இயேசு தமக்குரியோர்மேல் இறுதிவரையும் அன்பு செலுத்தினார்.

யோவான் எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 13: 1-15

பாஸ்கா விழா தொடங்க இருந்தது. தாம் இவ்வுலகத்தை விட்டுத் தந்தையிடம் செல்வதற்கான நேரம் வந்துவிட்டது என்பதை இயேசு அறிந்திருந்தார். உலகில் வாழ்ந்த தமக்குரியோர்மேல் அன்பு கொண்டிருந்த அவர் அவர்கள்மேல் இறுதிவரையும் அன்பு செலுத்தினார்.

இயேசுவைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கும் எண்ணத்தை அலகை சீமோனின் மகனாகிய யூதாசு இஸ்காரியோத்தின் உள்ளத்தில் எழச் செய்திருந்தது. இரவுணவு வேளையில், தந்தை அனைத்தையும் தம் கையில் ஒப்படைத்துள்ளார் என்பதையும் தாம் கடவுளிடமிருந்து வந்ததுபோல் அவரிடமே திரும்பச் செல்ல வேண்டும் என்பதையும் அறிந்தவராய், இயேசு பந்தியிலிருந்து எழுந்து, தம் மேலுடையைக் கழற்றி வைத்துவிட்டு, ஒரு துண்டை எடுத்து இடுப்பில் கட்டிக்கொண்டார். பின்னர் ஒரு குவளையில் தண்ணீர் எடுத்துச் சீடர்களுடைய காலடிகளைக் கழுவி இடுப்பில் கட்டியிருந்த துண்டால் துடைக்கத் தொடங்கினார்.

சீமோன் பேதுருவிடம் இயேசு வந்தபோது அவர், “ஆண்டவரே, நீரா என் காலடிகளைக் கழுவப் போகிறீர்?” என்று கேட்டார். இயேசு மறுமொழியாக, “நான் செய்வது இன்னதென்று இப்போது உனக்குப் புரியாது; பின்னரே புரிந்துகொள்வாய்” என்றார். பேதுரு அவரிடம், “நீர் என் காலடிகளைக் கழுவ விடவேமாட்டேன்” என்றார். இயேசு அவரைப் பார்த்து, “நான் உன் காலடிகளைக் கழுவாவிட்டால் என்னோடு உனக்குப் பங்கு இல்லை” என்றார். அப்போது சீமோன் பேதுரு, “அப்படியானால் ஆண்டவரே, என் காலடிகளை மட்டும் அல்ல, என் கைகளையும் தலையையும்கூடக் கழுவும்” என்றார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “குளித்துவிட்டவர் தம் காலடிகளை மட்டும் கழுவினால் போதும். அவர் தூய்மையாகிவிடுவார். நீங்களும் தூய்மையாய் இருக்கிறீர்கள். ஆனாலும் அனைவரும் தூய்மையாய் இல்லை” என்றார். தம்மைக் காட்டிக் கொடுப்பவன் எவன் என்று அவருக்கு ஏற்கெனவே தெரிந்திருந்தது. எனவேதான் ‘உங்களுள் அனைவரும் தூய்மையாய் இல்லை’ என்றார்.

அவர்களுடைய காலடிகளைக் கழுவியபின் இயேசு தம் மேலுடையை அணிந்துகொண்டு மீண்டும் பந்தியில் அமர்ந்து அவர்களிடம் கூறியது: “நான் உங்களுக்குச் செய்தது என்னவென்று உங்களுக்குப் புரிந்ததா? நீங்கள் என்னைப் ‘போதகர்’ என்றும் ‘ஆண்டவர்’ என்றும் அழைக்கிறீர்கள். நீங்கள் அவ்வாறு கூப்பிடுவது முறையே. நான் போதகர்தான், ஆண்டவர்தான். ஆகவே ஆண்டவரும் போதகருமான நான் உங்கள் காலடிகளைக் கழுவினேன் என்றால் நீங்களும் ஒருவர் மற்றவருடைய காலடிகளைக் கழுவக் கடமைப்பட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள். நான் செய்ததுபோல நீங்களும் செய்யுமாறு நான் உங்களுக்கு முன்மாதிரி காட்டினேன்” என்றார்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

Speak thus to the whole community of Israel: on the tenth of this month, let one take one lamb per family, one lamb per house. If the household is too small for a lamb, it will take it with its nearest neighbor, depending on the number of people. You will choose the lamb based on what everyone can eat. பன்னிருவருள் ஒருவனாகிய யூதாசு இஸ்காரியோத்து தலைமைக் குருவிடம் வந்து, ‘‘இயேசுவை உங்களுக்கு நான் காட்டிக்கொடுத்தால் எனக்கு என்ன தருவீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்டான். அவர்களும் முப்பது வெள்ளிக் காசுகளை எண்ணி அவனுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள். அதுமுதல் அவன் அவரைக் காட்டிக்கொடுப்பதற்கு வாய்ப்புத் தேடிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.

புளிப்பற்ற அப்ப விழாவின் முதல் நாளில் சீடர்கள் இயேசுவை அணுகி வந்து, ‘‘நீர் பாஸ்கா விருந்துண்ண நாங்கள் எங்கே ஏற்பாடு செய்யவேண்டும் என விரும்புகிறீர்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள். இயேசு அவர்களிடம், ‘‘நீங்கள் புறப்பட்டு நகருக்குள் சென்று இன்னாரிடம் போய், ‘எனது நேரம் நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது; என் சீடர்களோடு உம் வீட்டில் பாஸ்கா கொண்டாடப்போகிறேன்’ எனப் போதகர் கூறுகிறார் எனச் சொல்லுங்கள்” என்றார். இயேசு தங்களுக்குப் பணித்தபடியே சீடர்கள் செயல்பட்டுப் பாஸ்கா விருந்துக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்தார்கள்.

மாலை வேளையானதும் அவர் பன்னிருவரோடும் பந்தியில் அமர்ந்தார். அவர்கள் உண்டுகொண்டிருந்தபொழுது அவர், ‘‘உங்களுள் ஒருவன் என்னைக் காட்டிக்கொடுப்பான் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்றார். அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் மிகவும் வருத்தமுற்றவர்களாய், ‘‘ஆண்டவரே, அது நானோ?” என ஒவ்வொருவரும் அவரிடம் கேட்கத் தொடங்கினார்கள். அதற்கு அவர், ‘‘என்னுடன் பாத்திரத்தில் தொட்டு உண்பவனே என்னைக் காட்டிக்கொடுப்பான். மானிடமகன், தம்மைப்பற்றி மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ளபடியே போகிறார். ஆனால், ஐயோ! அவரைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கிறவனுக்குக் கேடு; அம்மனிதன் பிறவாதிருந்தால் அவனுக்கு நலமாய் இருந்திருக்கும்” என்றார். அவரைக் காட்டிக்கொடுத்த யூதாசும் ‘‘ரபி, நானோ?” என அவரிடம் கேட்க, இயேசு, ‘‘நீயே சொல்லிவிட்டாய்” என்றார்.

"Let her observe this custom in view of the day of my burial!" 

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (12, 1-11)

Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus lived, whom he had awakened from the dead. A meal was given in honor of Jesus. Martha was doing the service, Lazarus was among the guests with Jesus.

Now, Marie had taken a pound of a very pure perfume and of very great value; she spread the perfume on Jesus' feet, which she wiped off with her hair; the house was filled with the smell of perfume. Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, the one who was going to hand him over, then said: "Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred pieces of silver, which it would have given to the poor?" He spoke thus, not for the sake of the poor, but because he was a thief: as he held the common purse, he took what was put in it. Jesus said to her: "Let her observe this custom in view of the day of my burial!" Poor people, you will always have them with you, but me, you will not always have me. "

Now a large crowd of Jews heard that Jesus was there, and they arrived, not only because of Jesus, but also to see that Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead. The high priests then decided to kill Lazarus too, because many Jews, because of him, were leaving, and believed in Jesus.

He won't cry, he won't raise his voice, he won't make his voice heard outside. He will not break the sagging reed, he will not quench the weakening wick, he will proclaim the righteous in truth. He will not weaken, he will not waver, until he establishes the law on the earth, and the distant islands aspire to receive his laws. "

பாஸ்கா என்னும் புளிப்பற்ற அப்ப விழா நிகழ இன்னும் இரண்டு நாள்கள் இருந்தன. தலைமைக் குருக்களும் மறைநூல் அறிஞரும் இயேசுவை எவ்வாறு சூழ்ச்சியாய்ப் பிடித்துக் கொலை செய்யலாம் என்று வழிதேடிக்கொண்டிருந்தனர்; ஆயினும், ‘விழாவின்போது வேண்டாம்; ஒருவேளை மக்களிடையே கலகம் ஏற்படக் கூடும்’ என்று நினைத்தனர்.

இயேசு, பெத்தானியாவில் தொழுநோயாளர் சீமோன் இல்லத்தில் இருந்தார். அங்கே பந்தியில் அமர்ந்திருந்தபோது இலாமிச்சை நறுமணத் தைலம் கொண்ட படிகச் சிமிழுடன் பெண் ஒருவர் வந்தார். அந்தத் தைலம் கலப்பற்றது, விலையுயர்ந்தது. அவர் அப்படிகச் சிமிழை உடைத்து இயேசுவின் தலையில் ஊற்றினார். ஆனால் அங்கிருந்த சிலர் கோபமடைந்து, “இந்தத் தைலத்தை இவ்வாறு வீணாக்குவதேன்? இதை முந்நூறு தெனாரியத்துக்கும் மேலாக விற்று ஏழைகளுக்குக் கொடுத்திருக்கலாமே,” என்று தங்களுக்குள் பேசிக்கொண்டனர். அப்பெண்மீதும் சீறி எழுந்தனர்.

இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “அவரை விடுங்கள். ஏன் அவருக்குத் தொல்லை கொடுக்கிறீர்கள்? அவர் எனக்குச் செய்தது முறையான செயலே. ஏனெனில் ஏழைகள் எப்போதுமே உங்களோடு இருக்கின்றார்கள். நீங்கள் விரும்பும்போதெல்லாம் அவர்களுக்கு நன்மை செய்ய முடியும். ஆனால் நான் எப்போதும் உங்களோடு இருக்கப்போவதில்லை. இவர் தம்மால் இயன்றதைச் செய்தார். என் அடக்கத்திற்காக இவர் முன்னதாகவே என் உடலுக்குத் தைலம் பூசிவிட்டார். உலகம் முழுவதும் எங்கெல்லாம் நற்செய்தி அறிவிக்கப்படுமோ அங்கெல்லாம் இவர் செய்ததும் எடுத்துக் கூறப்படும்; இவரும் நினைவுகூரப்படுவார் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்று கூறினார்.

பன்னிருவருள் ஒருவனாகிய யூதாசு இஸ்காரியோத்து இயேசுவைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கும் நோக்கத்தோடு தலைமைக் குருக்களிடம் சென்றான். அவர்கள் அதை அறிந்து மகிழ்ச்சியுற்று அவனுக்குப் பணம் கொடுப்பதாக வாக்களித்தனர். அவனும் அவரை எப்படிக் காட்டிக் கொடுக்கலாம் என்று வாய்ப்புத் தேடிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.

புளிப்பற்ற அப்ப விழாவின் முதல் நாள் வந்தது. பாஸ்கா ஆட்டுக் குட்டியைப் பலியிடும் அந்நாளிலே இயேசுவின் சீடர், “நீர் பாஸ்கா விருந்துண்ண நாங்கள் எங்கே சென்று ஏற்பாடு செய்ய வேண்டும் என விரும்புகிறீர்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

அவர் பின்வருமாறு கூறி, தம் சீடருள் இருவரை அனுப்பினார்: “நீங்கள் புறப்பட்டு நகருக்குள் செல்லுங்கள். மண்குடத்தில் தண்ணீர் சுமந்து கொண்டு ஓர் ஆள் உங்களுக்கு எதிரே வருவார். அவர் பின்னே செல்லுங்கள். அவர் எந்த வீட்டுக்குச் செல்கிறாரோ, அந்த வீட்டின் உரிமையாளரிடம், “ ‘நான் என் சீடர்களோடு பாஸ்கா விருந்து உண்பதற்கான என் அறை எங்கே?’ என்று போதகர் கேட்கச் சொன்னார் எனக் கூறுங்கள். அவர் மேல்மாடியில் ஒரு பெரிய அறையைக் காட்டுவார். அது தேவையான வசதிகளோடு தயார் நிலையில் இருக்கும். அங்கே நமக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்யுங்கள்.” சீடர்கள் சென்று, நகரை அடைந்து, தங்களுக்கு அவர் சொல்லியவாறே அனைத்தையும் கண்டு பாஸ்கா விருந்துக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்தார்கள்.

அதற்கு அவர், “அவன் பன்னிருவருள் ஒருவன்; என்னுடன் பாத்திரத்தில் தொட்டு உண்பவன். மானிடமகன் தம்மைப் பற்றி மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ளவாறே போகிறார். ஆனால் ஐயோ! அவரைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கிறவனுக்குக் கேடு! அம்மனிதன் பிறவாதிருந்தால் அவனுக்கு நலமாய் இருந்திருக்கும்” என்றார்.

அவர்கள் உண்டுகொண்டிருந்தபொழுது அவர் அப்பத்தை எடுத்து, கடவுளைப் போற்றி அதைப் பிட்டு, அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்து, “இதைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள்; இது எனது உடல்” என்றார். பின்பு அவர் கிண்ணத்தை எடுத்துக் கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தி அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார். அனைவரும் அதிலிருந்து பருகினர். அப்பொழுது அவர் அவர்களிடம், “இது எனது உடன்படிக்கையின் இரத்தம்; பலருக்காகச் சிந்தப்படும் இரத்தம். இனிமேல் இறையாட்சி வரும் அந்நாளில்தான் நான் திராட்சைப்பழ இரசத்தைக் குடிப்பேன்; அதுவரை ஒருபோதும் குடிக்க மாட்டேன் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்றார். அவர்கள் புகழ்ப் பாடல் பாடிவிட்டு ஒலிவ மலைக்குச் சென்றார்கள்.

இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் அனைவரும் ஓடிப்போவீர்கள். ஏனெனில், ‘ஆயரை வெட்டுவேன்; அப்போது ஆடுகள் சிதறடிக்கப்படும்’ என்று மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ளது. ஆனால் நான் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்ட பின்பு உங்களுக்குமுன்பே கலிலேயாவுக்குப் போவேன்” என்றார்.

பேதுரு அவரிடம், “எல்லாரும் ஓடிப்போய்விட்டாலும் நான் அவ்வாறு செய்யமாட்டேன்” என்றார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “இன்றிரவில் சேவல் இரு முறை கூவுமுன் மும்முறை நீ என்னை மறுதலிப்பாய் என உனக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்றார். அவரோ, “நான் உம்மோடு சேர்ந்து இறக்க வேண்டியிருந்தாலும் உம்மை ஒருபோதும் மறுதலிக்க மாட்டேன்” என்று மிக அழுத்தமாகச் சொன்னார். அப்படியே அவர்கள் அனைவரும் சொன்னார்கள்.

பின்னர் இயேசுவும் சீடர்களும் கெத்சமனி என்னும் பெயர் கொண்ட ஓர் இடத்திற்கு வந்தார்கள். அங்கே அவர் தம் சீடரிடம், “நான் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டும்வரை நீங்கள் இங்கே அமர்ந்திருங்கள்” என்று கூறி, பேதுரு, யாக்கோபு, யோவான் ஆகியோரைத் தம்முடன் கூட்டிச் சென்றார். அப்போது அவர் திகிலும் மனக்கலக்கமும் அடையத் தொடங்கினார். அவர், “எனது உள்ளம் சாவு வருமளவுக்கு ஆழ்துயரம் கொண்டுள்ளது; நீங்கள் இங்கேயே தங்கி விழித்திருங்கள்” என்று அவர்களிடம் கூறினார்.

சற்று அப்பால் சென்று தரையில் விழுந்து, முடியுமானால் அந்த நேரம் தம்மைவிட்டு விலகுமாறு இறைவனிடம் வேண்டினார். “அப்பா, தந்தையே எல்லாம் உம்மால் இயலும். இத்துன்பக் கிண்ணத்தை என்னிடமிருந்து அகற்றும். ஆனாலும் என் விருப்பப்படி அல்ல; உம் விருப்பப்படியே நிகழட்டும்” என்று கூறினார். அதன்பின்பு அவர் வந்து அவர்கள் உறங்கிக்கொண்டிருப்பதைக் கண்டு பேதுருவிடம், “சீமோனே, உறங்கிக்கொண்டா இருக்கிறாய்? ஒரு மணி நேரம் விழித்திருக்க உனக்கு வலுவில்லையா? உங்கள் மனம் ஆர்வம் உடையதுதான்; ஆனால் உடல் வலுவற்றது. எனவே சோதனைக்கு உட்படாதிருக்க விழித்திருந்து இறைவனிடம் வேண்டுங்கள்” என்றார்.

அவர் மீண்டும் சென்று அதே வார்த்தைகளைச் சொல்லி இறைவனிடம் வேண்டினார். அவர் திரும்பவும் வந்தபோது அவர்கள் உறங்கிக் கொண்டிருப்பதைக் கண்டார். அவர்களுடைய கண்கள் தூக்கக் கலக்கமாய் இருந்தன. அவருக்கு என்ன மறுமொழி கூறுவது என்றே அவர்களுக்குத் தெரியவில்லை. அவர் மூன்றாம் முறை வந்து அவர்களை நோக்கி, “இன்னும் உறங்கி ஓய்வெடுக்கிறீர்களா? போதும், நேரம் வந்துவிட்டது. மானிடமகன் பாவிகளின் கையில் ஒப்புவிக்கப்படப் போகிறார். எழுந்திருங்கள், போவோம். இதோ, என்னைக் காட்டிக் கொடுப்பவன் நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டான்” என்று கூறினார்.

இயேசு தொடர்ந்து பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது பன்னிருவருள் ஒருவனான யூதாசு வந்தான். அவனோடு தலைமைக் குருக்கள், மறைநூல் அறிஞர், மூப்பர் ஆகியோர் அனுப்பிய மக்கள் கூட்டம் வாள்களோடும், தடிகளோடும் வந்தது. அவரைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கவிருந்தவன், “நான் ஒருவரை முத்தமிடுவேன். அவர்தாம் இயேசு. அவரைப் பிடித்துக் காவலோடு கொண்டுபோங்கள்” என்று அவர்களுக்கு அடையாளம் சொல்லியிருந்தான். அவன் வந்ததும் உடனடியாக அவரை அணுகி, “ரபி” எனக் கூறிக்கொண்டே அவரை முத்தமிட்டான். அவர்களும் அவரைப் பற்றிப் பிடித்துக் கைது செய்தனர். அருகில் நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தவர்களுள் ஒருவர் தம் வாளை உருவி, தலைமைக் குருவின் பணியாளரைத் தாக்கி அவருடைய காதைத் துண்டித்தார்.

இயேசு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “கள்வனைப் பிடிக்க வருவதுபோல வாள்களோடும் தடிகளோடும் என்னைக் கைது செய்ய வந்தது ஏன்? நான் நாள்தோறும் கோவிலில் கற்பித்துக்கொண்டு உங்களோடு இருந்தேன். நீங்கள் என்னைப் பிடிக்கவில்லையே! ஆனால் மறைநூலில் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளவை நிறைவேற வேண்டும்” என்றார். அப்பொழுது சீடர் அனைவரும் அவரை விட்டுவிட்டுத் தப்பி ஓடினர். இளைஞர் ஒருவர் தம் வெறும் உடம்பின் மீது ஒரு நார்ப்பட்டுத் துணியைப் போர்த்திக்கொண்டு அவர் பின்னே சென்றார்; அவரைப் பிடித்தார்கள். ஆனால் அவர் துணியை விட்டுவிட்டு ஆடையின்றித் தப்பி ஓடினார்.

அவர்கள் இயேசுவைத் தலைமைக் குருவிடம் கூட்டிச் சென்றார்கள். எல்லாத் தலைமைக் குருக்களும் மூப்பர்களும் மறைநூல் அறிஞர்களும் ஒன்றுகூடினார்கள். பேதுரு தொலையில் அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தார். தலைமைக் குருவின் வீட்டு உள்முற்றம்வரை வந்து காவலரோடு உட்கார்ந்து நெருப்பின் அருகே அவர் குளிர்காய்ந்துகொண்டிருந்தார்.

தலைமைக் குருக்களும் தலைமைச் சங்கத்தார் அனைவரும் இயேசுவுக்கு மரண தண்டனை விதிக்க அவருக்கு எதிராகச் சான்று தேடினார்கள். ஆனால் ஒன்றும் கிடைக்கவில்லை. பலர் அவருக்கு எதிராகப் பொய்ச் சான்று சொன்னார்கள். ஆனால் அச்சான்றுகள் ஒன்றுக்கொன்று முரண்பட்டிருந்தன. சிலர் எழுந்து, “மனித கையால் கட்டப்பட்ட இந்தத் திருக்கோவிலை இடித்துவிட்டுக் கையால் கட்டப்படாத வேறொன்றை மூன்று நாளில் நான் கட்டி எழுப்புவேன் என்று இவன் சொல்லக் கேட்டோம்” என்று அவருக்கு எதிராகப் பொய்ச் சான்று கூறினர். அப்படியும் அவர்களுடைய சான்று ஒத்துவரவில்லை. அப்பொழுது தலைமைக் குரு எழுந்து அவர்களின் நடுவே நின்று, “இவர்கள் உனக்கு எதிராகக் கூறும் சான்றுக்கு மறுமொழி ஒன்றும் கூறமாட்டாயா?” என்று இயேசுவைக் கேட்டார். ஆனால் அவர் பேசாதிருந்தார். மறுமொழி ஒன்றும் அவர் கூறவில்லை. மீண்டும் தலைமைக் குரு, “போற்றுதற்குரிய கடவுளின் மகனாகிய மெசியா நீதானோ?” என்று அவரைக் கேட்டார்.

அதற்கு இயேசு, “நானே அவர்; மேலும் மானிடமகன் வல்லவராம் கடவுளின் வலப்புறத்தில் வீற்றிருப்பதையும் வானமேகங்கள் சூழ வருவதையும் காண்பீர்கள்” என்றார். தலைமைக் குருவோ தம் அங்கியைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு, “இன்னும் நமக்குச் சான்றுகள் தேவையா? இவன் கடவுளைப் பழித்துரைத்ததைக் கேட்டீர்களே; உங்களுக்கு என்ன தோன்றுகிறது?” என்று கேட்க, அவர்கள் அனைவரும், “இவன் சாகவேண்டியவன்” என்று தீர்மானித்தார்கள். பின்பு சிலர் அவர்மேல் துப்பவும், அவர் முகத்தை மூடி அவரைக் கையால் குத்தி, “இறைவாக்கினனே, யார் எனச் சொல்” என்று கேட்கவும் தொடங்கினர். காவலரும் அவரைக் கன்னத்தில் அறைந்தனர்.

அப்பொழுது பேதுரு கீழே முற்றத்தில் இருக்க, தலைமைக் குருவின் பணிப்பெண் ஒருவர் வந்து, பேதுரு குளிர்காய்ந்துகொண்டிருக்கக் கண்டு அவரைக் கூர்ந்து நோக்கி, “நீயும் இந்த நாசரேத்து இயேசுவோடு இருந்தவன்தானே” என்றார். அவரோ, “நீர் சொல்வது என்னவென்று எனக்குத் தெரியவில்லை, புரியவுமில்லை” என்று மறுதலித்து, வெளிமுற்றத்திற்குச் சென்றார். அப்பொழுது சேவல் கூவிற்று.

அந்தப் பணிப்பெண் அவரைக் கண்டு சூழஇருந்தவர்களிடம், “இவனும் அவர்களைச் சேர்ந்தவன்தான்” என்று மீண்டும் கூறத் தொடங்கினார். அவர் மீண்டும் மறுதலித்தார். சற்று நேரத்திற்குப்பின் சூழ இருந்தவர்களும், “உண்மையாகவே நீ அவர்களைச் சேர்ந்தவனே. ஏனெனில் நீ ஒரு கலிலேயன்” என்று மீண்டும் பேதுருவிடம் கூறினார்கள். அவரோ, “நீங்கள் குறிப்பிடுகின்ற இந்த மனிதனை எனக்குத் தெரியாது” என்று சொல்லிச் சபிக்கவும் ஆணையிடவும் தொடங்கினார். உடனே இரண்டாம் முறை சேவல் கூவிற்று. அப்பொழுது, “சேவல் இருமுறை கூவுமுன் நீ என்னை மும்முறை மறுதலிப்பாய்” என்று இயேசு தமக்குக் கூறிய சொற்களைப் பேதுரு நினைவுகூர்ந்து மனம் உடைந்து அழுதார்.

பொழுது விடிந்ததும் மூப்பரோடும் மறைநூல் அறிஞரோடும் தலைமைச் சங்கத்தார் அனைவரோடும் தலைமைக் குருக்கள் ஆலோசனை செய்து, இயேசுவைக் கட்டி இழுத்துச் சென்று, பிலாத்திடம் ஒப்புவித்தனர். பிலாத்து அவரை நோக்கி, “நீ யூதரின் அரசனா?” என்று கேட்க அவர், “அவ்வாறு நீர் சொல்கிறீர்” என்று பதில் கூறினார். தலைமைக் குருக்கள் அவர்மீது பல குற்றங்களைச் சுமத்தினார்கள். மீண்டும் பிலாத்து, “நீ பதில் ஒன்றும் சொல்லமாட்டாயா? உன்மீது இத்தனை குற்றங்களைச் சுமத்துகிறார்களே!” என்று அவரிடம் கேட்டான். இயேசுவோ எப்பதிலும் கூறவில்லை. ஆகவே பிலாத்து வியப்புற்றான்.

விழாவின்போது மக்கள் கேட்டுக்கொள்ளும் ஒரு கைதியை அவர்களுக்காகப் பிலாத்து விடுதலை செய்வதுண்டு. பரபா என்னும் கைதி ஒருவன் இருந்தான். ஒரு கலகத்தில் கொலை செய்த கலகக்காரரோடு பிடிபட்டவன் அவன். மக்கள் கூட்டம் வந்து, வழக்கமாய்ச் செய்வதுபோல ஒரு கைதியை விடுதலை செய்யுமாறு பிலாத்துவை வேண்டத் தொடங்கியது. அதற்குப் பிலாத்து, “யூதரின் அரசரை உங்களுக்காக நான் விடுதலை செய்ய வேண்டுமென்று விரும்புகிறீர்களா?” என்று கேட்டான். ஏனெனில் தலைமைக் குருக்கள் பொறாமையால்தான் அவரை ஒப்புவித்திருந்தார்கள் என்று அவன் உணர்ந்திருந்தான். ஆனால் தலைமைக் குருக்கள் தங்களுக்குப் பரபாவையே அவன் விடுதலை செய்ய வேண்டுமெனக் கேட்குமாறு கூட்டத்தினரைத் தூண்டிவிட்டார்கள். பிலாத்து மீண்டும் அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “அப்படியானால் நீங்கள் யூதரின் அரசர் என்று குறிப்பிடும் இவனை நான் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும்?” என்று கேட்டான், அவர்கள், “அவனைச் சிலுவையில் அறையும்” என்று மீண்டும் கத்தினார்கள். அதற்குப் பிலாத்து. “இவன் செய்த குற்றம் என்ன?” என்று கேட்க, அவர்கள், “அவனைச் சிலுவையில் அறையும்” என்று இன்னும் உரக்கக் கத்தினார்கள். ஆகவே பிலாத்து கூட்டத்தினரின் விருப்பத்தை நிறைவேற்றும் வண்ணம் பரபாவை விடுதலை செய்து, இயேசுவைக் கசையால் அடித்து, சிலுவையில் அறையுமாறு ஒப்புவித்தான்.

பிறகு படைவீரர் அவரை ஆளுநர் மாளிகையின் முற்றத்திற்கு இழுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய்ப் படைப்பிரிவினர் அனைவரையும் கூட்டினர்; அவருக்குச் செந்நிற ஆடையை உடுத்தினர்; ஒரு முள்முடி பின்னி அவருக்குச் சூட்டி, “யூதரின் அரசே வாழ்க!” என்று அவரை வாழ்த்தத் தொடங்கினர்; மேலும் கோலால் அவர் தலையில் அடித்து, அவர்மீது துப்பி, முழந்தாள்படியிட்டு அவரை வணங்கினர்; அவரை ஏளனம் செய்தபின் செந்நிற ஆடையைக் கழற்றிவிட்டு அவருடைய ஆடைகளை அணிவித்து அவரைச் சிலுவையில் அறைவதற்காக வெளியே கூட்டிச் சென்றனர்.

அப்பொழுது அலக்சாந்தர், ரூபு ஆகியோரின் தந்தையான சிரேன் ஊரைச் சேர்ந்த சீமோன் என்பவர் வயல்வெளியிலிருந்து வந்து கொண்டிருந்தார். படை வீரர்கள் இயேசுவின் சிலுவையைச் சுமக்கும்படி அவரைக் கட்டாயப்படுத்தினார்கள். அவர்கள் ‘மண்டை ஓட்டு இடம்’ எனப் பொருள்படும் ‘கொல்கொதா'வுக்கு இயேசுவைக் கொண்டு சென்றார்கள்.

அங்கே அவருக்கு வெள்ளைப்போளம் கலந்த திராட்சை இரசத்தைக் குடிக்கக் கொடுத்தார்கள். ஆனால் அவர் அதைப் பெற்றுக் கொள்ளவில்லை. பிறகு அவர்கள் அவரைச் சிலுவையில் அறைந்தார்கள்; குலுக்கல் முறையில் யாருக்கு எது என்று பார்த்து அவருடைய ஆடைகளைத் தங்களுக்குள் பங்கிட்டுக் கொண்டார்கள். அவரைச் சிலுவையில் அறைந்தபோது காலை ஒன்பது மணி. அவரது மரண தண்டனைக்கான காரணத்தை அறிவிக்க “யூதரின் அரசன்” என்று அவர்கள் எழுதி வைத்தார்கள்; அவருடைய வலப்புறம் ஒருவனும் இடப்புறம் ஒருவனுமாக இரு கள்வர்களை அவருடன் சிலுவைகளில் அறைந்தார்கள். இவ்வாறு ‘கொடியவருள் ஒருவராகக் கருதப்பட்டார்’ என்ற மறைநூல் வாக்கு நிறைவேறிற்று.

அவ்வழியே சென்றவர்கள் தங்கள் தலைகளை அசைத்து, “ஆகா, திருக்கோவிலை இடித்து மூன்று நாளில் கட்டி எழுப்புகிறவனே, சிலுவையிலிருந்து இறங்கி உன்னையே விடுவித்துக்கொள்” என்று அவரைப் பழித்துரைத்தார்கள். அவ்வாறே தலைமைக் குருக்கள் மறைநூல் அறிஞர்களுடன் சேர்ந்து அவரை ஏளனம் செய்து, “பிறரை விடுவித்தான், தன்னையே விடுவிக்க முடியவில்லை” என்று தங்களிடையே பேசிக் கொண்டார்கள். அவர்கள், “இஸ்ரயேலின் அரசனாகிய மெசியா இப்போது சிலுவையிலிருந்து இறங்கி வரட்டும்; அப்போது நாங்கள் கண்டு நம்புவோம்” என்றார்கள். அவரோடு சிலுவையில் அறையப்பட்டிருந்தவர்களும் அவரை இகழ்ந்தார்கள்.

நண்பகல் வந்தபொழுது நாடெங்கும் இருள் உண்டாயிற்று. பிற்பகல் மூன்று மணிவரை அது நீடித்தது. பிற்பகல் மூன்று மணிக்கு இயேசு, “எலோயி, எலோயி, லெமா சபக்தானி?” என்று உரக்கக் கத்தினார். “என் இறைவா, என் இறைவா, ஏன் என்னைக் கைவிட்டீர்?” என்பது அதற்குப் பொருள். சூழ நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தவர்களுள் சிலர் அதைக் கேட்டு, “இதோ! எலியாவைக் கூப்பிடுகிறான்” என்றனர். அப்பொழுது அவர்களுள் ஒருவர் ஓடிச்சென்று கடற்பஞ்சை எடுத்து, புளித்த திராட்சை இரசத்தில் தோய்த்து, அதை ஒரு கோலில் மாட்டி, அவருக்குக் குடிக்கக் கொடுத்துக்கொண்டே, “பொறுங்கள், எலியா இவனைக் கீழே இறக்க வருவாரா, பார்ப்போம்” என்றார். இயேசுவோ உரக்கக் கத்தி உயிர் துறந்தார்.

அப்பொழுது திருக்கோவிலின் திரை மேலிருந்து கீழ்வரை இரண்டாகக் கிழிந்தது. அவருக்கு எதிரே நின்றுகொண்டிருந்த நூற்றுவர் தலைவர், அவர் இவ்வாறு உயிர் துறந்ததைக் கண்டு, “இம்மனிதர் உண்மையாகவே இறைமகன்” என்றார்.

பெண்கள் சிலரும் தொலையில் நின்று உற்று நோக்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். அவர்களுள் மகதலா மரியாவும் சின்ன யாக்கோபு, யோசே ஆகியோரின் தாயாகிய மரியாவும், சலோமி என்பவரும் இருந்தனர். இயேசு கலிலேயாவில் இருந்தபோது அவர்கள் அவரைப் பின்பற்றி அவருக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்து வந்தவர்கள். அவருடன் எருசலேமுக்கு வந்திருந்த வேறு பல பெண்களும் அங்கே இருந்தார்கள்.

இதற்குள் மாலை வேளையாகிவிட்டது. அன்று ஓய்வு நாளுக்கு முந்திய ஆயத்த நாளாக இருந்தபடியால், அரிமத்தியா ஊரைச் சேர்ந்த யோசேப்பு என்பவர் துணிவுடன் பிலாத்திடம் போய் இயேசுவின் உடலைக் கேட்டார். அவர் மதிப்புக்குரிய தலைமைச் சங்க உறுப்பினர். அவரும் இறையாட்சியின் வருகைக்காகக் காத்திருந்தவர். ஏற்கெனவே இயேசு இறந்துவிட்டதைக் குறித்துப் பிலாத்து வியப்படைந்து, நூற்றுவர் தலைவரை அழைத்து, “அவன் இதற்குள் இறந்துவிட்டானா?” என்று கேட்டான். நூற்றுவர் தலைவரிடமிருந்து கேட்டு அறிந்ததும் உடலை அவன் யோசேப்பிடம் அளித்தான். யோசேப்பு மெல்லிய துணி ஒன்றை வாங்கி வந்து, இயேசுவின் உடலை இறக்கித் துணியால் சுற்றிப் பாறையில் வெட்டப்பட்டிருந்த கல்லறையில் கொண்டு வைத்தார்; அதன் வாயிலில் ஒரு கல்லை உருட்டி வைத்தார். அவரை எங்கே வைத்தனர் என்பதை மகதலா மரியாவும் யோசேப்பின் தாய் மரியாவும் உற்றுப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தனர்.

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Mark (14, 1 - 15, 47) 

The feast of the Passover and Unleavened Bread would take place two days later. The high priests and the scribes were looking for a way to stop Jesus by trickery, to put him to death. Because they said to themselves: "Not in the middle of a feast, to avoid trouble among the people." Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper. While he was at table, a woman entered with an alabaster flask containing a very pure and valuable perfume. Breaking the bottle, she poured the perfume on his head. However, for their part, some were indignant: "What is the use of wasting this perfume?" We could have sold it for more than three hundred pieces of silver, which we would have given to the poor. And they bullied her. But Jesus said to them, “Leave her alone! Why torment her? It is beautiful, the gesture she made towards me. Poor people, you will always have them with you, and, when you want, you can do them good; but me, you don't have me forever. What she could do, she did. In advance she perfumed my body for my burial. Amen, I tell you: wherever the Gospel will be proclaimed - in the whole world -, we will tell, in remembrance of her, what she has just done. " 

Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the high priests to deliver Jesus to them. At this news, they rejoiced and promised to give him money. And Judas was looking for a way to deliver him at the right time.

On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when the Paschal Lamb was sacrificed, Jesus' disciples said to him: "Where do you want us to go to make the preparations for you to eat the Passover?" "He sends two of his disciples saying to them:" Go into the city; a man carrying a jug of water will come to meet you. Follow him, and where he will enter, say to the owner: “The Master makes you say: Where is the room where I can eat the Passover with my disciples?” He will indicate to you, on the floor, a large room arranged and ready for a meal. Make the preparations there for us. The disciples left, went to the city; they found everything as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover. 

In the evening, Jesus arrives with the Twelve. While they were at the table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you: one of you who eats with me is going to deliver me. They became very sad and, one after the other, they asked him: "Could it be me? He said to them, "This is one of the Twelve, the one who is helping himself with me in the dish. The Son of man is going, as it is written about him; but unhappy the one by whom

the Son of man is delivered! It would be better for him if he hadn't been born, that man! During the meal, Jesus, having taken bread and pronounced the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said: "Take, this is my body. Then, taking a cup and giving thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And he said to them, “This is my blood, the blood of the Covenant, shed for many. Truly, I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine any more until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God. " 

After singing the psalms, they set out for the Mount of Olives. Jesus said to them, “You are all going to be at risk of falling, for it is written, I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered. But, once risen, I will go before you into Galilee. "Pierre then said to him:" Even if they all fall, I will not fall. They come to an area called Gethsemane. Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go to pray. »Then he takes Pierre, Jacques and Jean with him, and begins to feel fear and anguish. He said to them: “My soul is sad to die for. Stay here and watch. Going a little further, he fell to the ground and prayed that, if possible, that hour would pass away from him. He said to Peter: “Simon, you are sleeping! Didn't you have the strength to stay awake for only an hour? Watch and pray, so as not to enter into temptation; the spirit is eager, but the flesh is weak. Again he walked away and prayed, repeating the same words. And again he came to the disciples whom he found sleeping, for their eyes were heavy with sleep. And they did not know what to answer him. A third time he comes back and says to them, “Now you can sleep and rest. It is done ; the hour has come: behold, the Son of man is delivered into the hand of sinners. Stand up ! Let's go ! Here is near, the one who delivers me. " 

Jesus was still speaking when Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived and with him a crowd armed with swords and staves, sent by the high priests, scribes and elders. Now, the one who delivered him up had given them an agreed sign: "He whom I will kiss, it is he: arrest him, and take him under guard." As soon as he arrived, Judas, approaching Jesus, said to him: "Rabbi! And he kissed her. The others put their hands on him and stopped him. Now one of those who were there drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. Then Jesus said to them, "Am I then a thief, that you have come and seized me with swords and staves?" Every day I was with you in the Temple teaching, and you didn't stop me. But that's for the Scriptures to be fulfilled. The disciples abandoned him and all fled. Now a young man was following Jesus; all he had was a sheet. We tried to stop him. But he, dropping the sheet, fled naked. 

They took Jesus to the high priest. They all gathered, the high priests, the elders and the scribes. Peter had followed Jesus at a distance, to the interior of the palace of the high priest, and there, seated with the guards, he warmed himself by the fire. The high priests and all the Supreme Council were looking for a testimony against Jesus to have him put to death, and they could not find any. In fact, many bore false testimonies against Jesus, and these testimonies did not match. "He humbled himself: this is why God exalted him" 

from the letter of Saint Paul the apostle to the Philippians (2, 6-11) 

Christ Jesus, having the condition of God, did not jealously retain the rank which equaled him to God; but he was annihilated, assuming the condition of a servant, becoming like men. Recognized as a man by his appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, and the death of the cross. This is why God exalted him: he endowed him with the Name which is above all names, so that in the name of Jesus every knee will bow in heaven, on earth and in hell, and that every tongue proclaims : “Jesus Christ is Lord” to the glory of God the Father.
