மரியாவைத் தடுக்காதீர்கள். என் அடக்க நாளை முன்னிட்டு அவர் இதைச் செய்யட்டும்.

✠ யோவான் எழுதிய தூய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 12: 1-11

பாஸ்கா விழாவுக்கு ஆறு நாளுக்கு முன்பு இயேசு பெத்தானியாவுக்குச் சென்றார். அங்குதான் இயேசு இலாசரை உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்தார். அங்கு அவருக்கு விருந்து அளிக்கப்பட்டது. மார்த்தா உணவு பரிமாறினார். இயேசுவோடு பந்தியில் அமர்ந்திருந்தவர்களுடன் இலாசரும் இருந்தார். மரியா இலாமிச்சை என்னும் கலப்பற்ற விலையுயர்ந்த நறுமணத் தைலம் ஏறக்குறைய முந்நூற்று இருபது கிராம் கொண்டுவந்து இயேசுவின் காலடிகளில் பூசி, அதனைத் தமது கூந்தலால் துடைத்தார். தைலத்தின் நறுமணம் வீடெங்கும் கமழ்ந்தது.

இயேசுவின் சீடருள் ஒருவனும் அவரைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்க இருந்தவனுமான யூதாசு இஸ்காரியோத்து, “இந்தத் தைலத்தை முந்நூறு தெனாரியத்துக்கு விற்று, அப்பணத்தை ஏழைகளுக்குக் கொடுத்திருக்கக் கூடாதா?” என்று கேட்டான். ஏழைகள்பால் கொண்டிருந்த அக்கறையினால் அல்ல, மாறாக அவன் ஒரு திருடனாய் இருந்ததால்தான் இப்படிக் கேட்டான். பணப்பை அவனிடம் இருந்தது. அதில் போடப்பட்ட பணத்திலிருந்து அவன் எடுத்துக்கொள்வதுண்டு. அப்போது இயேசு, “மரியாவைத் தடுக்காதீர்கள். என் அடக்க நாளை முன்னிட்டு அவர் இதைச் செய்யட்டும். ஏழைகள் உங்களோடு என்றும் இருக்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் நான் உங்களோடு என்றும் இருக்கப்போவதில்லை” என்றார்.

இயேசு அங்கு இருப்பதை அறிந்த யூதர்கள் பெருந்திரளாய் வந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் இயேசுவை முன்னிட்டு மட்டும் அல்ல, அவர் உயிர்த்தெழச்செய்திருந்த இலாசரைக் காண்பதற்காகவும் வந்தார்கள். ஆதலால் தலைமைக் குருக்கள் இலாசரையும் கொன்றுவிடத் திட்டமிட்டார்கள். ஏனெனில் இலாசரின் காரணமாக யூதர்களிடமிருந்து பலர் விலகி இயேசுவிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டனர்.

விண்ணுலகைப் படைத்து விரித்து, மண்ணுலகைப் பரப்பி உயிரினங்களைத் தோன்றச் செய்து, அதன் மக்களுக்கு உயிர்மூச்சுத் தந்து, அதில் நடமாடுவோர்க்கு ஆவியை அளித்தவருமான இறைவனாகிய ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே:

ஆண்டவராகிய நான் நீதியை நிலைநாட்டுமாறு உம்மை அழைத்தேன்; உம் கையைப் பற்றிப்பிடித்து, உம்மைப் பாதுகாப்பேன்; மக்களுக்கு உடன்படிக்கையாகவும் பிற இனத்தாருக்கு ஒளியாகவும் நீர் இருக்குமாறு செய்வேன். பார்வை இழந்தோரின் கண்களைத் திறக்கவும், கைதிகளின் தளைகளை அறுக்கவும், இருளில் இருப்போரைச் சிறையினின்று மீட்கவும் உம்மை அழைத்தேன்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 12:1-11

Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table. Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denari and given to the poor?” He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the money bag he used to help himself to what was put into it. Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial. For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.” When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.

A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah 42: 1-7 

Here is my servant whom I uphold,

my chosen one in whom my soul delights.

I have endowed him with my spirit

that he may bring true justice to the nations.

He does not cry out or shout aloud,

or make his voice heard in the streets.

He does not break the crushed reed,

nor quench the wavering flame.

Faithfully he brings true justice;

he will neither waver, nor be crushed

until true justice is established on earth,

for the islands are awaiting his law.

Thus says God, the Lord,

he who created the heavens and spread them out,

who gave shape to the earth and what comes from it,

who gave breath to its people

and life to the creatures that move in it:

‘I, the Lord, have called you to serve the cause of right;
