

*Revelation 5:1-10*

I saw that in the right hand of the One sitting on the throne there was a scroll that was written on back and front and was sealed with seven seals.Then I saw a powerful angel who called with a loud voice, 'Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?' But there was no one, in heaven or on the earth or under the earth, who was able to open the scroll and read it. I wept bitterly because nobody could be found to open the scroll and read it, but one of the elders said to me, 'Do not weep. Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed, and so he will open the scroll and its seven seals.' Then I saw, in the middle of the throne with its four living creatures and the circle of the elders, a Lamb standing that seemed to have been sacrificed; it had seven horns, and it had seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits that God has sent out over the whole world. The Lamb came forward to take the scroll from the right hand of the One sitting on the throne, and when he took it, the four living creatures prostrated themselves before him and with them the twenty-four elders; each one of them was holding a harp and had a golden bowl full of incense which are the prayers of the saints. They sang a new hymn: You are worthy to take the scroll and to break its seals, because you were sacrificed, and with your blood you bought people for God of every race, language, people and nation and made them a line of kings and priests for God, to rule the world.

It is a blessing from the Lord.

அக்காலத்தில் இயேசு எருசலேம் நகரை நெருங்கி வந்ததும் கோவிலைப் பார்த்து அழுதார். ``இந்த நாளிலாவது அமைதிக்குரிய வழியை நீ அறிந்திருக்கக் கூடாதா? ஆனால் இப்போது அது உன் கண்களுக்கு மறைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஒரு காலம் வரும். அப்போது உன் பகைவர்கள் உன்னைச் சுற்றி அரண் எழுப்பி, உன்னை முற்றுகையிடுவார்கள்; உன்னையும் உன்னிடத்திலுள்ள உன் மக்களையும் எப்பக்கத்திலுமிருந்து நெருக்கி அழித்து உன்னைத் தரைமட்டமாக்குவார்கள்; மேலும் உன்னிடம் கற்கள் ஒன்றின்மீது ஒன்று இராதபடி செய்வார்கள். ஏனெனில் கடவுள் உன்னைத் தேடி வந்த காலத்தை நீ அறிந்து கொள்ளவில்லை'' என்றார்.

1 ஆண்டவருக்குப் புதியதொரு பாடலைப் பாடுங்கள்;

அவருடைய அன்பர் சபையில் அவரது புகழைப் பாடுங்கள்.

2 இஸ்ரயேல் தன்னை உண்டாக்கினவரைக் குறித்து மகிழ்ச்சி கொள்வதாக!

சீயோனின் மக்கள் தம் அரசரை முன்னிட்டுக் களிகூர்வார்களாக! -பல்லவி

3 நடனம் செய்து அவரது பெயரைப் போற்றுவார்களாக;

மத்தளம் கொட்டி, யாழிசைத்து அவரைப் புகழ்ந்து பாடுவார்களாக!

4 ஆண்டவர் தம் மக்கள் மீது விருப்பம் கொள்கின்றார்;

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, அரியணையில் வீற்றிருந்தவரது வலக் கையில் ஒரு சுருளேட்டைக் கண்டேன். அதில் உள்ளும் புறமும் எழுதியிருந்தது; அது ஏழு முத்திரை பொறிக்கப்பெற்று மூடப்பட்டிருந்தது. ``முத்திரைகளை உடைத்து, ஏட்டைப் பிரிக்கத் தகுதி பெற்றவர் யார்?'' என்று வலிமைமிக்க வானதூதர் ஒருவர் உரத்த குரலில் முழங்கக் கண்டேன். நூலைத் திறந்து படிக்க விண்ணுலகிலோ மண்ணுலகிலோ கீழுலகிலோ இருந்த எவராலும் இயலவில்லை. சுருளேட்டைப் பிரித்துப் படிக்கத் தகுதி பெற்றவர் எவரையும் காணவில்லையே என்று நான் தேம்பி அழுதேன். அப்பொழுது மூப்பருள் ஒருவர் என்னிடம், ``அழாதே, யூதா குலத்தின் சிங்கமும் தாவீதின் குலக்கொழுந்துமானவர் வெற்றி பெற்றுவிட்டார்; அவர் அந்த ஏழு முத்திரைகளையும் உடைத்து ஏட்டைப் பிரித்துவிடுவார்'' என்று கூறினார். அந்த நான்கு உயிர்களும் மூப்பர்களும் புடை சூழ, அரியணை நடுவில் ஆட்டுக்குட்டி ஒன்று நிற்கக் கண்டேன். கொல்லப்பட்டதுபோல் அது காணப்பட்டது. அதற்கு ஏழு கொம்புகளும் ஏழு கண்களும் இருந்தன. அக்கண்கள் மண்ணுலகெங்கும் அனுப்பப்பெற்ற கடவுளின் ஏழு ஆவிகளே. ஆட்டுக்குட்டி முன்சென்று, அரியணையில் வீற்றிருந்தவரின் வலக் கையிலிருந்து அந்த ஏட்டை எடுத்தது. அப்பொழுது அந்த நான்கு உயிர்களும் இருபத்து நான்கு மூப்பர்களும் ஆட்டுக்குட்டிமுன் வீழ்ந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் யாழும், சாம்பிராணி நிறைந்த பொற்கிண்ணங்களும் வைத்திருந்தார்கள். இறைமக்களின் வேண்டுதல்களே அக்கிண்ணங்கள். அவர்கள் புதியதொரு பாடலைப் பாடிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்: ``ஏட்டை எடுக்கவும் அதன் முத்திரைகளை உடைத்துப் பிரிக்கவும் தகுதி பெற்றவர் நீரே. நீர் கொல்லப்பட்டீர்; உமது இரத்தத்தால் குலம், மொழி, நாடு, மக்களினம் ஆகிய அனைத்தினின்றும் மக்களைக் கடவுளுக்கென்று விலை கொடுத்து மீட்டுக்கொண்டீர். ஆட்சியுரிமை பெற்றவர்களாகவும் குருக்களாகவும் அவர்களை எங்கள் கடவுளுக்காக ஏற்படுத்தினீர். அவர்கள் மண்ணுலகின்மீது ஆட்சி செலுத்துவார்கள்.''

While the people were listening, Jesus went on to tell a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and they imagined that the kingdom of God was going to show itself then and there. Accordingly he said, ‘A man of noble birth went to a distant country to be appointed king and afterwards return. He summoned ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds. “Do business with these” he told them “until I get back.” But his compatriots detested him and sent a delegation to follow him with this message, “We do not want this man to be our king.”

  ‘Now on his return, having received his appointment as king, he sent for those servants to whom he had given the money, to find out what profit each had made. The first came in and said, “Sir, your one pound has brought in ten.” “Well done, my good servant!” he replied “Since you have proved yourself faithful in a very small thing, you shall have the government of ten cities.” Then came the second and said, “Sir, your one pound has made five.” To this one also he said, “And you shall be in charge of five cities.” Next came the other and said, “Sir, here is your pound. I put it away safely in a piece of linen because I was afraid of you; for you are an exacting man: you pick up what you have not put down and reap what you have not sown.” “You wicked servant!” he said “Out of your own mouth I condemn you. So you knew I was an exacting man, picking up what I have not put down and reaping what I have not sown? Then why did you not put my money in the bank? On my return I could have drawn it out with interest.” And he said to those standing by, “Take the pound from him and give it to the man who has ten pounds.” And they said to him, “But, sir, he has ten pounds…”. “I tell you, to everyone who has will be given more; but from the man who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

  ‘“But as for my enemies who did not want me for their king, bring them here and execute them in my presence.”’

  When he had said this he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
