இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “உங்கள் தந்தை இரக்கமுள்ளவராய் இருப்பதுபோல நீங்களும் இரக்கம் உள்ளவர்களாய் இருங்கள். பிறர் குற்றவாளிகள் எனத் தீர்ப்பளிக்காதீர்கள்; அப்போதுதான் நீங்களும் தீர்ப்புக்கு உள்ளாகமாட்டீர்கள். மற்றவர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்யாதீர்கள்; அப்போதுதான் நீங்களும் கண்டனத்துக்கு ஆளாக மாட்டீர்கள். மன்னியுங்கள்; மன்னிப்புப் பெறுவீர்கள்.

கொடுங்கள்; உங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்படும்; அமுக்கிக் குலுக்கிச் சரிந்து விழும்படி நன்றாய் அளந்து உங்கள் மடியில் போடுவார்கள். நீங்கள் எந்த அளவையால் அளக்கிறீர்களோ அதே அளவையால் உங்களுக்கும் அளக்கப்படும்.”

என் தலைவரே! நீர் மாட்சிமிக்க அஞ்சுதற்குரிய இறைவன். உம்மீது அன்புகொண்டு உம் கட்டளைகளின்படி நடப்பவர்களுடன் நீர் செய்துகொண்ட உடன்படிக்கையைக் காத்து அவர்களுக்குப் பேரன்பு காட்டுகின்றீர்! நாங்கள் பாவம் செய்தோம்; வழி தவறி நடந்தோம்; பொல்லாதவர்களாய் வாழ்ந்து உம்மை எதிர்த்து நின்றோம். உம் கட்டளைகளையும் நீதி நெறிகளையும் கைவிட்டோம். எங்களுடைய அரசர்கள், தலைவர்கள், தந்தையர்கள், நாட்டிலுள்ள மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் இறைவாக்கினர்களாகிய உம் ஊழியர்கள் உமது பெயரால் பேசியதற்கு நாங்கள் செவிகொடுக்கவில்லை.

என் தலைவரே! நீதி உமக்கு உரியது; எமக்கோ இன்று வரை கிடைத்துள்ளது அவமானமே. ஏனெனில், யூதாவின் ஆண்களும் எருசலேம்வாழ் மக்களும், இஸ்ரயேலைச் சார்ந்த யாவரும் ஆகிய நாங்கள், உமக்கு எதிராகச் செய்த துரோகத்தின் பொருட்டு, அருகிலோ தொலையிலோ உள்ள எல்லா நாடுகளுக்கும் உம்மால் இன்றுவரை விரட்டப்பட்டுள்ளோம்.

ஆம், ஆண்டவரே! அவமானமே எங்களுக்கும் எங்கள் அரசர்களுக்கும் தலைவர்களுக்கும் தந்தையர்களுக்கும் கிடைத்துள்ளது. ஏனெனில், நாங்கள் உமக்கு எதிராகப் பாவம் செய்தோம். எங்கள் தலைவரும் கடவுளுமாகிய உம்மிடத்தில் இரக்கமும் மன்னிப்பும் உண்டு. நாங்களோ உம்மை எதிர்த்து நின்றோம். எங்கள் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் தம் ஊழியர்களான இறைவாக்கினர் மூலம் தம் திருச்சட்டங்களை அளித்து அவற்றின் வழியில் நடக்குமாறு பணித்தார். நாங்களோ அவரது குரலொலியை ஏற்கவில்லை.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 6:36-38

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

Yours is the integrity, Lord; ours the shame

A Reading from the book of the Prophet Daniel 9: 4-10

O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules. We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. To you, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us open shame, as at this day, to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, those who are near and those who are far away, in all the lands to which you have driven them, because of the treachery that they have committed against you. To us, O Lord, belongs open shame, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you. To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against him and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God by walking in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
