மக்கள் கடவுளைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தனர்.

மத்தேயு எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 9: 1-8

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு படகேறி மறு கரைக்குச் சென்று தம் சொந்த நகரை அடைந்தார். அப்பொழுது சிலர் முடக்குவாதமுற்ற ஒருவரைக் கட்டிலில் கிடத்தி அவரிடம் கொண்டு வந்தனர். இயேசு அவர்களுடைய நம்பிக்கையைக் கண்டு முடக்குவாதமுற்றவரிடம், “மகனே, துணிவோடிரு, உம் பாவங்கள் மன்னிக்கப்பட்டன” என்றார்.

அப்பொழுது மறைநூல் அறிஞர்கள் சிலர், “இவன் கடவுளைப் பழிக்கிறான்” என்று தமக்குள் சொல்லிக் கொண்டனர். அவர்களுடைய சிந்தனைகளை இயேசு அறிந்து அவர்களை நோக்கி, “உங்கள் உள்ளங்களில் நீங்கள் தீயன சிந்திப்பதேன்? ‘உன் பாவங்கள் மன்னிக்கப்பட்டன’ என்பதா, ‘எழுந்து நட’ என்பதா, எது எளிது? மண்ணுலகில் பாவங்களை மன்னிக்க மானிட மகனுக்கு அதிகாரம் உண்டு என்பதை நீங்கள் அறிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும்” என்றார். எனவே அவர் முடக்குவாதமுற்றவரை நோக்கி, “நீ எழுந்து உன்னுடைய கட்டிலைத் தூக்கிக்கொண்டு வீட்டுக்குப் போ” என்றார். அவரும் எழுந்து தமது வீட்டுக்குப் போனார்.

இதைக் கண்ட மக்கள் கூட்டத்தினர் அச்சமுற்றனர். இத்தகைய அதிகாரத்தை மனிதருக்கு அளித்த கடவுளைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தனர்.

நம் முதுபெரும் தந்தை ஆபிரகாமின் பலி.

தொடக்க நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 22: 1-19

அந்நாள்களில்

கடவுள் ஆபிரகாமைச் சோதித்தார். அவர் அவரை நோக்கி, ஆபிரகாம்! என, அவரும் ‘இதோ! அடியேன்’ என்றார். அவர், “உன் மகனை, நீ அன்புகூரும் உன் ஒரே மகனான ஈசாக்கை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு, மோரியா நிலப் பகுதிக்குச் செல். அங்கு நான் உனக்குக் காட்டும் மலைகளில் ஒன்றின் மேல் எரிபலியாக அவனை நீ பலியிட வேண்டும்” என்றார்.

அவ்வாறே ஆபிரகாம் அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, தமது கழுதைக்குச் சேணமிட்டு, தம் வேலைக்காரருள் இருவரையும் தம் மகன் ஈசாக்கையும் அழைத்துக் கொண்டு, எரிபலிக்கு வேண்டிய விறகுக் கட்டைகளை வெட்டியபின், கடவுள் தமக்குக் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்த இடத்தை நோக்கிப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார். மூன்றாம் நாள் ஆபிரகாம் கண்களை உயர்த்தி அந்த இடத்தைத் தூரத்திலிருந்து பார்த்தார். உடனே ஆபிரகாம் தம் வேலைக்காரர்களை நோக்கி, “நீங்கள் கழுதையோடு இங்கேயே காத்திருங்கள். நானும், பையனும் அவ்விடம் சென்று வழிபாடு செய்தபின் உங்களிடம் திரும்பி வருவோம்” என்றார்.

பின் ஆபிரகாம் எரிபலிக்கு வேண்டிய விறகுக் கட்டைகளை எடுத்துத் தம் மகன் ஈசாக்கின்மீது வைத்தார். நெருப்பையும் கத்தியையும் தம் கையில் எடுத்துக்கொண்டார். இவ்வாறு இருவரும் சேர்ந்து சென்றனர். அப்பொழுது, ஈசாக்கு தன் தந்தையாகிய ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி, ‘அப்பா!’ என, அவர், ‘என்ன? மகனே!’ என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவன், “இதோ நெருப்பும் விறகுக் கட்டைகளும் இருக்கின்றன. எரிபலிக்கான ஆட்டுக் குட்டி எங்கே?” என்று வினவினான். அதற்கு ஆபிரகாம், “எரிபலிக்கான ஆட்டுக்குட்டியைப் பொறுத்தமட்டில், கடவுளே பார்த்துக்கொள்வார் மகனே” என்றார். இருவரும் சேர்ந்து தொடர்ந்து நடந்தனர்.

ஆபிரகாமுக்குக் கடவுள் குறிப்பிட்டுச் சொல்லிய இடத்தை அவர்கள் அடைந்தனர். அங்கே ஆபிரகாம் ஒரு பலிபீடம் அமைத்து, அதன்மேல் விறகுக் கட்டைகளை அடுக்கி வைத்தார். பின் தம் மகன் ஈசாக்கைக் கட்டி, பீடத்தின்மீது இருந்த விறகுக் கட்டைகளின்மேல் கிடத்தினார். ஆபிரகாம் தம் மகனை வெட்டுமாறு தம் கையை நீட்டிக் கத்தியைக் கையில் எடுத்தார். அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவரின் தூதர் வானத்தினின்று ‘ஆபிரகாம்! ஆபிரகாம்’ என்று கூப்பிட, அவர் ‘இதோ! அடியேன்’ என்றார். அவர், “பையன்மேல் கை வைக்காதே; அவனுக்கு எதுவும் செய்யாதே; உன் ஒரே மகனையும் எனக்குப் பலியிட நீ தயங்கவில்லை என்பதிலிருந்து நீ கடவுளுக்கு அஞ்சுபவன் என்று இப்போது நான் அறிந்துகொண்டேன்” என்றார். அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் தம் கண்களை உயர்த்திப் பார்த்தார். இதோ, முட்செடியில் கொம்பு மாட்டிக்கொண்டு நின்ற ஓர் ஆட்டுக்கிடாயைக் கண்டார். உடனே ஆபிரகாம் அங்குச் சென்று அந்தக் கிடாயைப் பிடித்து தம் மகனுக்குப் பதிலாக எரிபலியாக்கினார். எனவே, ஆபிரகாம் அந்த இடத்திற்கு ‘யாவேயிரே’ என்று பெயரிட்டார். ஆதலால்தான் ‘மலையில் ஆண்டவர் பார்த்துக்கொள்வார்’ என்று இன்றுவரை வழங்கி வருகிறது.

ஆண்டவரின் தூதர் ஆபிரகாமை வானத்தினின்று மீண்டும் அழைத்து, “ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே! நான் என்மீது ஆணையிட்டுக் கூறுகிறேன். உன் ஒரே மகனை எனக்குப் பலியிடத் தயங்காமல் நீ இவ்வாறு செய்தாய். ஆதலால் நான் உன்மீது உண்மையாகவே ஆசி பொழிந்து, விண்மீன்களைப் போலவும் கடற்கரை மணலைப் போலவும் உன் வழிமரபைப் பலுகிப் பெருகச் செய்வேன். உன் வழிமரபினர் தம் பகைவர்களின் வாயிலை உரிமையாக்கிக் கொள்வர். மேலும், நீ என் குரலுக்குச் செவி கொடுத்ததனால் உலகின் அனைத்து இனத்தவரும் உன் வழிமரபின் மூலம் தங்களுக்கு ஆசி கூறிக்கொள்வர்” என்றார்.

பின் ஆபிரகாம் தம் வேலைக்காரரிடம் திரும்பி வந்தார். அவர்கள் ஒன்று சேர்ந்து பெயேர்செபாவுக்குத் திரும்பிச் சென்றார்கள். அங்கேயே ஆபிரகாம் வாழ்ந்து வந்தார்.

"The crowds gave glory to God who gave such power to men" 

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Matthew (9, 1-8) 

At that time, Jesus got into the boat, crossed again, and went to his town of Capernaum. And behold, a paralyzed man was presented to him, lying on a stretcher. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man: “Trust, my child, your sins are forgiven. And here some of the scribes were saying to themselves: "This one is blaspheming. But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, asked, "Why do you have bad thoughts? Indeed, what is easier? Say: “Your sins are forgiven”, or say: “Get up and walk”? Well ! so that you know that the Son of man has the power, on earth, to forgive sins… - Jesus then addressed the paralyzed - get up, take your litter, and go into your house. He got up and went back to his house. Seeing this, the crowds were seized with fear, 

- Let us acclaim the Word of God.

The sacrifice of our patriarch Abraham 

A Reading from the book of Genesis (22, 1-19) 

In those days God put Abraham to the test. He said to him: “Abraham! The latter replied: "Here I am! God said: "Take your son, your only son, the one you love, Isaac, go to the land of Moriah, and there you will offer him as a burnt offering on the mountain that I will show you. Abraham got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. He split the wood for the burnt offering, and set out for the place God had indicated to him. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place from afar. Abraham said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey. Me and the boy, we'll go over there to worship, and then we'll come back to you. Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and loaded it on his son Isaac; he took the fire and the knife, and they both went away together. Isaac said to his father Abraham: “My father! - Well, my son? Isaac continued, "There is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" Abraham replied, "God will find the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." And they both went away together. They come to the place that God had indicated. Abraham built the altar there and laid out the wood; then he bound his son Isaac and put him on the altar over the wood. Abraham stretched out his hand and grabbed the knife to sacrifice his son. அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு கலிலேயாவின் மறு கரையை அடைந்து கதரேனர் வாழ்ந்த பகுதிக்கு வந்தபோது, பேய் பிடித்த இருவர் கல்லறைகளிலிருந்து வெளியேறி அவருக்கு எதிரே வந்துகொண்டிருந்தனர். அவ்வழியே யாரும் போகமுடியாத அளவுக்கு அவர்கள் மிகவும் கொடியவர்களாய் இருந்தார்கள். அவர்கள், “இறைமகனே, உமக்கு இங்கு என்ன வேலை? குறித்த காலம் வருமுன்னே எங்களை வதைக்கவா இங்கே வந்தீர்?” என்று கத்தினார்கள்.

அவர்களிடமிருந்து சற்றுத் தொலையில் பன்றிகள் பெருங்கூட்டமாய் மேய்ந்துகொண்டிருந்தன. பேய்கள் அவரிடம், “நீர் எங்களை ஓட்டுவதாயிருந்தால் அப்பன்றிக் கூட்டத்திற்குள் எங்களை அனுப்பும்” என்று வேண்டின. அவர் அவற்றிடம், “போங்கள்” என்றார். அவை வெளியேறிப் பன்றிகளுக்குள் புகுந்தன. உடனே அக்கூட்டம் முழுவதும் செங்குத்துப் பாறையிலிருந்து கடலில் பாய்ந்து நீரில் வீழ்ந்து மடிந்தது.

பன்றிகளை மேய்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தவர்கள் ஓடிப்போனார்கள். அவர்கள் நகருக்குள் சென்று, பேய் பிடித்தவர்களைப் பற்றிய செய்தியையும், நடந்த அனைத்தையுமே அறிவித்தார்கள். உடனே நகரினர் அனைவரும் இயேசுவுக்கு எதிர் கொண்டு வந்து, அவரைக் கண்டு, தங்கள் பகுதியை விட்டு அகலுமாறு வேண்டிக்கொண்டனர்.

ஆண்டவரின் தூயோரே, அவருக்கு அஞ்சுங்கள்; அவருக்கு அஞ்சுவோர்க்கு எக்குறையும் இராது.

சிங்கக் குட்டிகள் உணவின்றிப் பட்டினி இருக்க நேரிட்டாலும், ஆண்டவரை நாடுவோர்க்கு நன்மை ஏதும் குறையாது. - பல்லவி

வாரீர் பிள்ளைகளே! நான் சொல்வதைக் கேளீர்! ஆண்டவருக்கு அஞ்சுவதைப் பற்றி உங்களுக்குக் கற்பிப்பேன்.

அல்லேலூயா, அல்லேலூயா! தம் படைப்புகளுள் நாம் முதற்கனிகளாகும்படி உண்மையை அறிவிக்கும் வார்த்தையால் நம்மை ஈன்றெடுக்க அவர் விரும்பினார். அல்லேலூயா.

பணிப்பெண்ணின் மகன், என் மகன் ஈசாக்குடன் பங்காளியாய் இருக்கக்கூடாது.

தொடக்க நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 21: 5, 8-20

ஆபிரகாமுக்கு ஈசாக்கு பிறந்தபொழுது அவருடைய வயதோ நூறு. அந்தக் குழந்தை வளர்ந்து பால் குடியும் மறந்தது. அப்படிப் பால் குடிப்பதை நிறுத்திய நாளன்று ஆபிரகாம் பெரியதொரு விருந்து அளித்தார்.

பின்னர் எகிப்தியளான ஆகார் ஆபிரகாமுக்குப் பெற்றெடுத்த மகன் சிரித்து விளையாடுவதைச் சாரா கண்டு, ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி, “இந்தப் பணிப் பெண்ணையும் அவள் மகனையும் துரத்திவிடும். ஏனென்றால், பணிப் பெண்ணின் மகன் என் மகன் ஈசாக்குடன் பங்காளியாய் இருக்கக்கூடாது” என்றார். தம் மகனுக்கு எதிரான இவ்வார்த்தை ஆபிரகாமுக்கு மிகுந்த வேதனை அளித்தது.

அப்போது கடவுள் ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி, “பையனையும் பணிப் பெண்ணையும் குறித்து வேதனைப்படாதே. சாரா உனக்குச் சொல்வதை எல்லாம் அப்படியே செய். ஏனெனில் ஈசாக்கின் மூலமே உன் வழி மரபு விளங்கும். உன் பணிப் பெண்ணின் மகனும் உன் வித்தாய் இருப்பதால், அவனிடமிருந்தும் இனம் ஒன்று தோன்றச் செய்வேன்” என்றார்.

எனவே ஆபிரகாம் காலையில் எழுந்து, அப்பத்தையும், தோற்பை நிறையத் தண்ணீரையும் எடுத்து ஆகாரிடம் கொடுத்தார்; அவற்றை அவள் தோள்மேல் வைத்து குழந்தையையும் அவளுடன் அனுப்பி வைத்தார். அவளும் புறப்பட்டுப் போய் பெயேர்செபா என்னும் பாலை நிலத்தில் அலைந்து திரிந்தாள். தோற்பையிலிருந்த தண்ணீர் தீர்ந்தபின் அவள் புதர் ஒன்றின் அடியில் குழந்தையைக் கிடத்தினாள். பின்பு அவள் முன்புறம் சென்று அம்புஎறி தூரத்தளவில் உட்கார்ந்து கொண்டாள். ‘குழந்தை சாவதைப் பார்க்கச் சகியேன்’ என்று கூறி, முன்புறமிருந்து கொண்டே கூக்குரலிட்டு அழுதாள்.

அப்போது கடவுள் பையனின் அழுகுரலைக் கேட்டார். ஆண்டவரின் தூதர் வானத்தினின்று ஆகாரைக் கூப்பிட்டு, “ஆகார்! உனக்கு நிகழ்ந்தது என்ன? அஞ்சாதே. ஏனெனில், கிடத்தியிருக்கிற இடத்தினின்று பையனின் அழுகுரலை கடவுள் கேட்டருளினார். நீ எழுந்து பையனைத் தூக்கி விடு. அவனை உன் கையில் பிடித்துக்கொள். ஏனெனில், அவனிடமிருந்து பெரிய இனம் ஒன்று தோன்றச் செய்வேன்” என்றார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

அப்போது ஆண்டவரின் தூதர் அங்கு வந்து நின்றார். அறை ஒளிமயமாகியது. அவர் பேதுருவைத் தட்டியெழுப்பி, “உடனே எழுந்திடும்” என்று கூற, சங்கிலிகள் அவர் கைகளிலிருந்து கீழே விழுந்தன.

வானதூதர் அவரிடம், “இடைக் கச்சையைக் கட்டி மிதியடிகளைப் போட்டுக்கொள்ளும்” என்றார். அவரும் அவ்வாறே செய்தார். தூதர் அவரிடம், “உமது மேலுடையை அணிந்துகொண்டு என்னைப் பின்தொடரும்” என்றார். பேதுரு வானதூதரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து சென்றார். தூதர் மூலமாக நடந்தவையெல்லாம் உண்மையென்று அவர் உணரவில்லை. ஏதோ காட்சி காண்பதாக அவர் நினைத்துக்கொண்டார். அவர்கள் முதலாம் காவல் நிலையையும், இரண்டாம் காவல் நிலையையும் கடந்து நகருக்குச் செல்லும் இரும்புவாயில் அருகே வந்தபோது அது அவர்களுக்குத் தானாகவே திறந்தது. அவர்கள் வெளியே வந்து ஒரு சந்து வழியாகச் சென்றார்கள். உடனே வானதூதர் அவரை விட்டு அகன்றார்.

மூன்று மனிதர்களும் எழுந்து, சோதோமை நோக்கிச் சென்றார்கள். ஆபிரகாமும் உடன்சென்று அவர்களை வழியனுப்பினார்.

அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவர், “நான் செய்ய இருப்பதை ஆபிரகாமிடமிருந்து மறைப்பேனா? ஆபிரகாமிடமிருந்தே வலிமைமிக்க மாபெரும் இனம் தோன்றும். அவன் மூலம் மண்ணுலகின் எல்லா இனத்தாரும் ஆசி பெற்றுக் கொள்வர். ஏனெனில், நீதி, நேர்மை வழி நின்று எனக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியும்படி தன் புதல்வருக்கும், தனக்குப்பின் தன் வழிமரபினருக்கும் கற்றுத்தருமாறு ஆண்டவராகிய நான் ஆபிரகாமுக்கு வாக்களித்ததை அவன் நிறைவேற்றுவான்” என்று தமக்குள் சொல்லிக் கொண்டார்.

ஆதலால் ஆண்டவர் ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி, “சோதோம் கொமோராவுக்கு எதிராகப் பெரும் கண்டனக் குரல் எழும்பியுள்ளது. அவற்றின் பாவம் மிகவும் கொடியது. என்னை வந்தடைந்த கண்டனக் குரலின்படி அவர்கள் நடந்து கொண்டார்களா இல்லையா என்று அறிந்து கொள்ள நான் இறங்கிச் சென்று பார்ப்பேன்” என்றார்.

அப்பொழுது அந்த மனிதர்கள் அவ்விடத்தை விட்டுச் சோதோமை நோக்கிச் சென்றார்கள். ஆபிரகாமோ ஆண்டவர் திருமுன் நின்று கொண்டிருந்தார். ஆபிரகாம் அவரை அணுகிக் கூறியதாவது: “தீயவரோடு நீதிமான்களையும் சேர்த்து அழித்து விடுவீரோ? ஒருவேளை நகரில் ஐம்பது நீதிமான்களாவது இருக்கலாம். அப்படியானால் அதிலிருக்கிற ஐம்பது நீதிமான்களை முன்னிட்டாவது அவ்விடத்தைக் காப்பாற்றாமல் அழிப்பீரோ? தீயவனோடு நீதிமானையும் அழிப்பது உமக்கு ஏற்றதன்று; நீதிமானையும் தீயவனையும் சமமாக நடத்துவது உமக்கு உகந்ததன்று. அனைத்துலகிற்கும் நீதி வழங்குபவர் நீதியுடன் தீர்ப்பு வழங்க வேண்டாமோ?” என்றார்.

அதற்கு ஆண்டவர், “நான் சோதோம் நகரில் ஐம்பது நீதிமான்கள் இருப்பதாகக் கண்டால், அவர்களின் பொருட்டு முழுவதையும் காப்பாற்றுவேன்” என்றார்.

அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் மறுமொழியாக, “தூசியும் சாம்பலுமான நான் என் தலைவரோடு பேசத் துணிந்து விட்டேன்; ஒருவேளை அந்த ஐம்பது நீதிமான்களில் ஐந்து பேர் குறைவாயிருக்கலாம். ஐந்து பேர் குறைவதை முன்னிட்டு நகர் முழுவதையும் அழிப்பீரோ?” என்றார். அதற்கு அவர், “நான் நாற்பத்தைந்து பேரை அங்கே கண்டால் அழிக்க மாட்டேன்” என்றார்.

மீண்டும் அவர், உரையாடலைத் தொடர்ந்து, “ஒருவேளை அங்கே நாற்பது பேர் மட்டும் காணப்பட்டால் என்ன செய்வீர்?” என்று கேட்க, ஆண்டவர், “நாற்பது நீதிமான்களின் பொருட்டு அதனை அழிக்க மாட்டேன்” என்றார்.

அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம்: “என் தலைவரே, நான் இன்னும் பேச வேண்டும்; சினமடைய வேண்டாம். ஒருவேளை அங்கே முப்பது பேரே காணப்பட்டால்?” என, அவரும் “முப்பது பேர் அங்குக் காணப்பட்டால் அழிக்க மாட்டேன்” என்று பதிலளித்தார். அவர், “என் தலைவரே, உம்மோடு அடியேன் பேசத் துணிந்து விட்டேன். ஒருவேளை அங்கு இருபது பேரே காணப்பட்டால்?” என, அதற்கு அவர், “இருபது பேரை முன்னிட்டு நான் அழிக்க மாட்டேன்” என்றார்.

A Reading from the book of Genesis (18, 16-33) 

At the oaks of Mambre, the men got up to go and looked towards Sodom. Abraham was walking with them to lead them back. The Lord had said to himself: "Am I going to hide from Abraham what I want to do?" For Abraham is to become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth are to be blessed in him. In fact, I chose him to order his sons and his descendants to keep the way of the Lord, practicing justice and law; thus, the Lord will fulfill his word to Abraham. "Then the Lord said," How great is the clamor about Sodom and Gomorrah! And their fault, how heavy it is! I want to go downstairs to see if their behavior matches the clamor that has come to me. If it's wrong, I'll admit it. "

The men walked to Sodom, while Abraham dwelt before the Lord. Abraham approached and said, "Are you really going to destroy the righteous with the guilty?" இயேசு படகேறி, கடலைக் கடந்து மீண்டும் மறு கரையை அடைந்ததும் பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் அவரிடம் வந்து கூடினர். அவர் கடற்கரையில் இருந்தார். தொழுகைக்கூடத் தலைவர்களுள் ஒருவரான யாயிர் என்பவர் வந்து, அவரைக் கண்டு அவரது காலில் விழுந்து, “என் மகள் சாகும் தறுவாயில் இருக்கிறாள். நீர் வந்து அவள்மீது உம் கைகளை வையும். அப்போது அவள் நலம் பெற்றுப் பிழைத்துக்கொள்வாள்” என்று அவரை வருந்தி வேண்டினார். இயேசுவும் அவருடன் சென்றார். பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் அவரை நெருக்கிக்கொண்டே பின்தொடர்ந்தனர்.

At that time, Jesus sailed back to the other bank, and a large crowd gathered around him. He was at the seaside. One of the synagogue leaders, named Jaire, arrives. Seeing Jesus, he falls at his feet and begs him earnestly: “My daughter, still so young, is at the last extremity. Come lay your hands on her so that she may be saved and live. Jesus went with him, and the crowd that followed him was so large that they crushed him.

Now, a woman, who had been bleeding for twelve years… - she had suffered a lot from the treatment of many doctors, and she had spent all her possessions without having the slightest improvement; on the contrary, her condition had rather worsened -… this woman then, having heard what was said about Jesus, came from behind in the crowd and touched her garment. She said to herself, "If I manage to touch only her garment, I will be saved." Instantly the bleeding stopped, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her ailment. Brothers, since you have everything in abundance, faith, the Word, the knowledge of God, all kind of eagerness and the love that comes to you from us, may there also be abundance in your generous gift! You know in fact the generous gift of our Lord Jesus Christ: he who is rich, he became poor because of you, so that you might become rich through his poverty. It's not about embarrassing yourself by relieving others, it's about equality. In the present circumstance, what you have in abundance will meet their needs, so that, conversely, what they have in abundance can meet your needs, and this will make equality, as the Scripture says about manna: The one who gathered a lot got nothing too much, the one who gathered a little lacked nothing.

A Reading from the Book of Wisdom (1, 13-15; 2, 23-24) 

God did not make death, he does not rejoice in seeing living beings die. He created them all to survive; what is born in the world is the bearer of life: there is no poison that causes death. The power of Death does not reign on the earth, for righteousness is immortal.

God created man for incorruptibility, he made him an image of his own identity. It is through the devil's jealousy that death entered the world; they experience it, those who take sides with it.

இயேசு பேதுருவின் வீட்டிற்குள் சென்றபோது, பேதுருவின் மாமியார் காய்ச்சலாய்ப் படுத்திருப்பதைக் கண்டார். இயேசு அவரது கையைத் தொட்டதும் காய்ச்சல் அவரை விட்டு நீங்கிற்று. அவரும் எழுந்து இயேசுவுக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்தார்.

பேய் பிடித்த பலரை மாலை வேளையில் இயேசுவிடம் கொண்டு வந்தனர். அவர் ஒரு வார்த்தை சொல்ல அசுத்த ஆவிகள் ஓடிப்போயின. மேலும் எல்லா நோயாளர்களையும் அவர் குணமாக்கினார். இவ்வாறு, ‘அவர் நம் பிணிகளைத் தாங்கிக்கொண்டார்; நம் துன்பங்களைச் சுமந்துகொண்டார்’ என்று இறைவாக்கினர் எசாயா உரைத்தது நிறைவேறியது.

அந்நாள்களில்

ஆண்டவர் மம்ரே என்ற இடத்தில் தேவதாரு மரங்கள் அருகே ஆபிரகாமுக்குத் தோன்றினார். பகலில் வெப்பம் மிகுந்த நேரத்தில் ஆபிரகாம் தம் கூடார வாயிலில் அமர்ந்திருக்கையில், கண்களை உயர்த்திப் பார்த்தார்; மூன்று மனிதர் தம் அருகில் நிற்கக் கண்டார்.

அவர்களைக் கண்டவுடன் அவர்களைச் சந்திக்க கூடார வாயிலைவிட்டு ஓடினார். அவர்கள் முன் தரை மட்டும் தாழ்ந்து வணங்கி, அவர்களை நோக்கி, “என் தலைவரே, உம் கண்களில் எனக்கு அருள் கிடைத்ததாயின், நீர் உம் அடியானை விட்டுக் கடந்து போகாதிருப்பீராக! இதோ விரைவில் கொஞ்சம் தண்ணீர் கொண்டு வரட்டும். உங்கள் கால்களைக் கழுவியபின், இம்மரத்தடியில் இளைப்பாறுங்கள். கொஞ்சம் உணவு கொண்டு வருகிறேன். நீங்கள் புத்துணர்வு பெற்றபின், பயணத்தைத் தொடருங்கள். ஏனெனில் உங்கள் அடியானிடமே வந்திருக்கிறீர்கள்” என்றார். “நீ சொன்னபடியே செய்” என்று அவர்கள் பதில் அளித்தார்கள்.

அதைக் கேட்டு ஆபிரகாம் தம் கூடாரத்திற்கு விரைந்து சென்று, சாராவை நோக்கி, “விரைவாக மூன்று மரக்கால் நல்ல மாவைப் பிசைந்து, அப்பங்கள் சுடு” என்றார். ஆபிரகாம் மாட்டு மந்தைக்கு ஓடிச் சென்று, ஒரு நல்ல இளங்கன்றைக் கொணர்ந்து வேலைக்காரனிடம் கொடுக்க, அவன் அதனை விரைவில் சமைத்தான். பிறகு அவர் வெண்ணெய், பால், சமைத்த இளங்கன்று ஆகியவற்றைக் கொண்டு வந்து அவர்கள் முன் வைத்தார். அவர்கள் உண்ணும் பொழுது அவர்கள் அருகே மரத்தடியில் நின்று கொண்டிருந்தார்.

பின்பு அவர்கள் அவரை நோக்கி, “ உன் மனைவி சாரா எங்கே?” என்று கேட்க, அவர், “அதோ கூடாரத்தில் இருக்கிறாள்” என்று பதில் கூறினார். அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவர், “நான் இளவேனிற் காலத்தில் உறுதியாக மீண்டும் உன்னிடம் வருவேன். அப்பொழுது உன் மனைவி சாராவுக்கு ஒரு மகன் பிறந்திருப்பான்” என்றார்.

அவருக்குப் பின்புறத்தில் கூடார வாயிலில் சாரா இதைக் கேட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தார். ஆபிரகாமும் சாராவும் வயது முதிர்ந்தவர்களாய் இருந்தனர். சாராவுக்கு மாதவிடாய் நின்று போயிருந்தது. எனவே, சாரா தமக்குள் சிரித்து, “நானோ கிழவி; என் தலைவரோ வயது முதிர்ந்தவர். எனக்கா இன்பம்?” என்றாள்.

அப்போது ஆண்டவர் ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி, “ ‘நான் வயது முதிர்ந்தவளாய் இருக்க, எனக்கு உண்மையில் பிள்ளை பிறக்குமா’ என்று சொல்லி சாரா ஏன் இப்படிச் சிரித்தாள்? ஆண்டவரால் ஆகாதது எதுவும் உண்டோ! இளவேனிற் காலத்தில் குறிப்பிட்ட நேரத்தில் நான் உன்னிடம் மீண்டும் வருவேன். அப்பொழுது சாராவுக்கு ஒரு மகன் பிறந்திருப்பான்” என்று சொன்னார்.

சாராவோ, “நான் சிரிக்கவில்லை” என்று சொல்லி மறுத்தார். ஏனெனில் அச்சம் அவரை ஆட்கொண்டது. அதற்கு ஆண்டவர், “இல்லை, நீ சிரித்தாய்” என்றார்.
