Why this tumult of nations,
this vain murmur of peoples?
The Lord said to me: “You are my son;
I, today, begotten you. R
“Ask, and I will give you the nations
for an inheritance, the whole earth for your domain.
You will destroy them with your iron scepter,
you will break them like a potter's vessel. R
Now, kings, understand,
correct yourselves, judges of the earth.
Serve the Lord with fear,
do your homage to him with trembling. R
