The disciples came to Jesus and said, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ So he called a little child to him and set the child in front of them. Then he said, ‘I tell you solemnly, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

  ‘Anyone who welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.’

Rejoice, Jerusalem,

That you may be suckled, filled,

from her consoling breast,

that you may savour with delight

her glorious breasts.

For thus says the Lord:

Now towards her I send flowing

peace, like a river,

and like a stream in spate

the glory of the nations.

Like a son comforted by his mother

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: Peoples shall yet come, even the inhabitants of many cities. The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, ‘Let us go at once to entreat the favour of the Lord, and to seek the Lord of hosts; I myself am going.’ Many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favour of the Lord. “As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire. A stream of fire issued and came out from before him; a thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him; the court sat in judgment, and the books were opened. I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.”

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு பரிசேயரிடம் கூறியது: “செல்வர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவர் விலையுயர்ந்த மெல்லிய செந்நிற ஆடை அணிந்து நாள்தோறும் விருந்துண்டு இன்புற்றிருந்தார். இலாசர் என்னும் பெயர் கொண்ட ஏழை ஒருவரும் இருந்தார். அவர் உடல் முழுவதும் புண்ணாய் இருந்தது. அவர் அச்செல்வருடைய வீட்டு வாயில் அருகே கிடந்தார். அவர் செல்வருடைய மேசையிலிருந்து விழும் துண்டுகளால் தம் பசியாற்ற விரும்பினார். நாய்கள் வந்து அவர் புண்களை நக்கும். அந்த ஏழை இறந்தார். வானதூதர்கள் அவரை ஆபிரகாமின் மடியில் கொண்டு போய்ச் சேர்த்தார்கள். செல்வரும் இறந்தார். அவர் அடக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டார்.

அவர் பாதாளத்தில் வதைக்கப்பட்டபோது அண்ணாந்து பார்த்துத் தொலையில் ஆபிரகாமையும் அவரது மடியில் இலாசரையும் கண்டார். அவர், ‘தந்தை ஆபிரகாமே, எனக்கு இரங்கும்; இலாசர் தமது விரல் நுனியைத் தண்ணீரில் நனைத்து எனது நாவைக் குளிரச் செய்ய அவரை அனுப்பும். ஏனெனில் இந்தத் தீப்பிழம்பில் நான் மிகுந்த வேதனைப் படுகிறேன்’ என்று உரக்கக் கூறினார்.

அதற்கு ஆபிரகாம், ‘மகனே, நீ உன் வாழ்நாளில் நலன்களையே பெற்றாய்; அதே வேளையில் இலாசர் இன்னல்களையே அடைந்தார். அதை நினைத்துக்கொள். இப்பொழுது அவர் இங்கே ஆறுதல் பெறுகிறார்; நீயோ மிகுந்த வேதனைப்படுகிறாய். அன்றியும் எங்களுக்கும் உங்களுக்கும் இடையே பெரும் பிளவு ஒன்று உள்ளது. ஆகையால் இங்கிருந்து ஒருவர் உங்களிடம் வர விரும்பினாலும் கடந்து வர இயலாது. அங்கிருந்து நீங்கள் எங்களிடம் கடந்து வரவும் இயலாது’ என்றார்.

அவர், ‘அப்படியானால் தந்தையே, அவரை என் தந்தை வீட்டுக்கு அனுப்புமாறு உம்மிடம் வேண்டுகிறேன். எனக்கு ஐந்து சகோதரர்கள் உண்டு. அவர்களும் வேதனை மிகுந்த இந்த இடத்திற்கு வராதவாறு அவர் அவர்களை எச்சரிக்கலாமே’ என்றார். அதற்கு ஆபிரகாம், ‘மோசேயும் இறைவாக்கினர்களும் அவர்களுக்கு உண்டு. அவர்களுக்குச் செவிசாய்க்கட்டும்’ என்றார்.

அவர், ‘அப்படியல்ல, தந்தை ஆபிரகாமே, இறந்த ஒருவர் அவர்களிடம் போனால் அவர்கள் மனம் மாறுவார்கள்’ என்றார். ஆபிரகாம், ‘அவர்கள் மோசேக்கும் இறைவாக்கினருக்கும் செவிசாய்க்காவிட்டால், இறந்த ஒருவர் உயிர்த்தெழுந்து அவர்களிடம் போனாலும் நம்பமாட்டார்கள்” என்றார்.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் திமொத்தேயுவுக்கு எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 6: 11-16

கடவுளின் மனிதனாகிய நீ, பொருள் ஆசையிலிருந்து தப்பி ஓடு. நீதி, இறைப் பற்று, நம்பிக்கை, மன உறுதி, பணிவு ஆகியவற்றை நாடித் தேடு. விசுவாச வாழ்வு என்னும் போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபடு. நிலை வாழ்வைப் பற்றிக்கொள். அதற்காகவே அழைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறாய். அதனை முன்னிட்டே பல சாட்சிகள் முன்னிலையில் விசுவாசத்தைச் சிறப்பாக அறிக்கையிட்டாய்.

அனைத்துக்கும் வாழ்வளிக்கும் கடவுளின் முன்னிலையிலும், பொந்தியு பிலாத்துவின் முன் விசுவாசத்தைச் சிறப்பாக அறிக்கையிட்ட இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் முன்னிலையிலும் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிடுகிறேன். நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்து தோன்றும் வரையில் குறைச் சொல்லுக்கு இடந்தராமல் இந்தக் கட்டளையை அப்பழுக்கின்றிக் கடைப்பிடித்து வா. உரிய காலத்தில் பேரின்பக் கடவுள் அவரைத் தோன்றச் செய்வார். கடவுள் ஒருவரே வேந்தர், அரசருக்கெல்லாம் அரசர், ஆண்டவருக்கெல்லாம் ஆண்டவர். அவர் ஒருவரே சாவை அறியாதவர்; அணுக முடியாத ஒளியில் வாழ்பவர்; அவரைக் கண்டவர் எவருமிலர்; காணவும் முடியாது. அவருக்கே என்றென்றும் மாண்பும் ஆற்றலும் உரித்தாகுக! ஆமென்.

The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. As for you, O man of God, pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time— he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. ‘மகளே, சீயோன்! அகமகிழ்ந்து ஆர்ப்பரி; இதோ நான் வருகிறேன்; வந்து உன் நடுவில் குடிகொள்வேன்’ என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர். அந்நாளில், வேற்றினத்தார் பலர் ஆண்டவரிடம் வந்து சேர்வார்கள்; அவர்கள் அவருடைய மக்களாய் இருப்பார்கள். அவர் உன் நடுவில் தங்கியிருப்பார்.

At the evening sacrifice

I, Ezra, rose from my fasting, with my garment and my cloak torn, and fell upon my knees and spread out my hands to the Lord my God, saying: “O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift my face to you, my God, for our iniquities have risen higher than our heads, and our guilt has mounted up to the heavens. From the days of our fathers to this day we have been in great guilt. And for our iniquities we, our kings, and our priests have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plundering, and to utter shame, as it is today. But now for a brief moment favour has been shown by the Lord our God, to leave us a remnant and to give us a secure hold within his holy place, that our God may brighten our eyes and grant us a little reviving in our slavery. In those days: Darius the king wrote to the governors of the province Beyond the river, “Leave the work on this house of God alone. Let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its site. Moreover, I make a decree regarding what you shall do for these elders of the Jews for the rebuilding of this house of God. The cost is to be paid to these men in full and without delay from the royal revenue, the tribute of the province from Beyond the River. “I Darius make a decree; let it be done with all diligence.” And the elders of the Jews built and prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. They finished their building by decree of the God of Israel and by decree of Cyrus and Darius and Artaxerxes king of Persia; and this house was finished on the third day of the month of Adar, in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king. And the people of Israel, the priests and the Levites, and the rest of the returned exiles, celebrated the dedication of this house of God with joy. They offered at the dedication of this house of God one hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, and as a sin offering for all Israel twelve male goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel. Cyrus king of Persia frees the Jews to return to Jerusalem

A reading from the book of Ezra 1:1-6 

In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing: “Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he has charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever is among you of all his people, may his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and rebuild the house of the Lord, the God of Israel— he is the God who is in Jerusalem. And let each survivor, in whatever place he sojourns, be assisted by the men of his place with silver and gold, with goods and with beasts, besides freewill offerings for the house of God that is in Jerusalem.” Then rose up the heads of the fathers’ houses of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and the Levites, everyone whose spirit God had stirred to go up to rebuild the house of the Lord that is in Jerusalem. And all who were about them aided them with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, with beasts, and with costly wares, besides all that was freely offered.

நீங்கள் கடவுளுக்கும் செல்வத்துக்கும் பணிவிடை செய்ய முடியாது.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 16: 1-13

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடர்களுக்குக் கூறியது: “செல்வர் ஒருவருக்கு வீட்டுப் பொறுப்பாளர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவர் தம் தலைவரின் உடைமைகளைப் பாழாக்கியதாக அவர்மீது பழி சுமத்தப் பட்டது. தலைவர் அவரைக் கூப்பிட்டு, ‘உம்மைப் பற்றி நான் கேள்விப்படுவது என்ன? உம் பொறுப்பிலுள்ள கணக்கை ஒப்படையும். நீர் இனி வீட்டுப் பொறுப்பாளராய் இருக்க முடியாது’ என்று அவரிடம் கூறினார்.

அந்த வீட்டுப் பொறுப்பாளர், ‘நான் என்ன செய்வேன்? வீட்டுப் பொறுப்பிலிருந்து என் தலைவர் என்னை நீக்கிவிடப் போகிறாரே! மண் வெட்டவோ என்னால் இயலாது; இரந்து உண்ணவும் வெட்கமாய் இருக்கிறது. வீட்டுப் பொறுப்பிலிருந்து என்னை நீக்கிவிடும்போது பிறர் என்னைத் தங்கள் வீடுகளில் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும்படி நான் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் என எனக்குத் தெரியும்’ என்று அவர் தமக்குள்ளே சொல்லிக் கொண்டார்.

பின்பு அவர் தம் தலைவரிடம் கடன்பட்டவர்களை ஒவ்வொருவராக வரவழைத்தார். முதலாவது வந்தவரிடம், ‘நீர் என் தலைவரிடம் எவ்வளவு கடன்பட்டிருக்கிறீர்?’ என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவர், ‘நூறு குடம் எண்ணெய்’ என்றார். வீட்டுப் பொறுப்பாளர் அவரிடம், ‘இதோ உம் கடன் சீட்டு; உட்கார்ந்து ஐம்பது என்று உடனே எழுதும்’ என்றார். பின்பு அடுத்தவரிடம், ‘நீர் எவ்வளவு கடன்பட்டிருக்கிறீர்?’ என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவர், ‘நூறு மூடை கோதுமை’ என்றார். அவர், ‘இதோ, உம் கடன் சீட்டு; எண்பது என்று எழுதும்’ என்றார்.

நேர்மையற்ற அந்த வீட்டுப் பொறுப்பாளர் முன்மதியோடு செயல் பட்டதால், தலைவர் அவரைப் பாராட்டினார். ஏனெனில், ஒளியின் மக்களைவிட இவ்வுலகின் மக்கள் தங்கள் தலைமுறையினரிடத்தில் மிக்க முன்மதியுள்ளவர்களாய் நடந்து கொள்ளுகிறார்கள்.

ஆகையால், நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: நேர்மையற்ற செல்வத்தைக் கொண்டு உங்களுக்கு நண்பர்களைத் தேடிக்கொள்ளுங்கள். அது தீரும்பொழுது அவர்கள் உங்களை நிலையான உறைவிடங்களில் ஏற்றுக்கொள்வார்கள்.

மிகச் சிறியவற்றில் நம்பத் தகுந்தவர் பெரியவற்றிலும் நம்பத் தகுந்தவராய் இருப்பார். மிகச் சிறியவற்றில் நேர்மையற்றவர் பெரியவற்றிலும் நேர்மையற்றவராய் இருப்பார். நேர்மையற்ற செல்வத்தைக் கையாளுவதில் நீங்கள் நம்பத் தகாதவராய் இருந்தால் யார் உங்களை நம்பி உண்மைச் செல்வத்தை ஒப்படைப்பார்? பிறருக்கு உரியவற்றைக் கையாளுவதில் நீங்கள் நம்பத் தகாதவர்களாய்ப் போனால் உங்களுக்கு உரியவற்றை உங்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பவர் யார்?

எந்த வீட்டு வேலையாளும் இரு தலைவர்களுக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்ய முடியாது; ஏனெனில், ஒருவரை வெறுத்து மற்றவரிடம் அவர் அன்பு கொள்வார்; அல்லது ஒருவரைச் சார்ந்துகொண்டு மற்றவரைப் புறக்கணிப்பார்.

நீங்கள் கடவுளுக்கும் செல்வத்துக்கும் பணிவிடை செய்ய முடியாது.”

எல்லா மனிதரும் மீட்புப் பெறவும் உண்மையை அறிந்துணரவும் வேண்டுமென கடவுள் விரும்புகிறார்.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் திமொத்தேயுவுக்கு எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 2: 1-8

அன்பிற்குரியவர்களே,

அனைவருக்காகவும் மன்றாடுங்கள்; இறைவனிடம் வேண்டுங்கள்; பரிந்து பேசுங்கள்; நன்றி செலுத்துங்கள். முதன்முதலில் நான் உங்களுக்குத் தரும் அறிவுரை இதுவே. இறைப் பற்றும் கண்ணியமும் நிறைந்தவர்களாய், தொல்லையின்றி அமைதியோடு வாழ அரசர்களுக்காகவும், உயர் நிலையிலுள்ள எல்லா மனிதர்களுக்காகவும் மன்றாடுங்கள். இதுவே நம் மீட்பராகிய கடவுளின் முன் சிறந்ததும் ஏற்புடையதுமாகும். எல்லா மனிதரும் மீட்புப் பெறவும் உண்மையை அறிந்துணரவும் வேண்டுமென அவர் விரும்புகிறார்.

ஏனெனில் கடவுள் ஒருவரே. கடவுளுக்கும் மனிதருக்கும் இடையே இணைப்பாளரும் ஒருவரே. அவரே இயேசு கிறிஸ்து என்னும் மனிதர். அனைவரின் மீட்புக்காக அவர் தம்மையே ஈடாகத் தந்தார்; குறித்த காலத்தில் அதற்குச் சான்று பகர்ந்தார். இதற்காகவே நான் நற்செய்தியை அறிவிப்பவனாகவும் திருத்தூதனாகவும் விசுவாசத்தையும் உண்மையையும் பிற இனத்தாருக்குக் கற்பிக்கும் போதகனாகவும் ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டேன். நான் சொல்வது உண்மையே; பொய் அல்ல.

எனவே, ஆண்கள் சினமும் சொற்பூசலும் இன்றி எவ்விடத்திலும் தூய உள்ளத்தோடு கைகளை உயர்த்தி இறைவேண்டல் செய்யுமாறு விரும்புகின்றேன்.
