அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தமது சொந்த ஊருக்கு வந்து அங்குள்ள தொழுகைக்கூடத்தில் அவர்களுக்குக் கற்பித்தார். அதைக் கேட்டவர்கள் வியப்பில் ஆழ்ந்தார்கள். அவர்கள், “எங்கிருந்து இந்த ஞானம் இவருக்கு வந்தது? எப்படி இந்த வல்ல செயல்களைச் செய்கிறார்? இவர் தச்சருடைய மகன் அல்லவா? இவருடைய தாய் மரியா என்பவர்தானே? யாக்கோபு, யோசேப்பு, சீமோன், யூதா ஆகியோர் இவருடைய சகோதரர் அல்லவா? இவர் சகோதரிகள் எல்லாரும் நம்மோடு இருக்கிறார்கள் அல்லவா? பின் இவருக்கு இவை எல்லாம் எங்கிருந்து வந்தன?” என்றார்கள். இவ்வாறு அவரை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள அவர்கள் தயங்கினார்கள்.

இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “தம் சொந்த ஊரிலும் வீட்டிலும் தவிர மற்றெங்கும் இறைவாக்கினர் மதிப்புப் பெறுவர்” என்றார். அவர்களுக்கு நம்பிக்கை இல்லாததால் அவர் அங்குப் பல வல்ல செயல்களைச் செய்யவில்லை.

அது அவ்வாறே ஆயிற்று. கடவுள் தாம் உருவாக்கிய அனைத்தையும் நோக்கினார். அவை மிகவும் நன்றாய் இருந்தன. மாலையும் காலையும் நிறைவுற்று ஆறாம் நாள் முடிந்தது.

On the Sabbath following Paul's first sermon in Antioch in Pisidia, almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. When the Jews saw the crowds, they were inflamed with jealousy; they contradicted Paul's words and cursed him. Paul and Barnabas confidently declared to them: “It is to you first of all that it is necessary to address the word of God. Since you reject it and yourselves do not deem yourselves worthy of eternal life, well! we look to the heathen nations. This is the command that the Lord has given us: I have made you the light of the nations so that, thanks to you, salvation may reach the ends of the earth. ஆனால் இறந்த அவரைக் கடவுள் உயிரோடு எழுப்பினார். அவர் கலிலேயாவிலிருந்து தம்முடன் எருசலேம் வந்தவர்களுக்குப் பல நாள்கள் தோன்றினார். அவர்கள் இப்போது அவர்தம் சாட்சிகளாக மக்கள் முன் விளங்குகின்றார்கள். இயேசுவைக் கடவுள் உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்ததன் வழியாக மூதாதையருக்கு அளித்த வாக்குறுதியை அவர்கள் பிள்ளை களாகிய நமக்கென நிறைவேற்றினார். இதுவே நாங்கள் உங்களுக்கு அறிவிக்கும் நற்செய்தி. இதுபற்றி இரண்டாம் திருப்பாடலில்,

‘நீரே என் மகன், இன்று நான் உம்மை ஈன்றெடுத்தேன்’ என்று எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது.”

திருத்தூதர் பணிகள் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 13: 13-25

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

பவுலும் அவரோடு இருந்தவர்களும் பாப்போவிலிருந்து கப்பலேறி, பம்பிலியாவிலுள்ள பெருகை நகருக்கு வந்தார்கள். அங்கே யோவான் அவர்களைவிட்டு அகன்று எருசலேமுக்குத் திரும்பினார். அவர்கள் பெருகையிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுச் சென்று பிசிதியாவிலுள்ள அந்தி யோக்கியாவை அடைந்தார்கள். ஓய்வுநாளன்று அவர்கள் தொழுகைக் கூடத்திற்குச் சென்று அங்கு அமர்ந்திருந்தார்கள். திருச்சட்டமும் இறைவாக்கினர் நூல்களும் வாசித்து முடிந்தபின் தொழுகைக்கூடத் தலைவர்கள் அவர்களிடம் ஆள் அனுப்பி, “சகோதரரே, உங்களுள் யாராவது மக்களுக்கு அறிவுரை கூறுவதாயிருந்தால் கூறலாம்” என்று கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்கள்.

அப்போது பவுல் எழுந்து கையால் சைகை காட்டிவிட்டுக் கூறியது: “இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களே, கடவுளுக்கு அஞ்சுவோரே, கேளுங்கள். இந்த இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் கடவுள் நம்முடைய மூதாதையரைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார்; அவர்கள் எகிப்து நாட்டில் அன்னியர்களாகத் தங்கியிருந்தபோது அவர்களை ஒரு பெரிய மக்களினமாக்கினார். பின்பு அவர் தம் தோள்வலிமையைக் காட்டி அவர்களை அந்த நாட்டைவிட்டு வெளியே அழைத்துக்கொண்டு வந்தார்; நாற்பது ஆண்டு காலமாய்ப் பாலைநிலத்தில் அவர்களிடம் மிகுந்த பொறுமை காட்டினார். அவர் கானான் நாட்டின்மீது ஏழு மக்களினங்களை அழித்து அவர்கள் நாட்டை இவர்களுக்கு ஏறக்குறைய நானூற்றைம்பது ஆண்டுகள் உரிமைச் சொத்தாக அளித்தார்; அதன்பின்பு இறைவாக்கினர் சாமுவேலின் காலம் வரை அவர்களுக்கு நீதித் தலைவர்களை அளித்தார்.

பின்பு அவர்கள் தங்களுக்கு ஓர் அரசர் வேண்டும் என்று கேட்டார்கள். கடவுள் கீசு என்பவரின் மகனான சவுல் என்பவரை அவர்களுக்கு அரசராகக் கொடுத்தார். பென்யமின் குலத்தினராகிய அவர் நாற்பது ஆண்டுகள் ஆட்சி செலுத்தினார். பின்பு கடவுள் அவரை நீக்கிவிட்டுத் தாவீதை அவர்களுக்கு அரசராக ஏற்படுத்தினார்; அவரைக் குறித்து ‘ஈசாயின் மகனான தாவீதை என் இதயத்துக்கு உகந்தவனாகக் கண்டேன்; என் விருப்பம் அனைத்தையும் அவன் நிறைவேற்றுவான்’ என்று சான்று பகர்ந்தார்.

தாம் அளித்த வாக்குறுதியின்படி கடவுள் அவருடைய வழிமரபிலிருந்தே இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு இயேசு என்னும் மீட்பர் தோன்றச் செய்தார். அவருடைய வருகைக்கு முன்பே யோவான், ‘மனம் மாறி திருமுழுக்குப் பெறுங்கள்’ என்று இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் பறைசாற்றி வந்தார். யோவான் தம் வாழ்க்கை என்னும் ஓட்டத்தை முடிக்கும் தறுவாயில், ‘நான் யார் என நீங்கள் நினைக்கிறீர்களோ அவரல்ல நான். இதோ, எனக்குப்பின் ஒருவர் வருகிறார்; அவருடைய மிதியடிகளை அவிழ்க்கவும் எனக்குத் தகுதி இல்லை’ என்று கூறினார்.”

'In all truth I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, no messenger is greater than the one who sent him.

'Now that you know this, blessed are you if you behave accordingly.

I am not speaking about all of you: I know the ones I have chosen; but what scripture says must be fulfilled: 'He who shares my table takes advantage of me.

I tell you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe that I am He.

God has raised up for Israel one of David's descendants, Jesus, as Saviour, 

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles 13:13-25 

Paul and his companions went by sea from Paphos to Perga in Pamphylia where John left them to go back to Jerusalem.

The others carried on from Perga till they reached Antioch in Pisidia. Here they went to synagogue on the Sabbath and took their seats.

After the passages from the Law and the Prophets had been read, the presidents of the synagogue sent them a message, 'Brothers, if you would like to address some words of encouragement to the congregation, please do so.'

Paul stood up, raised his hand for silence and began to speak: 'Men of Israel, and fearers of God, listen!

The God of our nation Israel chose our ancestors and made our people great when they were living in Egypt, a land not their own; then by divine power he led them out

and for about forty years took care of them in the desert.

When he had destroyed seven nations in Canaan, he put them in possession of their land

for about four hundred and fifty years. After this he gave them judges, down to the prophet Samuel.

Then they demanded a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin. After forty years,

he deposed him and raised up David to be king, whom he attested in these words, "I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who will perform my entire will."

To keep his promise, God has raised up for Israel one of David's descendants, Jesus, as Saviour,

whose coming was heralded by John when he proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the whole people of Israel.

Before John ended his course he said, "I am not the one you imagine me to be; there is someone coming after me whose sandal I am not fit to undo."

இவ்வாறு தூய ஆவியாரால் அனுப்பப்பட்டவர்கள் செலூக்கியாவுக்குச் சென்றார்கள்; அங்கிருந்து சைப்பிரசுக்குக் கப்பலேறினார்கள். அவர்கள் சாலமி நகருக்கு வந்து அங்குள்ள யூதரின் தொழுகைக் கூடங்களில் கடவுளின் வார்த்தையை அறிவித்தார்கள்; யோவானைத் தங்கள் உதவியாளராகக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

I, who am the light, have come into the world so that whoever believes in me will not remain in darkness. If anyone hears my words and does not stay true to them, I do not judge him, for I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. Whoever rejects me and does not accept my words will have the word that I have spoken to judge him: it is this who will judge him at the last day. Because it was not on my own initiative that I spoke: the Father himself, who sent me, gave me his command on what I must say and declare; and I know his command is eternal life. So what I declare, I declare as the Father told me. "

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (12, 24 - 13, 5) 

In those days, the word of God was fruitful and multiplied. Barnabas and Saul, having completed their service for Jerusalem, returned to Antioch, taking with them John nicknamed Mark. Now there were in the Church which was in Antioch prophets and men charged with teaching: Barnabas, Simeon called Le Noir, Lucius of Cyrene, Manahene, childhood companion of Herod the Tetrarch, and Saul. One day as they were celebrating the worship of the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said to them: “Set apart Barnabas and Saul for me in view of the work to which I have called them. So after they fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they let them go. They therefore, sent by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there embarked for Cyprus; arrived in Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They had Jean-Marc as an auxiliary.

எருசலேமில் கோவில் அர்ப்பண விழா நடந்துகொண்டிருந்தது. அப்போது குளிர்காலம். கோவிலின் சாலமோன் மண்டபத்தில் இயேசு நடந்துகொண்டிருந்தார். யூதர்கள் அவரைச் சூழ்ந்துகொண்டு, “இன்னும் எவ்வளவு காலம் நாங்கள் காத்திருக்க வேண்டும்? நீர் மெசியாவானால் அதை எங்களிடம் வெளிப்படையாகச் சொல்லிவிடும்” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

இயேசு மறுமொழியாக, “நான் உங்களிடம் சொன்னேன்; நீங்கள்தான் நம்பவில்லை. என் தந்தையின் பெயரால் நான் செய்யும் செயல்களே எனக்குச் சான்றாக அமைகின்றன. ஆனால் நீங்கள் நம்பாமல் இருக்கிறீர்கள். ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் என் மந்தையைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள் அல்ல. என் ஆடுகள் எனது குரலுக்குச் செவிசாய்க்கின்றன. எனக்கும் அவற்றைத் தெரியும். அவையும் என்னைப் பின்தொடர்கின்றன. நான் அவற்றிற்கு நிலைவாழ்வை அளிக்கிறேன். அவை என்றுமே அழியா. அவற்றை எனது கையிலிருந்து யாரும் பறித்துக்கொள்ளமாட்டார்.

அவற்றை எனக்கு அளித்த என் தந்தை அனைவரையும்விடப் பெரியவர். அவற்றை என் தந்தையின் கையிலிருந்து யாரும் பறித்துக் கொள்ள இயலாது. நானும் தந்தையும் ஒன்றாய் இருக்கிறோம்” என்றார்.

ஸ்தேவானை முன்னிட்டு உண்டான துன்புறுத்தலால் மக்கள் பெனிசியா, சைப்பிரசு, அந்தியோக்கியா வரை சிதறிப்போயினர். அவர்கள் யூதருக்கு மட்டுமே இறைவார்த்தையை அறிவித்தார்கள்; வேறு எவருக்கும் அறிவிக்கவில்லை. அவர்களுள் சைப்பிரசு, சிரேன் ஆகிய இடங்களைச் சேர்ந்த சிலர் இருந்தனர். அவர்கள் அந்தியோக்கியாவுக்கு வந்து அங்குள்ள கிரேக்கரை அணுகி ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசுவைப் பற்றிய நற்செய்தியை அறிவித்தார்கள். ஆண்டவரின் கைவன்மையை அவர்கள் பெற்றிருந்தார்கள். பெருந்தொகையான மக்கள் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டு ஆண்டவரிடம் திரும்பினர்.

இந்தச் செய்தி எருசலேம் திருச்சபையினரின் காதில் விழவே அவர்கள் பர்னபாவை அந்தியோக்கியா வரை சென்றுவர அனுப்பி வைத்தார்கள். அவர் அங்குச் சென்றபோது, கடவுளின் அருள்செயலைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தார்; மேலும் உறுதியான உள்ளத்தோடு ஆண்டவரைச் சார்ந்திருக்குமாறு அனைவரையும் ஊக்கப்படுத்தினார். அவர் நல்லவர்; தூய ஆவியால் ஆட்கொள்ளப்பட்டு நம்பிக்கை நிறைந்தவராய்ப் பெருந்திரளான மக்களை ஆண்டவரிடம் சேர்த்தார்.

பின்பு சவுலைத் தேடி அவர் தர்சு நகர் சென்றார்; அவரைக் கண்டு, அந்தியோக்கியாவுக்கு அழைத்துவந்தார். அவர்கள் ஓராண்டு முழுவதும் அந்தச் சபையாரோடு கூடவே இருந்து பெருந்திரளான மக்களுக்குக் கற்பித்து வந்தார்கள். அந்தியோக்கியாவில்தான் முதல் முறையாகச் சீடர்கள் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் என்னும் பெயரைப் பெற்றார்கள்.

The feast of the dedication of the Temple was celebrated in Jerusalem. It was winter. Jesus came and went in the Temple, under Solomon's colonnade. The Jews formed a circle around him; they said to him: "How long are you going to keep us going? If you are the Christ, tell us openly! Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe." "Some addressed themselves to people of Greek language to announce them the Good News" 

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (11, 19-26) 

In those days, the brethren, dispersed by the turmoil which occurred during the Stephen's affair, went as far as Phenicia, then to Cyprus and Antioch, without announcing the Word to anyone other than the Jews. Among them, there were some who were from Cyprus and Cyrene, and who, when they arrived in Antioch, also addressed themselves to the Greek-speaking people to announce them the Good News: Jesus is the Lord. The hand of the Lord was with them: a great number of people became believers and turned to the Lord. The news reached the ears of the Church in Jerusalem, and Barnabas was sent to Antioch. When he arrived, seeing the grace of God at work, he was overjoyed. He exhorted them all to remain with a steadfast heart attached to the Lord. He was indeed a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. A large crowd clung to the Lord. Barnabas then went to Tarsus to seek Saul. Having found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they attended Church assemblies, educating large crowds. And it was in Antioch that, for the first time, the disciples received the name of "Christians".

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு கூறியது: ‘‘உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: ஆட்டுக் கொட்டிலில் வாயில் வழியாக நுழையாமல் வேறு வழியாக ஏறிக் குதிப்போர் திருடர் அல்லது கொள்ளையராய் இருப்பர். வாயில் வழியாக நுழைபவர் ஆடுகளின் ஆயர். அவருக்கே காவலர் வாயிலைத் திறந்துவிடுவார். ஆடுகளும் அவரது குரலுக்கே செவிசாய்க்கும். அவர் தம்முடைய சொந்த ஆடுகளைப் பெயர் சொல்லிக் கூப்பிட்டு வெளியே கூட்டிச் செல்வார். தம்முடைய சொந்த ஆடுகள் அனைத்தையும் வெளியே ஓட்டி வந்தபின் அவர் அவற்றிற்கு முன் செல்வார். ஆடுகளும் அவரைப் பின்தொடரும். ஏனெனில் அவரது குரல் அவற்றுக்குத் தெரியும். அறியாத ஒருவரை அவை பின்தொடரா. அவரை விட்டு அவை ஓடிப்போகும். ஏனெனில் அவரது குரல் அவற்றுக்குத் தெரியாது.”

இயேசு அவர்களிடம் உவமையாக இவ்வாறு சொன்னார். ஆனால் அவர் சொன்னதை அவர்கள் புரிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை.

திருத்தூதர் பணிகள் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 11: 1-18

அந்நாள்களில்

பிற இனத்தவரும் கடவுளின் வார்த்தையை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டதைப்பற்றித் திருத்தூதர்களும் யூதேயாவிலுள்ள சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளும் கேள்விப்பட்டார்கள். பேதுரு எருசலேமுக்குத் திரும்பிவந்தபோது, விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொண்டவர்கள் அவரோடு வாதிட்டனர். ‘‘நீர் ஏன் விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொள்ளாதோரிடம் சென்று அவர்களுடன் உணவு உண்டீர்?” என்று குறை கூறினர்.

பேதுரு நடந்தவற்றை ஒன்றன்பின் ஒன்றாக விளக்கிக் கூறத் தொடங்கினார். ‘‘நான் யோப்பா நகரில் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தபோது மெய்ம்மறந்த நிலையில் ஒரு காட்சி கண்டேன். பெரிய கப்பற்பாயைப் போன்ற ஒரு விரிப்பு நான்கு முனைகளிலும் கட்டப்பட்டு வானத்திலிருந்து இறக்கப்பட்டு என்னிடம் வந்தது. அதை நான் கவனமாக நோக்கியபோது, தரையில் நடப்பன, ஊர்வன, வானில் பறப்பன, காட்டு விலங்குகள் ஆகியவற்றைக் கண்டேன். ‘பேதுரு, எழுந்திடு! இவற்றைக் கொன்று சாப்பிடு’ என்னும் ஒரு குரல் ஒலிப்பதையும் கேட்டேன். அதற்கு நான், ‘வேண்டவே வேண்டாம் ஆண்டவரே, தீட்டானதும் தூய்மையற்றதுமான எதுவும் ஒருபோதும் என் வாய்க்குள் சென்றதில்லையே’ என்றேன். இரண்டாம் முறையும் வானிலிருந்து மறுமொழியாக, ‘தூய்மையானது எனக் கடவுள் கருதுவதைத் தீட்டாகக் கருதாதே’ என்று அக்குரல் ஒலித்தது. இப்படி மும்முறை நடந்தபின்பு யாவும் வானத்துக்கு மீண்டும் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்பட்டன.

அந்நேரத்தில் செசரியாவிலிருந்து என்னிடம் அனுப்பப்பட்ட மூவர் நான் தங்கியிருந்த வீட்டின் முன் வந்து நின்றனர். தூய ஆவியார் என்னிடம், ‘தயக்கம் ஏதுமின்றி அவர்களோடு செல்’ என்று கூறினார். உடனே நானும் இந்த ஆறு சகோதரர்களுமாக அந்த மனிதர் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றோம். அவர் தம் வீட்டில் வானதூதர் வந்து நின்றதைக் கண்டதாகவும், அத்தூதர் பேதுரு என்னும் பெயர் கொண்ட சீமோனை வரவழையும்; நீரும் உம் வீட்டார் அனைவரும் மீட்புப் பெறுவதற்கான வார்த்தைகளை அவர் உம்மோடு பேசுவார் என்று தமக்குக் கூறியதாகவும் எங்களுக்கு அறிவித்தார். நான் பேசத்தொடங்கியதும் தூய ஆவி முதலில் நம்மீது இறங்கி வந்ததுபோல் அவர்கள் மீதும் இறங்கி வந்தது. அப்போது, ‘யோவான் தண்ணீரால் திருமுழுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்; ஆனால் நீங்கள் தூய ஆவியால் திருமுழுக்குப் பெறுவீர்கள்’ என்ற ஆண்டவரின் வார்த்தைகளை நான் நினைவு கூர்ந்தேன். இப்போதும் ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொண்டபோது நமக்கு அருளப்பட்ட அதே கொடையைக் கடவுள் அவர்களுக்கும் கொடுத்தார் என்றால் கடவுளைத் தடுக்க நான் யார்?” என்றார்.

இவற்றைக் கேட்டு அவர்கள் அமைதி அடைந்தனர்; வாழ்வுக்கு வழியான மனமாற்றத்தைப் பிற இனத்தவருக்கும் கடவுள் கொடுத்தார் என்று கூறி அவரைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தார்கள்.

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (10, 1-10) 

At that time Jesus said: "Amen, amen, I say to you: he who enters the sheep pen without going through the door, but who climbs by another place, he is a thief and a bandit. The one who enters by the door is the shepherd, the shepherd of the sheep. The porter opens the door for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. His own sheep he calls each by name, and he brings them out. When he has pushed out all of his, he walks at their head, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. They will never follow a stranger, but they will run away from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers. "

Jesus used this image to address the Pharisees, but they did not understand what he was talking about to them. This is why Jesus spoke again: “Amen, amen, I say to you: I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. In those days the Apostles and the brethren who were in Judea had learned that the nations, too, had received the word of God. When Peter returned to Jerusalem, those who were originally Jewish took him to task, saying: "You entered the house of men who are not circumcised, and you ate with them!" Then Peter took up the matter from the beginning and told them everything in order, saying: "I was in the city of Jaffa, praying, and this is the vision I had in an ecstasy: it was an object which descended. It looked like a large canvas held at the four corners; coming from the sky, it landed near me. Fixing my eyes on her, I examined her and saw the quadrupeds of the earth, the wild beasts, the reptiles and the birds of the air. I heard a voice saying to me: “Get up, Peter, offer them as a sacrifice, and eat! ” I replied: “Certainly not, Lord! Never has any forbidden or unclean food entered my mouth. ” A second time from heaven the voice answered: "What God has declared pure, you do not declare it forbidden." நல்ல ஆயர் ஆடுகளுக்காகத் தம் உயிரைக் கொடுப்பார். 

✠ யோவான் எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 10: 11-18 

அக்காலத்தில் 

இயேசு கூறியது: “நல்ல ஆயன் நானே. நல்ல ஆயர் ஆடுகளுக்காகத் தம் உயிரைக் கொடுப்பார். கூலிக்கு மேய்ப்பவர் ஓநாய் வருவதைக் கண்டு ஆடுகளை விட்டுவிட்டு ஓடிப்போவார். ஏனெனில் அவர் ஆயரும் அல்ல; ஆடுகள் அவருக்குச் சொந்தமும் அல்ல. ஓநாய் ஆடுகளைப் பற்றி இழுத்துக் கொண்டுபோய் மந்தையைச் சிதறடிக்கும். கூலிக்கு மேய்ப்பவருக்கு ஆடுகளைப்பற்றிக் கவலை இல்லை. 

நல்ல ஆயன் நானே. தந்தை என்னை அறிந்திருக்கிறார்; நானும் தந்தையை அறிந்திருக்கிறேன். அதுபோல நானும் என் ஆடுகளை அறிந்திருக்கிறேன்; என் ஆடுகளும் என்னை அறிந்திருக்கின்றன. அவைகளுக்காக எனது உயிரைக் கொடுக்கிறேன். இக்கொட்டிலைச் சேரா வேறு ஆடுகளும் எனக்கு உள்ளன. நான் அவற்றையும் நடத்திச் செல்ல வேண்டும். அவையும் எனது குரலுக்குச் செவிசாய்க்கும். அப்போது ஒரே மந்தையும் ஒரே ஆயரும் என்னும் நிலை ஏற்படும். தந்தை என்மீது அன்பு செலுத்துகிறார். ஏனெனில் நான் என் உயிரைக் கொடுக்கிறேன்; அதை மீண்டும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளவே கொடுக்கிறேன். 

என் உயிரை என்னிடமிருந்து யாரும் பறித்துக்கொள்வதில்லை. நானாகவே அதைக் கொடுக்கிறேன். உயிரைக் கொடுக்கவும் எனக்கு அதிகாரம் உண்டு; அதை மீண்டும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளவும் அதிகாரம் உண்டு. என் தந்தையின் கட்டளைப்படியே நான் இப்படிச் செய்கிறேன்” என்றார்.

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (10, 11-18) 

At that time, Jesus declared: “I am the good shepherd, the true shepherd, who gives his life for his sheep. The hired shepherd is not the shepherd, the sheep are not his: if he sees the wolf coming, he forsakes the sheep and flees; the wolf grabs them and scatters them. This shepherd is just a hireling, and the sheep don't really matter to him. I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep, and my sheep know me, as the Father knows me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for my sheep. I still have other sheep, which are not from this enclosure: these too, I must lead them. They will listen to my voice: there will be one flock and one shepherd. This is why the Father loves me: because I give my life, to receive it again. No one can take it away from me: I give it of myself. அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு நிலைவாழ்வு அளிக்கும் உணவு பற்றி கற்பித்துக்கொண்டிருந்த பொழுது, சீடர் பலர் இதைக் கேட்டு, “இதை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வது மிகக் கடினம்; இப்பேச்சை இன்னும் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்க முடியுமா?” என்று பேசிக்கொண்டனர். இதுபற்றித் தம் சீடர் முணுமுணுப்பதை இயேசு உணர்ந்து அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் நம்புவதற்கு இது தடையாய் இருக்கிறதா? அப்படியானால் மானிடமகன் தாம் முன்பு இருந்த இடத்திற்கு ஏறிச் செல்வதை நீங்கள் கண்டால் அது உங்களுக்கு எப்படி இருக்கும்? வாழ்வு தருவது தூய ஆவியே; ஊனியல்பு ஒன்றுக்கும் உதவாது. நான் கூறிய வார்த்தைகள் வாழ்வு தரும் ஆவியைக் கொடுக்கின்றன. அப்படியிருந்தும் உங்களுள் சிலர் என்னை நம்பவில்லை” என்றார்.

நம்பாதோர் யார் யார் என்பதும், தம்மைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்க இருப்பவன் யார் என்பதும் இயேசுவுக்குத் தொடக்கத்திலிருந்தே தெரிந்திருந்தது. மேலும் அவர், “இதன் காரணமாகத்தான் ‘என் தந்தை அருள்கூர்ந்தால் அன்றி யாரும் என்னிடம் வர இயலாது’ என்று உங்களுக்குக் கூறினேன்” என்றார்.

அன்றே இயேசுவின் சீடருள் பலர் அவரைவிட்டு விலகினர். அன்று முதல் அவர்கள் அவரோடு சேர்ந்து செல்லவில்லை. இயேசு பன்னிரு சீடரிடம், “நீங்களும் போய்விட நினைக்கிறீர்களா?” என்று கேட்டார். சீமோன் பேதுரு மறுமொழியாக, “ஆண்டவரே நாங்கள் யாரிடம் போவோம்? நிலைவாழ்வு அளிக்கும் வார்த்தைகள் உம்மிடம்தானே உள்ளன. நீரே கடவுளுக்கு அர்ப்பணமானவர் என்பதை நாங்கள் அறிந்துகொண்டோம். அதை நம்புகிறோம்” என்றார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

யூதேயா, கலிலேயா, சமாரியா ஆகிய பகுதிகளில் எல்லாம் திருச்சபை வளர்ச்சியுற்று, ஆண்டவருக்கு அஞ்சி நடந்து, அமைதியில் திளைத்து, தூய ஆவியாரின் துணையால் பெருகிவந்தது.

பேதுரு எல்லா இடங்களுக்கும் சென்று வந்தார்; ஒரு நாள் லித்தாவில் வாழ்ந்த இறைமக்களிடம் வந்து சேர்ந்தார். அங்கே அவர் எட்டு ஆண்டுகள் முடக்குவாதத்தால் படுக்கையில் கிடந்த ஐனேயா என்னும் பெயருடைய ஒருவரைக் கண்டார்; அவரிடம், “ஐனேயா, இயேசு கிறிஸ்து உம் பிணியைப் போக்குகிறார்; எழுந்து உம் படுக்கையை நீரே சரிப்படுத்தும்” என்று பேதுரு கூறினார். உடனே அவர் எழுந்தார். லித்தாவிலும் சாரோனிலும் வாழ்ந்து வந்தவர்கள் அனைவரும் அதைக் கண்டு ஆண்டவரிடம் திரும்பினார்கள்.

யோப்பா நகரில் தபித்தா என்னும் பெயருடைய பெண் சீடர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவர் தொற்கா என்றும் அழைக்கப்பட்டார்; நன்மை செய்வதிலும் இரக்கச் செயல்கள் புரிவதிலும் அவர் முற்றிலும் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தார். உடல்நலம் குன்றி ஒரு நாள் அவர் இறந்துவிட்டார். அங்கிருந்தோர் அவரது உடலைக் குளிப்பாட்டி மேல்மாடியில் கிடத்தியிருந்தனர். யோப்பாவிற்கு அருகிலுள்ள லித்தாவுக்குப் பேதுரு வந்திருப்பதைச் சீடர்கள் கேள்விப்பட்டு இருவரை அவரிடம் அனுப்பி, “எங்களிடம் உடனே வாருங்கள்” என்று கெஞ்சிக் கேட்டார்கள்.

பேதுரு புறப்பட்டு அவர்களோடு வந்தார். வந்ததும் அவர்கள் அவரை மேல்மாடிக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றார்கள். கைம்பெண்கள் அவரருகில் வந்து நின்று, தொற்கா தங்களோடு இருந்தபோது செய்துகொடுத்த எல்லா அங்கிகளையும் ஆடைகளையும் காண்பித்தவாறே அழுதார்கள். பேதுரு அனைவரையும் வெளியே அனுப்பிவிட்டு, முழந்தாள்படியிட்டு இறைவனிடம் வேண்டினார்; அவரது உடலின் பக்கமாகத் திரும்பி, “தபித்தா, எழுந்திடு” என்றார். உடனே அவர் கண்களைத் திறந்து பேதுருவைக் கண்டு, எழுந்து உட்கார்ந்தார். பேதுரு அவருடைய கையைப் பிடித்து எழுந்து நிற்கச் செய்தார். இறைமக்களையும் கைம்பெண்களையும் கூப்பிட்டு, அவர்கள்முன் அவரை உயிருடன் நிறுத்தினார்.

இது யோப்பா நகர் முழுவதும் தெரிய வரவே, ஆண்டவர்மீது பலர் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டனர்.

At that time, Jesus had given a teaching in the synagogue of Capernaum. Many of his disciples, who had heard, said: “This is a harsh saying! Who can hear it? Jesus knew to himself that his disciples were complaining about him. He said to them: "Does this scandalize you? And when you see the Son of man ascend where he was before!… It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is not capable of anything. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
