அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு சமாரியாவில் உள்ள சிக்கார் என்னும் ஊருக்கு வந்து சேர்ந்தார். யாக்கோபு தம் மகன் யோசேப்புக்குக் கொடுத்த நிலத்துக்கு அருகே அந்த ஊர் இருந்தது. அவ்வூரில் யாக்கோபின் கிணறும் இருந்தது. பயணத்தால் களைப்புற்றிருந்த இயேசு கிணற்று ஓரமாய் அமர்ந்தார். அப்போது ஏறக்குறைய நண்பகல்.

அவருடைய சீடர் உணவு வாங்குவதற்காக நகருக்குள் சென்றிருந்தனர். சமாரியப் பெண் ஒருவர் தண்ணீர் மொள்ள வந்தார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “குடிக்க எனக்குத் தண்ணீர் கொடும்” என்று கேட்டார். அச்சமாரியப் பெண் அவரிடம், “நீர் யூதர்; நானோ சமாரியப் பெண். நீர் என்னிடம் குடிக்கத் தண்ணீர் கேட்பது எப்படி?” என்று கேட்டார். ஏனெனில் யூதர்கள் சமாரியரோடு பழகுவதில்லை.

இயேசு அவரைப் பார்த்து, “கடவுளுடைய கொடை எது என்பதையும் ‘குடிக்கத் தண்ணீர் கொடும்’ எனக் கேட்பவர் யார் என்பதையும் நீர் அறிந்திருந்தால் நீரே அவரிடம் கேட்டிருப்பீர்; அவரும் உமக்கு வாழ்வு தரும் தண்ணீரைக் கொடுத்திருப்பார்” என்றார்.

அவர் இயேசுவிடம், “ஐயா, தண்ணீர் மொள்ள உம்மிடம் ஒன்றுமில்லை; கிணறும் ஆழமானது. அப்படியிருக்க வாழ்வு தரும் தண்ணீர் உமக்கு எங்கிருந்து கிடைக்கும்? எம் தந்தை யாக்கோபைவிட நீர் பெரியவரோ? அவரே எங்களுக்கு இக்கிணற்றை வெட்டித் தந்தார். அவரும் அவருடைய மக்களும் கால்நடைகளும் இதிலிருந்துதான் தண்ணீர் குடிப்பது வழக்கம்” என்றார்.

இயேசு அவரைப் பார்த்து, “இந்தத் தண்ணீரைக் குடிக்கும் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் மீண்டும் தாகம் எடுக்கும். நான் கொடுக்கும் தண்ணீரைக் குடிக்கும் எவருக்கும் என்றுமே தாகம் எடுக்காது; நான் கொடுக்கும் தண்ணீர் அதைக் குடிப்பவருக்குள் பொங்கி எழும் ஊற்றாக மாறி நிலைவாழ்வு அளிக்கும்” என்றார்.

அப்பெண் அவரை நோக்கி, “ஐயா, அத்தண்ணீரை எனக்குக் கொடும்; அப்போது எனக்குத் தாகமும் எடுக்காது; தண்ணீர் மொள்ள நான் இங்கு வரத் தேவையும் இருக்காது” என்றார்.

இயேசு அவரிடம், “நீர் போய், உம் கணவரை இங்கே கூட்டிக்கொண்டு வாரும்” என்று கூறினார். அப்பெண் அவரைப் பார்த்து, “எனக்குக் கணவர் இல்லையே” என்றார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “ ‘எனக்குக் கணவர் இல்லை’ என நீர் சொல்வது சரியே. உமக்கு ஐந்து கணவர்கள் இருந்தார்கள் என்றாலும் இப்போது உம்முடன் இருப்பவர் உம் கணவர் அல்ல. எனவே நீர் கூறியது உண்மையே” என்றார். அப்பெண் அவரிடம், “ஐயா, நீர் ஓர் இறைவாக்கினர் எனக் கண்டுகொண்டேன். எங்கள் முன்னோர் இம்மலையில் வழிபட்டு வந்தனர். ஆனால் நீங்கள் எருசலேமில்தான் வழிபட வேண்டும் என்கிறீர்களே” என்றார்.

இயேசு அவரிடம், “அம்மா, என்னை நம்பும். காலம் வருகிறது. அப்போது நீங்கள் தந்தையை இம்மலையிலோ எருசலேமிலோ வழிபடமாட்டீர்கள். யாரை வழிபடுகிறீர்கள் எனத் தெரியாமல் நீங்கள் வழிபடுகிறீர்கள். ஆனால் நாங்கள் தெரிந்து வழிபடுகிறோம். யூதரிடமிருந்தே மீட்பு வருகிறது. காலம் வருகிறது; ஏன், வந்தேவிட்டது! அப்போது உண்மையாய் வழிபடுவோர் தந்தையை அவரது உண்மை இயல்புக்கேற்ப உள்ளத்தில் வழிபடுவர். தம்மை வழிபடுவோர் இத்தகையோராய் இருக்கவே தந்தை விரும்புகிறார். கடவுள் உருவமற்றவர். அவரை வழிபடுவோர் அவரது உண்மை இயல்புக்கு ஏற்ப உள்ளத்தில்தான் வழிபடவேண்டும்” என்றார். அப்பெண் அவரிடம், “கிறிஸ்து எனப்படும் மெசியா வருவார் என எனக்குத் தெரியும். அவர் வரும்போது அனைத்தையும் எங்களுக்கு அறிவிப்பார்” என்றார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “உம்மோடு பேசும் நானே அவர்” என்றார்.

அந்நேரத்தில் இயேசுவின் சீடர் திரும்பி வந்தனர். பெண் ஒருவரிடம் அவர் பேசிக்கொண்டிருப்பதைக் கண்டு அவர்கள் வியப்புற்றனர். எனினும் “என்ன வேண்டும்?” என்றோ, “அவரோடு என்ன பேசுகிறீர்?” என்றோ எவரும் கேட்கவில்லை. அப்பெண் தம் குடத்தை விட்டுவிட்டு ஊருக்குள் சென்று மக்களிடம், “நான் செய்த எல்லாவற்றையும் என்னிடம் சொன்ன மனிதரை வந்து பாருங்கள். அவர் மெசியாவாக இருப்பாரோ!” என்றார். அவர்கள் ஊரிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு இயேசுவிடம் வந்தார்கள்.

அதற்கிடையில் சீடர், “ரபி, உண்ணும்” என்று வேண்டினர். இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “நான் உண்பதற்குரிய உணவு ஒன்று உண்டு. அது உங்களுக்குத் தெரியாது” என்றார். “யாராவது அவருக்கு உணவு கொடுத்திருப்பார்களோ” என்று சீடர்கள் தங்களிடையே பேசிக் கொண்டார்கள். இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “என்னை அனுப்பியவரின் திருவுளத்தை நிறைவேற்றுவதும் அவர் கொடுத்த வேலையைச் செய்து முடிப்பதுமே என் உணவு.

‘நான்கு மாதங்களுக்குப் பின்தான் அறுவடை’ என்னும் கூற்று உங்களிடையே உண்டே! நிமிர்ந்து வயல்வெளிகளைப் பாருங்கள். பயிர் முற்றி அறுவடைக்குத் தயாராய் உள்ளது. அறுப்பவர் கூலி பெறுகிறார்; நிலைவாழ்வு பெறுவதற்காக மக்களைக் கூட்டிச் சேர்க்கிறார். இவ்வாறு விதைப்பவரும் அறுப்பவரும் ஒருமிக்க மகிழ்ச்சியடைகின்றனர். நீங்கள் உழைத்துப் பயிரிடாததை அறுவடை செய்ய நான் உங்களை அனுப்பினேன். மற்றவர்கள் உழைத்தார்கள்; ஆனால் நீங்கள் அந்த உழைப்பின் பயனை அடைந்தீர்கள். இவ்வாறு ‘விதைப்பவர் ஒருவர்; அறுவடை செய்பவர் வேறு ஒருவர்’ என்னும் கூற்று உண்மையாயிற்று” என்றார்.

‘நான் செய்தவை அனைத்தையும் என்னிடம் சொன்னார்’ என்று சான்று பகர்ந்த பெண்ணின் வார்த்தையை முன்னிட்டு அவ்வூரிலுள்ள சமாரியர் பலர் இயேசுவிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டனர். சமாரியர் அவரிடம் வந்தபோது அவரைத் தங்களோடு தங்குமாறு கேட்டுக்கொண்டனர். அவரும் அங்கு இரண்டு நாள் தங்கினார். அவரது வார்த்தையை முன்னிட்டு இன்னும் பலர் அவரை நம்பினர். அவர்கள் அப்பெண்ணிடம், “இப்போது உன் பேச்சைக் கேட்டு நாங்கள் நம்பவில்லை; நாங்களே அவர் பேச்சைக் கேட்டோம். அவர் உண்மையிலே உலகின் மீட்பர் என அறிந்து கொண்டோம்” என்றார்கள்.

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

மார்ச் 8 :  இரண்டாம் வாசகம்

தூய ஆவியின் வழியாய்க் கடவுளின் அன்பு நம் உள்ளங்களில் பொழியப்பட்டுள்ளது.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் உரோமையருக்கு எழுதிய திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 5: 1-2, 5-8

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

நாம் கொண்டுள்ள நம்பிக்கையின் மூலம் கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்புடையவர்களாகியுள்ள நாம், நம் ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் வழியாய்க் கடவுளோடு நல்லுறவு கொண்டுள்ளோம். நாம் இப்போது அருள்நிலையைப் பெற்றிருக்கிறோம். இந்நிலையை அடையும் உரிமை இயேசு கிறிஸ்துமீது கொண்ட நம்பிக்கையால்தான் அவர் வழியாகவே நமக்குக் கிடைத்தது. கடவுளின் மாட்சியில் பங்கு பெறுவோம் என்னும் எதிர்நோக்கில் நாம் பெருமகிழ்வும் கொள்ள முடிகிறது.

அந்த எதிர்நோக்கு ஒருபோதும் ஏமாற்றம் தராது; ஏனெனில் நாம் பெற்றுள்ள தூய ஆவியின் வழியாய்க் கடவுளின் அன்பு நம் உள்ளங்களில் பொழியப்பட்டுள்ளது. நாம் இறைப்பற்று இன்றி வலுவற்று இருந்தபோதே, குறித்த காலம் வந்ததும் கிறிஸ்து நமக்காகத் தம் உயிரைக் கொடுத்தார். நேர்மையாளருக்காக ஒருவர் தம் உயிரைக் கொடுத்தலே அரிது. ஒருவேளை நல்லவர் ஒருவருக்காக யாரேனும் தம் உயிரைக் கொடுக்கத் துணியலாம். ஆனால், நாம் பாவிகளாய் இருந்தபோதே கிறிஸ்து நமக்காகத் தம் உயிரைக் கொடுத்தார். இவ்வாறு கடவுள் நம்மீது கொண்டுள்ள தம் அன்பை எடுத்துக்காட்டியுள்ளார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் சீன் பாலைநிலத்திலிருந்து இரபிதிம் வந்து அங்கு பாளையம் இறங்கினர்.

அங்குத் தண்ணீரின்றித் தவித்ததால் மக்கள் மோசேயை எதிர்த்து முறுமுறுத்து, ‘‘நீர் எகிப்திலிருந்து எங்களை வெளியேறச் செய்தது எங்களையும், எங்கள் பிள்ளைகளையும், கால்நடைகளையும் தாகத்தால் சாகடிக்கவா?” என்று கேட்டனர். மோசே ஆண்டவரிடம், ‘‘இந்த மக்களோடு நான் என்ன செய்வேன்? இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் போனால் என்மேல் கல்லெறிவார்களே!” என்று கதறினார்.

ஆண்டவர் மோசேயிடம், ‘‘இஸ்ரயேல் தலைவர்கள் சிலரை உன்னோடு அழைத்துக் கொண்டு மக்கள் முன் செல்; நைல் நதியை அடித்த உன் கோலையும் கையில் எடுத்துக் கொண்டு போ. இதோ நான் அங்கே ஓரேபில் உள்ள பாறையில் உனக்குமுன் நிற்பேன். நீ பாறையை அடி; மக்கள் குடிக்க அதிலிருந்து தண்ணீர் புறப்படும்” என்றார். இஸ்ரயேல் தலைவர்கள் காண மோசே அவ்வாறே செய்தார். இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் அங்கு வாதாடியதாலும் ஆண்டவர் தம்மோடு இருக்கிறாரா இல்லையா என்று சோதித்ததாலும், அவ்விடம் ‘மாசா’ என்றும் ‘மெரிபா’ என்றும் பெயரிட்டு அழைக்கப்பட்டது.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 4:5-42 

At that time: Jesus came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink’, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.” Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshipped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.” Just then his disciples came back. They marvelled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” They went out of the town and were coming to him. Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you did not labour. Others have laboured, and you have entered into their labour.” Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. And many more believed because of his word. They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.”

The love of God has been poured into our hearts

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to the Romans 5:1-2,5-8 

Brethren: Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person— though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

A Reading from the Book of Exodus 17:3-7 

In those days: The people thirsted there for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?” So Moses cried to the Lord, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.” And the Lord said to Moses, “Pass on before the people, taking with you some of the elders of Israel, and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people will drink.” And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel. And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the quarrelling of the people of Israel, and because they tested the Lord by saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
