இறைவாக்கினர் எவரும் தம் சொந்த ஊரில் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்படுவதில்லை.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தாம் வளர்ந்த ஊராகிய நாசரேத்துக்கு வந்தார். தமது வழக்கத்தின்படி ஓய்வு நாளில் தொழுகைக்கூடத்திற்குச் சென்று வாசிக்க எழுந்தார். இறைவாக்கினர் எசாயாவின் சுருளேடு அவரிடம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. அவர் அதைப் பிரித்தபோது கண்ட பகுதியில் இவ்வாறு எழுதியிருந்தது:

“ஆண்டவருடைய ஆவி என்மேல் உளது; ஏனெனில், அவர் எனக்கு அருள்பொழிவு செய்துள்ளார். ஏழைகளுக்கு நற்செய்தியை அறிவிக்கவும் சிறைப்பட்டோர் விடுதலை அடைவர், பார்வையற்றோர் பார்வை பெறுவர் என முழக்கமிடவும் ஒடுக்கப்பட்டோரை விடுதலை செய்து அனுப்பவும் ஆண்டவர் அருள்தரும் ஆண்டினை முழக்கமிட்டு அறிவிக்கவும் அவர் என்னை அனுப்பியுள்ளார்.” பின்னர் அந்த ஏட்டைச் சுருட்டி ஏவலரிடம் கொடுத்து விட்டு அமர்ந்தார். தொழுகைக்கூடத்தில் இருந்தவர்களின் கண்கள் அனைத்தும் அவரையே உற்று நோக்கியிருந்தன.

அப்பொழுது அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “நீங்கள் கேட்ட இந்த மறைநூல் வாக்கு இன்று நிறைவேறிற்று” என்றார். அவர் வாயிலிருந்து வந்த அருள்மொழிகளைக் கேட்டு வியப்புற்று, “இவர் யோசேப்பின் மகன் அல்லவா?” எனக் கூறி எல்லாரும் அவரைப் பாராட்டினர்.

அவர் அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் என்னிடம், ‘மருத்துவரே, உம்மையே நீர் குணமாக்கிக்கொள்ளும்’ என்னும் பழமொழியைச் சொல்லி, ‘கப்பர்நாகுமில் நீர் செய்ததாக நாங்கள் கேள்விப்பட்டவற்றை எல்லாம் உம் சொந்த ஊராகிய இவ்விடத்திலும் செய்யும்’ எனக் கண்டிப்பாய்க் கூறுவீர்கள்.

ஆனால் நான் உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். இறைவாக்கினர் எவரும் தம் சொந்த ஊரில் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்படுவதில்லை. உண்மையாக நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: எலியாவின் காலத்தில் மூன்றரை ஆண்டுகளாக வானம் பொய்த்தது; நாடெங்கும் பெரும் பஞ்சம் உண்டானது. அக்காலத்தில் இஸ்ரயேலரிடையே கைம்பெண்கள் பலர் இருந்தனர்; ஆயினும் அவர்களுள் எவரிடமும் எலியா அனுப்பப்படவில்லை; சீதோனைச் சேர்ந்த சாரிபாத்தில் வாழ்ந்த ஒரு கைம்பெண்ணிடமே அனுப்பப்பட்டார். மேலும், இறைவாக்கினர் எலிசாவின் காலத்தில் இஸ்ரயேலரிடையே தொழுநோயாளர்கள் பலர் இருந்தனர்; ஆயினும் அவர்களுள் எவருக்கும் நோய் நீங்கவில்லை. சிரியாவைச் சார்ந்த நாமானுக்கே நோய் நீங்கியது” என்றார்.

தொழுகைக்கூடத்தில் இருந்த யாவரும் இவற்றைக் கேட்டபோது, சீற்றங்கொண்டனர்; அவர்கள் எழுந்து, அவரை ஊருக்கு வெளியே துரத்தி, அவ்வூரில் அமைந்திருந்த மலை உச்சியிலிருந்து கீழே தள்ளிவிட இழுத்துச் சென்றனர். அவர் அவர்கள் நடுவே நடந்து சென்று அங்கிருந்து போய்விட்டார்.

அக்காலத்தில்

ஓய்வு நாள் ஒன்றில் இயேசு பரிசேயர் தலைவர் ஒருவருடைய வீட்டிற்கு உணவருந்தச் சென்றிருந்தார். அங்கிருந்தோர் அவரைக் கூர்ந்து கவனித்தனர்.

விருந்தினர்கள் பந்தியில் முதன்மையான இடங்களைத் தேர்ந்து கொண்டதை நோக்கிய இயேசு அவர்களுக்குக் கூறிய அறிவுரை: “ஒருவர் உங்களைத் திருமண விருந்துக்கு அழைத்திருந்தால், பந்தியில் முதன்மையான இடத்தில் அமராதீர்கள். ஒருவேளை உங்களை விட மதிப்பிற்குரிய ஒருவரையும் அவர் அழைத்திருக்கலாம். உங்களையும் அவரையும் அழைத்தவர் வந்து உங்களிடத்தில், ‘இவருக்கு இடத்தை விட்டுக்கொடுங்கள்’ என்பார். அப்பொழுது நீங்கள் வெட்கத்தோடு கடைசி இடத்திற்குப் போக வேண்டியிருக்கும். நீங்கள் அழைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்போது, போய்க் கடைசி இடத்தில் அமருங்கள். அப்பொழுது உங்களை அழைத்தவர் வந்து உங்களிடம், ‘நண்பரே, முதல் இடத்திற்கு வாரும்’ எனச் சொல்லும்பொழுது உங்களுடன் பந்தியில் அமர்ந்திருப்பவர்கள் யாவருக்கும் முன்பாக நீங்கள் பெருமை அடைவீர்கள். தம்மைத் தாமே உயர்த்துவோர் யாவரும் தாழ்த்தப்பெறுவர்; தம்மைத் தாமே தாழ்த்துவோர் உயர்த்தப் பெறுவர்."

பிறகு தம்மை விருந்துக்கு அழைத்தவரிடம் இயேசு, “நீர் பகல் உணவோ இரவு உணவோ அளிக்கும்போது உம் நண்பர்களையோ, சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளையோ, உறவினர்களையோ, செல்வம் படைத்த அண்டை வீட்டாரையோ அழைக்க வேண்டாம். அவ்வாறு அழைத்தால் அவர்களும் உம்மைத் திரும்ப அழைக்கலாம். அப்பொழுது அதுவே உமக்குக் கைம்மாறு ஆகிவிடும். மாறாக, நீர் விருந்து அளிக்கும்போது ஏழைகளையும் உடல் ஊனமுற்றோரையும் கால் ஊனமுற்றோரையும் பார்வையற்றோரையும் அழையும். அப்போது நீர் பேறுபெற்றவர் ஆவீர். ஏனென்றால் உமக்குக் கைம்மாறு செய்ய அவர்களிடம் ஒன்றுமில்லை. நேர்மையாளர்கள் உயிர்த்தெழும்போது உமக்குக் கைம்மாறு கிடைக்கும்” என்று கூறினார்.

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

நீங்கள் வந்து சேர்ந்திருக்கும் சீயோன் மலை, வாழும் கடவுளின் நகர்.

எபிரேயருக்கு எழுதப்பட்ட திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 12: 18-19, 22-24a

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

நீங்கள் வந்து சேர்ந்திருப்பது தொட்டுணரக்கூடிய, தீப்பற்றியெரிகின்ற, இருள் சூழ்ந்த, மந்தாரமான, சுழல் காற்று வீசுகின்ற சீனாய் மலை அல்ல. அங்கு எக்காளம் முழங்கிற்று; பேசும் குரலொன்று கேட்டது. அக்குரலைக் கேட்டவர்கள் அதற்குமேல் தங்களோடு அது ஒரு வார்த்தை கூடப் பேசவேண்டாம் என்று கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்கள்.

ஆனால் நீங்கள் வந்து சேர்ந்திருக்கும் சீயோன் மலை வாழும் கடவுளின் நகர்; விண்ணக எருசலேம். அதனைப் பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கான வானதூதர் சூழ்ந்துள்ளனர். விண்ணகத்தில் பெயர் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ள தலைப்பேறானவர்களின் திருச்சபை விழாக் கூட்டமென அங்கே கூடியுள்ளது. நிறைவு பெற்ற நேர்மையாளர்களோடு சேர்ந்து, அனைவருக்கும் நடுவரான கடவுள் முன்னிலையிலும், புதியதோர் உடன்படிக்கையின் இணைப்பாளராகிய இயேசுவின் முன்னிலையிலும் நிற்கிறீர்கள்.

குழந்தாய், நீ செய்வது அனைத்தையும் பணிவோடு செய்; அவ்வாறாயின், கடவுளுக்கு உகந்தோர் உனக்கு அன்பு காட்டுவர். நீ பெரியவனாய் இருக்குமளவுக்குப் பணிந்து நட. அப்போது ஆண்டவர் முன்னிலையில் உனக்குப் பரிவு கிட்டும். ஆண்டவரின் ஆற்றல் பெரிது; ஆயினும், தாழ்ந்தோரால் அவர் மாட்சி பெறுகின்றார்.

இறுமாப்புக் கொண்டோரின் நோய்க்கு மருந்து இல்லை; ஏனெனில் தீமை அவர்களுள் வேரூன்றிவிட்டது. நுண்ணறிவாளர் உவமைகளைப் புரிந்து கொள்வர்; ஞானிகள் கேட்டறியும் ஆவல் மிக்கவர்கள்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடருக்குக் கூறிய உவமை: “விண்ணரசைப் பின்வரும் நிகழ்ச்சி வாயிலாகவும் விளக்கலாம்; நெடும் பயணம் செல்லவிருந்த ஒருவர் தம் பணியாளர்களை அழைத்து அவர்களிடம் தம் உடைமைகளை ஒப்படைத்தார். அவரவர் திறமைக்கு ஏற்ப ஒருவருக்கு ஐந்து தாலந்தும் வேறொருவருக்கு இரண்டு தாலந்தும் இன்னொருவருக்கு ஒரு தாலந்தும் கொடுத்துவிட்டு நெடும் பயணம் மேற்கொண்டார். ஐந்து தாலந்தைப் பெற்றவர் போய் அவற்றைக் கொண்டு வாணிகம் செய்து வேறு ஐந்து தாலந்து ஈட்டினார். அவ்வாறே இரண்டு தாலந்து பெற்றவர் மேலும் இரண்டு தாலந்து ஈட்டினார். ஒரு தாலந்து பெற்றவரோ போய் நிலத்தைத் தோண்டித் தம் தலைவரின் பணத்தைப் புதைத்து வைத்தார்.

நெடுங்காலத்திற்குப் பின் அந்தப் பணியாளர்களின் தலைவர் வந்து அவர்களிடம் கணக்குக் கேட்டார்.

ஐந்து தாலந்து பெற்றவர் அவரை அணுகி, வேறு ஐந்து தாலந்தைக் கொண்டு வந்து, ‘ஐயா, ஐந்து தாலந்தை என்னிடம் ஒப்படைத்தீர்; இதோ பாரும், இன்னும் ஐந்து தாலந்தை ஈட்டியுள்ளேன்’ என்றார். அதற்கு அவருடைய தலைவர் அவரிடம், ‘நன்று, நம்பிக்கைக்குரிய நல்ல பணியாளரே, சிறிய பொறுப்புகளில் நம்பிக்கைக்கு உரியவராய் இருந்தீர். எனவே பெரிய பொறுப்புகளில் உம்மை அமர்த்துவேன். உம் தலைவனாகிய என் மகிழ்ச்சியில் நீரும் வந்து பங்கு கொள்ளும்’ என்றார்.

ஒரு தாலந்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டவரும் அவரை அணுகி, ‘ஐயா, நீர் கடின உள்ளத்தினர்; நீர் விதைக்காத இடத்திலும் போய் அறுவடை செய்பவர்; நீர் தூவாத இடத்திலும் விளைச்சலைச் சேகரிப்பவர் என்பதை அறிவேன். உமக்கு அஞ்சியதால் நான் போய் உம்முடைய தாலந்தை நிலத்தில் புதைத்து வைத்தேன். இதோ, பாரும், உம்முடையது’ என்றார்.

அதற்கு அவருடைய தலைவர், ‘சோம்பேறியே! பொல்லாத பணியாளனே, நான் விதைக்காத இடத்திலும் போய் அறுவடை செய்பவன். நான் தூவாத இடத்திலும் போய்ச் சேகரிப்பவன் என்பது உனக்குத் தெரிந்திருந்தது அல்லவா? அப்படியானால் என் பணத்தை நீ வட்டிக் கடையில் கொடுத்து வைத்திருக்க வேண்டும். நான் வரும்போது எனக்கு வரவேண்டியதை வட்டியோடு திரும்பப் பெற்றிருப்பேன்’ என்று கூறினார். ‘எனவே அந்தத் தாலந்தை அவனிடமிருந்து எடுத்துப் பத்துத் தாலந்து உடையவரிடம் கொடுங்கள். ஏனெனில் உள்ளவர் எவருக்கும் கொடுக்கப்படும். அவர்கள் நிறைவாகப் பெறுவர். இல்லாதோரிடமிருந்து அவரிடமுள்ளதும் எடுக்கப்படும். பயனற்ற இந்தப் பணியாளைப் புறம்பேயுள்ள இருளில் தள்ளுங்கள். அங்கே அழுகையும் அங்கலாய்ப்பும் இருக்கும்’ என்று அவர் கூறினார்.”

அக்காலத்தில்

ஏரோது, தன் சகோதரனான பிலிப்பின் மனைவி ஏரோதியாவை மனைவியாக்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தான்; அவள் பொருட்டு ஆள் அனுப்பி யோவானைப் பிடித்துக் கட்டிச் சிறையில் அடைத்திருந்தான்.

ஏனெனில் யோவான் ஏரோதிடம், “உம் சகோதரர் மனைவியை நீர் வைத்திருப்பது முறை அல்ல” எனச் சொல்லி வந்தார். அப்போது ஏரோதியா அவர்மீது காழ்ப்புணர்வு கொண்டு, அவரைக் கொலை செய்ய விரும்பினாள்; ஆனால் அவளால் இயலவில்லை. ஏனெனில் யோவான் நேர்மையும் தூய்மையும் உள்ளவர் என்பதை ஏரோது அறிந்து அஞ்சி அவருக்குப் பாதுகாப்பு அளித்துவந்தான். அவர் சொல்லைக் கேட்டு மிகக் குழப்பமுற்ற போதிலும், அவருக்கு மனமுவந்து செவிசாய்த்தான்.

ஒரு நாள் ஏரோதியாவுக்கு நல்ல வாய்ப்பு ஒன்று கிடைத்தது. ஏரோது தன் பிறந்த நாளில் அரசவையினருக்கும், ஆயிரத்தவர் தலைவர்களுக்கும் கலிலேய முதன்மைக் குடிமக்களுக்கும் ஒரு விருந்து படைத்தான்.

அப்போது ஏரோதியாவின் மகள் உள்ளே வந்து நடனமாடி ஏரோதையும் விருந்தினரையும் அகமகிழச் செய்தாள். அரசன் அச்சிறுமியிடம், “உனக்கு என்ன வேண்டுமானாலும் கேள், தருகிறேன்” என்றான். “நீ என்னிடம் எது கேட்டாலும், ஏன் என் அரசில் பாதியையே கேட்டாலும் உனக்குத் தருகிறேன்” என்றும் ஆணையிட்டுக் கூறினான்.

அவள் வெளியே சென்று, “நான் என்ன கேட்கலாம்?” என்று தன் தாயை வினவினாள். அவள், “திருமுழுக்கு யோவானின் தலையைக் கேள்” என்றாள்.

உடனே சிறுமி அரசனிடம் விரைந்து வந்து, “திருமுழுக்கு யோவானின் தலையை ஒரு தட்டில் வைத்து இப்போதே எனக்குக் கொடும்” என்று கேட்டாள்.

இதைக் கேட்ட அரசன் மிக வருந்தினான். ஆனாலும் விருந்தினர் முன் தான் ஆணையிட்டதால் அவளுக்கு அதை மறுக்க விரும்பவில்லை. உடனே அரசன் ஒரு காவலனை அனுப்பி யோவானுடைய தலையைக் கொண்டு வருமாறு பணித்தான். அவன் சென்று சிறையில் அவருடைய தலையை வெட்டி, அதை ஒரு தட்டில் கொண்டு வந்து அச்சிறுமியிடம் கொடுக்க, அவளும் அதைத் தன் தாயிடம் கொடுத்தாள்.

இதைக் கேள்வியுற்ற யோவானுடைய சீடர்கள் வந்து அவருடைய உடலை எடுத்துச் சென்று ஒரு கல்லறையில் வைத்தார்கள்.

For Herod had sent and seized John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Heroʹdi-as, his brother Philip’s wife; because he had married her. For John said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” And Heroʹdi-as had a grudge against him, and wanted to kill him. But she could not, for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he was much perplexed; and yet he heard him gladly. But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his courtiers and officers and the leading men of Galilee. For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like heathen who do not know God; that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we solemnly forewarned you. திருத்தூதர் பவுல் தெசலோனிக்கருக்கு எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 2: 1-8

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே! நாங்கள் உங்களிடம் வந்த நோக்கம் வீணாகவில்லை என்பது உங்களுக்கே தெரியும். உங்களிடம் வருமுன்பே பிலிப்பி நகரில் நாங்கள் துன்புற்றோம், இழிவாக நடத்தப்பட்டோம் என்பது உங்களுக்குத் தெரியும். இருப்பினும் பெரும் எதிர்ப்புக்கிடையில் கடவுளுடைய நற்செய்தியை உங்களுக்கு அறிவிக்க நம் கடவுளிடமிருந்து துணிவு பெற்றோம்.

இயேசு கூறியது: “வெளிவேடக்கார மறைநூல் அறிஞரே, பரிசேயரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! மக்கள் நுழையாதவாறு அவர்கள் முன்பாக விண்ணக வாயிலை அடைத்துவிடுகிறீர்கள்; நீங்கள் நுழைவதில்லை, நுழைவோரையும் விடுவதில்லை.

வெளிவேடக்கார மறைநூல் அறிஞரே, பரிசேயரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஒருவரையாவது உங்கள் சமயத்தில் சேர்ப்பதற்கு, நாடு என்றும் கடல் என்றும் பாராது சுற்றி அலைகின்றீர்கள்; அவ்வாறு சேர்த்தபின் அவரை உங்களை விட இரு மடங்கு நரகத் தண்டனைக்கு ஆளாக்குகிறீர்கள்.

Jesus said:  “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor allow those who would enter to go in. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you traverse sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves. “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If any one swears by the temple, it is nothing; but if any one swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’

You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? A reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the Thessalonians 1:1-5, 8-10 

Paul, Silvaʹnus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessaloʹnians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. We give thanks to God always for you all, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know, brethren beloved by God, that he has chosen you; for our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedoʹnia and Achaʹia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு நகர்கள், ஊர்கள் தோறும் கற்பித்துக் கொண்டே எருசலேம் நோக்கிப் பயணம் செய்தார். அப்பொழுது ஒருவர் அவரிடம், “ஆண்டவரே, மீட்புப் பெறுவோர் சிலர் மட்டும்தானா?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவர் அவர்களிடம் கூறியது:

“இடுக்கமான வாயில் வழியாக நுழைய வருந்தி முயலுங்கள். ஏனெனில் பலர் உள்ளே செல்ல முயன்றும் இயலாமற்போகும். ‘வீட்டு உரிமையாளரே, எழுந்து கதவைத் திறந்துவிடும்’ என்று கேட்பீர்கள். அவரோ, ‘நீங்கள் எங்கிருந்து வந்தவர்கள் என எனக்குத் தெரியாது’ எனப் பதில் கூறுவார். அப்பொழுது நீங்கள், ‘நாங்கள் உம்மோடு உணவு உண்டோம், குடித்தோம். நீர் எங்கள் வீதிகளில் கற்பித்தீரே’ என்று சொல்வீர்கள்.

ஆனாலும் அவர், ‘நீங்கள் எவ்விடத்தாரோ எனக்குத் தெரியாது. தீங்கு செய்வோரே, அனைவரும் என்னை விட்டு அகன்று போங்கள்’ என உங்களிடம் சொல்வார். ஆபிரகாமும் ஈசாக்கும் யாக்கோபும் இறைவாக்கினர் யாவரும் இறையாட்சிக்கு உட்பட்டிருப்பதையும் நீங்கள் புறம்பே தள்ளப்பட்டிருப்பதையும் பார்க்கும்போது அழுது அங்கலாய்ப்பீர்கள். இறையாட்சியின்போது கிழக்கிலும் மேற்கிலும் வடக்கிலும் தெற்கிலுமிருந்து மக்கள் வந்து பந்தியில் அமர்வார்கள்.

ஆம், கடைசியானோர் முதன்மையாவர்; முதன்மையானோர் கடைசியாவர்.”

ஆண்டவர் தாம் யாரிடம் அன்பு கொண்டிருக்கிறாரோ அவர்களைக் கண்டிக்கிறார்.

எபிரேயருக்கு எழுதப்பட்ட திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 12: 5-7, 11-13

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

தம் பிள்ளைகளிடம் பேசுவதுபோல் இறைவன் உங்களுக்குத் தந்த பின்வரும் அறிவுரையை நீங்கள் மறந்துவிட்டீர்கள்: “பிள்ளாய், ஆண்டவர் உன்னைக் கண்டித்துத் திருத்துவதை வேண்டாம் எனத் தள்ளிவிடாதே. அவர் கண்டிக்கும்போது தளர்ந்துபோகாதே. தந்தை தாம் ஏற்றுக் கொண்ட மக்களைத் தண்டிக்கிறார்; ஆண்டவர் தாம் யாரிடம் அன்பு கொண்டிருக்கிறாரோ அவர்களைக் கண்டிக்கிறார்.” திருத்தப்படுவதற்காகத் துன்பங்களைத் தாங்கிக்கொள்ளுங்கள். கடவுள் உங்களைத் தம் பிள்ளைகளாக நடத்துகிறார். தந்தை தண்டித்துத் திருத்தாத பிள்ளை உண்டோ?

இவ்வாறு திருத்தப்படுவது இப்போது மகிழ்ச்சிக்குரியதாய் இராமல், துயரத்துக்குரியதாகவே தோன்றும். ஆனால் பின்னர், இவ்வாறு பயிற்சி பெற்றவர்கள் அமைதியையும் நேர்மையான வாழ்வையும் பயனாகப் பெறுவர். எனவே, “தளர்ந்துபோன கைகளைத் திடப்படுத்துங்கள், தள்ளாடும் முழங்கால்களை உறுதிப்படுத்துங்கள். நீங்கள் நேர்மையான பாதையில் நடந்து செல்லுங்கள்.” அப்போதுதான் ஊனமாய்ப் போன கால்மூட்டு பிசகாமல் குணமடையும்.

A Reading from the Letter to the Hebrews 12:5-7,11-13 

And have you forgotten the exhortation which addresses you as sons?— “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor lose courage when you are punished by him. For the Lord disciplines him whom he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.

“For I know their works and their thoughts, and I am coming to gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and shall see my glory, and I will set a sign among them. And from them I will send survivors to the nations, to Tarshish, Put, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar off, that have not heard my fame or seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations. And they shall bring all your brethren from all the nations as an offering to the LORD, upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the LORD, just as the Israelites bring their cereal offering in a clean vessel to the house of the LORD. And some of them also I will take for priests and for Levites, says the LORD.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு மக்கள் கூட்டத்தையும் தம் சீடரையும் பார்த்துக் கூறியது: “மறைநூல் அறிஞரும் பரிசேயரும் மோசேயின் அதிகாரத்தைக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர். ஆகவே அவர்கள் என்னென்ன செய்யும்படி உங்களிடம் கூறுகிறார்களோ அவற்றையெல்லாம் கடைப்பிடித்து நடந்து வாருங்கள். ஆனால் அவர்கள் செய்வதுபோல நீங்கள் செய்யாதீர்கள். ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் சொல்வார்கள்; செயலில் காட்ட மாட்டார்கள். சுமத்தற்கரிய பளுவான சுமைகளைக் கட்டி மக்களின் தோளில் அவர்கள் வைக்கிறார்கள்; ஆனால் அவர்கள் தங்கள் விரலால் தொட்டு அசைக்கக்கூட முன்வர மாட்டார்கள். தாங்கள் செய்வதெல்லாம் மக்கள் பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்றே அவர்கள் செய்கிறார்கள்; தங்கள் மறைநூல் வாசகப் பட்டைகளை அகலமாக்குகிறார்கள்; அங்கியின் குஞ்சங்களைப் பெரிதாக்குகிறார்கள். விருந்துகளில் முதன்மையான இடங்களையும் தொழுகைக்கூடங்களில் முதன்மையான இருக்கைகளையும் விரும்புகின்றார்கள்; சந்தைவெளிகளில் மக்கள் தங்களுக்கு வணக்கம் செலுத்துவதையும் ரபி என அழைப்பதையும் விரும்புகிறார்கள்.

ஆனால் நீங்கள் ‘ரபி’ என அழைக்கப்பட வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் உங்களுக்குப் போதகர் ஒருவரே. நீங்கள் யாவரும் சகோதரர், சகோதரிகள். இம்மண்ணுலகில் உள்ள எவரையும் தந்தை என நீங்கள் அழைக்க வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் உங்கள் தந்தை ஒருவரே. அவர் விண்ணகத்தில் இருக்கிறார். நீங்கள் ஆசிரியர் எனவும் அழைக்கப்பட வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் கிறிஸ்து ஒருவரே உங்கள் ஆசிரியர்.

உங்களுள் பெரியவர் உங்களுக்குத் தொண்டராக இருக்க வேண்டும். தம்மைத் தாமே உயர்த்துகிறவர் எவரும் தாழ்த்தப்பெறுவர். தம்மைத் தாமே தாழ்த்துகிறவர் எவரும் உயர்த்தப்பெறுவர்.”

நகோமிக்குப் போவாசு என்ற உறவினர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவர் செல்வமும் செல்வாக்கும் உடையவர்; எலிமலேக்கின் வழியில் உறவானவர். ரூத்து நகோமியிடம், “நான் வயலுக்குப் போய், யார் என்னைக் கருணைக் கண்கொண்டு நோக்குவாரோ, அவர் பின்னே சென்று கதிர்களைப் பொறுக்கிக் கொண்டு வருகிறேன். எனக்கு அனுமதி தாரும்” என்றார். அவரும், “போய் வா, மகளே” என்றார். ரூத்து ஒரு வயலுக்குப் போய், அறுவடையாள்கள் பின்னால் சென்று, அவர்கள் சிந்திய கதிர்களைப் பொறுக்கிச் சேர்த்தார். தற்செயலாக, அவர் போயிருந்த அந்த வயல் எலிமலேக்கிற்கு உறவினரான போவாசுக்கு உரியதாய் இருந்தது.

ரூத்து போவாசின் பாதங்களில் வீழ்ந்து வணங்கி, “என்னை ஏன் இவ்வாறு கருணைக் கண்கொண்டு நோக்குகிறீர்? அயல் நாட்டுப் பெண்ணாகிய என்னை ஏன் இவ்வளவு பரிவுடன் நடத்துகிறீர்?” என்று கேட்டார்.

போவாசு, “உன் கணவன் இறந்ததிலிருந்து உன் மாமியாருக்காக நீ செய்துள்ள அனைத்தையும் கேள்விப்பட்டேன். உன் தந்தையையும் தாயையும் சொந்த நாட்டையும் துறந்துவிட்டு, முன்பின் தெரியாத ஓர் இனத்தாருடன் வாழ நீ வந்திருப்பது எனக்குத் தெரியும்” என்றார்.

இவ்வாறு போவாசு தாம் சொன்னபடியே ரூத்தைத் தம் வீட்டுக்கு அழைத்துச்சென்று, அவரை மணந்துகொண்டார். அவர்கள் கூடி வாழ்ந்தபோது, அவர் கருத்தரிக்க ஆண்டவர் அருள்கூர்ந்தார். ரூத்து ஓர் ஆண் மகவைப் பெற்றெடுத்தார்.

ஊர்ப் பெண்கள் நகோமியைப் பார்த்து, “ஆண்டவர் திருப்பெயர் போற்றி! போற்றி! உன்னைக் காக்கும் பொறுப்பினை உடையான் ஒருவனை அவர்தாம் அருளியுள்ளாரே; இஸ்ரயேலில் அவனது பெயரும் புகழுடன் ஓங்கித் திகழுவதாக! புதுவாழ்வு உனக்கு அன்னவன் தருவான்; முதுமையில் உனக்கு அன்னமும் அளிப்பான்; உன்பால் கொண்ட அன்பால், உனக்கு மைந்தர் எழுவரின் மேலாய் விளங்கும், மருமகள் அவனை ஈன்றவள் அன்றோ!” என்று வாழ்த்தினார்கள். நகோமி குழந்தையைக் கையில் எடுத்து மார்போடு அணைத்துக் கொண்டார். அவரே அதைப் பேணி வளர்க்கும் தாயானார்.

சுற்றுப்புறப் பெண்கள். “நகோமிக்கு ஒரு மகன் பிறந்துள்ளான்” என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு ‘ஓபேது’ என்று பெயரிட்டார்கள், அவனே தாவீதின் தந்தையான ஈசாயின் தந்தை.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 23:1-12 

Then said Jesus to the crowds and to his disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; so practice and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do; for they preach, but do not practice. They bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger. They do all their deeds to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues, and salutations in the market places, and being called rabbi by men. But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called masters, for you have one master, the Christ. He who is greatest among you shall be your servant; whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
