அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு நிக்கதேமிடம் கூறியது: “நீங்கள் மறுபடியும் பிறக்க வேண்டும் என்று நான் உமக்குக் கூறியது பற்றி நீர் வியப்படைய வேண்டாம். காற்று விரும்பிய திசையில் வீசுகிறது. அதன் ஓசை உமக்குக் கேட்கிறது. ஆனால் அது எங்கிருந்து வருகிறது என்றும் எங்குச் செல்கிறது என்றும் உமக்குத் தெரியாது. தூய ஆவியால் பிறந்த அனைவருக்கும் இது பொருந்தும்” என்றார்.

நிக்கதேம் அவரைப் பார்த்து, “இது எப்படி நிகழ முடியும்?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு இயேசு கூறியது: “நீர் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களிடையே போதகராய் இருந்தும் உமக்கு இது தெரியவில்லையே! எங்களுக்குத் தெரிந்ததைப்பற்றியே பேசுகிறோம்; நாங்கள் கண்டதைப்பற்றியே சான்று பகர்கிறோம். எனினும் எங்கள் சான்றை நீங்கள் ஏற்றுக்கொள்வதில்லை என உறுதியாக உமக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். மண்ணுலகு சார்ந்தவை பற்றி நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொன்னதை நீங்கள் நம்பவில்லை என்றால் விண்ணுலகு சார்ந்தவை பற்றிச் சொல்லும்போது எப்படி நம்பப்போகிறீர்கள்?

விண்ணகத்திலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்துள்ள மானிட மகனைத் தவிர வேறு எவரும் விண்ணகத்திற்கு ஏறிச் சென்றதில்லை. பாலை நிலத்தில் மோசேயால் பாம்பு உயர்த்தப்பட்டதுபோல மானிடமகனும் உயர்த்தப்பட வேண்டும்.”

அந்நாள்களில்

நம்பிக்கை கொண்ட மக்கள் அனைவரும் ஒரே உள்ளமும் ஒரே உயிருமாய் இருந்தனர். அவர்களுள் எவரும் தமது உடைமைகளைத் தம்முடையதாகக் கருதவில்லை; எல்லாம் அவர்களுக்குப் பொதுவாய் இருந்தது. திருத்தூதர் அனைவரும் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு உயிர்த்தெழுந்தார் என மிகுந்த வல்லமையோடு சான்று பகர்ந்து வந்தனர். அவர்கள் அனைவரும் மக்களின் நல்லெண்ணத்தை மிகுதியாகப் பெற்றிருந்தனர்.

தேவையில் உழல்வோர் எவரும் அவர்களுள் காணப்படவில்லை. நிலபுலங்களை அல்லது வீடுகளை உடையோர் அவற்றை விற்று அந்தத் தொகையைக் கொண்டுவந்து திருத்தூதருடைய காலடியில் வைப்பர்; அது அவரவர் தேவைக்குத் தக்கவாறு பகிர்ந்து கொடுக்கப்படும்.

சைப்பிரசு தீவைச் சேர்ந்த யோசேப்பு எனும் லேவியர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். இவருக்குத் திருத்தூதர்கள், ‘ஊக்குவிக்கும் பண்பு கொண்டவர்’ என்று பொருள்படும் பர்னபா என்னும் பெயரைக் கொடுத்திருந்தார்கள். அவர் தமது நிலத்தை விற்று அந்தப் பணத்தைக் கொண்டுவந்து திருத்தூதர்களது காலடியில் வைத்தார்.

At that time: Jesus said to Nicodemus, “‘You must be born anew.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.”

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles 4:32-37

The full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

நிக்கதேம் அவரை நோக்கி, “வயதானபின் ஒருவர் எப்படிப் பிறக்க முடியும்? அவர் மீண்டும் தாயின் வயிற்றில் புகுந்து பிறக்க முடியுமா?” என்று கேட்டார். இயேசு அவரைப் பார்த்து, “ஒருவர் தண்ணீராலும் தூய ஆவியாலும் பிறந்தாலன்றி இறையாட்சிக்கு உட்பட இயலாது என்று மிக உறுதியாக உமக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். மனிதரால் பிறப்பவர் மனித இயல்பை உடையவர். தூய ஆவியால் பிறப்பவர் தூய ஆவியின் இயல்பை உடையவர். நீங்கள் மறுபடியும் பிறக்க வேண்டும் என்று நான் உமக்குக் கூறியது பற்றி நீர் வியப்படைய வேண்டாம். காற்று விரும்பிய திசையில் வீசுகிறது. அதன் ஓசை உமக்குக் கேட்கிறது. ஆனால் அது எங்கிருந்து வருகிறது என்றும் எங்குச் செல்கிறது என்றும் உமக்குத் தெரியாது. தூய ஆவியால் பிறந்த அனைவருக்கும் இது பொருந்தும்” என்றார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

விடுதலை பெற்ற சீடர்கள், தங்களைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களிடம் வந்து, தலைமைக் குருக்களும் மூப்பர்களும் தங்களுக்குக் கூறிய யாவற்றையும் அறிவித்தார்கள். இவற்றைக் கேட்ட யாவரும் ஒரே மனத்துடன் தங்கள் குரலைக் கடவுள்பால் எழுப்பி, பின்வருமாறு மன்றாடினர்:

“ஆண்டவரே, ‘விண்ணுலகையும் மண்ணுலகையும் கடலையும் அவற்றிலுள்ள அனைத்தையும் படைத்தவர் நீரே'. எங்கள் தந்தையும் உம் ஊழியருமாகிய தாவீது வாயிலாகத் தூய ஆவி மூலம் ‘வேற்றினத்தார் சீறி எழுவதேன்? மக்களினங்கள் வீணாகச் சூழ்ச்சி செய்வதேன்? பூவுலகின் அரசர்களும் தலைவர்களும் ஆண்டவருக்கும் அவர்தம் மெசியாவுக்கும் எதிராக அணிவகுத்து நின்றனர்’ என்று உரைத்தீர். அதன்படியே இந்நகரில் உம்மால் அருள்பொழிவு பெற்ற உம் தூய ஊழியராகிய இயேசுவுக்கு எதிராக ஏரோதும் பொந்தியு பிலாத்தும் பிற இனத்தவரோடும் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களோடும் ஒன்றுதிரண்டனர். உமது கைவன்மையும் உமது திட்டமும் முன்குறித்த அனைத்தையும் அவர்கள் செய்து முடித்தனர்.

இப்போது கூட ஆண்டவரே, அவர்கள் அச்சுறுத்துவதைப் பாரும். உம் அடியார் முழுத் துணிவுடன் உமது வார்த்தைகளை எடுத்துக் கூற அருள் தாரும். உமது தூய ஊழியர் இயேசுவின் பெயரால் உமது கையை நீட்டி நோயுற்றோருக்கு நலமளியும்; அடையாளங்களும் அருஞ்செயல்களும் நடைபெறச் செய்யும்.”

இவ்வாறு மன்றாடியவுடன் அவர்கள் கூடியிருந்த இடம் அதிர்ந்தது. அவர்கள் அனைவரும் தூய ஆவியால் ஆட்கொள்ளப்பட்டவர்களாய்க் கடவுளின் வார்த்தைகளைத் துணிவுடன் எடுத்துக் கூறினர்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 3:1-8 

There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. As soon as Peter and John were released they went to the community and told them everything the chief priests and elders had said to them. When they heard it they lifted up their voice to God all together. ‘Master,’ they prayed ‘it is you who made heaven and earth and sea, and everything in them; you it is who said through the Holy Spirit and speaking through our ancestor David, your servant:

Why this arrogance among the nations,

these futile plots among the peoples?

Kings on earth setting out to war,

princes making an alliance,

against the Lord and against his Anointed.

‘This is what has come true: in this very city Herod and Pontius Pilate made an alliance with the pagan nations and the peoples of Israel, against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed, but only to bring about the very thing that you in your strength and your wisdom had predetermined should happen. And now, Lord, take note of their threats and help your servants to proclaim your message with all boldness, by stretching out your hand to heal and to work miracles and marvels through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’ As they prayed, the house where they were assembled rocked; they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God boldly.

எட்டு நாள்களுக்குப் பின் இயேசு சீடர்களுக்குத் தோன்றினார்.

✠ யோவான் எழுதிய தூய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 20: 19-31

அன்று வாரத்தின் முதல் நாள். அது மாலை வேளை. யூதர்களுக்கு அஞ்சிச் சீடர்கள் தாங்கள் இருந்த இடத்தின் கதவுகளை மூடிவைத்திருந்தார்கள். அப்போது இயேசு அங்கு வந்து அவர்கள் நடுவில் நின்று, “உங்களுக்கு அமைதி உரித்தாகுக!” என்று வாழ்த்தினார். இவ்வாறு சொல்லியபின் அவர் தம் கைகளையும் விலாவையும் அவர்களிடம் காட்டினார். ஆண்டவரைக் கண்டதால் சீடர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சி கொண்டார்கள்.

இயேசு மீண்டும் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “உங்களுக்கு அமைதி உரித்தாகுக! தந்தை என்னை அனுப்பியதுபோல நானும் உங்களை அனுப்புகிறேன்” என்றார். இதைச் சொன்னபின் அவர் அவர்கள்மேல் ஊதி, “தூய ஆவியைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள். எவருடைய பாவங்களை நீங்கள் மன்னிப்பீர்களோ, அவை மன்னிக்கப்படும். எவருடைய பாவங்களை மன்னியாதிருப்பீர்களோ, அவை மன்னிக்கப்படா” என்றார்.

பன்னிருவருள் ஒருவரான திதிம் என்னும் தோமா, இயேசு வந்தபோது அவர்களோடு இல்லை. மற்றச் சீடர்கள் அவரிடம், “ஆண்டவரைக் கண்டோம்” என்றார்கள். தோமா அவர்களிடம், “அவருடைய கைகளில் ஆணிகளால் ஏற்பட்ட தழும்பைப் பார்த்து, அதில் என் விரலை விட்டு, அவர் விலாவில் என் கையை இட்டாலன்றி நான் நம்பமாட்டேன்” என்றார்.

எட்டு நாள்களுக்குப்பின் அவருடைய சீடர்கள் மீண்டும் உள்ளே கூடியிருந்தார்கள். அன்று தோமாவும் அவர்களோடு இருந்தார். கதவுகள் பூட்டப்பட்டிருந்தும் இயேசு உள்ளே வந்து அவர்கள் நடுவில் நின்று, “உங்களுக்கு அமைதி உரித்தாகுக!” என்று வாழ்த்தினார். பின்னர் அவர் தோமாவிடம், “இதோ! என் கைகள். இங்கே உன் விரலை இடு. உன் கையை நீட்டி என் விலாவில் இடு. ஐயம் தவிர்த்து நம்பிக்கை கொள்” என்றார்.

தோமா அவரைப் பார்த்து, “நீரே என் ஆண்டவர்! நீரே என் கடவுள்!!” என்றார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “நீ என்னைக் கண்டதால் நம்பினாய். காணாமலே நம்புவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்” என்றார்.

வேறு பல அரும் அடையாளங்களையும் இயேசு தம் சீடர்கள் முன்னிலையில் செய்தார். அவையெல்லாம் இந்நூலில் எழுதப்படவில்லை. இயேசுவே இறைமகனாகிய மெசியா என நீங்கள் நம்புவதற்காகவும், நம்பி அவர் பெயரால் வாழ்வு பெறுவதற்காகவுமே இந்நூலில் உள்ளவை எழுதப்பெற்றுள்ளன.

இப்போது சிறிது காலம் நீங்கள் பல்வகைச் சோதனைகளால் துயருறவேண்டியிருப்பினும் அந்நாளிலே பேருவகை கொள்வீர்கள். அழியக்கூடிய பொன் நெருப்பினால் புடமிடப்படுகிறது. அதைவிட விலையுயர்ந்த உங்கள் நம்பிக்கையும் மெய்ப்பிக்கப்படவே துயருறுகிறீர்கள். இயேசு கிறிஸ்து வெளிப்படும்போது அந்நம்பிக்கை உங்களுக்குப் புகழும் மாண்பும் பெருமையும் தருவதாய் விளங்கும். நீங்கள் அவரைப் பார்த்ததில்லை; எனினும் அவர்மீது அன்பு செலுத்துகிறீர்கள். இப்பொழுதும் நீங்கள் அவரைக் கண்டதில்லை; எனினும் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டு சொல்லொண்ணா, ஒப்பற்ற மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்து பேருவகை கொள்கிறீர்கள். இவ்வாறு உங்கள் நம்பிக்கையின் குறிக்கோளான ஆன்ம மீட்பையும் பெறுகிறீர்கள்.

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. A Reading from the First Letter of St.Peter 1:3-9 

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith— more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire— may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. பேதுருவும் யோவானும் கல்வியறிவு அற்றவர்கள் என்பதைத் தலைமைச் சங்கத்தார் அறிந்திருந்ததால், அவர்களது துணிவைக் கண்டு வியப் படைந்தனர்; அவர்கள் இயேசுவோடு இருந்தவர்கள் என்பதையும் உணர்ந்துகொண்டனர். நலம் பெற்ற மனிதர் அவர்களோடு நிற்பதைக் கண்டதால் அவர்களால் ஒன்றும் மறுத்துப் பேச முடியவில்லை. எனவே அவர்கள் பேதுருவையும் யோவானையும் சங்கத்தை விட்டு வெளியேறும்படி ஆணையிட்டு, பின்பு தங்களுக்குள் இது குறித்துக் கலந்து பேசினார்கள். “நாம் இந்த மனிதர்களை என்ன செய்யலாம்? ஏனென்றால் குறிப்பிடத்தக்க ஓர் அரும் அடையாளத்தை இவர்கள் செய்துள்ளார்கள்; இது எருசலேமில் வாழும் அனைவருக்கும் தெரியும். இதை நாம் மறுக்க முடியாது. ஆகவே இச்செய்தி மேலும் மக்களிடையே பரவாமலிருக்குமாறு இந்த இயேசுவைக் குறித்து யாரிடமும் பேசக்கூடாதென நாம் இவர்களை அச்சுறுத்தி வைப்போம்” என்று கூறினார்கள்.

அதன் பின்பு தலைமைச் சங்கத்தார் அவர்களை அழைத்து, “இயேசுவைப் பற்றி எதுவும் பேசவோ, கற்பிக்கவோ கூடாது” என்று கண்டிப்பாகக் கட்டளையிட்டனர். அதற்குப் பேதுருவும் யோவானும் மறுமொழியாக, “உங்களுக்குச் செவிசாய்ப்பதா? கடவுளுக்குச் செவிசாய்ப்பதா? இதில் கடவுள் பார்வையில் எது முறையானது என நீங்களே தீர்மானித்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள்; என்ன ஆனாலும் நாங்கள் கண்டதையும் கேட்டதையும் எடுத்துரைக்காமலிருக்க எங்களால் முடியாது” என்றனர். அவர்களைத் தண்டிப்பதற்கு வேறு வழி கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியாததாலும், மக்களுக்கு அஞ்சியதாலும் தலைமைச் சங்கத்தார் அவர்களை மீண்டும் அச்சுறுத்தி விடுதலை செய்தனர்.

After these things he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them. Afterwards he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. But when they had commanded them to leave the Council, they conferred with one another, saying, “What shall we do with these men? But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened.

இயேசு தம் சீடருக்குத் திபேரியக் கடல் அருகே மீண்டும் தோன்றினார். அவர் தோன்றியது இவ்வாறு: சீமோன் பேதுரு, திதிம் எனப்படும் தோமா, கலிலேயாவிலுள்ள கானாவைச் சேர்ந்த நத்தனியேல், செபதேயுவின் மக்கள் ஆகியோரோடு இயேசுவின் சீடர்களுள் வேறு இருவரும் கூடியிருந்தனர். அப்போது சீமோன் பேதுரு அவர்களிடம், “நான் மீன்பிடிக்கப் போகிறேன்” என்றார். அவர்கள் “நாங்களும் உம்மோடு வருகிறோம்” என்று, போய்ப் படகில் ஏறினார்கள். அன்று இரவு அவர்களுக்கு மீன் ஒன்றும் கிடைக்கவில்லை.

ஏற்கெனவே விடியற்காலை ஆகியிருந்தது. இயேசு கரையில் நின்றார். ஆனால் அவர் இயேசு என்று சீடர்கள் அறிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை. இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “பிள்ளைகளே! மீன் ஒன்றும் படவில்லையா?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவர்கள், “இல்லை” என்றார்கள். அவர், “படகின் வலப்பக்கத்தில் வலை வீசுங்கள்; மீன் கிடைக்கும்” என்று அவர்களிடம் கூறினார். அவர்களும் அவ்வாறே வீசினார்கள். மீன்கள் மிகுதியாய் அகப்பட்டதால் அவர்களால் வலையை இழுக்க முடியவில்லை. இயேசுவின் அன்புச் சீடர் அதைக் கண்டு பேதுருவிடம், “அங்கு நிற்பவர் ஆண்டவர்தாம்” என்றார். அதைக் கேட்டவுடன் தம் ஆடையைக் களைந்திருந்த சீமோன் பேதுரு ஆடையை இடுப்பில் கட்டிக்கொண்டு கடலில் குதித்தார். மற்ற சீடர்கள் மீன்களுடன் வலையை இழுத்துக்கொண்டு படகிலேயே வந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் கரையிலிருந்து வெகு தொலையில் இல்லை; ஏறக்குறைய நூறு மீட்டர் தொலையில்தான் இருந்தார்கள்.

படகைவிட்டு இறங்கியவுடன் கரியினால் தீ மூட்டியிருப்பதையும் அதன்மீது மீன் வைத்திருப்பதையும் அவர்கள் கண்டார்கள். அங்கு அப்பமும் இருந்தது. இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் இப்போது பிடித்தவற்றில் சில மீன்களைக் கொண்டு வாருங்கள்” என்றார். சீமோன் பேதுரு படகில் ஏறி, வலையைக் கரைக்கு இழுத்தார். வலை நிறைய பெரிய மீன்கள் இருந்தன. அவற்றின் எண்ணிக்கை நூற்று ஐம்பத்து மூன்று. இத்தனை மீன்கள் இருந்தும் வலை கிழியவில்லை. இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “உணவருந்த வாருங்கள்” என்றார். சீடர்களுள் எவரும், “நீர் யார்?” என்று இயேசுவிடம் கேட்கத் துணியவில்லை. ஏனெனில், அவர் ஆண்டவர்தாம் என்று அவர்கள் அறிந்துகொண்டார்கள். இயேசு அவர்கள் அருகில் வந்து, அப்பத்தை எடுத்து அவர்களிடம் கொடுத்தார்; மீனையும் அவ்வாறே கொடுத்தார். இவ்வாறு, இயேசு இறந்து உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்ட பின்பு தம் சீடருக்கு இப்போது மூன்றாம் முறையாகத் தோன்றினார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

பேதுருவும் யோவானும் மக்களோடு பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தனர். அப்போது குருக்களும் சதுசேயர்களும் கோவில் காவல் தலைவரும் அங்கு வந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் மக்களுக்குக் கற்பிப்பதையும் இறந்தோர் இயேசுவின்மூலம் உயிர்த்தெழுவர் என்று அறிவித்ததையும் கண்டு எரிச்சல் அடைந்து, அவர்களைக் கைது செய்தார்கள்; ஏற்கெனவே மாலையாகி விட்டதால் மறுநாள்வரை காவலில் வைத்தார்கள். அவர்களுடைய வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்ட பலரும் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டனர். இவ்வாறு நம்பிக்கை கொண்ட ஆண்களது எண்ணிக்கை ஏறக்குறைய ஐயாயிரம்.

மறுநாள் தலைவர்களும் மூப்பர்களும் மறைநூல் அறிஞர்களும் எருசலேமில் ஒன்றுகூடினார்கள். அவர்களுடன் தலைமைக் குருவான அன்னாவும், கயபா, யோவான், அலக்சாந்தர் ஆகியோரும், தலைமைக் குருவின் குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்த அனைவரும் கூடியிருந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் திருத்தூதர்களை நடுவில் நிறுத்தி, ‘‘நீங்கள் எந்த வல்லமையால், அல்லது எந்தப் பெயரால் இதனைச் செய்தீர்கள்?” என்று வினவினார்கள்.

At that time: Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea. The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off. When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

In those days: As Peter and John were speaking to the people, [after the lame man was healed,] the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand. On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. And when they had set them in the midst, they enquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead— by him this man is standing before you well. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. சீடர்கள் வழியில் நிகழ்ந்தவற்றையும், இயேசு அப்பத்தை பிட்டுக் கொடுக்கும்போது அவரைக் கண்டுணர்ந்துகொண்டதையும் அங்கு இருந்தவர்களுக்கு எடுத்துரைத்தார்கள்.

சீடர்கள் இவ்வாறு பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது இயேசு அவர்கள் நடுவில் நின்று, ‘‘உங்களுக்கு அமைதி உரித்தாகுக!” என்று அவர்களை வாழ்த்தினார். அவர்கள் திகிலுற்று, அச்சம் நிறைந்தவர்களாய், ஓர் ஆவியைக் காண்பதாய் நினைத்தார்கள். அதற்கு அவர், ‘‘நீங்கள் ஏன் கலங்குகிறீர்கள்? ஏன் இவ்வாறு உங்கள் உள்ளத்தில் ஐயம் கொள்கிறீர்கள்? என் கைகளையும் என் கால்களையும் பாருங்கள், நானேதான். என்னைத் தொட்டுப் பாருங்கள்; எனக்கு எலும்பும் சதையும் இருப்பதைக் காண்கிறீர்களே; இவை ஆவிக்குக் கிடையாதே” என்று அவர்களிடம் கூறினார்; இப்படிச் சொல்லித் தம் கைகளையும் கால்களையும் அவர்களுக்குக் காண்பித்தார்.

அவர்களோ மகிழ்ச்சி மேலிட்டு, நம்பமுடியாதவர்களாய், வியப்புக்கு உள்ளாகி இருந்தார்கள். அப்போது அவர் அவர்களிடம், ‘‘உண்பதற்கு இங்கே உங்களிடம் ஏதேனும் உண்டா?” என்று கேட்டார். அவர்கள் வேகவைத்த மீன் துண்டு ஒன்றை அவரிடம் கொடுத்தார்கள். அதை அவர் எடுத்து அவர்கள்முன் அமர்ந்து உண்டார்.

பின்பு அவர் அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, ‘‘மோசேயின் சட்டத்திலும் இறைவாக்கினர் நூல்களிலும் திருப்பாடல்களிலும் என்னைப்பற்றி எழுதப்பட்டுள்ள அனைத்தும் நிறைவேற வேண்டும் என்று நான் உங்களோடு இருந்தபோதே உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லியிருந்தேனே” என்றார்; அப்போது மறைநூலைப் புரிந்துகொள்ளுமாறு அவர்களுடைய மனக் கண்களைத் திறந்தார். அவர் அவர்களிடம், ‘‘மெசியா துன்புற்று இறந்து மூன்றாம் நாள் உயிர்த்தெழ வேண்டும் என்றும், பாவமன்னிப்புப் பெற மனம் மாறுங்கள் என எருசலேம் தொடங்கி அனைத்து நாடுகளிலும் அவருடைய பெயரால் பறைசாற்றப்பட வேண்டும் என்றும் எழுதியுள்ளது. இவற்றுக்கு நீங்கள் சாட்சிகள்” என்றார்.

கால் ஊனமுற்றிருந்தவர் நலமடைந்தபின் பேதுருவையும் யோவானையும் விடாமல் பற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்க, எல்லா மக்களும் திகிலுற்றுச் சாலமோன் மண்டபம் என்னும் இடத்திற்கு ஒருசேர ஓடிவந்தனர். பேதுரு இதைக் கண்டு மக்களைப் பார்த்துக் கூறியது: “எருசலேம் மக்களே, நீங்கள் ஏன் இதைப் பார்த்து வியப்படைகிறீர்கள்? நாங்கள் எங்கள் சொந்த வல்லமையாலோ இறைப்பற்றாலோ இவரை நடக்கச் செய்துவிட்டதுபோல் ஏன் எங்களையே உற்றுப் பார்க்கிறீர்கள்? ஆபிரகாம், ஈசாக்கு, யாக்கோபு என்னும் நம் மூதாதையரின் கடவுள் தம் ஊழியர் இயேசுவைப் பெருமைப்படுத்தினார். ஆனால் நீங்கள் அவரைப் புறக்கணித்துப் பிலாத்திடம் ஒப்புவித்து விட்டீர்கள். அவன் அவருக்கு விடுதலைத் தீர்ப்பு அளிக்க முயன்றபோதும் நீங்கள் அவரை மறுதலித்தீர்கள். நீங்கள் தூய்மையும் நேர்மையுமானவரை மறுதலித்துக் கொலையாளியை விடுதலை செய்யுமாறு வேண்டிக் கொண்டீர்கள். வாழ்வுக்கு ஊற்றானவரை நீங்கள் கொன்றுவிட்டீர்கள். ஆனால் கடவுள் இறந்த அவரை உயிரோடு எழுப்பினார். இதற்கு நாங்கள் சாட்சிகள். இதோ உங்கள் கண்முன் நிற்கிற இவர் உங்களுக்குத் தெரிந்தவர். இயேசுவின் பெயரே இவருக்கு வலுவூட்டியது. அவர் பெயர்மீது கொண்டிருந்த நம்பிக்கையால்தான் இது நடந்தது. இந்த நம்பிக்கையே உங்கள் அனைவர் முன்பாகவும் இவருக்கு முழுமையான உடல் நலனைக் கொடுத்துள்ளது.

அன்பர்களே, நீங்களும் உங்கள் தலைவர்களும் அறியாமையினாலேயே இப்படிச் செய்துவிட்டீர்கள் என எனக்குத் தெரியும். ஆனால் கடவுள், தம் மெசியா துன்புற வேண்டும் என்று இறைவாக்கினர் அனைவர் வாயிலாகவும் முன்னறிவித்ததை இவ்வாறு நிறைவேற்றினார். எனவே உங்கள் பாவங்கள் போக்கப்படும்பொருட்டு மனம்மாறி அவரிடம் திரும்புங்கள். அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவர் புத்துயிர் அளிக்கும் காலத்தை அருளி உங்களுக்காக ஏற்படுத்திய மெசியாவாகிய இயேசுவை அனுப்புவார். விண்ணேற்றமடைந்த இயேசு யாவும் சீர்படுத்தப்படும் காலம்வரை விண்ணுலகில் இருக்கவேண்டும். பழங்காலத் தூய இறைவாக்கினர் வாயிலாகக் கடவுள் இந்தக் காலத்தைக் குறித்துக் கூறியிருந்தார்.

மோசேயும், ‘உங்கள் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் உங்கள் சகோதரரிடமிருந்து என்னைப்போல் ஓர் இறைவாக்கினரைத் தோன்றச் செய்வார். அவர் உங்களுக்குக் கூறும் எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் நீங்கள் செவிசாயுங்கள். அந்த இறைவாக்கினருக்குச் செவிசாய்த்துக் கீழ்ப்படியாத எவரும் மக்களினின்று அடியோடு அழிக்கப்படுவர்’ என்று கூறியுள்ளார்.

சாமுவேல் தொடங்கி இறைவாக்குரைத்த அனைவரும் இந்தக் காலத்தைப்பற்றி அறிவித்து வந்தனர். அந்த இறைவாக்கினர் உரைத்தவற்றை உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்பவர்கள் நீங்கள். கடவுள் ஆபிரகாமிடம், ‘உன் மரபினர் வழியாக மண்ணின் மக்களினங்கள் அனைத்தும் ஆசி பெறும்’ என்று கூறி உடன்படிக்கை செய்தார். கடவுள் உங்கள் மூதாதையரோடு செய்த அந்த உடன்படிக்கையையும் உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்பவர்கள் நீங்களே. ஆகையால், நீங்கள் அனைவரும் உங்கள் தீய செயல்களை விட்டு விலகி ஆசி பெற்றுக்கொள்வதற்காகவே, கடவுள் தம் ஊழியரைத் தோன்றச் செய்து முதன்முதல் உங்களிடம் அனுப்பினார்.”

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 24: 35-48 

At that time: The two disciples told what had happened on the road to Emmaus, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread. As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!” But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marvellling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate before them. Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. In those days: While the lame man clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s. And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. And his name—by faith in his name— has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all. “And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. ✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய தூய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 24: 13-35

வாரத்தின் முதல் நாள் சீடர்களுள் இருவர் எருசலேமிலிருந்து ஏறத்தாழ பதினொரு கிலோ மீட்டர் தொலையிலுள்ள ஓர் ஊருக்குச் சென்று கொண்டிருந்தனர். அவ்வூரின் பெயர் எம்மாவு. அவர்கள் இந்நிகழ்ச்சிகள் அனைத்தையும் குறித்து ஒருவரோடு ஒருவர் உரையாடிக்கொண்டே சென்றார்கள். இப்படி அவர்கள் உரையாடிக்கொண்டும் வினவிக் கொண்டும் சென்றபோது, இயேசு நெருங்கிவந்து அவர்களோடு நடந்து சென்றார். ஆனால் அவர் யார் என்று அறிந்து உணரமுடியாதவாறு அவர்கள் கண்கள் மறைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தன. அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “வழிநெடுகிலும் நீங்கள் ஒருவரோடு ஒருவர் பேசிக்கொண்டிருப்பது என்ன?” என்று கேட்டார். அவர்கள் முக வாட்டத்தோடு நின்றார்கள்.

அவர்களுள் கிளயோப்பா என்னும் பெயருடைய ஒருவர் அவரிடம் மறுமொழியாக, “எருசலேமில் தங்கியிருப்பவர்களுள் உமக்கு மட்டும்தான் இந்நாள்களில் நிகழ்ந்தவை தெரியாதோ!"என்றார். அதற்கு அவர் அவர்களிடம், “என்ன நிகழ்ந்தது?” என்று கேட்டார். அவர்கள் அவரிடம், “நாசரேத்து இயேசுவைப் பற்றியேதான் பேசுகின்றோம். அவர் கடவுளுக்கும் மக்கள் எல்லாருக்கும் முன்பாகச் சொல்லிலும் செயலிலும் வல்ல இறைவாக்கினராகத் திகழ்ந்தார். அவர் இஸ்ரயேலை மீட்கப் போகிறார் என்று நாங்கள் எதிர்பார்த்து இருந்தோம். ஆனால் தலைமைக் குருக்களும் ஆட்சியாளர்களும் அவருக்கு மரணதண்டனை விதித்துச் சிலுவையில் அறைந்தார்கள். இவையெல்லாம் நிகழ்ந்து இன்றோடு மூன்று நாள்கள் ஆகின்றன. ஆனால் இன்று எங்களைச் சேர்ந்த பெண்களுள் சிலர் எங்களை மலைப்புக்குள்ளாக்கினர்; அவர்கள் விடியற்காலையில் கல்லறைக்குச் சென்றார்கள்; அவருடைய உடலைக் காணாது திரும்பி வந்து, வானதூதர்களைக் கண்டதாகவும் இயேசு உயிரோடிருக்கிறார் என்று அவர்கள் கூறியதாகவும் சொன்னார்கள். எங்களோடு இருந்தவர்களுள் சிலரும் கல்லறைக்குச் சென்று, அப்பெண்கள் சொன்னவாறே இருக்கக் கண்டனர். ஆனால் அவர்கள் இயேசுவைக் காணவில்லை” என்றார்கள்.

இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “அறிவிலிகளே! இறைவாக்கினர்கள் உரைத்த எல்லாவற்றையும் நம்ப இயலாத மந்த உள்ளத்தினரே! மெசியா தாம் மாட்சியடைவதற்குமுன் இத்துன்பங்களைப் படவேண்டுமல்லவா!” என்றார். மேலும் மோசேமுதல் இறைவாக்கினர்வரை அனைவரின் நூல்களிலும் தம்மைக் குறித்து எழுதப்பட்ட யாவற்றையும் அவர் அவர்களுக்கு விளக்கினார்.

அவர்கள் தாங்கள் போகவேண்டிய ஊரை நெருங்கி வந்தார்கள். அவரோ அதற்கு அப்பால் போகிறவர்போலக் காட்டிக்கொண்டார். அவர்கள் அவரிடம், “எங்களோடு தங்கும்; ஏனெனில் மாலை நேரம் ஆயிற்று; பொழுதும் போயிற்று” என்று கூறிக் கட்டாயப்படுத்தி அவரை இணங்கவைத்தார்கள். அவர் அங்குத் தங்குமாறு அவர்களோடு சென்றார். அவர்களோடு அவர் பந்தியில் அமர்ந்திருந்தபோது அப்பத்தை எடுத்து, கடவுளைப் போற்றி, பிட்டு அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார். அப்போது அவர்கள் கண்கள் திறந்தன. அவர்களும் அவரை அடையாளம் கண்டுகொண்டார்கள். உடனே அவர் அவர்களிடமிருந்து மறைந்துபோனார். அப்போது, அவர்கள் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் நோக்கி, “வழியிலே அவர் நம்மோடு பேசி, மறைநூலை விளக்கும்போது நம் உள்ளம் பற்றி எரியவில்லையா?” என்று பேசிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

அந்நேரமே அவர்கள் புறப்பட்டு எருசலேமுக்குத் திரும்பிப் போனார்கள். அங்கே பதினொருவரும் அவர்களோடு இருந்தவர்களும் குழுமியிருக்கக் கண்டார்கள். அங்கிருந்தவர்கள், “ஆண்டவர் உண்மையாகவே உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்டார். அவர் சீமோனுக்குத் தோற்றம் அளித்துள்ளார்” என்று சொன்னார்கள். அவர்கள் வழியில் நிகழ்ந்தவற்றையும் அவர் அப்பத்தைப் பிட்டுக்கொடுக்கும்போது அவரைக் கண்டுணர்ந்துகொண்டதையும் அங்கிருந்தவர்களுக்கு எடுத்துரைத்தார்கள்.
