இயேசு மக்கள் கூட்டத்தைக் கண்டு மலைமீது ஏறி அமர, அவருடைய சீடர் அவர் அருகே வந்தனர். அவர் திருவாய் மலர்ந்து கற்பித்தவை:

“ஏழையரின் உள்ளத்தோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் விண்ணரசு அவர்களுக்கு உரியது. துயருறுவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் ஆறுதல் பெறுவர். கனிவுடையோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் நாட்டை உரிமைச் சொத்தாக்கிக் கொள்வர். நீதி நிலைநாட்டும் வேட்கை கொண்டோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் நிறைவு பெறுவர். இரக்கமுடையோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் இரக்கம் பெறுவர். தூய்மையான உள்ளத்தோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் கடவுளைக் காண்பர். அமைதி ஏற்படுத்துவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் கடவுளின் மக்கள் என அழைக்கப்படுவர். நீதியின் பொருட்டுத் துன்புறுத்தப்படுவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் விண்ணரசு அவர்களுக்குரியது.

என் பொருட்டு மக்கள் உங்களை இகழ்ந்து, துன்புறுத்தி, உங்களைப் பற்றி இல்லாதவை பொல்லாதவையெல்லாம் சொல்லும்போது நீங்கள் பேறுபெற்றவர்களே! மகிழ்ந்து பேருவகை கொள்ளுங்கள்! ஏனெனில் விண்ணுலகில் உங்களுக்குக் கிடைக்கும் கைம்மாறு மிகுதியாகும்.”

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

நம் தந்தை நம்மிடம் எத்துணை அன்பு கொண்டுள்ளார் என்று பாருங்கள். நாம் கடவுளின் மக்களென அழைக்கப்படுகிறோம்; கடவுளின் மக்களாகவே இருக்கிறோம். உலகம் அவரை அறிந்துகொள்ளாததால்தான் நம்மையும் அறிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை. என் அன்பார்ந்தவர்களே, இப்போது நாம் கடவுளின் பிள்ளைகளாய் இருக்கிறோம். இனி எத்தன்மையராய் இருப்போம் என்பது இன்னும் வெளிப்படவில்லை. ஆனால் அவர் தோன்றும்போது நாமும் அவரைப் போல் இருப்போம்; ஏனெனில் அவர் இருப்பதுபோல் அவரைக் காண்போம். அவரை எதிர்நோக்கி இருக்கிற அனைவரும் அவர் தூயவராய் இருப்பது போல் தம்மையே தூயவராக்க வேண்டும்.

கதிரவன் எழும் திசையிலிருந்து மற்றொரு வானதூதர் எழுந்து வரக் கண்டேன். வாழும் கடவுளின் முத்திரை அவரிடம் இருந்தது. நிலத்தையும் கடலையும் அழிக்க அதிகாரம் பெற்றிருந்த அந்த நான்கு வான தூதர்களையும் அவர் உரத்த குரலில் அழைத்து, “எங்கள் கடவுளுடைய பணியாளர்களின் நெற்றியில் நாங்கள் முத்திரையிடும்வரை நிலத்தையோ கடலையோ மரத்தையோ அழிக்க வேண்டாம்” என்று அவர்களிடம் கூறினார். முத்திரையிடப்பட்டவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கை பற்றிச் சொல்லக் கேட்டேன். இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் குலங்கள் அனைத்திலும் முத்திரையிடப் பட்டவர்கள் ஓர் இலட்சத்து நாற்பத்து நான்கு ஆயிரம்.

இதன்பின் யாராலும் எண்ணிக்கையிட முடியாத பெரும் திரளான மக்களைக் கண்டேன். அவர்கள் எல்லா நாட்டையும் குலத்தையும் மக்களினத்தையும் மொழியையும் சார்ந்தவர்கள்; அரியணைக்கும் ஆட்டுக் குட்டிக்கும் முன்பாக நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தார்கள்; வெண்மையான தொங்கலாடை அணிந்தவர்களாய்க் கையில் குருத்தோலைகளைப் பிடித்திருந்தார்கள். அவர்கள், “அரியணையில் வீற்றிருக்கும் எங்கள் கடவுளிடமிருந்தும் ஆட்டுக்குட்டியிடமிருந்துமே மீட்பு வருகிறது” என்று உரத்த குரலில் பாடினார்கள்.

அப்பொழுது வானதூதர்கள் அனைவரும் அரியணையையும் மூப்பர்களையும் நான்கு உயிர்களையும் சூழ்ந்து நின்றுகொண்டு இருந்தார்கள்; பின் அரியணைமுன் முகம் குப்புற விழுந்து கடவுளை வணங்கினார்கள். “ஆமென், புகழ்ச்சியும் பெருமையும் ஞானமும் நன்றியும் மாண்பும் வல்லமையும் வலிமையும் எங்கள் கடவுளுக்கே என்றென்றும் உரியன; ஆமென்” என்று பாடினார்கள்.

மூப்பர்களுள் ஒருவர், “வெண்மையான தொங்கலாடை அணிந்துள்ள இவர்கள் யார்? எங்கிருந்து வந்தவர்கள் தெரியுமா?” என்று என்னை வினவினார். நான் அவரிடம், “என் தலைவரே, அது உமக்குத்தான் தெரியும்” என்றேன்.

அதற்கு அவர் என்னிடம் கூறியது: “இவர்கள் கொடிய வேதனையில் இருந்து மீண்டவர்கள்; தங்களின் தொங்கலாடைகளை ஆட்டுக்குட்டியின் இரத்தத்தில் துவைத்து வெண்மையாக்கிக் கொண்டவர்கள்.”

ஓய்வு நாள் ஒன்றில் இயேசு பரிசேயர் தலைவர் ஒருவருடைய வீட்டிற்கு உணவருந்தச் சென்றிருந்தார். அங்கிருந்தோர் அவரைக் கூர்ந்து கவனித்தனர். அங்கே நீர்க்கோவை நோயுள்ள ஒருவர் அவர்முன் இருந்தார்.

இயேசு திருச்சட்ட அறிஞரையும் பரிசேயரையும் பார்த்து, “ஓய்வு நாளில் குணப்படுத்துவது முறையா, இல்லையா?” என்று கேட்டார். அவர்கள் அமைதியாய் இருந்தனர். இயேசு அவரது கையைப் பிடித்து அவரை நலமாக்கி அனுப்பிவிட்டார்.

பிறகு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “உங்களுள் ஒருவர் தம் பிள்ளையோ மாடோ கிணற்றில் விழுந்தால் ஓய்வு நாள் என்றாலும் அதனை உடனே தூக்கிவிடமாட்டாரா?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்குப் பதில் சொல்ல அவர்களால் இயலவில்லை.

Brethren: I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit— that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh. Brethren: If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Christ Jesus is the one who died— more than that, who was raised— who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? இயேசு அவர்களுடன் இறங்கி வந்து சமவெளியான ஓரிடத்தில் நின்றார். பெருந்திரளான அவருடைய சீடர்களும் யூதேயா முழுவதிலிருந்தும் எருசலேமிலிருந்தும் தீர், சீதோன் கடற்கரைப் பகுதிகளிலிருந்தும் வந்த பெருந்திரளான மக்களும் அங்கே இருந்தார்கள். அவர் சொல்வதைக் கேட்கவும் தங்கள் பிணிகள் நீங்கி நலமடையவும் அவர்கள் வந்திருந்தார்கள். தீய ஆவிகளால் தொல்லைக்கு உள்ளானவர்கள் குணமானார்கள். அவரிடமிருந்து வல்லமை வெளிப்பட்டு அனைவர் பிணியையும் போக்கியதால், அங்குத் திரண்டிருந்த மக்கள் யாவரும் அவரைத் தொட முயன்றனர்.

அன்பிற்குரியவரே,

தீங்கு அனைத்திலிருந்தும் அவர் என்னை விடுவித்துத் தம் விண்ணரசில் சேர்த்து எனக்கு மீட்பளிப்பார். அவருக்கே என்றென்றும் மாட்சி உரித்தாகுக! ஆமென்.

சிலர் இயேசுவிடம் வந்து, பலி செலுத்திக்கொண்டிருந்த கலிலேயரைப் பிலாத்து கொன்றான் என்ற செய்தியை அறிவித்தனர். அவர் அவர்களிடம் மறுமொழியாக, “இக்கலிலேயருக்கு இவ்வாறு நிகழ்ந்ததால் இவர்கள் மற்றெல்லாக் கலிலேயரையும் விடப் பாவிகள் என நினைக்கிறீர்களா? அப்படி அல்ல என உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். மனம் மாறாவிட்டால் நீங்கள் அனைவரும் அவ்வாறே அழிவீர்கள்.

சீலோவாமிலே கோபுரம் விழுந்து பதினெட்டுப் பேரைக் கொன்றதே. அவர்கள் எருசலேமில் குடியிருந்த மற்ற எல்லாரையும் விடக் குற்றவாளிகள் என நினைக்கிறீர்களா? அப்படி அல்ல என உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். மனம் மாறாவிட்டால் நீங்கள் அனைவரும் அப்படியே அழிவீர்கள்” என்றார்.

மேலும், இயேசு இந்த உவமையைக் கூறினார்: “ஒருவர் தம் திராட்சைத் தோட்டத்தில் அத்திமரம் ஒன்றை நட்டு வைத்திருந்தார். அவர் வந்து அதில் கனியைத் தேடியபோது எதையும் காணவில்லை. எனவே அவர் தோட்டத் தொழிலாளரிடம், ‘பாரும், மூன்று ஆண்டுகளாக இந்த அத்திமரத்தில் கனியைத் தேடி வருகிறேன்; எதையும் காணவில்லை. ஆகவே இதை வெட்டிவிடும். இடத்தை ஏன் அடைத்துக்கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டும்?’ என்றார்.

தொழிலாளர் மறுமொழியாக, ‘ஐயா, இந்த ஆண்டும் இதை விட்டு வையும்; நான் இதைச் சுற்றிலும் கொத்தி எரு போடுவேன். அடுத்த ஆண்டு கனி கொடுத்தால் சரி; இல்லையானால் இதை வெட்டிவிடலாம்’ என்று அவரிடம் கூறினார்.”

கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவோடு இணைந்திருப்போருக்கு இனித் தண்டனைத் தீர்ப்பே கிடையாது. ஏனெனில், கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவோடு இணைந்திருப்போருக்கு வாழ்வு தரும் தூய ஆவியின் சட்டம் பாவம், சாவு என்பவற்றுக்கு உள்ளாக்கும் சட்டத்தினின்று என்னை விடுவித்துவிட்டது. ஊனியல்பின் காரணமாய் வலுவற்றிருந்த திருச்சட்டம் செய்ய முடியாத ஒன்றைக் கடவுள் செய்தார். அதாவது, ஊனியல்பு கொண்ட மனிதரைப் போன்றவராய்த் தம் சொந்த மகனை அனுப்பி மனிதரிடமுள்ள பாவத்திற்கு முடிவு கட்டினார். ஊனியல்புக்கேற்ப நடவாமல், ஆவிக்குரிய இயல்புக்கேற்ப நடக்கும் நாம் திருச்சட்டத்தின் நெறிகளை நிறைவேற்ற வேண்டும் என்று அவ்வாறு செய்தார்.

Brethren: There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Brethren:  I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 12:39-48

At this time: Jesus said to his disciples, “Know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?” And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed in coming’, and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful. And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.”

A reading from the letter of St.Paul to the Romans 6: 12-18 

Brethren: Let not sin reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.

இயேசு தம் சீடர்களை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “எந்த நேரத்தில் திருடன் வருவான் என்று வீட்டு உரிமையாளருக்குத் தெரிந்திருந்தால் அவர் தம் வீட்டில் கன்னமிட விடமாட்டார் என்பதை அறிவீர்கள். நீங்களும் ஆயத்தமாய் இருங்கள்; ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் நினையாத நேரத்தில் மானிட மகன் வருவார்."

அப்பொழுது பேதுரு, “ஆண்டவரே, நீர் சொல்லும் இந்த உவமை எங்களுக்கா? அல்லது எல்லாருக்குமா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அதற்கு ஆண்டவர் கூறியது: “தம் ஊழியருக்கு வேளாவேளை படியளக்கத் தலைவர் அமர்த்திய நம்பிக்கைக்கு உரியவரும் அறிவாளியுமான வீட்டுப் பொறுப்பாளர் யார்? தலைவர் வந்து பார்க்கும்போது தம் பணியைச் செய்துகொண்டிருப்பவரே அப்பணியாளர். அவர் பேறுபெற்றவர். அவரைத் தம் உடைமைக்கெல்லாம் அதிகாரியாக அவர் அமர்த்துவார் என உண்மையாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். ஆனால் அதே பணியாள் தன் தலைவர் வரக் காலந்தாழ்த்துவார் எனத் தன் உள்ளத்தில் சொல்லிக்கொண்டு ஆண், பெண் பணியாளர்கள் அனைவரையும் அடிக்கவும் மயக்கமுற உண்ணவும் குடிக்கவும் தொடங்கினான் எனில் அப்பணியாள் எதிர்பாராத நாளில், அறியாத நேரத்தில் அவனுடைய தலைவர் வந்து அவனைக் கொடுமையாகத் தண்டித்து நம்பிக்கைத் துரோகிகளுக்கு உரிய இடத்திற்குத் தள்ளுவார்.

தன் தலைவரின் விருப்பத்தை அறிந்திருந்தும், ஆயத்தமின்றியும் அவர் விருப்பப்படி செயல்படாமலும் இருக்கும் பணியாள் நன்றாய் அடிபடுவான். ஆனால் அவர் விருப்பத்தை அறியாமல், அடிவாங்க வேண்டிய முறையில் செயல்படுபவன் அவரது விருப்பத்தை அறியாமல், செயல்படுவதால் சிறிதே அடிபடுவான். மிகுதியாகக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டவரிடம் மிகுதியாகவே எதிர்பார்க்கப்படும். மிகுதியாக ஒப்படைக்கப்படுபவரிடம் இன்னும் மிகுதியாகக் கேட்கப்படும்.”

அதனால் என்ன? சட்டத்துக்கு உட்பட்டவர்களாய் இல்லாமல், அருளின் ஆட்சிக்கு உட்பட்டு இருப்பதால் நாம் பாவம் செய்யலாமா? ஒருபோதும் கூடாது. எதற்கு அடிமைகளாக உங்களை ஒப்புவித்துக் கீழ்ப்படிகிறீர்களோ அதற்கே நீங்கள் அடிமைகள் என்பது உங்களுக்குத் தெரியும் அன்றோ? அப்படியிருக்க, நீங்கள் பாவத்திற்கு உங்களையே அடிமையாக்கினால் சாவீர்கள்; நீங்கள் கடவுளுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிந்தால் அவருக்கு ஏற்புடையவர்கள் ஆவீர்கள்.

முன்பு பாவத்திற்கு அடிமைகளாய் இருந்த நீங்கள் பெற்றுக்கொண்ட போதனையில் அடங்கிய ஒழுக்க நெறியை உளமாரக் கடைப்பிடிக்கிறீர்கள். பாவத்தினின்று விடுதலை பெற்ற நீங்கள் கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்புடைய வாழ்க்கை நெறிக்கு அடிமைகளாய் இருக்கிறீர்கள். அதற்காகக் கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி.

இயேசு தம் சீடர்களை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “உங்கள் இடையை வரிந்துகட்டிக்கொள்ளுங்கள். விளக்குகளும் எரிந்துகொண்டிருக்கட்டும். திருமண விருந்துக்குப் போயிருந்த தம் தலைவர் திரும்பி வந்து தட்டும்போது உடனே அவருக்குக் கதவைத் திறக்கக் காத்திருக்கும் பணியாளருக்கு ஒப்பாய் இருங்கள்.

தலைவர் வந்து பார்க்கும்போது விழித்திருக்கும் பணியாளர்கள் பேறுபெற்றவர்கள். அவர் தம் இடையை வரிந்து கட்டிக்கொண்டு அவர்களைப் பந்தியில் அமரச் செய்து, அவர்களிடம் வந்து பணிவிடை செய்வார் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். தலைவர் இரவின் இரண்டாம் காவல் வேளையில் வந்தாலும் மூன்றாம் காவல் வேளையில் வந்தாலும் அவர்கள் விழிப்பாயிருப்பதைக் காண்பாரானால் அவர்கள் பேறு பெற்றவர்கள்.
