இயேசு மக்கள் கூட்டத்தை நோக்கி: “வாழ்வு தரும் உணவு நானே. என்னிடம் வருபவருக்குப் பசியே இராது; என்னிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருப்பவருக்கு என்றுமே தாகம் இராது. ஆனால், நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொன்னவாறே நீங்கள் என்னைக் கண்டிருந்தும் நம்பவில்லை. தந்தை என்னிடம் ஒப்படைக்கும் அனைவரும் என்னிடம் வந்து சேருவர். என்னிடம் வருபவரை நான் புறம்பே தள்ளிவிடமாட்டேன். ஏனெனில் என் சொந்த விருப்பத்தை நிறைவேற்ற அல்ல, என்னை அனுப்பியவரின் விருப்பத்தை நிறைவேற்றவே நான் விண்ணகத்திலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்தேன்.

அவர் என்னிடம் ஒப்படைக்கும் எவரையும் நான் அழிய விடாமல் இறுதி நாளில் அனைவரையும் உயிர்த்தெழச்செய்ய வேண்டும். இதுவே என்னை அனுப்பியவரின் திருவுளம். மகனைக் கண்டு அவரிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளும் அனைவரும் நிலைவாழ்வு பெற வேண்டும் என்பதே என் தந்தையின் திருவுளம். நானும் இறுதி நாளில் அவர்களை உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்வேன்” என்று கூறினார்.

அந்த நாள்களில் எருசலேம் திருச்சபை பெரும் இன்னலுக்கு உள்ளாகியது. திருத்தூதர்களைத் தவிர மற்ற அனைவரும் யூதேயா, சமாரியாவின் நாட்டுப் புறமெங்கும் சிதறடிக்கப்பட்டுப் போயினர். இறைப்பற்று உள்ள மக்கள் ஸ்தேவானை அடக்கம் செய்து, அவருக்காக மாரடித்துப் பெரிதும் புலம்பினர். சவுல் வீடுவீடாய் நுழைந்து ஆண்களையும் பெண்களையும் இழுத்துக் கொண்டுபோய், அவர்களைச் சிறையிலடைக்கச் செய்தார். இவ்வாறு அவர் திருச்சபையை அழித்துவந்தார்.

சிதறிய மக்கள் தாங்கள் சென்ற இடமெல்லாம் நற்செய்தியை அறிவித்து வந்தனர். பிலிப்பு சமாரியா நகர் சென்று அங்குள்ள மக்களுக்கு மெசியாவைப்பற்றி அறிவித்தார். பிலிப்பு சொன்னவற்றைக் கேட்டும் அவர் செய்த அரும் அடையாளங்களைக் கண்டும் வந்த திரளான மக்கள் ஒருமனத்தோடு அவருக்குச் செவிசாய்த்தனர். ஏனெனில் பலரைப் பிடித்திருந்த தீய ஆவிகள் அவர்களிடமிருந்து உரத்த குரலுடன் கூச்சலிட்டுக்கொண்டே வெளியேறின. முடக்குவாதமுற்றோர், கால் ஊனமுற்றோர் பலரும் குணம் பெற்றனர். இதனால் அந்நகரில் பெரும் மகிழ்ச்சி உண்டாயிற்று.

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles 8:1-8

There arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. Devout men buried Stephen and made great lamentation over him. But Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison. Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word. Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ. And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip, when they heard him and saw the signs that he did. For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who had them, and many who were paralysed or lame were healed. So there was much joy in that city.

மக்கள் இயேசுவிடம், “நாங்கள் கண்டு உம்மை நம்பும் வகையில் நீர் என்ன அரும் அடையாளம் காட்டுகிறீர்? அதற்காக என்ன அரும் செயல் செய்கிறீர்? எங்கள் முன்னோர் பாலை நிலத்தில் மன்னாவை உண்டனரே! ‘அவர்கள் உண்பதற்கு வானிலிருந்து உணவு அருளினார்’ என்று மறைநூலிலும் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது அல்லவா!” என்றனர்.

ஸ்தேவான் மக்களையும் மூப்பரையும் மறைநூல் அறிஞரையும் நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “திமிர் பிடித்தவர்களே, இறைவார்த்தையைக் கேட்க மறுக்கும் செவியும் ஏற்க மறுக்கும் உள்ளமும் கொண்டவர்களே, உங்களுடைய மூதாதையரைப் போல நீங்களும் தூய ஆவியாரை எப்போதும் எதிர்க்கிறீர்கள். எந்த இறைவாக்கினரைத்தான் உங்கள் மூதாதையர் துன்புறுத்தாமல் இருந்தார்கள்? நேர்மையாளருடைய வருகையை முன்னறிவித்தோரையும் அவர்கள் கொலை செய்தார்கள். இப்போது நீங்கள் இயேசுவைக் காட்டிக் கொடுத்துக் கொன்றுவிட்டீர்கள். கடவுளின் தூதர்கள் வழியாய்த் தரப்பட்ட திருச்சட்டத்தை நீங்கள் பெற்றிருந்தும் அதனைக் கடைப்பிடிக்கவில்லை.”

இவற்றைக் கேட்டவர்கள் உள்ளம் கொதித்தெழுந்து, அவரைப் பார்த்துப் பற்களை நறநறவெனக் கடித்தார்கள். அவரோ தூய ஆவியின் வல்லமையை நிறைவாய்ப் பெற்று, வானத்தை உற்றுநோக்கினார். அப்போது கடவுளின் மாட்சியையும் அவர் வலப்பக்கத்தில் இயேசு நிற்பதையும் கண்டு, “இதோ, வானம் திறந்திருப்பதையும், மானிட மகன் கடவுளது வலப்பக்கத்தில் நிற்பதையும் காண்கிறேன்” என்று கூறினார். ஆனால் அவர்கள் தங்கள் செவிகளை அடைத்துக்கொண்டு, பெருங் கூச்சலிட்டு, ஒருமிக்க அவர் மேல் பாய்ந்தார்கள். நகரத்திற்கு வெளியே இழுத்துக் கொண்டுபோய் அவர்மேல் கல்லெறிந்தார்கள். சாட்சிகள் தங்கள் மேலுடைகளைச் சவுல் எனும் இளைஞரிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார்கள். அவர்கள் ஸ்தேவான்மீது கல்லெறிந்தபோது அவர், “ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசுவே, எனது ஆவியை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும்” என்று வேண்டிக்கொண்டார். பின்பு முழந்தாள்படியிட்டு, உரத்த குரலில், “ஆண்டவரே, இந்தப் பாவத்தை இவர்கள்மேல் சுமத்தாதேயும்” என்று சொல்லி உயிர்விட்டார்.

In those days: Stephen said to the people and the elders and the scribes, “You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.” Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him. But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him. Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. இயேசு ஐயாயிரம் பேருக்கு உணவு அளித்த பின், சீடர்கள் புறப்பட்ட கரையிலேயே மறுநாளும் மக்கள் கூட்டமாய் நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தார்கள். முந்தின நாள் ஒரு படகைத் தவிர வேறு படகு எதுவும் அங்கு இல்லை என்பதையும் அதில் இயேசுவின் சீடர்கள் மட்டும் போனார்களே அன்றி இயேசு அவர்களோடு அப்படகில் ஏறவில்லை என்பதையும் அவர்கள் கண்கூடாகப் பார்த்திருந்தார்கள். அப்போது, ஆண்டவர் கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்திக் கொடுத்த உணவை மக்கள் உண்ட இடத்திற்கு அருகில், திபேரியாவிலிருந்து படகுகள் வந்து சேர்ந்தன. இயேசுவும் அவருடைய சீடரும் அங்கு இல்லை என்பதைக் கண்ட மக்கள் கூட்டமாய் அப்படகுகளில் ஏறி இயேசுவைத் தேடிக் கப்பர்நாகுமுக்குச் சென்றனர். அங்கு கடற்கரையில் அவர்கள் அவரைக் கண்டு, “ரபி, எப்போது இங்கு வந்தீர்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

இயேசு மறுமொழியாக, “நீங்கள் அரும் அடையாளங்களைக் கண்டதால் அல்ல, மாறாக, அப்பங்களை வயிறார உண்டதால்தான் என்னைத் தேடுகிறீர்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். அழிந்து போகும் உணவுக்காக உழைக்க வேண்டாம். நிலைவாழ்வு தரும் அழியாத உணவுக்காகவே உழையுங்கள். அவ்வுணவை மானிட மகன் உங்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பார். ஏனெனில் தந்தையாகிய கடவுள் அவருக்கே தம் அதிகாரத்தை அளித்துள்ளார்” என்றார். அவர்கள் அவரை நோக்கி, “எங்கள் செயல்கள் கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்றவையாக இருப்பதற்கு நாங்கள் என்ன செய்யவேண்டும்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

இயேசு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “கடவுள் அனுப்பியவரை நம்புவதே கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்ற செயல்” என்றார்.

ஸ்தேவான் அருளும் வல்லமையும் நிறைந்தவராய் மக்களிடையே பெரும் அருஞ்செயல்களையும் அரும் அடையாளங்களையும் செய்து வந்தார். அப்பொழுது உரிமையடைந்தோர் எனப்படுவோரின் தொழுகைக் கூடத்தைச் சேர்ந்த சிலரும் சிரேன், அலக்சாந்திரியா நகரினரும் சிலிசியா, ஆசியா மாநிலத்தவரும் ஸ்தேவானோடு வாதாடத் தொடங்கினர். ஆனால் அவரது ஞானத்தையும் தூய ஆவி வாயிலாக அவர் பேசிய வார்த்தை களையும் எதிர்த்து நிற்க அவர்களால் இயலவில்லை.

After five thousand men had eaten their fill, the disciples of Jesus saw him walking on the sea. On the next day the crowd that remained on the other side of the lake saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone. Other boats from Tiberias came near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and went to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. When they found him on the other side of the lake, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen. But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. Then they secretly instigated men who said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.” And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the Council, and they set up false witnesses who said, “This man never ceases to speak words against this holy place and the law, for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and will change the customs that Moses delivered to us.” And gazing at him, all who sat in the Council saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “அறிவிலிகளே! இறைவாக்கினர்கள் உரைத்த எல்லாவற்றையும் நம்ப இயலாத மந்த உள்ளத்தினரே! மெசியா தாம் மாட்சியடைவதற்குமுன் இத்துன்பங்களைப் படவேண்டுமல்லவா!” என்றார். மேலும் மோசேமுதல் இறைவாக்கினர்வரை அனைவரின் நூல்களிலும் தம்மைக் குறித்து எழுதப்பட்ட யாவற்றையும் அவர் அவர்களுக்கு விளக்கினார்.

அவர்கள் தாங்கள் போகவேண்டிய ஊரை நெருங்கி வந்தார்கள். அவரோ அதற்கு அப்பால் போகிறவர்போலக் காட்டிக்கொண்டார். அவர்கள் அவரிடம், “எங்களோடு தங்கும்; ஏனெனில் மாலை நேரம் ஆயிற்று; பொழுதும் போயிற்று” என்று கூறிக் கட்டாயப்படுத்தி அவரை இணங்கவைத்தார்கள். அவர் அங்குத் தங்குமாறு அவர்களோடு சென்றார். அவர்களோடு அவர் பந்தியில் அமர்ந்திருந்தபோது அப்பத்தை எடுத்து, கடவுளைப் போற்றி, பிட்டு அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார். அப்போது அவர்கள் கண்கள் திறந்தன. அவர்களும் அவரை அடையாளம் கண்டுகொண்டார்கள். உடனே அவர் அவர்களிடமிருந்து மறைந்துபோனார். அப்போது, அவர்கள் ஒருவரையொருவர் நோக்கி, “வழியிலே அவர் நம்மோடு பேசி, மறைநூலை விளக்கும்போது நம் உள்ளம் பற்றி எரியவில்லையா?” என்று பேசிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

பெந்தக்கோஸ்து என்னும் நாள் வந்தபோது பேதுரு பதினொருவருடன் சேர்ந்து, எழுந்து நின்று, உரத்த குரலில் அவர்களிடம் பின்வருமாறு கூறினார்: “யூத மக்களே, எருசலேமில் வாழும் மக்களே, இதைத் தெரிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள்; எனது சொற்களைக் கவனித்துக் கேளுங்கள்.

That very day [the first day of the week] two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. மாலை வேளையானதும் இயேசுவின் சீடர்கள் கடற்கரைக்கு வந்து, படகேறி மறுகரையிலுள்ள கப்பர்நாகுமுக்குப் புறப்பட்டார்கள், ஏற்கெனவே இருட்டிவிட்டது. இயேசுவும் அவர்களிடம் அதுவரை வந்து சேரவில்லை. அப்போது பெருங்காற்று வீசிற்று; கடல் பொங்கி எழுந்தது.

In these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. இயேசு கலிலேயக் கடலைக் கடந்து மறுகரைக்குச் சென்றார். அதற்குத் திபேரியக் கடல் என்றும் பெயர் உண்டு. உடல் நலம் அற்றோருக்கு அவர் செய்துவந்த அரும் அடையாளங்களைக் கண்டு மக்கள் பெருந்திரளாய் அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தனர். இயேசு மலைமேல் ஏறித் தம் சீடரோடு அமர்ந்தார். யூதருடைய பாஸ்கா விழா அண்மையில் நிகழவிருந்தது.

இயேசு நிமிர்ந்து பார்த்து மக்கள் பெருந்திரளாய் அவரிடம் வருவதைக் கண்டு, “இவர்கள் உண்பதற்கு நாம் எங்கிருந்து அப்பம் வாங்கலாம்?” என்று பிலிப்பிடம் கேட்டார். தாம் செய்யப்போவதை அறிந்திருந்தும் அவரைச் சோதிப்பதற்காகவே இக்கேள்வியைக் கேட்டார். பிலிப்பு மறுமொழியாக, “இருநூறு தெனாரியத்திற்கு அப்பம் வாங்கினாலும் ஆளுக்கு ஒரு சிறு துண்டும் கிடைக்காதே” என்றார். அவருடைய சீடருள் ஒருவரும் சீமோன் பேதுருவின் சகோதரருமான அந்திரேயா, “இங்கே சிறுவன் ஒருவன் இருக்கிறான். அவனிடம் ஐந்து வாற்கோதுமை அப்பங்களும் இரண்டு மீன்களும் உள்ளன. ஆனால் இத்தனை பேருக்கு இவை எப்படிப் போதும்?” என்றார்.

இயேசு, “மக்களை அமரச் செய்யுங்கள்” என்றார். அப்பகுதி முழுவதும் புல்தரையாய் இருந்தது. அமர்ந்திருந்த ஆண்களின் எண்ணிக்கை ஏறக் குறைய ஐயாயிரம். இயேசு அப்பங்களை எடுத்து, கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தி, அமர்ந்திருந்தோருக்குக் கொடுத்தார். அவ்வாறே மீன்களையும் பகிர்ந்தளித்தார். அவர்களுக்கு வேண்டிய மட்டும் கிடைத்தது. அவர்கள் வயிறார உண்டபின், “ஒன்றும் வீணாகாதபடி, எஞ்சிய துண்டுகளைச் சேர்த்து வையுங்கள்” என்று தம் சீடரிடம் கூறினார். மக்கள் உண்டபின் ஐந்து வாற்கோதுமை அப்பங்களிலிருந்து எஞ்சிய துண்டுகளைச் சேர்த்துச் சீடர்கள் பன்னிரண்டு கூடைகளில் நிரப்பினார்கள்.

இயேசு செய்த இந்த அரும் அடையாளத்தைக் கண்ட மக்கள், “உலகிற்கு வரவிருந்த இறைவாக்கினர் உண்மையில் இவரே” என்றார்கள். அவர்கள் வந்து தம்மைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு போய் அரசராக்கப் போகிறார்கள் என்பதை உணர்ந்து இயேசு மீண்டும் தனியாய் மலைக்குச் சென்றார்.

கமாலியேல் என்னும் பெயருடைய பரிசேயர் ஒருவர் தலைமைச் சங்கத்தில் எழுந்து நின்றார். இவர் மக்கள் அனைவராலும் மதிக்கப்பட்ட திருச்சட்ட ஆசிரியர். திருத்தூதரைச் சிறிது நேரம் வெளியே போகும்படி ஆணையிட்டு, அவர் சங்கத்தாரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களே, இந்த மனிதர்களுக்கு நீங்கள் செய்ய எண்ணியுள்ளதைக் குறித்து எச்சரிக்கையாய் இருங்கள். சிறிது காலத்திற்கு முன்பு தெயுதா என்பவன் தோன்றி, தான் பெரியவன் என்று கூறிக்கொண்டு, ஏறத்தாழ நானூறு பேரைத் தன்னுடன் சேர்த்துக்கொண்டான். ஆனால், அவன் கொல்லப்பட்டான். அவனைப் பின்பற்றிய அனைவரும் சிதறிப் போகவே, அந்த இயக்கம் ஒன்றுமில்லாமல் போயிற்று. இவற்றுக்குப் பின்பு மக்கள் தொகை கணக்கிடப்பட்ட நாள்களில் கலிலேயனான யூதா என்பவன் தோன்றித் தன்னோடு சேர்ந்து கிளர்ச்சி செய்யும்படி மக்களைத் தூண்டினான். அவனும் அழிந்தான்; அவனைப் பின்பற்றிய மக்கள் அனைவரும் சிதறிப்போயினர்.

They were glad to have had the honour of suffering humiliation for the sake of the name

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles  5:34-42 

In those days: A Pharisee in the Council named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in honour by all the people, stood up and gave orders to put the men outside for a little while. And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you are about to do with these men. For before these days Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined him. He was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. After him Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of the census and drew away some of the people after him. He too perished, and all who followed him were scattered. So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice, and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. Then they left the presence of the Council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonour for the name. And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.

திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் தன் சீடர்களிடம் கூறியது: மேலிருந்து வருபவர், அனைவரையும்விட மேலானவர். மண்ணுலகிலிருந்து உண்டானவர் மண்ணுலகைச் சேர்ந்தவர். மண்ணுலகு சார்ந்தவை பற்றியே அவர் பேசுகிறார். விண்ணுலகிலிருந்து வருபவர், அனைவருக்கும் மேலானவர். தாம் கண்டதையும் கேட்டதையும் பற்றியே அவர் சான்று பகர்கிறார். எனினும் அவர் தரும் சான்றை எவரும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்வதில்லை. அவர் தரும் சான்றை ஏற்றுக்கொள்பவர் கடவுள் உண்மையானவர் என்பதை உறுதிப்படுத்துகிறார்.

கடவுளால் அனுப்பப்பெற்றவர் கடவுளின் வார்த்தைகளைப் பேசுகிறார். கடவுள் அவருக்குத் தம் ஆவிக்குரிய கொடைகளை அளவின்றிக் கொடுக்கிறார். தந்தை மகன்மேல் அன்புகூர்ந்து அனைத்தையும் அவர் கையில் ஒப்படைத்துள்ளார். மகனிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொள்வோர் நிலைவாழ்வைப் பெறுவர். நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளாதோர் வாழ்வைக் காணமாட்டார். மாறாகக் கடவுளின் சினம் அவர்கள்மேல் வந்து சேரும்.

அந்நாள்களில்

காவலர்கள் திருத்தூதர்களை அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து யூதத் தலைமைச் சங்கத்தின்முன் நிறுத்தினார்கள். தலைமைக் குரு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “நீங்கள் இந்த இயேசு பற்றிக் கற்பிக்கக்கூடாது என்று நாங்கள் கண்டிப்பாய்க் கட்டளையிடவில்லையா? என்றாலும் எருசலேம் முழுவதும் நீங்கள் கற்பித்து வருகிறீர்கள். மேலும் இந்த மனிதருடைய இரத்தப் பழியையும் எங்கள்மீது சுமத்தப்பார்க்கிறீர்களே!” என்றார்.

அதற்குப் பேதுருவும் திருத்தூதரும் மறுமொழியாக, “மனிதர்களுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிவதைவிடக் கடவுளுக்கு அல்லவா கீழ்ப்படிய வேண்டும்? நீங்கள் சிலுவையில் தொங்கவைத்துக் கொன்ற இயேசுவை நம் மூதாதையரின் கடவுள் உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்தார். இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களுக்கு மனமாற்றத்தையும் பாவ மன்னிப்பையும் அளிப்பதற்காகக் கடவுள் அவரைத் தலைவராகவும் மீட்பராகவும் தமது வலப்பக்கத்துக்கு உயர்த்தினார். இவற்றுக்கு நாங்களும் கடவுள் தமக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிவோருக்கு அருளும் தூய ஆவியும் சாட்சிகள்” என்றனர்.

இவற்றைக் கேட்ட தலைமைச் சங்கத்தார் கொதித்தெழுந்து, திருத் தூதர்களைக் கொல்லத் திட்டமிட்டனர்.

He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony. Whoever receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure. The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. A Reading from the Acts of Apostles 5:27-33

In those days: When the officers had brought the apostles, they set them before the Council. And the high priest questioned them, saying, “We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.” When they heard this, they were enraged and wanted to kill them.

இயேசு நிக்கதேமிடம் கூறியது: தம் ஒரே மகன்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளும் எவரும் அழியாமல் நிலைவாழ்வு பெறும் பொருட்டு அந்த மகனையே அளிக்கும் அளவுக்குக் கடவுள் உலகின்மேல் அன்புகூர்ந்தார். உலகிற்குத் தண்டனைத் தீர்ப்பளிக்க அல்ல, தம் மகன் வழியாக அதை மீட்கவே கடவுள் அவரை உலகிற்கு அனுப்பினார். அவர்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொள்வோர் தண்டனைத் தீர்ப்புக்கு ஆளாவதில்லை; ஆனால் நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளாதோர் ஏற்கெனவே தீர்ப்புப் பெற்றுவிட்டனர். ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் கடவுளின் ஒரே மகனிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளவில்லை.

ஒளி உலகிற்கு வந்திருந்தும் தம் செயல்கள் தீயனவாய் இருந்ததால் மனிதர் ஒளியைவிட இருளையே விரும்பினர். இதில்தான் அவர்களுக்கு எதிரான தண்டனைத் தீர்ப்பு அடங்கியுள்ளது. தீங்கு செய்யும் அனைவரும் ஒளியை வெறுக்கின்றனர். தங்கள் தீச்செயல்கள் வெளியாகிவிடும் என அஞ்சி அவர்கள் ஒளியிடம் வருவதில்லை. உண்மைக்கேற்ப வாழ்பவர்கள் ஒளியிடம் வருகிறார்கள். இதனால் அவர்கள் செய்யும் அனைத்தையும் கடவுளோடு இணைந்தே செய்கிறார்கள் என்பது வெளியாகும்.
