எளிய உள்ளத்தோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்.

இயேசு மக்கள் கூட்டத்தைக் கண்டு மலைமீது ஏறி அமர, அவருடைய சீடர் அவர் அருகே வந்தனர். அவர் திருவாய் மலர்ந்து கற்பித்தவை:

“ஏழையரின் உள்ளத்தோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் விண்ணரசு அவர்களுக்கு உரியது. துயருறுவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் ஆறுதல் பெறுவர். கனிவுடையோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் நாட்டை உரிமைச் சொத்தாக்கிக் கொள்வர். நீதி நிலைநாட்டும் வேட்கை கொண்டோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் நிறைவு பெறுவர். இரக்கமுடையோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் இரக்கம் பெறுவர். தூய்மையான உள்ளத்தோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் கடவுளைக் காண்பர். அமைதி ஏற்படுத்துவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் கடவுளின் மக்கள் என அழைக்கப்படுவர்.

நீதியின் பொருட்டுத் துன்புறுத்தப்படுவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் விண்ணரசு அவர்களுக்கு உரியது. என் பொருட்டு மக்கள் உங்களை இகழ்ந்து, துன்புறுத்தி, உங்களைப் பற்றி இல்லாதவை பொல்லாதவையெல்லாம் சொல்லும்போது நீங்கள் பேறுபெற்றவர்களே! மகிழ்ந்து பேருவகை கொள்ளுங்கள்! ஏனெனில் விண்ணுலகில் உங்களுக்குக் கிடைக்கும் கைம்மாறு மிகுதியாகும்.”

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

பிப்ரவரி 1 : இரண்டாம் வாசகம் வலுவற்றவை என உலகம் கருதுபவற்றைக் கடவுள் தேர்ந்துகொண்டார். திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கொரிந்தியருக்கு எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 1: 26-31 சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கொரிந்தியருக்கு எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 1: 26-31

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

நீங்கள் அழைக்கப்பட்ட நிலையை எண்ணிப் பாருங்கள். மனிதக் கணிப்பின்படி உங்களுள் ஞானிகள் எத்தனை பேர்? வலியோர் எத்தனை பேர்? உயர்குடிமக்கள் எத்தனை பேர்?

ஆனால் கடவுள் ஞானிகளை வெட்கப்படுத்த, மடமை என உலகம் கருதுபவற்றைத் தேர்ந்துகொண்டார். அவ்வாறே, வலியோரை வெட்கப்படுத்த, வலுவற்றவை என உலகம் கருதுபவற்றைத் தேர்ந்துகொண்டார். உலகம் ஒரு பொருட்டாகக் கருதுபவற்றை அழித்துவிட, அது தாழ்ந்ததாகக் கருதுபவற்றையும் இகழ்ந்து தள்ளுபவற்றையும் கடவுள் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார். எவரும் கடவுள் முன் பெருமை பாராட்டாதபடி அவர் இப்படிச் செய்தார்.

அவரால்தான் நீங்கள் கிறிஸ்துவுடன் இணைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள். கிறிஸ்துவே கடவுளிடமிருந்து நமக்கு வரும் ஞானம். அவரே நம்மை ஏற்புடையவராக்கித் தூயவராக்கி மீட்கின்றார். எனவே மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ளவாறு, “பெருமை பாராட்ட விரும்புகிறவர் ஆண்டவரைக் குறித்தே பெருமை பாராட்டட்டும்.”

A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the  Corinthians 1:26-31 

Consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

அன்றொரு நாள் மாலை நேரம். இயேசு சீடர்களை நோக்கி, ‘‘அக்கரைக்குச் செல்வோம், வாருங்கள்” என்றார். அவர்கள் மக்கள் கூட்டத்தை அனுப்பிவிட்டு, படகில் இருந்தவாறே அவரைக் கூட்டிச் சென்றார்கள். வேறு படகுகளும் அவருடன் சென்றன.

அப்பொழுது ஒரு பெரும் புயல் அடித்தது. அலைகள் படகின் மேல் தொடர்ந்து மோத, அது தண்ணீரால் நிரம்பிக்கொண்டிருந்தது. அவரோ படகின் பிற்பகுதியில் தலையணை வைத்துத் தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அவர்கள், ‘‘போதகரே, சாகப் போகிறோமே! உமக்குக் கவலை இல்லையா?” என்று சொல்லி அவரை எழுப்பினார்கள். அவர் விழித்தெழுந்து காற்றைக் கடிந்துகொண்டார். கடலை நோக்கி, ‘‘இரையாதே, அமைதியாயிரு” என்றார், காற்று அடங்கியது; மிகுந்த அமைதி உண்டாயிற்று.

பின் அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி, ‘‘ஏன் அஞ்சுகிறீர்கள்? உங்களுக்கு இன்னும் நம்பிக்கை இல்லையா?” என்று கேட்டார். அவர்கள் பேரச்சம் கொண்டு, ‘‘காற்றும் கடலும் இவருக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிகின்றனவே! இவர் யாரோ?” என்று ஒருவரோடு ஒருவர் பேசிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

அந்நாள்களில்

ஆண்டவர் நாத்தானைத் தாவீதிடம் அனுப்பினார். நாத்தான் அவரிடம் வந்து, பின்வருமாறு கூறினார்: “ஒரு நகரில் இரு மனிதர் இருந்தனர்; ஒருவன் செல்வன். மற்றவனோ ஏழை. செல்வனிடம் ஆடு, மாடுகள் ஏராளமாய் இருந்தன. ஏழையிடம் ஓர் ஆட்டுக்குட்டி தவிர வேறு ஒன்றுமே இல்லை. அவன் அதை விலைக்கு வாங்கியிருந்தான். அது அவனோடும் அவன் குழந்தைகளோடும் இருந்து வளர்ந்து பெரியதாகியது. அவனது உணவை உண்டு, அவனது கிண்ணத்திலிருந்து நீர் குடித்து, அவனது மடியில் உறங்கி, அவனுக்கு ஒரு மகளைப் போலவே அது இருந்தது. வழிப்போக்கன் ஒருவன் செல்வனிடம் வந்தான். தன்னிடம் வந்த வழிப்போக்கனுக்கு உணவு தயார் செய்ய தன் ஆடுமாடுகளினின்று ஒன்றை எடுப்பதை விட்டு, அந்த ஏழையின் ஆட்டுக்குட்டியை எடுத்து வழிப்போக்கனுக்கு உணவு தயார் செய்தான்.”

உடனே தாவீது அம்மனிதன் மேல் சீற்றம் கொண்டு “ஆண்டவர் மேல் ஆணை! இதைச் செய்தவன் கட்டாயம் சாகவேண்டும், இரக்கமின்றி அவன் இதைச் செய்ததால் அவன் ஓர் ஆட்டுக்குட்டிக்காக நான்கு மடங்கு திருப்பித் தரவேண்டும்” என்று நாத்தானிடம் கூறினார்.

அப்போது நாத்தான் தாவீதிடம், “நீயே அம்மனிதன். இஸ்ரயேலின் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறார்: நீ என்னைப் புறக்கணித்து இத்தியன் உரியாவின் மனைவியை உன் மனைவியாக்கிக் கொண்டாய். இதோ! ஆண்டவர் இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறார்: உன் குடும்பத்தினின்றே நான் உனக்குத் தீங்கை வரவழைப்பேன்; உன் கண்கள் காண, உன் மனைவியரை உனக்கு அடுத்திருப்பவனிடம் ஒப்புவிப்பேன். அவன் பட்டப்பகலில் உன் மனைவியரோடு படுத்திருப்பான். நீ மறைவில் செய்ததை, அனைத்து இஸ்ரயேலும் காணுமாறு நான் பட்டப்பகலில் நிகழச்செய்வேன்” என்று கூறினார்.

அப்போது தாவீது நாத்தானிடம், “நான் ஆண்டவருக்கு எதிராகப் பாவம் செய்துவிட்டேன்” என்று சொன்னார். நாத்தான் தாவீதிடம், “ஆண்டவரும் உனது பாவத்தை நீக்கிவிட்டார். நீ சாகமாட்டாய். ஆயினும், ஆண்டவரின் எதிரிகள் அவரை இழிவாக எண்ணும்படி நீ இவ்வாறு செய்ததால் உனக்குப் பிறக்கும் மகன் உறுதியாகவே சாவான்” என்று சொன்னார்.

பின்பு நாத்தான் தம் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றார். உரியாவின் மனைவி தாவீதிற்குப் பெற்றெடுத்த குழந்தையை ஆண்டவர் தாக்க, அது நோயுற்றுச் சாகக் கிடந்தது. தாவீது அக்குழந்தைக்காக ஆண்டவரிடம் மன்றாடினார். உண்ணா நோன்பு மேற்கொண்டு உள்ளே சென்று இரவெல்லாம் தரையில் படுத்துக் கிடந்தார். அவர்தம் வீட்டின் பெரியோர்கள் தரையினின்று அவரை எழுப்பச் சென்றனர்; அவருக்கோ விருப்பம் இல்லை. அவர்களோடு அவர் உண்ணவும் இல்லை.

And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

The rich man had very many flocks and herds, but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. And he brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children. It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his cup and lie in his arms, and it was like a daughter to him. Now there came a traveller to the rich man, and he was unwilling to take one of his own flock or herd to prepare for the guest who had come to him, but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.” Then David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves to die, and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.” Nathan said to David, “You are the man!  சனவரி 30 :  நற்செய்தி வாசகம்

நிலத்தில் ஒருவர் விதைக்கிறார். அவருக்குத் தெரியாமல் விதை முளைத்து வளர்கிறது.

✠ மாற்கு எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 4: 26-34

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு கூட்டத்தை நோக்கி, “இறையாட்சியைப் பின்வரும் நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு ஒப்பிடலாம்: நிலத்தில் ஒருவர் விதைக்கிறார். அவர் எதுவும் செய்யாமலே நாள்கள் நகர்ந்து செல்கின்றன. அவருக்குத் தெரியாமல் விதை முளைத்து வளர்கிறது. முதலில் தளிர், பின்பு கதிர், அதன்பின் கதிர் நிறைய தானியம் என்று நிலம் தானாகவே விளைச்சல் அளிக்கிறது. பயிர் விளைந்ததும் அவர் அரிவாளோடு புறப்படுகிறார்; ஏனெனில் அறுவடைக் காலம் வந்துவிட்டது” என்று கூறினார்.

மேலும் அவர், “இறையாட்சியை எதற்கு ஒப்பிடலாம்? அல்லது எந்த உவமையால் அதை எடுத்துச் சொல்லலாம்? அது கடுகு விதைக்கு ஒப்பாகும். அது நிலத்தில் விதைக்கப்படும்பொழுது உலகிலுள்ள எல்லா விதைகளையும் விடச் சிறியது. அது விதைக்கப்பட்டபின் முளைத்தெழுந்து எல்லாச் செடிகளையும்விடப் பெரிதாகி, வானத்துப் பறவைகள் அதன் நிழலில் தங்கக்கூடிய அளவுக்குப் பெருங்கிளைகள் விடும்” என்று கூறினார்.

அவர்களது கேட்டறியும் திறமைக்கு ஏற்ப, அவர் இத்தகைய பல உவமைகளால் இறைவார்த்தையை அவர்களுக்கு எடுத்துரைத்து வந்தார். உவமைகள் இன்றி அவர் அவர்களோடு பேசவில்லை. ஆனால் தனிமையாக இருந்தபோது தம் சீடருக்கு அனைத்தையும் விளக்கிச் சொன்னார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

இளவேனில் காலத்தில் அரசர்கள் போருக்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் செல்வது வழக்கம். அப்பொழுது தாவீது யோவாபைத் தம் பணியாளரோடும் இஸ்ரயேலர் அனைவரோடும் அனுப்பினார். அவர்கள் அம்மோனியரைத் தோற்கடித்து இரபாவை முற்றுகை இட்டனர். தாவீதோ எருசலேமிலேயே தங்கிவிட்டார்.

ஒரு நாள் மாலை வேளை, தாவீது தம் படுக்கையிலிருந்து எழுந்து அரண்மனை மாடியில் உலாவிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அப்போது ஒரு பெண் குளித்துக் கொண்டிருந்ததை தாவீது மாடியிலிருந்து கண்டார். அவள் மிகவும் அழகிய தோற்றம் கொண்டிருந்தாள். தாவீது அவள் யாரென்று கேட்க, ஆள் அனுப்பினார். “அவள் எலியாவின் மகளும் இத்தியர் உரியாவின் மனைவியுமான பத்சேபா” என்று கூறினர். தாவீது தூதரை அனுப்பி அவளை வரவழைத்தார். அவள் தம்மிம் வந்ததும் அவர் அவளோடு உடலுறவு கொண்டார். பிறகு அவள் தன் இல்லம் சென்றாள். அப்பெண் கருவுற்றுத் தாவீதிடம் ஆள் அனுப்பி, தான் கருவுற்றிருப்பதாக அவரிடம் தெரிவித்தாள்.

அப்பொழுது தாவீது “இத்தியனான உரியாவை என்னிடம் அனுப்பிவை” என்று யோவாபுக்குச் செய்தி அனுப்பினார். யோவாபு உரியாவைத் தாவீதிடம் அனுப்பி வைத்தார். உரியா தாவீதிடம் வந்ததும் அவர் யோவாபின் நலம் பற்றியும் வீரர்களின் நலம் பற்றியும் போரின் போக்குப் பற்றியும் விசாரித்தார். பிறகு தாவீது உரியாவிடம், “உன் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்று உன் பாதங்களைக் கழுவிக்கொள்” என்றார். உரியா அரண்மனையை விட்டுச் சென்றதும் அவர் பின்னாலேயே அரசர் அன்பளிப்பு அனுப்பி வைத்தார். உரியாவோ தம் தலைவரின் பணியாளர் அனைவரோடும் அரண்மனை வாயிலிலேயே படுத்துக்கொண்டார்; தம் வீட்டுக்குச் செல்லவில்லை. உரியா தம் வீட்டுக்குச் செல்லவில்லை என்று தாவீது அறிந்ததும் தாவீது அவரிடம், “நீ நெடும் தொலையிலிருந்து வரவில்லையா? பின் ஏன் நீ வீட்டிற்குச் செல்லவில்லை?” என்று கேட்டார். தாவீது அவரை அழைத்து அவரோடு உண்டு குடித்து, அவருக்குக் குடிபோதையூட்டினார். மாலையில் அவர் தம் தலைவரின் பணியாளரோடு தம் படுக்கையில் தூங்கச் சென்றார்; தம் வீட்டுக்கு அவர் செல்லவே இல்லை.

காலையில் தாவீது யோவாபுக்கு ஒரு மடல் எழுதி, அதை உரியாவின் கையில் கொடுத்தனுப்பினார். அம்மடலில் அவர், “உரியாவைப் போர் கடுமையாக நடக்கும் முன்னிலையில் நிறுத்தி, அவனைவிட்டுப் பின்வாங்கு. அவன் வெட்டுண்டு மடியட்டும்” என்று குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தார். யோவாபு நகரை முற்றுகையிட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தபொழுது வலிமைமிகு எதிர்வீரர்கள் இருந்த இடத்தை அறிந்து அங்கே உரியாவை நிறுத்தினார். நகரின் ஆள்கள் புறப்பட்டுவந்து யோவாபைத் தாக்கினர். அப்பொழுது போரில் வீழ்ந்தவர்களுள் தாவீதின் வீரர்களும் சிலர். இத்தியர் உரியாவும் மாண்டார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark 4: 26-34 

At that time: Jesus said to the crowds, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.” And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants, and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.” With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it. He did not speak to them without a parable, but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

It happened that, in the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle, David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel. And they ravaged the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king’s house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful. And David sent and enquired about the woman. And one said, “Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” So David sent messengers and took her, and she came to him, and he lay with her. And the woman conceived, and she sent and told David, “I am pregnant.” So David sent word to Joab, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” And Joab sent Uriah to David. When Uriah came to him, David asked how Joab was doing, and how the people were doing and how the war was going. Then David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” And Uriah went out of the king’s house, and there followed him a present from the king. But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and did not go down to his house. When they told David, “Uriah did not go down to his house,” David invited him, and he ate in his presence and drank, so that he made him drunk. அந்நாள்களில்

தாவீது ஆண்டவர் திருமுன் வந்து அமர்ந்து இவ்வாறு பேசினார்: “என் தலைவராம் ஆண்டவரே! இதுவரை நீர் என்னை வழிநடத்தி வந்தமைக்கு, நான் யார்? என் குடும்பம் யாது? இருப்பினும் என் தலைவராம் ஆண்டவரே, உம் திருமுன் இது சிறிதே. உம் ஊழியனின் குடும்பத்தைப் பற்றிய எதிர்காலத்தைப் பற்றியும் நீர் பேசியுள்ளீர்! என் தலைவராம் ஆண்டவரே, மனித வழக்கம் இதுவல்லவே!

என்றும் உம் மக்களாகவே நிலைத்து இருக்குமாறு இஸ்ரயேலரை நீர் உமக்குரியவர் ஆக்கினீர்! ஆண்டவரே! நீரே அவர்களின் கடவுள் ஆனீர்! ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுளே! உமது ஊழியனைப் பற்றியும் அவனது குடும்பத்தைப் பற்றியும் நீர் தந்த உறுதிமொழியை என்றும் நிலைநாட்டும்! நீர் வாக்குறுதி அளித்தவாறே செய்யும்! உமது பெயர் என்றும் மாட்சி பெறுவதாக! அப்பொழுது மாந்தர் ‘படைகளின் ஆண்டவரே இஸ்ரயேலின் கடவுள்’ என்பர். உமது ஊழியன் தாவீதின் குடும்பமும் உம் திருமுன் நிலைத்திருக்கும்.

ஏனெனில், படைகளின் ஆண்டவரே! இஸ்ரயேலின் கடவுளே! ‘நான் உனக்கு ஓர் இல்லம் எழுப்புவேன்’ என்று உமது ஊழியனுக்கு வெளிப்படுத் தியவர் நீரே! ஆகவே இவ்வாறு மன்றாட உம் ஊழியனுக்கு மனத் துணிவு ஏற்பட்டது. தலைவராம் ஆண்டவரே! நீரே கடவுள்! உமது வார்த்தைகள் நம்பிக்கைக்கு உரியவை!

இந்த நல்வாக்கை அடியேனுக்கு அருளியவர் நீரே! உம் ஊழியனின் குடும்பம் என்றும் உம் திருமுன் இருக்குமாறு நீர் அருள்கூர்ந்து அதற்கு ஆசி வழங்கும்! தலைவராகிய நீர் உரைத்துள்ளீர்! உம் ஊழியனின் குடும்பம் என்றும் உமது ஆசியைப் பெறுவதாக!”

After Nathan had spoken to David, King David went in and sat before the Lord, and said, “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? And yet this was a small thing in your eyes, O Lord God. You have spoken also of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and this is instruction for mankind, O Lord God! And you established for yourself your people Israel to be your people for ever. And you, O Lord, became their God. And now, O Lord God, confirm for ever the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house, and do as you have spoken. And your name will be magnified for ever, saying, ‘The Lord of hosts is God over Israel’, and the house of your servant David will be established before you. அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு மீண்டும் கடலோரத்தில் கற்பிக்கத் தொடங்கினார். மாபெரும் மக்கள் கூட்டம் அவரிடம் ஒன்றுகூடி வர, அவர் கடலில் நின்ற ஒரு படகில் ஏறி அமர்ந்தார். திரண்டிருந்த மக்கள் அனைவரும் கடற்கரையில் இருந்தனர். அவர் உவமைகள் வாயிலாகப் பலவற்றை அவர்களுக்குக் கற்பித்தார்.

அவர் அவர்களுக்குக் கற்பித்தது: “இதோ, கேளுங்கள். விதைப்பவர் ஒருவர் விதைக்கச் சென்றார். அவர் விதைக்கும்பொழுது சில விதைகள் வழியோரம் விழுந்தன. பறவைகள் வந்து அவற்றை விழுங்கிவிட்டன. வேறு சில விதைகள் மிகுதியாக மண் இல்லாப் பாறைப் பகுதிகளில் விழுந்தன. அங்கே மண் ஆழமாக இல்லாததால் அவை விரைவில் முளைத்தன. ஆனால் கதிரவன் மேலே எழ, அவை காய்ந்து, வேர் இல்லாமையால் கருகிப் போயின. மற்றும் சில விதைகள் முட்செடிகளிடையே விழுந்தன. முட்செடிகள் வளர்ந்து அவற்றை நெருக்கி விடவே, அவை விளைச்சலைக் கொடுக்கவில்லை. ஆனால் இன்னும் சில விதைகள் நல்ல நிலத்தில் விழுந்தன. அவை முளைத்து வளர்ந்து, சில முப்பது மடங்காகவும் சில அறுபது மடங்காகவும் சில நூறு மடங்காகவும் விளைச்சலைக் கொடுத்தன. கேட்கச் செவியுள்ளோர் கேட்கட்டும்.”

மேலும் அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “இந்த உவமை உங்களுக்குப் புரியவில்லையா? பின்பு எப்படி மற்ற உவமைகளையெல்லாம் நீங்கள் புரிந்துகொள்வீர்கள்? விதைப்பவர் இறைவார்த்தையை விதைக்கிறார். வழியோரம் விழுந்த விதைகளுக்கு ஒப்பானவர்கள் வார்த்தையைக் கேட்பார்கள். ஆனால் அதைக் கேட்டவுடன் சாத்தான் வந்து அவர்களுள் விதைக்கப்பட்ட வார்த்தையை எடுத்துவிடுகிறான். பாறைப் பகுதியில் விதைக்கப்பட்ட விதைகளுக்கு ஒப்பானவர்கள் இறைவார்த்தையைக் கேட்டவுடன் அதை மகிழ்ச்சியோடு ஏற்றுக்கொள்வார்கள். ஆனால் அவர்கள் வேரற்றவர்கள்; சிறிது காலமே நிலைத்திருப்பவர்கள். இறைவார்த்தையின் பொருட்டு இன்னலோ இடுக்கண்ணோ நேர்ந்த உடனே அவர்கள் தடுமாற்றம் அடைவார்கள். முட்செடிகளுக்கு இடையில் விதைக்கப்பட்ட விதைகளுக்கு ஒப்பானவர்கள் இறைவார்த்தையைக் கேட்டும், உலகக் கவலையும் செல்வ மாயையும் ஏனைய தீய ஆசைகளும் உட்புகுந்து அவ்வார்த்தையை நெருக்கிவிடுவதால், பயன் அளிக்க மாட்டார்கள். நல்ல நிலத்தில் விதைக்கப்பட்ட விதைகளுக்கு ஒப்பானவர்கள் இறைவார்த்தையைக் கேட்டு அதை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு பயன் அளிப்பார்கள். இவர்களுள் சிலர் முப்பது மடங்காகவும் சிலர் அறுபது மடங்காகவும் சிலர் நூறு மடங்காகவும் பயன் அளிப்பர்” என்றார்.

Jesus began to teach by the lakeside, but such a huge crowd gathered round him that he got into a boat on the lake and sat there. The people were all along the shore, at the water’s edge. He taught them many things in parables, and in the course of his teaching he said to them, ‘Listen! Imagine a sower going out to sow. Now it happened that, as he sowed, some of the seed fell on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some seed fell on rocky ground where it found little soil and sprang up straightaway, because there was no depth of earth; and when the sun came up it was scorched and, not having any roots, it withered away. Some seed fell into thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it produced no crop. And some seeds fell into rich soil and, growing tall and strong, produced crop; and yielded thirty, sixty, even a hundredfold.’ And he said, ‘Listen, anyone who has ears to hear!’

  When he was alone, the Twelve, together with the others who formed his company, asked what the parables meant. He told them, ‘The secret of the kingdom of God is given to you, but to those who are outside everything comes in parables, so that they may see and see again, but not perceive; may hear and hear again, but not understand; otherwise they might be converted and be forgiven.’

  He said to them, ‘Do you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand any of the parables? What the sower is sowing is the word. Those on the edge of the path where the word is sown are people who have no sooner heard it than Satan comes and carries away the word that was sown in them. Similarly, those who receive the seed on patches of rock are people who, when first they hear the word, welcome it at once with joy. But they have no root in them, they do not last; should some trial come, or some persecution on account of the word, they fall away at once. Then there are others who receive the seed in thorns. These have heard the word, but the worries of this world, the lure of riches and all the other passions come in to choke the word, and so it produces nothing. And there are those who have received the seed in rich soil: they hear the word and accept it and yield a harvest, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.’

The word of the Lord came to Nathan:

  ‘Go and tell my servant David, “Thus the Lord speaks: Are you the man to build me a house to dwell in? I have never stayed in a house from the day I brought the Israelites out of Egypt until today, but have always led a wanderer’s life in a tent. In all my journeying with the whole people of Israel, did I say to any one of the judges of Israel, whom I had appointed as shepherds of Israel my people: Why have you not built me a house of cedar?” This is what you must say to my servant David, “The Lord of Hosts says this: I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader of my people Israel; I have been with you on all your expeditions; I have cut off all your enemies before you. I will give you fame as great as the fame of the greatest on earth. I will provide a place for my people Israel; I will plant them there and they shall dwell in that place and never be disturbed again; nor shall the wicked continue to oppress them as they did, in the days when I appointed judges over my people Israel; I will give them rest from all their enemies. The Lord will make you great; the Lord will make you a House.   Nathan related all these words to David and this whole revelation.

David dances before the ark of the Lord

A reading from the second book of  Samuel 6:12-15,17-19 

David went and brought the ark of God up from Obed-edom’s house to the Citadel of David with great rejoicing. When the bearers of the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fat sheep. And David danced whirling round before the Lord with all his might, wearing a linen loincloth round him. Thus David and all the House of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with acclaim and the sound of the horn. They brought the ark of the Lord in and put it in position inside the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered holocausts before the Lord, and communion sacrifices. And when David had finished offering holocausts and communion sacrifices, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of Hosts. He then distributed among all the people, among the whole multitude of Israelites, men and women, a roll of bread to each, a portion of dates, and a raisin cake. Then they all went away, each to his own house.

அக்காலத்தில்

ஆண்டவர் வேறு எழுபத்திரண்டு பேரை நியமித்து, அவர்களைத் தாம் போக இருந்த எல்லா ஊர்களுக்கும் இடங்களுக்கும் தமக்கு முன்னே இருவர் இருவராக அனுப்பினார்.

அப்போது அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “அறுவடை மிகுதி; வேலையாள்களோ குறைவு. ஆகையால் தமது அறுவடைக்குத் தேவையான வேலையாள்களை அனுப்பும்படி அறுவடையின் உரிமையாளரிடம் மன்றாடுங்கள். புறப்பட்டுப் போங்கள்; ஓநாய்களிடையே ஆட்டுக் குட்டிகளை அனுப்புவதுபோல் உங்களை நான் அனுப்புகிறேன். பணப் பையோ வேறு பையோ மிதியடிகளோ எதுவும் நீங்கள் எடுத்துச் செல்ல வேண்டாம்; வழியில் எவருக்கும் வணக்கம் செலுத்த வேண்டாம்.

நீங்கள் எந்த வீட்டுக்குள் சென்றாலும், ‘இந்த வீட்டுக்கு அமைதி உண்டாகுக!’ என முதலில் கூறுங்கள். அமைதியை விரும்புபவர் அங்கு இருந்தால், நீங்கள் வாழ்த்திக் கூறிய அமைதி அவரிடம் தங்கும்; இல்லாவிட்டால் அது உங்களிடமே திரும்பிவிடும்.

அவர்களிடம் உள்ளதை நீங்கள் உண்டு குடித்து அந்த வீட்டிலேயே தங்கியிருங்கள். ஏனெனில் வேலையாளர் தம் கூலிக்கு உரிமை உடையவரே.

வீடு வீடாய்ச் செல்ல வேண்டாம். நீங்கள் செல்லும் ஊரில் உங்களை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டால் உங்களுக்குப் பரிமாறுவதை உண்ணுங்கள். அங்கு உடல் நலம் குன்றியோரைக் குணமாக்கி, இறையாட்சி அவர்களை நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது எனச் சொல்லுங்கள்.”

என் அன்பார்ந்த பிள்ளை திமொத்தேயுவுக்கு, கடவுளின் திருவுளத்தால் கிறிஸ்து இயேசு அருளும் வாழ்வு பற்றிய வாக்குறுதிக்கு ஏற்ப அவருடைய திருத்தூதனான பவுல் எழுதுவது:

உன்மீது என் கைகளை வைத்துத் திருப்பணியில் அமர்த்தியபோது உனக்குள் எழுந்த கடவுளின் அருள்கொடையினைத் தூண்டி எழுப்புமாறு நினைவுறுத்துகிறேன். கடவுள் நமக்குக் கோழை உள்ளத்தினை அல்ல, வல்லமையும் அன்பும் கட்டுப்பாடும் கொண்ட உள்ளத்தையே வழங்கியுள்ளார்.

The Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them out ahead of him, in pairs, to all the towns and places he himself was to visit. He said to them, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest. Start off now, but remember, I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Carry no purse, no haversack, no sandals. Salute no one on the road. Whatever house you go into, let your first words be, “Peace to this house!” And if a man of peace lives there, your peace will go and rest on him; if not, it will come back to you. Stay in the same house, taking what food and drink they have to offer, for the labourer deserves his wages; do not move from house to house. Whenever you go into a town where they make you welcome, eat what is set before you. Cure those in it who are sick, and say, “The kingdom of God is very near to you.”’

Fan into a flame the gift God gave you

A Reading from the Second letter of St.Paul to Timothy 1:1-8 

From Paul, appointed by God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus in his design to promise life in Christ Jesus; to Timothy, dear child of mine, wishing you grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Lord.

  Night and day I thank God, keeping my conscience clear and remembering my duty to him as my ancestors did, and always I remember you in my prayers; I remember your tears and long to see you again to complete my happiness. Then I am reminded of the sincere faith which you have; it came first to live in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice, and I have no doubt that it is the same faith in you as well.

  That is why I am reminding you now to fan into a flame the gift that God gave you when I laid my hands on you. God’s gift was not a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power, and love, and self-control. So you are never to be ashamed of witnessing to the Lord, or ashamed of me for being his prisoner; but with me, bear the hardships for the sake of the Good News, relying on the power of God who has saved us and called us to be holy.

யோவான் கைது செய்யப்பட்டதை இயேசு கேள்விப்பட்டுக் கலிலேயாவுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார். அவர் நாசரேத்தை விட்டு அகன்று செபுலோன், நப்தலி ஆகிய இடங்களின் எல்லையில் கடலோரமாய் அமைந்திருந்த கப்பர்நாகுமுக்குச் சென்று குடியிருந்தார். இறைவாக்கினர் எசாயா உரைத்த பின்வரும் வாக்கு இவ்வாறு நிறைவேறியது:

‘‘செபுலோன் நாடே! நப்தலி நாடே! பெருங்கடல் வழிப் பகுதியே! யோர்தானுக்கு அப்பாலுள்ள நிலப்பரப்பே! பிற இனத்தவர் வாழும் கலிலேயப் பகுதியே! காரிருளில் இருந்த மக்கள் பேரொளியைக் கண்டார்கள். சாவின் நிழல் சூழ்ந்துள்ள நாட்டில் குடியிருப்போர்மேல் சுடரொளி உதித்துள்ளது.”

அதுமுதல் இயேசு, ‘‘மனம் மாறுங்கள், ஏனெனில் விண்ணரசு நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது” எனப் பறைசாற்றத் தொடங்கினார்.

இயேசு கலிலேயக் கடலோரமாய் நடக்கும்போது, சகோதரர் இருவரைக் கண்டார். ஒருவர் பேதுரு எனப்படும் சீமோன், மற்றவர் அவர் சகோதரரான அந்திரேயா. மீனவரான அவ்விருவரும் கடலில் வலை வீசிக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். இயேசு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, ‘‘என் பின்னே வாருங்கள்; நான் உங்களை மனிதரைப் பிடிப்பவர் ஆக்குவேன்” என்றார். உடனே அவர்கள் வலைகளை விட்டுவிட்டு அவரைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள்.

அங்கிருந்து அப்பால் சென்றபோது வேறு இரு சகோதரர்களைக் கண்டார். அவர்கள் செபதேயுவின் மகன் யாக்கோபும் அவர் சகோதரரான யோவானும் ஆவர். அவர்கள் தங்கள் தந்தை செபதேயுவுடன் படகில் வலைகளைப் பழுது பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். இயேசு அவர்களையும் அழைத்தார். உடனே அவர்கள் தங்கள் படகையும் தந்தையையும் விட்டுவிட்டு அவரைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள்.

அவர் கலிலேயப் பகுதி முழுவதும் சுற்றி வந்தார்; அவர்களுடைய தொழுகைக்கூடங்களில் கற்பித்தார்; விண்ணரசு பற்றிய நற்செய்தியைப் பறைசாற்றினார்; மக்களிடையே இருந்த நோய் நொடிகள் அனைத்தையும் குணமாக்கினார்.

என் அன்பர்களே, உங்களிடையே சண்டை சச்சரவுகள் இருப்பதாகக் குலோயி வீட்டார் எனக்குத் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். நான் இதைச் சொல்லக் காரணம், உங்களுள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் ‘நான் பவுலைச் சார்ந்துள்ளேன்’ என்றோ ‘நான் அப்பொல்லோவைச் சார்ந்துள்ளேன்’ என்றோ ‘நான் கேபாவைச் சார்ந்துள்ளேன்’ என்றோ, ‘நான் கிறிஸ்துவைச் சார்ந்துள்ளேன்’ என்றோ சொல்லிக்கொள்கிறீர்களாம்.

கிறிஸ்து இப்படிப் பிளவுபட்டுள்ளாரா? அல்லது பவுலா உங்களுக்காகச் சிலுவையில் அறையப்பட்டான்? அல்லது பவுலின் பெயரிலா நீங்கள் திருமுழுக்குப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டீர்கள்? திருமுழுக்குக் கொடுப்பதற்கு அல்ல, நற்செய்தியை அறிவிக்கவே கிறிஸ்து என்னை அனுப்பினார். மனித ஞானத்தின் அடிப்படையிலான சொற்களில் இந்நற்செய்தியை அறிவித்தல் ஆகாது. அவ்வாறு அறிவித்தால் கிறிஸ்துவின் சிலுவை பொருளற்றுப் போய்விடும்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 4:12-23 

When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee. And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.” From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.

A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 1:10-13,17 

I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarrelling among you, my brothers. What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul”, or “I follow Apollos”, or “I follow Cephas”, or “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptised in the name of Paul? For Christ did not send me to baptise but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. அந்நாள்களில்

சவுல் இறந்தபின், அமலேக்கியரைத் தோற்கடித்துத் திரும்புகையில் தாவீது சிக்லாகில் இரண்டு நாள்கள் தங்கினார். மூன்றாம் நாள், சவுலின் பாசறையினின்று கிழிந்த ஆடைகளோடும், புழுதிபடிந்த தலையோடும் ஒருவன் வந்தான். அவன் தாவீதிடம் வந்ததும், தரையில் வீழ்ந்து வணங்கினான். “நீ எங்கிருந்து வருகிறாய்?” என்று தாவீது அவனை வினவ, “நான் இஸ்ரயேல் பாசறையினின்று தப்பி வந்துவிட்டேன்” என்று அவன் பதில் கூறினான். “என்ன நடந்தது? என்னிடம் சொல்” என்று தாவீது கேட்க, அவன், “வீரர்கள் போரினின்று ஓடிவிட்டனர்; அவர்களுள் பலர் வீழ்ந்து மடிந்துவிட்டனர்; சவுலும் அவருடைய மகன் யோனத்தானும் இறந்துவிட்டனர்” என்று கூறினான்.

தாவீது தம் ஆடைகளைப் பற்றிக் கிழித்தார். அவரோடு இருந்தவர்களும் அவ்வாறே செய்தனர். சவுலுக்காகவும், அவருடைய மகன் யோனத் தானுக்காகவும், ஆண்டவரின் மக்களுக்காகவும் இஸ்ரயேல் வீட்டாருக்காகவும் அவர்கள் அழுது புலம்பி மாலைவரை நோன்பு இருந்தார்கள். ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் வாளால் மடிந்துவிட்டார்கள். ‘இஸ்ரயேலே! உனது மாட்சி உன் மலைகளிலே மாண்டு கிடக்கின்றது! மாவீரர் எவ்வாறு மடிந்தனர்! சவுல்! யோனத்தான்! அன்புடையார், அருளுடையார்! வாழ்விலும் சாவிலும் இணைபிரியார்! கழுகினும் அவர்கள் விரைந்து செல்வர்! அரியினும் அவர்கள் வலிமைமிக்கோர்!

In those days: After the death of Saul, when David had returned from striking down the Amalekites, David remained two days in Ziklag. And on the third day, behold, a man came from Saul’s camp, with his clothes torn and dirt on his head. And when he came to David, he fell to the ground and paid homage. David said to him, “Where do you come from?” And he said to him, “I have escaped from the camp of Israel.” And David said to him, “How did it go? Tell me.” And he answered, “The people fled from the battle, and also many of the people have fallen and are dead, and Saul and his son Jonathan are also dead.” Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them, and so did all the men who were with him.
