"He loved them to the end"
A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (13, 1-15)
Before the feast of the Passover, knowing that the hour had come for him to pass from this world to his Father, Jesus, having loved his own who were in the world, loved them to the end.
During the meal, when the devil has already placed in the heart of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, the intention to deliver him, Jesus, knowing that the Father has placed everything in his hands, that he went out from God and go to God, get up from the table, put down his garment, and take a cloth that he ties at his belt; then he pours water into a basin. So he began to wash the disciples' feet and dry them with the cloth he had on his belt. So it happens to Simon Peter, who says to him: "It is you, Lord, who is washing my feet? "Jesus answered him:" What I want to do, you do not know now; later you will understand. »Peter said to him:« You shall not wash my feet; no never ! "Jesus answered him," If I do not wash you, you will not have a part with me. "Simon Peter said to him:" Then, Lord, not just the feet, but also the hands and the head! "Jesus said to her:" When you have just taken a bath, you don't need to wash yourself, except your feet: you are completely clean. You yourselves are pure, but not all of you. He knew very well who was going to deliver him; and that is why he said, “You are not all clean. "
When he had washed their feet, he put on his clothes again, sat down again at the table and said to them: “Do you understand what I have just done for you? You call me “Master” and “Lord”, and you are right, because truly I am. So if I, the Lord and the Master, have washed your feet, you too must wash each other's feet. This is an example that I have given you so that you too can do as I have done for you. "
