அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தமது சொந்த ஊருக்கு வந்து அங்குள்ள தொழுகைக்கூடத்தில் அவர்களுக்குக் கற்பித்தார். அதைக் கேட்டவர்கள் வியப்பில் ஆழ்ந்தார்கள். அவர்கள், “எங்கிருந்து இந்த ஞானம் இவருக்கு வந்தது? எப்படி இந்த வல்ல செயல்களைச் செய்கிறார்? இவர் தச்சருடைய மகன் அல்லவா? இவருடைய தாய் மரியா என்பவர்தானே? யாக்கோபு, யோசேப்பு, சீமோன், யூதா ஆகியோர் இவருடைய சகோதரர் அல்லவா? இவர் சகோதரிகள் எல்லாரும் நம்மோடு இருக்கிறார்கள் அல்லவா? பின் இவருக்கு இவை எல்லாம் எங்கிருந்து வந்தன?” என்றார்கள். இவ்வாறு அவரை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள அவர்கள் தயங்கினார்கள்.

இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “தம் சொந்த ஊரிலும் வீட்டிலும் தவிர மற்றெங்கும் இறைவாக்கினர் மதிப்புப் பெறுவர்” என்றார். அவர்களுக்கு நம்பிக்கை இல்லாததால் அவர் அங்குப் பல வல்ல செயல்களைச் செய்யவில்லை.

கடவுள், “மானிடரை நம் உருவிலும், நம் சாயலிலும் உண்டாக்குவோம். அவர்கள் கடல் மீன்களையும், வானத்துப் பறவைகளையும், கால்நடைகளையும், மண்ணுலகு பலுகிப் முழுவதையும், நிலத்தில் ஊர்வன யாவற்றையும் ஆளட்டும்” என்றார்.

கடவுள் தம் உருவில் மானிடரைப் படைத்தார்; கடவுளின் உருவிலேயே அவர்களைப் படைத்தார்; ஆணும் பெண்ணுமாக அவர்களைப் படைத்தார்.

கடவுள் அவர்களுக்கு ஆசி வழங்கி, “பலுகிப் பெருகி மண்ணுலகை நிரப்புங்கள்; அதை உங்கள் ஆற்றலுக்கு உட்படுத்துங்கள்; கடல் மீன்கள், வானத்துப் பறவைகள், நிலத்தில் ஊர்ந்து உயிர் வாழ்வன அனைத்தையும் ஆளுங்கள்” என்றார்.

அப்பொழுது கடவுள், “மண்ணுலகெங்கும் உள்ள விதை தரும் செடிகள், பழமரங்கள், அனைத்தையும் உங்களுக்கு நான் கொடுத்துள்ளேன்; இவை உங்களுக்கு உணவாகட்டும். எல்லாக் காட்டுவிலங்குகள், வானத்துப் பறவைகள், நிலத்தில் ஊர்வன ஆகிய அனைத்து உயிரினங்களுக்கும் பசுமையான செடிகள் அனைத்தையும் நான் உணவாகத் தந்துள்ளேன்” என்றார்.

அது அவ்வாறே ஆயிற்று. கடவுள் தாம் உருவாக்கிய அனைத்தையும் நோக்கினார். அவை மிகவும் நன்றாய் இருந்தன. மாலையும் காலையும் நிறைவுற்று ஆறாம் நாள் முடிந்தது.

விண்ணுலகும் மண்ணுலகும் அவற்றில் உள்ள அமைப்புகள் அனைத்தும் உருவாக்கப் பெற்று நிறைவெய்தின. மேலும் கடவுள் தாம் செய்த வேலையை ஏழாம் நாளில் முடித்திருந்தார். அவர் தாம் செய்த வேலைகள் அனைத்தையும் நிறைவு பெறச் செய்து, ஏழாம் நாளில் ஓய்ந்திருந்தார். கடவுள் ஏழாம் நாளுக்கு ஆசி வழங்கி, அதைப் புனிதப்படுத்தினார். ஏனெனில் கடவுள் தாம் செய்த படைப்பு வேலைகள் அனைத்தையும் நிறைவு பெறச் செய்து அந்நாளில்தான் ஓய்ந்திருந்தார்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

பவுலும் அவரோடு இருந்தவர்களும் பாப்போவிலிருந்து கப்பலேறி, பம்பிலியாவிலுள்ள பெருகை நகருக்கு வந்தார்கள். அங்கே யோவான் அவர்களைவிட்டு அகன்று எருசலேமுக்குத் திரும்பினார். அவர்கள் பெருகையிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுச் சென்று பிசிதியாவிலுள்ள அந்தி யோக்கியாவை அடைந்தார்கள். ஓய்வுநாளன்று அவர்கள் தொழுகைக் கூடத்திற்குச் சென்று அங்கு அமர்ந்திருந்தார்கள். திருச்சட்டமும் இறைவாக்கினர் நூல்களும் வாசித்து முடிந்தபின் தொழுகைக்கூடத் தலைவர்கள் அவர்களிடம் ஆள் அனுப்பி, “சகோதரரே, உங்களுள் யாராவது மக்களுக்கு அறிவுரை கூறுவதாயிருந்தால் கூறலாம்” என்று கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்கள்.

அப்போது பவுல் எழுந்து கையால் சைகை காட்டிவிட்டுக் கூறியது: “இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களே, கடவுளுக்கு அஞ்சுவோரே, கேளுங்கள். இந்த இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் கடவுள் நம்முடைய மூதாதையரைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார்; அவர்கள் எகிப்து நாட்டில் அன்னியர்களாகத் தங்கியிருந்தபோது அவர்களை ஒரு பெரிய மக்களினமாக்கினார். பின்பு அவர் தம் தோள்வலிமையைக் காட்டி அவர்களை அந்த நாட்டைவிட்டு வெளியே அழைத்துக்கொண்டு வந்தார்; நாற்பது ஆண்டு காலமாய்ப் பாலைநிலத்தில் அவர்களிடம் மிகுந்த பொறுமை காட்டினார். அவர் கானான் நாட்டின்மீது ஏழு மக்களினங்களை அழித்து அவர்கள் நாட்டை இவர்களுக்கு ஏறக்குறைய நானூற்றைம்பது ஆண்டுகள் உரிமைச் சொத்தாக அளித்தார்; அதன்பின்பு இறைவாக்கினர் சாமுவேலின் காலம் வரை அவர்களுக்கு நீதித் தலைவர்களை அளித்தார்.

பின்பு அவர்கள் தங்களுக்கு ஓர் அரசர் வேண்டும் என்று கேட்டார்கள். கடவுள் கீசு என்பவரின் மகனான சவுல் என்பவரை அவர்களுக்கு அரசராகக் கொடுத்தார். பென்யமின் குலத்தினராகிய அவர் நாற்பது ஆண்டுகள் ஆட்சி செலுத்தினார். பின்பு கடவுள் அவரை நீக்கிவிட்டுத் தாவீதை அவர்களுக்கு அரசராக ஏற்படுத்தினார்; அவரைக் குறித்து ‘ஈசாயின் மகனான தாவீதை என் இதயத்துக்கு உகந்தவனாகக் கண்டேன்; என் விருப்பம் அனைத்தையும் அவன் நிறைவேற்றுவான்’ என்று சான்று பகர்ந்தார்.

தாம் அளித்த வாக்குறுதியின்படி கடவுள் அவருடைய வழிமரபிலிருந்தே இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு இயேசு என்னும் மீட்பர் தோன்றச் செய்தார். அவருடைய வருகைக்கு முன்பே யோவான், ‘மனம் மாறி திருமுழுக்குப் பெறுங்கள்’ என்று இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் பறைசாற்றி வந்தார். யோவான் தம் வாழ்க்கை என்னும் ஓட்டத்தை முடிக்கும் தறுவாயில், ‘நான் யார் என நீங்கள் நினைக்கிறீர்களோ அவரல்ல நான். இதோ, எனக்குப்பின் ஒருவர் வருகிறார்; அவருடைய மிதியடிகளை அவிழ்க்கவும் எனக்குத் தகுதி இல்லை’ என்று கூறினார்.”

Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. And John left them and returned to Jerusalem, but they went on from Perga and came to Antioch in Pisidia. And on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down. After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent a message to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, say it.” So Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said: “Men of Israel and you who fear God, listen. The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm he led them out of it. And for about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness. And after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance. All this took about four hundred and fifty years. And after that he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. கடவுளின் வார்த்தை மேன்மேலும் பரவியது. பர்னபாவும் சவுலும் தங்கள் திருத்தொண்டை முடித்தபின், மாற்கு எனப்படும் யோவானைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, எருசலேமிலிருந்து திரும்பிச் சென்றனர்.

அந்தியோக்கிய திருச்சபையில் பர்னபா, நீகர் எனப்படும் சிமியோன், சிரேன் ஊரானாகிய லூக்கியு, குறுநில மன்னன் ஏரோதுவுடன் வளர்ந்த மனாயீன், சவுல் ஆகியோர் இறைவாக்கினராகவும் போதகராகவும் இருந்தனர். அவர்கள் நோன்பிருந்து ஆண்டவரை வழிபடும்போது தூய ஆவியார் அவர்களிடம், “பர்னபாவையும் சவுலையும் ஒரு தனிப்பட்ட பணிக்கென நான் அழைத்திருக்கிறேன். அந்தப் பணிக்காக அவர்களை ஒதுக்கி வையுங்கள்” என்று கூறினார். அவர்கள் நோன்பிருந்து இறைவனிடம் வேண்டினார்கள்; தங்கள் கைகளை அவ்விருவர்மீது வைத்துத் திருப்பணியிலமர்த்தி அவர்களை அனுப்பி வைத்தார்கள்.

A Reading from the Acts of  Apostles 12: 24-13:5 

In those days: The word of God increased and multiplied. And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had completed their service, bringing with them John, whose other name was Mark. Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews.

அக்காலத்தில்

எருசலேமில் கோவில் அர்ப்பண விழா நடந்துகொண்டிருந்தது. அப்போது குளிர்காலம். கோவிலின் சாலமோன் மண்டபத்தில் இயேசு நடந்துகொண்டிருந்தார். யூதர்கள் அவரைச் சூழ்ந்துகொண்டு, “இன்னும் எவ்வளவு காலம் நாங்கள் காத்திருக்க வேண்டும்? நீர் மெசியாவானால் அதை எங்களிடம் வெளிப்படையாகச் சொல்லிவிடும்” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

இயேசு மறுமொழியாக, “நான் உங்களிடம் சொன்னேன்; நீங்கள்தான் நம்பவில்லை. என் தந்தையின் பெயரால் நான் செய்யும் செயல்களே எனக்குச் சான்றாக அமைகின்றன. ஆனால் நீங்கள் நம்பாமல் இருக்கிறீர்கள். ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் என் மந்தையைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள் அல்ல. என் ஆடுகள் எனது குரலுக்குச் செவிசாய்க்கின்றன. எனக்கும் அவற்றைத் தெரியும். அவையும் என்னைப் பின்தொடர்கின்றன. நான் அவற்றிற்கு நிலைவாழ்வை அளிக்கிறேன். அவை என்றுமே அழியா. அவற்றை எனது கையிலிருந்து யாரும் பறித்துக்கொள்ளமாட்டார்.

ஸ்தேவானை முன்னிட்டு உண்டான துன்புறுத்தலால் மக்கள் பெனிசியா, சைப்பிரசு, அந்தியோக்கியா வரை சிதறிப்போயினர். அவர்கள் யூதருக்கு மட்டுமே இறைவார்த்தையை அறிவித்தார்கள்; வேறு எவருக்கும் அறிவிக்கவில்லை. அவர்களுள் சைப்பிரசு, சிரேன் ஆகிய இடங்களைச் சேர்ந்த சிலர் இருந்தனர். அவர்கள் அந்தியோக்கியாவுக்கு வந்து அங்குள்ள கிரேக்கரை அணுகி ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசுவைப் பற்றிய நற்செய்தியை அறிவித்தார்கள். ஆண்டவரின் கைவன்மையை அவர்கள் பெற்றிருந்தார்கள். பெருந்தொகையான மக்கள் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டு ஆண்டவரிடம் திரும்பினர்.

இந்தச் செய்தி எருசலேம் திருச்சபையினரின் காதில் விழவே அவர்கள் பர்னபாவை அந்தியோக்கியா வரை சென்றுவர அனுப்பி வைத்தார்கள். அவர் அங்குச் சென்றபோது, கடவுளின் அருள்செயலைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தார்; மேலும் உறுதியான உள்ளத்தோடு ஆண்டவரைச் சார்ந்திருக்குமாறு அனைவரையும் ஊக்கப்படுத்தினார். அவர் நல்லவர்; தூய ஆவியால் ஆட்கொள்ளப்பட்டு நம்பிக்கை நிறைந்தவராய்ப் பெருந்திரளான மக்களை ஆண்டவரிடம் சேர்த்தார்.

பின்பு சவுலைத் தேடி அவர் தர்சு நகர் சென்றார்; அவரைக் கண்டு, அந்தியோக்கியாவுக்கு அழைத்துவந்தார். அவர்கள் ஓராண்டு முழுவதும் அந்தச் சபையாரோடு கூடவே இருந்து பெருந்திரளான மக்களுக்குக் கற்பித்து வந்தார்கள். அந்தியோக்கியாவில்தான் முதல் முறையாகச் சீடர்கள் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் என்னும் பெயரைப் பெற்றார்கள்.

In those days: Those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen travelled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews. But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Hellenists also, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. The report of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose, for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a great many people. And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.

நல்ல ஆயன் நானே. தந்தை என்னை அறிந்திருக்கிறார்; நானும் தந்தையை அறிந்திருக்கிறேன். அதுபோல நானும் என் ஆடுகளை அறிந்திருக்கிறேன்; என் ஆடுகளும் என்னை அறிந்திருக்கின்றன. அவைகளுக்காக எனது உயிரைக் கொடுக்கிறேன். இக்கொட்டிலைச் சேரா வேறு ஆடுகளும் எனக்கு உள்ளன. நான் அவற்றையும் நடத்திச் செல்ல வேண்டும். அவையும் எனது குரலுக்குச் செவிசாய்க்கும். அப்போது ஒரே மந்தையும் ஒரே ஆயரும் என்னும் நிலை ஏற்படும். தந்தை என்மீது அன்பு செலுத்துகிறார்.

ஏனெனில் நான் என் உயிரைக் கொடுக்கிறேன்; அதை மீண்டும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளவே கொடுக்கிறேன். என் உயிரை என்னிடமிருந்து யாரும் பறித்துக்கொள்வதில்லை. நானாகவே அதைக் கொடுக்கிறேன். உயிரைக் கொடுக்கவும் எனக்கு அதிகாரம் உண்டு; அதை மீண்டும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளவும் அதிகாரம் உண்டு. என் தந்தையின் கட்டளைப் படியே நான் இப்படிச் செய்கிறேன்.”

திருத்தூதர் பணிகள் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 11: 1-18

அந்நாள்களில்

பிற இனத்தவரும் கடவுளின் வார்த்தையை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டதைப்பற்றித் திருத்தூதர்களும் யூதேயாவிலுள்ள சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளும் கேள்விப்பட்டார்கள். பேதுரு எருசலேமுக்குத் திரும்பிவந்தபோது, விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொண்டவர்கள் அவரோடு வாதிட்டனர். ‘‘நீர் ஏன் விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொள்ளாதோரிடம் சென்று அவர்களுடன் உணவு உண்டீர்?” என்று குறை கூறினர்.

பேதுரு நடந்தவற்றை ஒன்றன்பின் ஒன்றாக விளக்கிக் கூறத் தொடங்கினார். ‘‘நான் யோப்பா நகரில் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தபோது மெய்ம்மறந்த நிலையில் ஒரு காட்சி கண்டேன். பெரிய கப்பற்பாயைப் போன்ற ஒரு விரிப்பு நான்கு முனைகளிலும் கட்டப்பட்டு வானத்திலிருந்து இறக்கப்பட்டு என்னிடம் வந்தது. அதை நான் கவனமாக நோக்கியபோது, தரையில் நடப்பன, ஊர்வன, வானில் பறப்பன, காட்டு விலங்குகள் ஆகியவற்றைக் கண்டேன். ‘பேதுரு, எழுந்திடு! இவற்றைக் கொன்று சாப்பிடு’ என்னும் ஒரு குரல் ஒலிப்பதையும் கேட்டேன். அதற்கு நான், ‘வேண்டவே வேண்டாம் ஆண்டவரே, தீட்டானதும் தூய்மையற்றதுமான எதுவும் ஒருபோதும் என் வாய்க்குள் சென்றதில்லையே’ என்றேன். இரண்டாம் முறையும் வானிலிருந்து மறுமொழியாக, ‘தூய்மையானது எனக் கடவுள் கருதுவதைத் தீட்டாகக் கருதாதே’ என்று அக்குரல் ஒலித்தது. இப்படி மும்முறை நடந்தபின்பு யாவும் வானத்துக்கு மீண்டும் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்பட்டன.

அந்நேரத்தில் செசரியாவிலிருந்து என்னிடம் அனுப்பப்பட்ட மூவர் நான் தங்கியிருந்த வீட்டின் முன் வந்து நின்றனர். தூய ஆவியார் என்னிடம், ‘தயக்கம் ஏதுமின்றி அவர்களோடு செல்’ என்று கூறினார். உடனே நானும் இந்த ஆறு சகோதரர்களுமாக அந்த மனிதர் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றோம். அவர் தம் வீட்டில் வானதூதர் வந்து நின்றதைக் கண்டதாகவும், அத்தூதர் பேதுரு என்னும் பெயர் கொண்ட சீமோனை வரவழையும்; நீரும் உம் வீட்டார் அனைவரும் மீட்புப் பெறுவதற்கான வார்த்தைகளை அவர் உம்மோடு பேசுவார் என்று தமக்குக் கூறியதாகவும் எங்களுக்கு அறிவித்தார். நான் பேசத்தொடங்கியதும் தூய ஆவி முதலில் நம்மீது இறங்கி வந்ததுபோல் அவர்கள் மீதும் இறங்கி வந்தது. அப்போது, ‘யோவான் தண்ணீரால் திருமுழுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்; ஆனால் நீங்கள் தூய ஆவியால் திருமுழுக்குப் பெறுவீர்கள்’ என்ற ஆண்டவரின் வார்த்தைகளை நான் நினைவு கூர்ந்தேன். இப்போதும் ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொண்டபோது நமக்கு அருளப்பட்ட அதே கொடையைக் கடவுள் அவர்களுக்கும் கொடுத்தார் என்றால் கடவுளைத் தடுக்க நான் யார்?” என்றார்.

இவற்றைக் கேட்டு அவர்கள் அமைதி அடைந்தனர்; வாழ்வுக்கு வழியான மனமாற்றத்தைப் பிற இனத்தவருக்கும் கடவுள் கொடுத்தார் என்று கூறி அவரைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தார்கள்.

In those days: The apostles and the brothers who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party criticized him, saying, “You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them.” But Peter began and explained it to them in order: “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like a great sheet descending, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to me. Looking at it closely, I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air. And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ But I said, ‘By no means, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’ But the voice answered a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, do not call common.’ This happened three times, and all was drawn up again into heaven. And behold, at that very moment three men arrived at the house in which we were, sent to me from Caesarea. And the Spirit told me to go with them, making no distinction. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house. And he told us how he had seen the angel stand in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa and bring Simon who is called Peter; he will declare to you a message by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning. இயேசு கூறியது: ‘‘உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: ஆட்டுக் கொட்டிலில் வாயில் வழியாக நுழையாமல் வேறு வழியாக ஏறிக் குதிப்போர் திருடர் அல்லது கொள்ளையராய் இருப்பர். வாயில் வழியாக நுழைபவர் ஆடுகளின் ஆயர். அவருக்கே காவலர் வாயிலைத் திறந்துவிடுவார். ஆடுகளும் அவரது குரலுக்கே செவிசாய்க்கும். அவர் தம்முடைய சொந்த ஆடுகளைப் பெயர் சொல்லிக் கூப்பிட்டு வெளியே கூட்டிச் செல்வார். தம்முடைய சொந்த ஆடுகள் அனைத்தையும் வெளியே ஓட்டி வந்தபின் அவர் அவற்றிற்குமுன் செல்வார். ஆடுகளும் அவரைப் பின்தொடரும். ஏனெனில் அவரது குரல் அவற்றுக்குத் தெரியும். அறியாத ஒருவரை அவை பின்தொடரா. அவரை விட்டு அவை ஓடிப்போகும். ஏனெனில் அவரது குரல் அவற்றுக்குத் தெரியாது.”

இயேசு அவர்களிடம் உவமையாக இவ்வாறு சொன்னார். ஆனால் அவர் சொன்னதை அவர்கள் புரிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை.

மீண்டும் இயேசு கூறியது: ‘‘உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: ஆடுகளுக்கு வாயில் நானே. எனக்கு முன்பு வந்தவர் அனைவரும் திருடரும் கொள்ளையருமே. அவர்களுக்கு ஆடுகள் செவிசாய்க்கவில்லை. நானே வாயில். என் வழியாக நுழைவோருக்கு ஆபத்து இல்லை. அவர்கள் உள்ளே போவர்; வெளியே வருவர்; மேய்ச்சல் நிலத்தைக் கண்டுகொள்வர். திருடுவதற்கும் கொல்வதற்கும் அழிப்பதற்குமன்றித் திருடர் வேறெதற்கும் வருவதில்லை. ஆனால் நான் ஆடுகள் வாழ்வைப் பெறும்பொருட்டு, அதுவும் நிறைவாகப் பெறும்பொருட்டு வந்துள்ளேன்.”

பெந்தக்கோஸ்து என்னும் நாள் வந்தபோது பேதுரு பதினொருவருடன் சேர்ந்து, எழுந்து நின்று, உரத்த குரலில் அவர்களிடம் பின்வருமாறு கூறினார்: “நீங்கள் சிலுவையில் அறைந்த இந்த இயேசுவைக் கடவுள் ஆண்டவரும் மெசியாவுமாக்கினார் என்பதை இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களாகிய நீங்கள் அனைவரும் உறுதியாக அறிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள்.”

At that time: Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. இயேசு பதினொருவருக்கும் தோன்றி, “உலகெங்கும் சென்று படைப்பிற்கெல்லாம் நற்செய்தியைப் பறைசாற்றுங்கள். நம்பிக்கைகொண்டு திருமுழுக்குப் பெறுவோர் மீட்புப் பெறுவர்; நம்பிக்கையற்றவரோ தண்டனைத் தீர்ப்புப் பெறுவர்.

நம்பிக்கை கொண்டோர் பின்வரும் அரும் அடையாளங்களைச் செய்வர்: அவர்கள் என் பெயரால் பேய்களை ஓட்டுவர்; புதிய மொழிகளைப் பேசுவர்; பாம்புகளைத் தம் கையால் பிடிப்பர். கொல்லும் நஞ்சைக் குடித்தாலும் அது அவர்களுக்குத் தீங்கு இழைக்காது. அவர்கள் உடல் நலமற்றோர்மீது கைகளை வைக்க, அவர்கள் குணமடைவர்” என்று கூறினார்.

இவ்வாறு அவர்களோடு பேசிய பின்பு, ஆண்டவர் இயேசு விண்ணேற்றமடைந்து கடவுளின் வலப்புறம் அமர்ந்தார்.

அவர்கள் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்று எங்கும் நற்செய்தியைப் பறைசாற்றினர். ஆண்டவரும் உடனிருந்து செயல்பட்டு, நிகழ்ந்த அரும் அடையாளங்களால் அவர்களுடைய வார்த்தையை உறுதிப்படுத்தினார்.

அன்பிற்குரியவர்களே,

அறிவுத் தெளிவோடு விழிப்பாயிருங்கள். உங்கள் எதிரியாகிய அலகை யாரை விழுங்கலாமெனக் கர்ச்சிக்கும் சிங்கம் போலத் தேடித் திரிகிறது. அசையாத நம்பிக்கை கொண்டவர்களாய் அதனை எதிர்த்து நில்லுங்கள். உலகெங்கிலுமுள்ள உங்கள் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகள் உங்களைப் போலவே துன்பங்களுக்கு உள்ளாகிறார்கள் என்பதை நீங்கள் அறிந்திருக்கிறீர்கள் அல்லவா? எல்லா அருளும் நிறைந்த கடவுள், இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் என்றும் நிலைக்கும் தம் மாட்சியில் பங்குகொள்ள உங்களை அழைத்திருக்கிறார். சிறிது காலத் துன்பங்களுக்குப் பின் அவர் உங்களைச் சீர்ப்படுத்தி, உறுதிப்படுத்தி, வலுப்படுத்தி நிலைநிறுத்துவார். அவரது வல்லமை என்றென்றைக்கும் உள்ளது. ஆமென்.

அந்நாள்களில்

சவுல் சீறியெழுந்து ஆண்டவரின் சீடர்களைக் கொன்றுவிடுவதாக அச்சுறுத்தி வந்தார். தலைமைக் குருவை அணுகி, இந்தப் புதிய நெறியைச் சார்ந்த ஆண், பெண் யாராய் இருந்தாலும் அவர்களைக் கைது செய்து எருசலேமுக்கு இழுத்துக்கொண்டு வரத் தமஸ்கு நகரிலுள்ள தொழுகைக் கூடங்களுக்குக் கடிதங்களைக் கேட்டு வாங்கினார். இவ்வாறு அவர் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்று தமஸ்குவை நெருங்கியபோது, திடீரென வானத்திலிருந்து தோன்றிய ஓர் ஒளி அவரைச் சூழ்ந்து வீசியது. அவர் தரையில் விழ, “சவுலே, சவுலே, ஏன் என்னைத் துன்புறுத்துகிறாய்?” என்று தம்மோடு பேசும் குரலொன்றைக் கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவர், “ஆண்டவரே நீர் யார்?” எனக் கேட்டார். ஆண்டவர், “நீ துன்புறுத்தும் இயேசு நானே. நீ எழுந்து நகருக்குள் செல்; நீ என்ன செய்யவேண்டும் என்பது அங்கே உனக்குச் சொல்லப்படும்” என்றார்.

அவரோடு பயணம் செய்தோர் இக்குரலைக் கேட்டனர். ஆனால் ஒருவரையும் காணாமல் வாயடைத்து நின்றனர். சவுல் தரையிலிருந்து எழுந்தார். தம் கண்கள் திறந்திருந்தும் அவரால் எதையும் பார்க்க முடியவில்லை. எனவே அவர்கள் அவருடைய கைகளைப் பிடித்து அவரைத் தமஸ்குவுக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றார்கள். அவர் மூன்று நாள் பார்வையற்றிருந்தார். அந்நாள்களில் அவர் உண்ணவுமில்லை, குடிக்கவுமில்லை.

தமஸ்குவில் அனனியா என்னும் பெயருடைய சீடர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். ஆண்டவர் அவருக்குத் தோன்றி, “அனனியா!” என அழைக்க, அவர், “ஆண்டவரே, இதோ அடியேன்” என்றார். அப்போது ஆண்டவர் அவரிடம், “நீ எழுந்து நேர்த் தெரு என்னும் சந்துக்குப் போய் யூதாவின் வீட்டில் சவுல் என்னும் பெயருடைய தர்சு நகரத்தவரைத் தேடு. அவர் இப்போது இறைவனிடம் வேண்டிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார். அனனியா என்னும் பெயருடைய ஒருவர் வந்து தாம் மீண்டும் பார்வையடையுமாறு தம்மீது கைகளை வைப்பதாக அவர் காட்சி கண்டுள்ளார்” என்று கூறினார்.

அதற்கு அனனியா மறுமொழியாக, “ஆண்டவரே, இம்மனிதன் எருசலேமிலுள்ள இறைமக்களுக்கு என்னென்ன தீமைகள் செய்தான் என்பதைப் பற்றிப் பலர் கூறக் கேட்டிருக்கிறேன். உம் பெயரை அறிக்கையிடும் அனைவரையும் கைது செய்வதற்காகத் தலைமைக் குருக்களிடமிருந்து அதிகாரம் பெற்று இங்கே வந்திருக்கிறான்” என்றார். அதற்கு ஆண்டவர் அவரிடம், “நீ செல். அவர் பிற இனத்தவருக்கும் அரசருக்கும் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களுக்கும் முன்பாக எனது பெயரை எடுத்துச்செல்ல நான் தேர்ந்தெடுத்துக்கொண்ட கருவியாய் இருக்கிறார். என் பெயரின் பொருட்டு அவர் எத்துணை துன்புறவேண்டும் என்பதை நான் அவருக்கு எடுத்துக் காட்டுவேன்” என்றார்.

அனனியா அங்கிருந்து போய் அந்த வீட்டுக்குள் சென்று, கைகளை அவர்மீது வைத்து, “சகோதரர் சவுலே, நீர் வந்த வழியில் உமக்குத் தோன்றிய ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு நீர் மீண்டும் பார்வை அடையவும் தூய ஆவியால் ஆட்கொள்ளப்படவும் என்னை உம்மிடம் அனுப்பியுள்ளார்” என்றார். உடனே அவருடைய கண்களிலிருந்து செதில்கள் போன்றவை விழவே, அவர் மீண்டும் பார்வையடைந்தார். பார்வையடைந்ததும் அவர் எழுந்து திருமுழுக்குப் பெற்றார். பின்பு சவுல் உணவு அருந்தி வலிமை பெற்றார். சில நாள்களாக சவுல் தமஸ்குவில் சீடர்களுடன் தங்கியிருந்தார். உடனடியாக அவர் இயேசுவே இறைமகன் என்று தொழுகைக் கூடங்களில் பறைசாற்றத் தொடங்கினார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 6: 52-59 

At that time: The Jews disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live for ever.” Jesus said these things in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum.

In those days: Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.” The men who were travelling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one. Saul rose from the ground, and although his eyes were opened, he saw nothing. So they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. And for three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor drank. Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias. தந்தைக்குச் செவிசாய்த்து அவரிடமிருந்து கற்றுக்கொண்ட அனைவரும் என்னிடம் வருவர். கடவுள்தாமே கற்றுத்தருவார் என்பதிலிருந்து தந்தையை எவராவது கண்டுள்ளார் என்று பொருள் கொள்ளக்கூடாது. கடவுளிடமிருந்து வந்துள்ளவர் மட்டுமே கடவுளைக் கண்டுள்ளார். உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: என்னை நம்புவோர் நிலைவாழ்வைக் கொண்டுள்ளனர்.

வாழ்வு தரும் உணவு நானே. உங்கள் முன்னோர் பாலை நிலத்தில் மன்னாவை உண்டபோதிலும் இறந்தனர். உண்பவரை இறவாமல் இருக்கச் செய்யும் உணவு விண்ணகத்திலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்த இந்த உணவே. விண்ணகத்திலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்த வாழ்வு தரும் உணவு நானே. இந்த உணவை எவராவது உண்டால் அவர் என்றுமே வாழ்வார். எனது சதையை உணவாகக் கொடுக்கிறேன். அதை உலகு வாழ்வதற்காகவே கொடுக்கிறேன்.”

ஆண்டவரின் தூதர் பிலிப்பிடம், “நீ எழுந்து எருசலேமிலிருந்து காசாவுக்குச் செல்லும் வழியாகத் தெற்கு நோக்கிப் போ” என்றார். அது ஒரு பாலைநிலப் பாதை. பிலிப்பு அவ்வாறே புறப்பட்டுப் போனார். அப்போது எத்தியோப்பிய அரச அலுவலர் ஒருவர் எருசலேம் சென்று, கடவுளை வணங்கிவிட்டுத் திரும்பிச் சென்றுகொண்டிருந்தார். அவர் ஓர் அலி; எத்தியோப்பிய அரசியான கந்தகியின் நிதியமைச்சர். அவர் தமது தேரில் அமர்ந்து எசாயாவின் இறைவாக்கு நூலைப் படித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

தூய ஆவியார் பிலிப்பிடம், “நீ அந்தத் தேரை நெருங்கிச் சென்று அதனோடு கூடவே போ” என்றார். பிலிப்பு ஓடிச் சென்று, அவர் எசாயாவின் இறைவாக்கு நூலை வாசிப்பதைக் கேட்டு, “நீர் வாசிப்பதின் பொருள் உமக்குத் தெரிகின்றதா?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவர், “யாராவது விளக்கிக்காட்டாவிட்டால் எவ்வாறு என்னால் தெரிந்துகொள்ள முடியும்?” என்று கூறித் தேரில் ஏறித் தன்னோடு அமருமாறு பிலிப்பை அழைத்தார்.

அவர் வாசித்துக்கொண்டிருந்த மறைநூல் பகுதி பின்வருமாறு: “அடிப்பதற்கு இழுத்துச்செல்லப்பட்ட ஆட்டுக் குட்டிபோலும், உரோமம் கத்தரிப்போன் முன்னிலையில் கத்தாத செம்மறி போலும் அவர் தம் வாயைத் திறவாதிருந்தார். தாழ்வுற்ற நிலையில் அவருக்கு நீதி வழங்கப்படவில்லை. அவருடைய தலைமுறையைப்பற்றி எடுத்துரைப்பவன் யார்? ஏனெனில் அவருடைய உயிர்தான் எடுக்கப்பட்டுவிட்டதே!”

அவர் பிலிப்பிடம், “இறைவாக்கினர் யாரைக் குறித்து இதைக் கூறுகிறார்? தம்மைக் குறித்தா, அல்லது மற்றொருவரைக் குறித்தா? தயவு செய்து கூறுவீரா?” என்று கேட்டார். அப்போது பிலிப்பு, இந்த மறைநூல் பகுதியிலிருந்து தொடங்கி, இயேசுவைப்பற்றிய நற்செய்தியை அவருக்கு அறிவித்தார்.

அவர்கள் தண்ணீரிலிருந்து வெளியேறினவுடனேயே ஆண்டவரின் ஆவியார் பிலிப்புவை எடுத்துச் சென்றுவிட்டார். அமைச்சர் அதன்பின் அவரைக் காணவில்லை; அவர் மகிழ்ச்சியோடு தம் வழியே சென்றார். பின்பு பிலிப்பு ஆசோத்து என்னும் இடத்தில் காணப்பட்டார். செசரியா போய்ச் சேரும்வரை அவர் சென்ற நகரங்களிலெல்லாம் நற்செய்தியை அறிவித்தார்.

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles 8: 26-40 

In those days: An angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go towards the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place. And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this: “Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth. In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken away from the earth.” And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?” And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
